Comfort after death

Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh in any way, shape, or form. I also do not own The Pretender or MacGyver series from television. I am just a fan fiction writer who is having fun with a few of the characters. So, don’t sue me. You would only get a few dollars because I am a poor young adult struggling to make ends meet.

Reviews would be greatly appreciated! Hint! Hint! ^_^

Normal P.O.V.

Seto’s memories flashed back. He no longer needed Jounouchi’s help with the necklace to see his own past life and the events following the explosion. It sliced through his mind like a hot knife, cutting to his very soul.

“Which way was the explosion? Are you sure they came this way? There are other ways to get out of the castle.” The pharaoh ran out the gates.

A sudden loud roar of grief pierced the air, shaking the buildings around the two running men. A large blast of fire lit the sky from the full sized black dragon. It glowing red eyes screamed rage and loss. Matching blasts of white lightning joined the mourning dragon as the three Blue eyes appeared beside it. People ran screaming as the dragon began to level the houses around it.

“No!” Seth screamed. “Jani!”

“Seth?” The pharaoh ran after his friend.

“They’ve been attacked. Red eyes was with us and couldn’t protect…Jani!”

“Yugi!”

They skidded to a halt in horror. Yugi stared up at them with sightless violet eyes. Blood continued to run from the deep cut across his throat. Yami ran to him screaming.

Jani was breathing shallowly, the knife protruding from his chest. “Jani! Jani. Oh Ra, no. Just hold still. Yami!” He ran to place the blond head on his lap. He heard Jani’s breath wheeze. His eyelids fluttered.

“There is nothing I can do, Seth.” He was staring off into the distance without seeing, holding Yugi’s cooling body cradled in his arms. Bitter tears ran down his face. “He is too far gone.”

“No! Heal him!”

“I cannot.”

Honey eyes fluttered open. A small smile crossed the pained face. With a struggle he took one final breath. “Seth…love…you. We’ll meet…’gain.” His eyes rolled back into his head. His body went limp.

“No! No!” Seth gathered him into his arms and rocked his body back and forth, while screaming and cursing the gods. His head turned to the silently mourning pharaoh. His blue eyes turned bitter and cold - emotionless. Hatred began to form in his heart where love had once reigned.

The dragon continued its rampage for days, but it was unable to find the person whose scent reeked from his dead master’s body. It disappeared back into its card after setting it aflame, never to be used by anyone in Egypt again.

All of Egypt mourned.

Seto fell to his knees in the white room. Hot bitter tears continued to fall from his eyes. “I blamed Yami for not healing him. I said he just wanted me to suffer as well because he lost Yugi. Yami blamed me for not having a Blue eyes with them to stand guard. It was the beginning of the end for Egypt. I…Seth…we loved him more than life itself. I lost him. I lost him.” Sobs racked his body as painful memories coursed through his mind. Mentally he was not yet prepared for the number of emotions running through his body. After being locked away for so long, their magnitude was powerful, almost causing him to retch.

Suddenly, cool hands ran along his back. He fell backwards into the comforting arms without a thought. His eyes flew up to meet tear-filled amber and a gentle smile. Arms wrapped around his chest. A soft voice whispered into his ear. A familiar yet different sound. His heart gave a strange leap in his chest. “You are Seth, yet also Kaiba Seto. I am Jani, yet also Jounouchi Katsuya. Don’t you see, Seto? We were reborn. We were given another life. A different life where we had the chance to meet again. We were allowed to become what we could not completely be in Egypt.

Free.

Free to make our own choices. How we choose to fuse the two lives together is our choice. With knowledge of both worlds, we become stronger.”

The reflective walls of the elevator reappeared. A few minutes passed in silence as Seto took in the comfort that Jou was offering. He shifted to lean on Jou, with their arms around each other. Breathing deeply he took in the scent of Jou’s shower gel. Underneath it was Jou’s unique scent. “Jani…” He turned his face up again to look at Jou. He smiled back at him softly. “You look so much like him.”

“I know. As you look like Seth.” He rested his head on Seto’s.

Seto laughed softly. “I’ve been a fool. I denied everything so strongly. I denied the existence of magic. I denied my past. And, I denied my attraction to you. Now I know why. Subconsciously, I didn’t want to remember because it hurt too much. Yet, the part of me that is Seth recognized you immediately.

In order to protect myself from Gozaburo I had to lock away my emotions. I guess that’s where he was until now. He wanted me to remember you. He’s been trying to tell me in a place where my emotions could not be controlled - my dreams. If I stayed away from you for too long, I saw you fading away into a large gray smoke cloud. If I tried to ignore them, they would only grow worse. I would wake up yelling for you. Other times he would show me moments of our time together. He buried his face back into Jou’s shirt. His rampaging emotions were still too unusual to control. “Now, there isn’t a…split between Seth and myself.”

“Like I said, we are a fusion of two worlds. You are finally the person you were meant to become in this life.” He hugged the brunet tightly.

Seto sighed. “I have all these memories floating around in my head. It will take a while to sort them out, and put them in the right order. All I can see is you…Jani dying.” He gripped Jou tighter. Jou’s cool hands ran up and down from the small of his back to the fine hairs at the base of his head.

Slow moments ticked by as Seto relaxed again into Jou. “I remember the look on your face. You would have moved heaven and hell to save me if you could. Somehow…I knew we would meet again. I told you that…remember?” His hands continued his gentle massage.

“Yes, you did.”

There was a long pause before Jou spoke quietly in Seto's ear. “What do we do now?”
