Assignment
n. : something, such as a task,
that is assigned.
It had only been two days.
But he couldn’t wait any longer.
He had the answer; the answer that would make it all okay again.style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
When Jason looked up at him, Seto guarded himself.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> But this time the red head didn’t look
mad. However that might have been
because Ashton was sitting with him, but Seto didn’t think so.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Apparently Ashton was learning Jason’s job.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Joey’s comment from two days ago came
back. Jason will take over.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> So Jason was now Joey’s partner.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Perfect, it would make this even easier.
“Can I see him?”
“He’s with somebody at the moment.”
It made Seto feel sick in his stomach.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> He’d never been here when Joey was with
somebody else. The other people he saw
where always just a concept.
“What room?” He
needed to know.
“Six,” Jason said warningly.
“He shouldn’t be more than another twenty minutes, if you want to wait
for him.”
Seto nodded. Jason
pointed to the couch against the wall.
Seto fell onto it. He loosened
his tie, then took it off, knowing there was no way he would go back to work
today.
Jason went back to explaining the job in full detail to
Ashton.
“We do our best to keep the patients from seeing each
other,” Jason said softly to Ashton. “It
was easy when it was just Joe. It’ll be
a bit harder timing wise if we’re both seeing patients at the same time.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> We’ll always write down in the appointment
book which room we’re going to be using.
If a patient arrives before the previous one leaves, take the patient to
the room to wait for us.”
“What about the rooms, Jay?
What if both you and Joseph have a patient at the same time that
requires the same room?”
Jason chewed on his pen for a moment.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Well, it’s not too big of a problem.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Room three is the same as two, five is the
same as four, and seven’s close enough to eight.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> It’d only be if we had somebody who needed
room one or six. We’ll just have to
careful in how we schedule.”
“Are you going to be okay with him having sex with other
people?” Seto asked, using his head to gesture towards Jason.
Ashton looked over at him.
“Of course, as long as he only makes love to me.”
Jason smiled at Ashton’s answer, and kissed him on the
cheek. Seto looked away, thinking about
what Ashton had said.
When the door opened, Seto knew better than to jump up.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> In fact, he looked to the wall, not
particularly wanting to be seen. Out of
the corner of his eye, he saw a small, mousy looking woman walk past.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Joey was right behind her.
“Ash, your first job, please schedule Miss. Rose for another
appointment about a month from now.
Rose, Jason is now seeing patients also.
Would you rather he see you or I?”
“You, please, Dr. Aurulent,” she said softly.style='mso-spacerun:yes'>
It was at that point Joey turned and saw Seto waiting on the
couch. He blushed, his voice leaving
him. Somehow, Seto seeing him working
was horribly nerve wracking, despite the fact that he’d been working with Seto
for over a month. “We’ll take care of
it, Joe,” Jason said pointedly.
Joey nodded a hurried thanks and motioned for Seto to follow
him. He closed the hallway door as soon
as the brunette was inside. “What is it,
Seto? And which room?”
Seto shook his head.
“No room, I just need to talk to you.”
“Then go into room one.
Not in the hallway.”
Seto followed Joey’s instructions.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> The blonde closed the door behind him.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “You don’t have to do that, I’m not here as a
patient.”
That caused Joey to stop.
He turned to Seto with an expectant look.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Then what are you here as?”
“A business man.”
Joey raised an eyebrow.
“Is that so?”
“I have a proposition for you.”
“What would that be?”
“Come work for me.”
Joey stared. What was Seto
getting at? “Not for Kaiba Corp., of
course, for me. Personally.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> Be my therapist.”
“You want me to work for you?” Joey asked.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Would I still have my job here?”
“No,” Seto said, so quickly that it shattered his
all-business disguise. Joey had seen
through it at the beginning anyway.
“Then my answer is no.”
Seto’s face fell.
“Why not?”
“I don’t want to work for you.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> I like my work here.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> I don’t work outside of this office.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> And all I do inside this office is work.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> If I do it here, it is work, if I do it
outside of here, it is not work. I like
that distinction, it helps me keep things straight in my life.”
Seto was stung. Joey
was telling him that he was work. By the
third day, Seto had considered himself above being just a patient.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Please?”
Joey shook his head.
“I’ll give you a hint, Seto. I
usually only ever give people exactly what they need.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> You are the single person that I have wanted
to give something to simply because they wanted it.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> But this isn’t what you want.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> You don’t want me to work for you.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> If you ask me for what you want, I may want
to give it to you, but you won’t know if you don’t ask.”
Joey paused for a moment to let Seto digest that.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> The brunette looked like he’d just swallowed
spoiled milk.
“Your last appointment with me is in two days.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> If I still feel you need therapy after that
appointment, I will have Ashton schedule you in with Jason.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> But it will be your last session with me.”
Seto wanted to protest, but knew what Joey was doing.style='mso-spacerun:yes'> “Now, I should have another patient already
waiting for me. Think about what I said,
it’s your homework.”
Joey turned, and, upon exiting, shut the door behind him, allowing
Seto as much time as he needed. By the
time Seto did leave, Joey was already with his next patient.
