Mariku felt his heart wrench with pain as he observed Yugi and Atemu. His sharp eyes detected the dullness of the normally shining brilliant amethyst jewels when Atemu grabbed his hikari and kissed him passionately. He winced at the almost imperceptible shudder that rippled through the slender body as the former Pharaoh whispered something in the younger one's ear. He wondered what Atemu had done to cause the subtle withdrawal of Yugi's unwavering devotion to his darker half. The unbreakable bond between their souls was slowly fraying. It was only a matter of time before it broke completely. When that happened, the diminutive teen's soul would be shattered. Remembering his promise to Shadi, he vowed that he would do do whatever was necessary to protect the hikaris.
On the surface, Ryou and Kura seemed happy to be together, but Malik wasn't fooled by the cheerful display that the white-haired hikari was portraying. He knew Ryou better than anyone, except for his yami, and he could sense how uncomfortable the passive teen was being the dominant partner in their relationship. And Kura? There was no trace of the former thief king, the fearless tomb robber; he had transformed into a gentle, caring sensitive teen. What had gone wrong with their resurrection? And was there any way to correct the problem?
He sent a mental message to his koibito. // Can you keep the yamis occupied tomorrow? I'd like to take Yugi and Ryou out for a few hours without them. Hopefully, they will open up and I can learn exactly what is going on with each couple. And you can use your powers of persuasion to ascertain the changes in Atemu and Kura.//
\I'll do my best, koishii. Perhaps I can take them to the Valley of the Kings.\
//Okay. Just let me know where you will be; I don't want our paths to cross accidently. I need time to get Ryou and Yugi to open up and admit that something is terribly wrong with their relationships. Ryou's is fairly obvious, but Yugi...his isn't as easy to determine. I do get the sense that he is afraid of Atemu, that his love for the Pharaoh has been damaged.//
\I understand, hikari. We'll determine later tonight where we will each go.\
After dinner, the three couples grouped together in the spacious living area to watch a movie. Mariku and Malik cuddled together in the large recliner, Ryou and Bakura claimed the couch, the yami stretching out with his head lying in his tenshi's lap, and Atemu claimed the loveseat. He pulled Yugi down to his lap, his grip possessive. The tiny teen stiffened, but, unwilling to make a scene, didn't resist, even as the long slender fingers slid up his thigh to brush casually against his groin. "Biaw," he murmured, reminding the hikari again that he belonged to him.
"Relax, koi," Malik whispered to his yami, feeling him tense up at the Pharaoh's aggressive, uncaring actions. "We need to stay calm; tomorrow we will find out exactly what is happening with each couple."
The spiky-haired yami settled down, focusing his attention on the albino couple. He sighed heavily; the sight of the fearsome thief king lying passively in his hikari's lap, letting Ryou be in control, depressed him. His piercing lavender eyes narrowed as he spied the Pharaoh watching Kura, lust shining in those haunting crimson eyes. His hands clenched tightly into fists.
The exotic Egyptian hikari tensed up as he recognized the killing rage racing through his yami. Quickly, he opened their mind-link. //Mariku? What is wrong? You look like you want to kill someone.//
\I do. That baka Atemu. He's not content with possessing Yugi, he's lusting after Kura as well. I'll kill him if he tries anything. Kura isn't himself; he won't be able to defend himself.\
Malik's eyes wandered to the Pharaoh, his beautiful eyes widening as he found himself the recipient of those burning ruby eyes. Shivers traveled along his nerves as he detected desire in those fiery depths. He effectively blocked that thought from his mind, knowing all too well what his koishii yami would do. Silently, he prayed to Ra that Atemu would refrain from approaching him. He also wished desperately for his koibito to discover a way to set things right with Kura and Atemu without having to send them back to the underworld. He didn't think that his friends could survive losing their yamis again; but he also knew that Yugi and Ryou couldn't continue in relationships with the strangers trapped in their koibito's bodies.
*******************************************************Okay, I know its a short chappie, but I just wanted to let you know what Malik and Mariku have discovered about their friends. The next one will be longer, I promise!
