Going Home?

Hello again. Once again, I’d like to thank Lightanddarkness for her beta work. And thank you for the reviews. I’m actually done with this story, and have another one that I’m contemplating right now. So whenever I get the time, I’ll upload the chapters. I think even I was surprised by the ending. It’s a little weird! So here’s the next chapter.

“Blah” - talking
‘blah’ - thinking

Over the next couple of days, Yugi avoided both Atemu and his friends. After classes, he would hide in a spot only he knew of. He would stay there until almost lights out, then run up to his room, climb into bed and pretend to fall asleep. Telling anyone who asked that he was at the library all day.

Atemu watched Yugi doodle on his paper again. This was the third day in a row that Yugi had ignored him. The prince was starting to get irritated. As the bell rang for lunch, he held the boy back, intending on having it out with him.

Looking at Yugi from under his blonde bangs, he noticed that the little one was fidgety. He’d shift from one foot to the other and play with the buttons on his jacket. The only thing he hadn’t done was look up from the floor.

“Little one, what the…?” Atemu lifted the boy’s chin to look into his eyes, and gasped. His face was flushed; his eyes glassy and Atemu felt the heat from the boy’s skin.

Just then, Yugi’s eyes rolled back into his head and he collapsed. Atemu picked him up and hauled butt to the infirmary. Once there, he caught the attention of the school’s only nurse.

“Put him in here.” She said, opening the door to one of the offices. “I already know how to deal with him. Thank you Mr…. Oh my gods!”

She had turned to face him, eyes widening, before bowing low to the floor. “Your Highness, I didn’t know that you were here.” She said.

“I…Y-you know who I am? But how? Who are you?” He stuttered, caught off guard.

My name’s Adele, Your Highness. Yes, I am Aemohan. I decided to stay in the human world. I came here when I was younger, and fell in love with a wonderful man. He’s passed on about ten years ago, no children. But I’ve been here for twenty before that, so I stay. I tend to go where I notice either an Aemohan or Ehrenien aura. I noticed his last year. He’s lucky I did. There were two others. But they’ve already molted. He hasn’t, yet. He’s getting ready to, though. And he’s having a bad time of it.” She said.

Atemu just nodded, watching as she pulled out a syringe and other supplies.

“Here, turn him over. He has only about a month before his wings come out. I was going to kidnap him until he was done, but I don’t know where to keep him until he learns to hide them.” She continued.
She talked as she pulled his pants down and inserted the thermometer.

“See this tattoo. I think he’s Ehrenien Royalty. But what he’s still doing here, I don’t know. I only sense two others with him. I had hoped that someone would come and get him before now. The war’s been over for years. Well you know that, you’ve been ruling their kingdom for a while, right? I think these three have been forgotten. There, I’m done. Wow, 104 degrees. Hold him steady now, so I can give him this shot.”

Atemu held the little one as she injected the serum. Yugi cried out weakly and then stilled.

“No… They haven’t forgotten him. We were told that he was dead. And the others with him. My friends and I were looking for some time out of our realm. A couple of my friends knew his friends, and that’s how we ended up here. Finding him was quite a surprise, though. But as he’s my betrothed, I’ll look after him until it’s time to return to Aemoha. Thank you for helping him, Adele.”

Together, they redressed Yugi. Then Atemu carried him back to their room. Instead of laying him in bed, he took the boy and sat in the chair holding him.

‘Oh gods! What do I do? I can’t go back yet. My uncle will get to me. But Yugi will have to leave soon. There’s no where else to go. What do I do? I’m so scared that I can’t even think straight.’

Yugi stirred in his arms. Amethyst eyes opening slowly, to widen once their owner saw where he was. Then he started to struggle out of the other’s embrace.

“Let me go, please.”

“Easy little one. Let me explain.” Atemu calmed his little light.

“You passed out in class, and I took you to the healer’s. I think that tomorrow, when you are clear headed, we need to have a discussion. You don’t have much time before you start going through some major changes. But for now, you need to rest. It’s been a long day and you’re not exactly in the condition to hear this.”

‘That is if you even believe half of what I have to say’, he added to himself.

Standing up, he walked over and put Yugi in his bed and covered him up. Yugi fell asleep almost instantly. Atemu, on the other hand, was awake well into the night.

The next morning, Atemu was up early. He knew that some explanation was needed. He just wasn’t too sure of what to explain and what to leave for another day. Humans weren’t the most open minded individuals, and Yugi was raised as one. His best bet was to gather their little group for a Q&A session.

When Yugi awoke, Atemu told him to go take a shower first. He told the boy that their friends were needed for some of this discussion. Then he walked out of the room to go and find the others.

Yugi stepped out of the bathroom feeling refreshed. He didn’t know what all the fuss was about, but it was obviously something big to Atemu, if he had to get the others in on this. Walking into the bedroom, he did a double take. There in the room were six rather large men. All dressed in military – like clothing. And they were all sporting large black feathered wings.

‘I’ve got to still be sleeping.’ He thought to himself.

Suddenly one of the men grabbed him by his collar and hauled him up until they were eye to eye. “Where’s the prince?” he roared.

Yugi had no idea who he was talking about, and said so. Then he was thrown to the ground at the man’s feet. ‘Ow, that hurt! I don’t think this is a dream. Oh shit, this man’s gonna kill me’

At that moment, Atemu and the others walked through the door. Everyone froze. Atemu looked at Yugi, laying at the feet of one of the council’s top guards, and snarled. “Nobody touches my aibou! Not like that!”

Summoning his power to him, he raised his hand and sent a blast of magic at the guilty guard. Screaming, the man disappeared from sight. He then walked up to the other stunned guards.

“You have no idea who he is, do you?” he growled, picking Yugi up in his arms. “He is my betrothed! My aibou! Touch him and die. Do you understand me?”

The head guard stepped forward, bowing at the waist, and said, “Our apologies, your highness. If he is indeed your betrothed, then we will not harm him. As for the lot of you, the council says to bring you back home. By force, if necessary. Please don’t make us do it that way.”

“Oh shit! Busted!” Marik said.

The five Aemohans looked at each other. There was no other choice. They knew that they couldn’t run from these particular guards. Not with their youngest getting ready to molt. With heads bowed, they consented to go back to their home.

Yugi’s arms were wrapped around Atemu’s neck as he sobbed into his shoulder. He didn’t really understand the whole conversation, but he knew that the other had to go home. He didn’t want the older boy to leave. They had grown pretty close over the past year.

“This will be that much easier for you to understand when I explain, but for now, sleep little one.” Atemu whispered as he touched the boy’s forehead.

Yugi fell limp in the prince’s arms. One of the guards tried to take the boy from him, and was knocked unconscious for his trouble. Bakura and Marik followed his lead and rendered their mates unconscious. It was time to go home.

“I am warning you four now. Tell Yugi anything about my issue, and you and I will have problems. Understood?” Atemu asked as he gazed at his friends, each in turn.

“You’re being a fool, Atemu.” Seto replied.

“It has been noted, Seto.”

One of the guards opened a portal and they stepped through, surrounded on all sides by the rest of the guards. But not before Atemu had snatched Yugi’s only picture of his grandfather and put it in his pocket. It was the least he could do for the little one, after causing so much trouble in the boy’s life.

Back at the palace, Atemu, Seto, Bakura, and Marik were separated as the council tried to find a suitable punishment for their crimes. Since Jou was only following his aibou, he was forgiven, but not trusted around the four primary offenders. So he was put in a room with the other Ehreniens.

Yugi woke up to find himself on a spacious bed in a large, well decorated room. Looking to the corner, he noted an old man asleep in a padded chair.

“Grandpa?” he croaked.

Siamun looked up to see his young charge awake and staring at him oddly.
“Oh, your highness, I wasn’t aware that you were awake. How are you feeling? Can I get you something?”

“Grandpa?” Yugi croaked, again, a little louder this time.

“No young one, I’m not your grandpa. I did meet him once, though. Nice man. We do look quite a bit alike. Of course, you remind me of Prince Atemu from a couple of years ago. A little more innocence in your eyes, though.” Siamun continued.

“Where am I? Where are my friends? I want to go home!”

“There, there, young prince. I will let you see your friends after I check your temperature.” Siamun said as he patted Yugi on the head.

As soon as Yugi heard the word ‘temperature’ he was off the bed and heading towards the door. Siamun, it seems, knew exactly what he was going to do, and he ended up running straight into the old man, instead.

“I had a lot of practice in dealing with Prince Atemu. Sorry young one, but you’re not getting out of here before I do this.” He said as he hauled a violently protesting Yugi back over to the bed.

“Oh Yugi, are you okay?” Ryou asked as he enveloped his friend in a tight hug.

Malik was yelling at the guard about not being able to see his lover. As he did so, the old man walked into the room and said that he would let them know what was to happen to the four Aemohans for leaving the kingdom with the underage prince.

He left them with the understanding that the four guilty parties would be grounded to their rooms until further notice, with guards. And that they would be lucky to escape corporal punishment.

“But you can’t separate them! That makes it easy for the asshole to get to Atemu…” Jou clapped his hands over his mouth.

“Jou, if it weren’t for Seto being your mate, you would be punished too. You’re walking a thin line right now. I’ll give you that you are supposed to obey your aibou, but nothing more than that. I don’t want to hear another complaint from you. And for your information, I sent Mahado to guard Prince Atemu. So whatever you’re worried about, stop. Just who do you think is after the prince, anyways?” Siamun questioned.

“Nothing, never mind.” Jou mumbled

Soon after, the guard left, with the old man behind him. And Yugi turned his glare on his ‘so-called’ friends.

“We would have told you earlier, but we were commanded not to, by our parents. Besides, would you really have believed us?” Ryou asked, holding his hand up.

“We couldn’t exactly show you our wings in the other dimension without draining our energy. We’re still amateurs at that sort of thing.” Malik added.

“I don’t care. You should have said something! Wait! Wings? You guys have wings? If you have wings, I want to see them. And why don’t I have any?” asked Yugi.

So between Ryou and Malik, they not only showed him their wings, they explained why he didn’t have his yet. Then they explained the painful process of molting to the young prince. By the end of the discussion, Yugi was quite pale.

“They really just sprout out of your back all at once?!” asked Yugi, looking kind of green.

“Yeah, but don’t worry, we’re here for you. And they have good painkillers here.” Said Jou, giving him thumbs up.

In the following weeks, the foursome was able to explore the palace. On the condition that they stay together whenever they were out of the room. And no contact with those in confinement.

Everyone in the palace knew when the confinement was up. The palace officials started working harder and things got more chaotic. Even so, after a few days of normal, Yugi still hadn’t seen Atemu.

“I don’t care. I’m only going down the hall. I’ll be right back, I promise.” Yugi said as he slipped out the door to their room. As he turned around, he came face to face with Atemu in his ceremonial attire.

“Holy shi…” Yugi’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t think past what the Aemohan prince was wearing (or not wearing as the case may be). “I…, uh Atemu, H-how are y-you?” he stuttered.

Jou shut the door and walked over to Yugi, tipping his mouth closed. “He doesn’t like to be stared at, Yugi. It makes him uncomfortable.” He whispered to his friend.

“But, I’m not staring.” Yugi said, blushing brightly.

Atemu figured that the little one was still upset with him, so he turned to walk away. Until he heard the boy scream. He whipped back around to find the little one on the floor, writhing in agony.

It just gets weirder from here on out.
