Chapter 6
A soft clicking woke Jou up. He was disoriented, the room was dark and the only light was soft blue glow that illumined a strong chest and frightening blue eyes and it was coming from the far corner of the room.
“Is this another client?”
“So you’re awake.” The light was suddenly gone and the clicking had stopped. “Good.”
Jou felt something pinching his hand rubbing his fingers against the back of his hand he felt the plastic tube that connect to the syringe that was imbedded in his body and he could hear the steady drip of and I.V.
Hospital! He was in a Goddamn hospital. Jou started to panic.
There were just too many painful memories, too many doctors and too much pain.
He was sitting up on the bed about to rip the I.V. out of his arm until pair of strong arms wrapped around him.
“Don’t, the I.V. is to help you, so don’t pull it out. They’ll just put it back in.”
“No! The doctors they’ll”
“Last night you trusted me to keep you safe.” Seto said in his still disguised voice. “Trust me again now.”
Jou shuddered and went limp into the stranger’s arms. Not knowing why but fully trusting the stranger that was wrapped around him. “Who are you?” Soft sensual laughter tickled Jou’s ear.
“Who am I? Last night the case was what I am?” Seto said relaxing his grip somewhat so he could comfortable hold his puppy but spring into action in case his puppy panicked again.
“What you are?” Jou asked confused
“You said I was a dragon.” Seto could feel the blush that crept into Jou’s face.
Jou nervously started to play with the stranger’s hands. His hands were soft and big, he had long fingers. ‘His hands are soft but hard …like claws.’
“Do you trust me to keep you safe Jou-pup?”
Jou felt as though the seven plagues could sweep right into the room and he would be safe as long as this stranger, this dragon was holding him. “Yes.”
“Good.”
The stranger started to move away. Jou panicked if the stranger left he would lose him in this darkness forever.
Jou quick turned around and latch onto this dragon determined not to let go. “Don’t leave it’s not safe if you go.”
“Then I won’t leave, not until it’s safe.” Seto started to move again only to feel his puppy’s grip tighten. He heard his puppy’s voice speak shyly.
“Stay with me. Hold me. I, I- I feel safe when you hold me.” His voice started to tremble, “please hold me.” Jou hated himself for the way he acted. He was so pathetic but he couldn’t help it, he had never felt safe in his life. Jou liked not having to worry, knowing someone would take care of him. This dragon would probably turn away in disgust.
“I’ll hold you.” ‘If I could I would hold you until the end of time.’ “Move over a bit so we can fit.”
Jou, more then happy, moved over to the other side of the small hospital bed. He was practically forced to lie on top of the mysterious dragon. They stayed that way for hours talking and cuddling.
And that’s how it was for two days, the two happiest days of Jou’s life. At night he would fall asleep in his dragon arms and would wake up to the sound of soft clicking and the smell of smuggled fast food. And they would lie on the bed and cuddle until Jou fell asleep. If his life ended tomorrow Jou would die happy.
Jou slowly open his eyes to be greeted by the soft glow of the sun peaking through his windows. He smiled and stretched his arms over his head.
“Jou, Are you awake?”
Jou’s eyes quickly snapped open and a pair of large purple eyes greeted him. Smiling he reached up and pulled his best friend into a tight hug, burying his face into Yugi’s wild hair.
Looking around his now brightly lit hospital room he saw all of his friends. Ryou, Malik, Yugi and Honda were right next to his hospital bed. Grinning broadly relief shining clearly on their faces. Otogi hovered near by and was playing with some of the hospital equipment. Bakura, Yami and Marik were standing near the door waiting for their chance to greet the blond.
“Hey guys.”
All at once he found himself in a three-way hikari bear hug as all three tried to squeeze him to death.
“Oh Jou we were so worried.” Yugi half laughed half cried into Jou chest. “You’ve been missing for like, three days and when the hospital called we didn’t know what had happened.”
“Yes, you gave us quite a scare, Blondie.” Bakura snapped at the blonde. He words were dripping with venom but his eyes and his face reveling relief and contentment. There were sight dark circle around his eyes, as though he hadn’t sleep well in that few days. Taking a closer look he noticed that all his friends showed signs of weariness as well.
“Why were you guys so worried? It not like I haven’t drop out of sight before.”
The room suddenly became as quite as a tome.
Taking a deep breath Yami and broke the unnerving silence.
“Jou we know.”
Feeling a cold shiver run up his spine. Knowing what was about to happen and hoping to prolong it Jou feigned innocents. “What are you talking about Yami?”
“It’s been all over the news man. Why didn’t you ever tell us? We could have helped you.” Honda cut in.
“what are you talking about!?” Jou was on the edge of hysteria. Begging the gods that this wasn’t happening. That the world now knew of his shameful secret.
Taking Jou’s trembling hands in his small, baby soft ones; Yugi gave it a reassuring squeeze. “We know what your father’s been doing to you Jou. There’s no need to hide it from us any longer.”
“No you can’t know- I can’t have- you weren’t supposed to- where’s the dragon?” Jou franticly looked around the room just realizing that since he had woken up he hadn’t heard the reassuring clicking.
“Dragon? Jou are you o-” Yugi was suddenly knocked off the bed by his best friend frantic movements.
Jou was desperately trying to get out of the bed while the three Yami’s held him in place.
“Jou calm down.” Marik hissed at the sandy hair blond.
“No you don’t understand it’s not safe here. Not without the dragon.”
“Jou you’re not making any sense.” Yami nearly yelled as he tried to pin down the blonde’s arms.
“There are no such thing as dragon’s in this realm” Bakura growled after being kicked in his stomach.
“It’s not safe, let me go.” Jou practically screamed. Tears of frustration and fear running down his face. “It’s not safe without the dragon.”
“Yugi, go find a doctor, hurry!” Yami yelled at the shaken hikaris.
They quickly scrambled out of the room. Retuning with a soft, short, balding man.
One look at the man and Jou increased his effort to escape.
“Now, now Katsuya don’t struggle or it will only hurt more.” The small doctor calmly said as he walked over to the still struggling teen. As he injected clear liquid into the blonde’s arm.
Jou still continued to struggle even as the drug started to affect him. “No stop! Please stop. The dragon said, the dragon, my dragon...” Jou’s voice faded.
“Don’t worry. The drug I gave him will knock him out for a while.” The doctor said slowly running his hands through the blonde’s hair as he eyes started to glaze over and drool collected at the corner of his mouth as he lay limply on the bed.
“Will he be alright?” Ryou asked shivering slightly as his Yami stroked his hair.
“Yes he’ll be fine. But I think it would be best if you all left for now too many people might excite him again.”
“But” Yugi was quickly cut off by the doctor.
“There’s no need to worry. He’ll be well taken care of here.” The doctor said.
“Maybe I should stay. Just in case.” Yami started.
“No he’ll be better alone. All of you all go now, doctors orders.” he said
Reluctantly they all left the room, shooing everyone to the cafeteria.
The yami’s sat in front of Jou’s room, as though guarding it.
“I don’t like this pharaoh.” Bakura snarled as he paced in front of the door.
“Calm down tomb robber.”
“No, I will not calm down pharaoh. There is someone in there that I hold dear to my heart. I do not want or like being on the other side of this fucking door.” He nearly yelled as he kicked the offending door.
“Nor do I, but we can not disturb him.”
“Why not?” Bakura asked viciously as he started to pace in front of the door again.
“We would be doing more harm then good.” Yami said sadly and sighed.
“I hate this. I want to be chasing Jou around my kitchen while he tries to steal one of my desserts. I don’t want him to be in a fucking hospital.” Marik said as he crossed his arm over his chest.
“So do I, my friends.” Yami whispered and hung his head.
There was a sharp clacking of shoes walking quickly on the tiled floor. Curious Yami looked up to see who it could be in this part of the hospital.
Seto Kaiba came into view, holding his steel briefcase and a bag of fast food. A soft smile played on his lips warming his features. When the sapphire blue eyes connected with blood red neither knew who was more shocked to see the other.
Seto quickly snapped out of his daze. “What are you doing here Atemu?”
“I could ask the same thing, dear cousin.” he said mockingly. Smirking at the way Kaiba’s hand tightened on his briefcase.
“Not that it any of you’re business but I have made some considerable donations to this hospital. And I wanted to see how my investment is going. Now tell me, oh great pharaoh, why are you here?”
“Very well High Priest.” Yami sighed and hung his head. “Jou is here. He’s being treated for abuse. Yami’s voice slightly shook. Quickly clearing his throat he looked Kaiba in straight in his deadly blue eyes. “I’m sure you know all about it. It’s been in the newspaper the passed few days.”
“Yes, I believe may have come across… something.” ‘Now that is the understatement of the year.’ Seto thought.
“Listen priest, we all know that the Jou isn’t you’re favorite person, but considering what he been through I’m hoping you will give us a break. None of us need the added stress.” Bakura snapped at him. “So I am going to ask nicely, and it may well kill me. I’m asking you to leave before we begin to fight or do something worst and upset Jou… please.”
“Wow I’m impressed tomb-robber. You’re one of the best bullshit artists I’ve ever seen.” Seto answered smirking.
“That’s it you fuckin’ prick.” Bakura snarled as he lunged at the young C.E.O. only to be held back by his two friends. “Let me go Atem.”
“Calm down Kura and remember what you just said. Neither Jou, nor the others need this kind of aggravation.”
“Yeah Kura, don’t let this asshole get the best of you.” Marik answered.
“Ah, Mr. Kaiba your back.” The round doctor said as he walked out of Jou’s room. “The patient-“
“Yes the patients how are they doing.”” Kaiba asked, quickly changing the subject as he grabbed the doctors elbow and started to steer him away from the hall the Yami’s were in. Stopping only when they were in another disserted corner of the hospital.
“Mr. Kaiba I’m confused, you only left one patient here in our care. Do you mean to tell me you have brought more?” He voice becoming excited.
Seto had to fight the growl that was growing in this throat. He could at ready see the dollar signs and the publicity shining in the doctor’s piggy little eyes.
“No I haven’t, Jou is the only one I’ve left in your care. But I did not want to those men to know that I was the one who brought him here, that I have been taking care of his hospital bills or that I have been visiting him. I would like to keep that information confidential.”
“Yes Mr. Kaiba, I understand. Will you be visiting him today.”
“No”. Seto sighed. “I can’t now.”
“Well good, good. I think that would be best. He had quite a bit of an episode, just now.”
Seto eyes narrowed at the doctor. Scaring, the poor old man. In years to come he would swear that he saw the every pits of hell burning in the C.E.O.’s eyes. “Explain yourself doctor.”
The word tumbling out he explained how Jou had been calm one minute and then started to ramble on about dragons. “It was really quite odd. He had a horrible fit. I had to give him a tranquilizer.”
The once deadly blue eyes had softened as he listened to the doctor’s words. “I see. Just give this to him.” he said passing the doctor the over-filled fast food bag, filled the brim with all the kinds of food his puppy ate. The pain and sadness in his voice was heart crushing. “And this.” Seto said as he quickly pulled out a pen and a piece of paper from his pocket and wrote a quick note and drew a beautiful claw print at the edge of the paper. “And don’t tell him who the note is from. He’ll automatically know it’s me.”
“Yes Mr. Kaiba, good day sir.”
“Good day doctor.” Kaiba repeated as he walked down the hallway to the closet exit. He heeled boots clicking as he went. Leaving the muted doctor behind as he stalked of somewhere.
Yami quickly walked back to Jou’s room. He couldn’t remember being this excited or happy since he had finally been given his own body and he could actually kiss and hold his aibou with a real body. Seto had finally accepted that he loved Jou. He could hear it, feel it in the way his cousin has spoke about the blonde. All worry and disappointment he had heard in his cousin’s voice at being able had made his heart sore he probably even already realized that Jou was his sole mate to. Yami smiled and hugged himself, soon their bond would be complete and his cousin wouldn’t be alone. He would be safe and loved. Yami smiled the rest of the way to Jou’s room. To guard his cousin’s golden puppy.
