Not Just a Secret Anymore
Chapter 7: The Decision
Kaiba and his best lawyer walks into the courtroom and they go to their respectable
table.
Mokuba sits next to his brother, as worried about what's going to happen to him as his older
brother is.
"Nii-sama? Am I going to have to leave you?" he asks.
"There's a chance that you may. I'm only 17 and you have to be 21 for legal custody over
children, family members, etc."
Kaiba looks around the courtroom to see Jou and Yugi sitting next to each other.
'How'd Yugi get out of class?'
"All rise for the Honorable Judge Mito." the bailiff says.
Everyone stands as the judge comes in. She sits down.
"You may be seated."
Everyone sits down.
"Thank you bailiff. We're here today for the custody hearing of Kaiba Seto over his
brother, Kaiba Mokuba. Kaiba-sama, it says here that if you violate any term on this
contract, then there is a chance that Mokuba will be taken away from you."
Kaiba nods.
"You violated Term 1, which says that you are to not miss more than 3 days of classes
a week, and you have missed 13 to date. What's the matter?"
"I have been suspended from school your Honor." replies Kaiba.
"Why were you suspended?"
"Because of the video that someone has been selling around school about me and another
male."
"Who is the male?"
"A lover of mine."
"Why do you think you should keep Mokuba?"
"I'm his older brother. He's my only true family."
"What do you mean by 'true family'?"
"After our parents died, our other relatives used up our heir money and put us in an
orphanage. At the time we were ages 12 and 5, Kaiba Gozaburo adopted us. I took over
his company and made it into what you see before you today along with the help of
Mokuba."
The judge sighs. She asks more questions and Kaiba honestly answers them. Then she
asks Mokuba questions and he answers them to the best of his ability and honesty.
"We will take a 5 minute recess. I will return with my decision." the judge says
standing and leaving the courtroom.
Kaiba turns towards Mokuba and holds him tightly.
"Nii-sama?" Mokuba says sadly. "I don't want to leave."
"Neither do I." Kaiba says as tears fill his eyes. "I love you Mokuba. No matter what,
I'll always love you."
"Nii-sama..."
Jou and Yugi look at the two brothers sadly.
"Do you think that Mokuba's going to be taken away?" asks Yugi.
"It would shatter Kaiba's life. But it's the law and he agreed to the terms, and he broke
them."
"Settle down please! The Honorable Judge Mito returns." the baliff says as everyone
scrambles around to get quiet.
She walks back to her chair and sits down.
"You may be seated."
Everyone sits down.
"Thank you bailiff. Kaiba-sama, I've carefully thought of you and your brother's
responses to my questions, but you still broke your legal agreement. I regret to inform
you that Mokuba has to be moved to another home, immediately. Court dismissed." Judge
Mito says banging her gavel.
"All rise."
A loud gasp is heard throughout the courtroom. Kaiba starts shaking furiously. Mokuba
hugs him tightly.
"Nii-sama?" Mokuba says crying. "I don't want to go anywhere else! I want to stay with
you!!"
Kaiba holds his little brother tighter than he ever had held him before.
"Mokie...I love you. No matter what I love you! Even if we're 1 mile or a hundred miles
away, I'll always love you. I'll come visit you everyday and be sure that when I turn 21,
I will be with you again!" Kaiba says, as he doesn't even bother to fight the tears.
Someone taps Kaiba on his shoulder. He turns around to see an officer.
"I need you to go and pack immediately. Your new family has already been decided." he
says to them.
"Already?! It hasn't even been 5 minutes!" yells Kaiba.
"I'm sorry sir, but I can only do my job. Here are the papers on his new family."
Kaiba snatches the papers from the officer.
"Pegasus and Cecilia Crawford...." reads Kaiba. "San Francisco, California, USA."
"USA?!" exclaims Mokuba.
Jou and Yugi walk near the Kaiba brothers.
"Kaiba...I'm sorry..." says Yugi.
"He's going to America...to the highest bidder..." blurts Kaiba as he suddenly runs out
the courtroom.
Yugi, Mokuba, and Jou follow him into the bathroom where Kaiba is very sick. Jou goes
into the stall with Kaiba and pats him on the back.
"Let it out..." Jou says, trying to comfort him.
Kaiba finishes then flushes. He lets the seat down and sits on it.
"I'm...sorry. I feel kind of dizzy right now." Kaiba blurts as he leans against Jou.
"You've worried yourself sick." Jou says rubbing Kaiba's back.
"Mokuba is really the only blood-line family I have. He's all I got and I'm all he's got.
Just the thought of him being away...away as in adoption...for any amount of time just
sickens me. I don't know what I'm going to do." Kaiba says crying into Jou's torso.
Yugi and Mokuba look at Kaiba and Jou innocently.
"Are you ok Nii-sama?" asks Mokuba.
"Yea...I am." replies Kaiba.
He stands up and wobbles a bit. Jou helps him straighten up. They walk to the sink
and Kaiba washes his hands and face and gargles with a bit of water.
"Are you ok to walk alone?" asks Jou.
"Yea. I'm fine now. Thanks." Kaiba says grabbing on to Mokuba's hand.
The four leave through a private exit and get into Jou's car. They go to Kaiba Manor.
When they reach the street Kaiba's home was on, there's a swarm of reporters in front
of his home.
"Uhh...Seto...we can't go this way." Jou says as he looks down the street.
"Make a left here." Kaiba says. "Now right. Stop here."
They stop in front of a parking garage.
"Umm...Seto...what's the deal?" asks Jou.
"Just watch and see." replies Mokuba.
Kaiba takes a remote from his inner pocket and presses the button.
"Password please. Password please." the computer says.
"Aishiteru'yo, Katsuya Jounouchi." says Kaiba.
The road suddenly begins to rise up, revealing a tunnel.
"Drive on."
Jou speeds into the tunnel and it immediately closes behind them. Jou drives down a
lengthy tunnel and into the garage of Kaiba Manor. They get out and go into the house.
"That was awesome Kaiba-kun!" says Yugi.
"I had that installed just for cases like this." Kaiba replies dryly.
Yugi and Kaiba sit on the sofa while Mokuba and Kaiba go upstairs.
