chapter seven
“Mokuba!” Seto exclaimed as his brother burst into his room, “What’s wrong.”
“I’m sorry. I just wanted you to love me.” He cried.
Seto guided his brother to sit on his bed and gently hugged him, “Tell me what’s happened.”
“I can’t. You’ll hate me.”
“I won’t hate you Mokuba. You need to tell me why you’re so upset.”
“I was jealous because you spent so much time with him. I thought you didn’t love me anymore.”
“Jealous? Of Joey?”
“Uh huh.” Mokuba sniffled and wiped his tears away, “Duke told me that if he was gone then you’d love me again. So I’ve been helping him.”
Seto stood up quickly and took a step backwards, “Mokuba! Please tell me you’re lying.”
He threw himself at his brother and started crying again, soaking Seto’s shirt, “I’m so sorry big brother. I didn’t want to hurt you. I just wanted you to love me again.”
“By killing Joey!?”
“Joey’s not dead. It was a set-up. And the tape you saw today wasn’t real. It was all faked.”
Seto took a minute to process what Mokuba had said before grasping his shoulders tightly, “Joey’s alive?”
“Yes. The tape was faked.”
“Where is he?”
“The abandoned house on the outskirts of town.”
“Stay here Mokuba. Don’t leave the house.”
Seto opened his desk drawer and pulled out a handgun, before dashing out of the room.

Yami picked up the phone and braced himself for another heartbreaking conversation with his Aibou.
“Hello?” He said apprehensively.
“Yami!”
“Kaiba?”
“I know where they are!”
“What!?”
“Yugi and Joey. I know where they are.”
“Joey… but…”
“He’s not dead. It was faked.”
“Where are they?”
“The old abandoned house just out side town.”
Yami hung up the phone and grabbed his jacket before taking off at a run.

“Damn that kid. He’s going to ruin everything.”
“Seto and Yami are gonna waste ya.” Joey laughed.
“I can’t let that happen before I finish my plan.”
“There’s nothing you can do about it. You’re busted.”
“Foolish dog. My aim was to make Yami and Yugi suffer. You and Kaiba were just a side dish… and now you are no use to me.”
Joey barely had time to register what Duke had said before he felt his hands wrap themselves around his throat.
“No! Get off him.” Yugi cried. “Leave him alone.”

Seto pulled up outside the house and broke the front door down, anxiously looking around for any sign of his puppy. He didn’t have to look for long because from upstairs there was a crash and the sounds of someone yelling. He quickly ran up the stairs, taking them two at a time, and followed the screams to a room at the end of the hall.
“STOP IT! YOU’LL KILL HIM!” He heard Yugi screaming.
Seto threw the door open violently and froze in horror at what he saw, unconsciously dropping the handgun. Yugi was handcuffed to a bed, blood covering his thighs, the sheets and even the surrounding floor. But what made his blood run cold was the sight of Duke on top of Joey, his hands around his neck.
“JOEY!” He cried, trying to pull the crazy psycho off his love.
“S… Seto.” Joey managed to gasp before his eyes closed and his head fell back against the floor.
“NO!” Seto punched Duke in the face, making him release Joey’s neck.
“Kaiba!” Yugi sobbed, “Is he okay?”
Seto ignored Yugi’s question and hugged Joey’s limp body to his chest, “Puppy. Please wake up.”
“Dragon.” Joey whispered.
“You’re alive.” Tear filled Seto’s eyes.
“Course love. I’m not leaving ya yet.” Joey closed his eyes and went back into a state of unconsciousness.
“Well isn’t this sweet. Now you can watch him die.” Duke snickered.
“You are the one who is going to die.”
“I don’t think so.” Duke bent over and picked up the gun Seto had dropped, “Oh dear, is this yours?”
Seto growled.
“You’d better be nicer to me than that or I’ll put a bullet hole in your dogs pretty little face.”

Yami narrowed his eyes as he noticed Seto’s car parked outside the house.
“Trust him not to wait. That idiot is going to get himself killed.”
He was about to call the police when a gunshot rang out.
“AIBOU!”
“I’m sorry. I just wanted you to love me.” He cried.
