Chapter 7
The Shadow Realm
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
THIS IS MAJOR AU
Ahmose paced around his room in deep thought. It was finally time. Over the last year, he and Yugioh had been training in Shadow Magic, and they were finally making the journey into the Shadow Realm to meet the Shadow Monsters and find the one that would be loyal to them alone. Yugioh, as the Crown Prince, was to go first, and that’s where he was now. The boy was wandering the Shadow Realm, and Ahmose had found no peace while he could not watch over his Prince. The Pharaoh had assured him that no one would dare attack Yugioh, especially since he wore the Millennium Puzzle around his neck. But this did not help Ahmose relax. He lifted his head when he felt a flux of Shadow Magic from the Key around his neck, and he whirled and ran down to the Shadow Grounds beneath the dungeons of the palace. He saw that everyone else had gathered, awaiting the return of their Prince.
The nobles of the court watched a gateway to the Shadow Realm was ripped open, and a tall figure stepped out. The Pharaoh stood, eyes wide, as he beheld the powerful Dark Magician stepping into view, with the Prince in his arms. The Pharaoh rushed forwards, and Ahmose ran up behind him.
“Yugioh!” The Pharaoh gasped, and the Dark Magician knelt, setting Yugioh on his feet. The Prince ran to his father. “Are you alright?”
“The Shadow Realm was too draining.” The Dark Magician said.
“You, you have pledged your allegiance to Yugioh?” The Pharaoh croaked, and the Dark Magician nodded and smiled at the young Prince.
“Then it is Ahmose’s turn.” Ptashepses said, and the Dark Magician blinked, and looked at Ahmose, then stepped aside and motioned for the boy to precede him into the Shadow Realm. Ahmose blinked as Yugioh threw his arms around his neck and hugged him.
“You’ll be okay.” He said with a smile, then whispered, “Wait til you see the Petite Angel.” Yugioh giggled, then stepped away. Ahmose blinked, then squared his shoulder and nodded, turning and walking past the Dark Magician and into the Shadow Realm. He gasped as he felt the place draining his energy, but he quickly began a circulation between the Key and himself. The Key drew power from the Shadow Realm, Ahmose drew power from the Key, and the Shadow Realm drew power from Ahmose. Keeping the flow going in a circle, Ahmose felt very calm as the portal closed behind him and the Dark Magician, who vanished. He took a deep breath, and strode into the Shadow Realm, easily sensing the monsters around him, watching him and whispering to one another about him. He closed his eyes briefly, extending his hearing and picked up on conversations here and there.
“--not of royal blood—“
“--very powerful—“
“--human boy—“
“--odd power surrounding him—“
“--not like the little Prince—“
“--will not serve the likes of him—“
“--can hear us—“
Ahmose smirked slightly as he continued to walk, his glowing gold eyes picking up flashes of movement and curious eyes here and there. He caught a glimpse of curious blue eyes belonging to a blonde girl in baby blue and pink before she squeaked and vanished from sight. Her uniform reminded him of that belonging to the Dark Magician. He was not able to mistake the enormous white hulk and glowing blue eyes of the beast under the command of High Priest Sethos, and not long after, he caught a glimpse of narrow red eyes belonging to a large black draconic beast, which let loose a curious rumble from his throat before vanishing into the blackness. There was a sudden flash, and he leapt back, instinctively drawing his blade. Sparks flew as the blade clashed with that of a tall elven being in brown with a green cloak. Ahmose and the monster lowered their blades, Ahmose eyeing the beast, the beast snorting and sheathing his blade.
“Who are you?” Ahmose asked.
“Celtic Guardian.” The Monster said, and Ahmose eyed him. “You are the protector of our Prince?”
“I am.” Ahmose said, and then yelped as the Celtic Guardian attacked again. He whirled at another flash and blocked the blow sent his way by a large monster that he had seen before; The Buster Blader. He leapt back as the Celtic Guardian and Buster Blader continued their attack, and then, he was forced to leap to the side and roll as Gaia the Fierce Knight nearly rode him down. He leapt to his feet and dodged as a large black staff was struck down, and he wildly ran to avoid the attacks of the Magician of Black Chaos, only to find himself face to face with the Black Luster Soldier. Yelping, Ahmose ducked under the attack and rolled to the side, only to find himself surrounded when he got to his feet. He turned, and stared at the Dark Magician.
“We approve.” The Dark Magician said, and the monsters all melted into the darkness. Ahmose stared around wide eyed, then dropped to his knees, panting, as his adrenaline rush left him shaking. After a moment, he heard footsteps, and he looked up as a tall blonde elf in a long green dress appeared. She looked at him and smiled.
“Are you alright?” She asked, and Ahmose slowly nodded at the Mystical Elf. “Good. They meant you no harm. They are beasts who have pledged loyalty to Prince Yugioh. They were merely testing you to see if you met their approval as his body guard.” Ahmose made an irritated face, and the Mystical Elf laughed, and then vanished. Ahmose snorted and stood, sheathing his blade and looking around. He was once again, alone.
He wandered for what felt like hours, hearing and feeling the monsters around him, but never seeing. Until, suddenly, a great beast slowly crept into his view, watching him, and sniffing at him. Ahmose identified the animal as the Mad Dog of Darkness. He watched the horned dog approach him, snuffling warily. Ahmose did not move. He merely stood and let the dog sniff. After a while, the dog sat beside him, and Ahmose slowly reached out. The dog snorted, and touched Ahmose’s hand with his nose, then licked his hand, and Ahmose smiled.
The Mad Dog of Darkness became the first to pledge himself to Ahmose. Ahmose nodded silently, and continued walking. Every now and then, a monster would show himself as the boy passed, only to fall in behind him with the dog. Among them were the Witch of the Black Forest, Dark Blade, Bazoo the Soul Eater, and the Shadow Ghoul. But for some reason, Ahmose knew that they were not the one monster he would trust above all, like the Dark Magician was to Yugioh.
And as he continued, only more added themselves, the Mask of Darkness, the Fiber Jar, the Opticlops, the Harpie’s Brother, Sangan, and Big Eye. He was silently grateful that the Petite Angel, Shining Friendship and Happy Lover didn’t follow him, he would never live it down. But suddenly, he stopped. There, floating cross-legged in the air was a monster, staring right at him. The black clad monster had yellow décor around its head, with red baubles dangling here and there. Ahmose stared at it, and it stared at him. He had never seen this being.
“Who are you?” Ahmose said, finally, and the monster smirked.
“Maha Vailo, my Master.” It said, and bowed to him. Ahmose blinked, knowing immediately that this was the one. The other monsters that had gathered behind him vanished, leaving him facing the Maha Vailo.
“Why pledge your loyalty to me?”
“Destiny, O Master. You are a spell caster. You cast the spells on me, and I will become stronger. Not only by the spells you cast, but by merely having a spell cast upon me, I grow stronger, no matter what the spell does.” Ahmose’s eyes glittered.
“Really?”
“I was practically made for you, Master. And I have never served anyone as I will serve you. I can only serve those who will use my power properly and skillfully. And you will, Master.”
“Tell me more of your power...” Ahmose said, and the monster bowed, and began.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Yugioh and all the others gathered looked up as the gate to the Shadow Realm opened once again. Ahmose stepped out, looking tired, but proud. And behind him strode the Maha Vailo. Wosret's jaw dropped.
“The Maha Vailo?!” Ptahshepses gasped. “None have ever controlled him!!!”
“Ah, but none have ever controlled the Dark Magician either.” The Pharaoh said, smiling proudly at the young man that was a son to him in every way but blood. He looked down fondly at his own son, who ran to Ahmose and threw his arms around his neck.
“Wow!!! Who is this, Ahmose?!” Yugioh was saying, and Ahmose proudly introduced the Maha Vailo. The Pharaoh smiled at the two boys. Ahmose was his pride, and Yugioh his joy. He hoped to see them grow closer in the next few years.
Finally, Maha Vailo returned to the Shadow Realm, and Ahmose followed Yugioh to his bedroom, where the Prince collapsed, exhausted. Of course, it amused the court to no end that Ahmose was also exhausted, and never made it to his own room. He curled up with Yugioh in the Prince’s bed, and the two boys drifted off, cuddled up together as they had when they were little. It was sights like these that reminded the Pharaoh why life was worth living, and also reminded him of how little life he had left to live...
