WAIT FOR YOU FOREVER
CHAPTER 7
Mokuba's watch was a gift from Seto, received on his sixteenth birthday. It was very sleek, and very beautiful, with silver fixtures and a blue gem set at twelve o'clock. Mokuba had often thought that if his brother turned into a watch, it would look like this. However, if a watch ever was modelled on Seto, Mokuba was sure that it would be water resistant to a hundred metres, would include a calculator and a holographic GPS system. It would also include the date.
Mokuba was walking back to Yugi's house, trying to figure out if he had only spent one hour at the club, or if he had been there for twenty-five. Or if he had come out into a virtual world in which it was always dark. Because his beautiful Seto-watch was reading half-past four, but Mokuba had his suspicions that he'd spent a lot of time dancing and drinking and dancing again and drinking some more and possibly taking something so he could keep dancing. He was extremely tender, and his legs felt like udon noodles.
At the thought of food, his belly gave off a rumble, and he giggled. Then he tried very hard to think what he last ate, and more importantly when it was, and his belly grumbled again, and he giggled some more. One of his inner voices told him that he should not only eat, but sit down and figure out exactly what day it was. But this voice sounded remarkably like his anal-retentive brother, so he giggled again and whooped, "Shut up, big brother, shut up!" At least, it sounded something like that. Mokuba decided that this statement had a nice rhythm, so he repeated it a few times in a sing-song voice and skipped along the footpath.
Shut up, big brother, shut up!
Shut -up-, big brother, shut up!
Back to your office and write a report
And shut -up-, big brother, -shut up-!
After a little while, Mokuba's noodle-legs sat him down in the gutter. He looked at his watch, which told him that he'd been skipping along to his Seto-song for almost half an hour. -That can't be right-, he thought, but then reasoned that because the watch was his brother incarnate it was probably pissed off and telling the wrong time.
"Don't be stupid," he told it.
Then he looked around and realised he was completely lost.
Mokuba's eyes narrowed at the watch, as if to accuse it of leading him astray. "That's not very nice," he said, but the watch just lay against his wrist looking beautiful and sleek and cool and so much like Seto that Mokuba put his arm behind his back. He didn't really want his brother to see him like this.
He also found the idea of waking up in the gutter (after possibly being divested of his cash and personal belongings) somewhat distasteful, so he forced himself to stand and walk to the end of the street. -Maybe I'll know the next corner-, he told himself, and he kept telling himself that for twenty minutes, until he stumbled onto a major road and saw (-Of course-) the beautiful, intimidating outline of the KaibaCorp offices in the distance, silhouetted against the city-stained sky. Watching the traffic, he thought very hard about the way he had walked and skipped and walked again. He turned around in a circle, glared at KaibaCorp, and angrily decided that he had travelled pretty much entirely in the opposite direction to Yugi's apartment.
"Fuck, fuck, -fuck-." He assaulted the pavement with his shoe, and stood grumpily beside the road, waiting for a taxi. The Seto-watch perversely counted out the time more slowly than ever, the second hand pausing dramatically between ticks. Although it was only a few minutes until a cab pulled up, it felt to Mokuba like half of forever.
It felt like a long time.
