Chapter 8: Where Evil Lurks, Shadows Fall
Kali sat in her room watching the rain falling outside. She sighed heavily since her day had been spoiled. Atemu lay asleep on her bed and she looked at the kitten. But what was stranger was Ryou and Bakura haven't returned home yet. She frowned suddenly wondering where they were when the Millennium Ring appeared around her neck.
It was a sign of trouble.
"Daddy," she whispered when Kyra suddenly appeared in tight black leather pants, matching tank top, and her long hair in a ponytail through a black leather baseball cap. "Kali, Ryou and Father are in danger and need us," she said. "You must get a Duel Disk and cards. We must play a Shadow Game to save them." Kali looked at her sister and frowned as she grabbed Ryou's old Duel Disk and grabbed Bakura's deck. "What happened to them?" she asked in concern. "Kidnap," was all Kyra said. Kali frowned deeply and studied the Millennium Ring. Being of Bakura's blood, she had every right to hold onto it.
But to summon the Shadow Realm would be hard.
Kyra opened a window to see the Red Eyes Black Dragon waiting. He licked Kali's cheek causing her to giggle. "I haven't seen you since Egypt!" she said hugging him. Kyra smiled and climbed on taking the child in her arms. "We must wait in the shadows for them," she said. "I will let you know when to begin." Kali noticed a Duel Disk on Kyra's arm and frowned. "Are you sure you can do this, Big Sister?" she asked as they flew off on the dragon. Kyra nodded. "I played the Shadow Games 5,000 years ago," she said. "Now, they are called Duel Monsters, but the game is the same in ways. I can handle it. Don't worry."
Bakura woke up shackled to the wall by his wrists and ankles. They were made of iron and he was unable to break free of them. He grunted when he heard a chuckling sound. "The King of Thieves has returned," a man said walking from the shadows wearing a black hooded cloak. "It was told this would happen." Bakura growled. "Who the hell are you?!" he snapped angrily. The man pulled back his hood. "I am the reincarnation of a Spellcaster...one responsible for your village's slaughter," he said seriously. "My bloodline knew one had somehow managed to escape...you." Ryou woke up from the cage he was in and walked to the edge looking down. He gulped seeing he was at least fifty feet in the air. "Ryou!" Bakura gasped. "Bakura, what's going on?" Ryou cried.
"There's nothing you can do to save him," the man chuckled. "After I'm finished with you, you'll be dead." "Not on your life, you bastard!" Bakura snapped. The man used a whip and hit Bakura in the chest with it causing the spirit to wince in pain. "Seems like it will begin," he said chuckling. Just then, Kali and Kyra stood there in the shadows. "Let them go," Kyra said her voice filled with maliace. "I'd like to see that, young lady," the man chuckled. "Bakura here is about to endure more pain than you could imagine." He hit Bakura again with the whip several times opening new wounds. "Daddy!" Kali shouted her eyes now glazed over with anger. "You'll pay for that!" She summoned the Millennium Ring and the Shadow Realm appeared.
"The Shadow Realm..." the man said frowning. "How is it possible a young child could summon such?" "Easy," Kyra said. "We are both Bakura's daughters...one of the past and the other of the future. And now, we challenge you to a Shadow Game." The man chuckled revealing a Duel Disk inside his cloak. "I should've known to prepare for this," he said. Kali frowned as her Duel Disk snapped into action and she slid her deck inside. "The Heart of the Cards will stay with me," she whispered using what Yami taught her. Kyra made hers do the same and the man also did his. "Two against one," he chuckled. "I'll take you both down." Kyra looked at Kali. "We'll share Life Points," she said. "We have 8,000 like he does." Kali nodded seriously and frowned.
The Shadow Game soon began. "I place two cards face down and put this face down in Defense Mode," Kali said seriously. Kyra added two traps and another monster as well. The man placed a Axe Raider on the field and tried to attack. Kali chuckled. "Activate Mirror Force!" she shouted and the monster was destroyed. Kali then sacrficed one monster for Summoned Skull. "Try this on for size!" she shouted as the Fiend sent a Direct Hit to the man. Kyra smiled. "I use Monster Reborn and then sacrifice both our monsters for the Blue Eyes White Dragon!" she shouted. Kali smiled knowing the man didn't have much of a choice. "And I add an Axe of Despair to him!" she shouted. "NOW BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGON!" they shouted. "WHITE LIGHTNING ATTACK!"
The game was over. Kali looked at the Millennium Ring and nodded. "It's on you, Daddy!" she shouted as the Ring disappeared and reappeared around Bakura's neck. He gained his strength and his wounds healed. He broke free of his bonds and smiled. "Ryou, hang on," he said and the cage disappeared. Kyra caught the angel in his arms and he chuckled. "Nice catch!" he said. "You're my stepfather," she said raising an eyebrow. Kali ran to Ryou and he lifted her in his arms. "This time, Bakura, I approve of the bastard in this place," he said. Bakura nodded. "Welcome to your new home," he laughed as they disappeared hearing the man scream behind them.
The thunderstorm had stopped and the sun was out as the four walked out of the hideout. Kyra looked at the three and sighed. "Why do you have to go?" Kali asked suddenly. "Couldn't you be like Daddy and Uncle Yami?" "She has a point," Bakura said. "She has no one and to know her sister is around would help her a lot." Kyra sighed heavily and looked at him. "Kali and I share a life force, Father," she said. "It's like she's my hikari and I'm her yami. But if you insist on me staying, I will. It is only through you that I can gain a full body." Bakura nodded and put his hands on her shoulders whispering in Egyptian as Kyra became a whole person once more. Kali grinned and ran in her arms. Kyra lifted her in them and smiled.
"Let's go home, ladies," Ryou said. "Kyra, technically, I know you're 5,000 years old, but here you look fourteen, so you'll be listening to us from now on." Kyra blushed. "Sure thing, Papa," she said winking at Kali. Kali giggled nodding.
The next morning, Atemu woke Kali up jumping on her stomach. "Kali, Kyra! Time to get up!" Bakura shouted from the hallway. "OH BE QUIET DAMNIT!" Marik shouted from his room. "You raise enough hell to wake the dead!" Kali yawned and Bakura lifted her in his arms. "Kyra, Ryou's got you in school now, so you have one hour to get up and get ready," he said seriously. Kyra groaned in her sleep. "Father," she whined. "Don't give me that and get in gear," he warned. Kyra nodded and walked off.
Kali sat in Marik's lap as he brushed her hair and sighed. "All right, missy," he said kissing her cheek. "See you later." She nodded and the two girls left. Malik chuckled and watched them go. "Now we have to face other issues," he said. Bakura and Ryou paled knowing he had a point.
