Chapter 7: Ransom of the Heart

"Come on, Ky!" Ami shouted. "We're playing kickball after school!" I sat drawing a picture and glanced up. Three weeks have passed since we escaped to this land and already I learned the language well along with a few other things. Papa and Father put me in school so I could learn and become well educated as they worked on their new jobs. I smiled and put my art supplies up inside a pouch I carried with me. "Coming!" I shouted back and ran to my new circle of friends and we began the game laughing and having fun.

That was when a horse came by and stopped to watch us. The rider wore a black hooded cloak covering his entire face.

The game stopped short as we looked at the man. "I've come in search of a girl named Kyra," the man said. "Her parents wish for me to take her home." "I'm Kyra," I said seriously. My friends said goodbye as I ran to the stranger and he lifted me on his horse and rode off. But then I noticed he was going the wrong way home. "Home isn't this way," I protested. "Who said you were going home, daughter?" an evil voice said and I gasped. "Bakura!" I cried and tried to jump off when he held me tightly chuckling. "Try to escape and it'll be your life," he warned and I nodded as tears slid down my cheeks. I didn't know what else to do.

Meanwhile, Papa and Father were waiting for me to return when someone knocked on the door and a messenger came to deliver a note to them. Papa took it and opened it suddenly falling to the ground in shock. "Seth!" Father said running to him and took the note. "It's a ransom for Kyra," Papa whispered. "Bakura and Malik followed us here! And they kidnapped her!" Father frowned deeply. "They won't get a ransom, but a fight," he said sternly and looked at Papa. "Tonight, we're get our daughter back. I promise."

I was chained to the wall unable to move. I grunted in my bonds and sighed. It was like it was before...chained before being tortured. I hated this. It was like I was back in Egypt...being trained to be Bakura's heir. I shook my head of the memories and sighed lowering my head. Ra, my wrists and ankles hurt! My bonds were tight on me. I heard a door open and Bakura stood there with Malik smiling. "Remember me, young lady?" he asked. "You were working with him all this time," I said frowning. "Traitor!" I tried to lunge for him, but I was jerked back by the chains. "Silly girl," Bakura said holding a familiar whip in his hand. "You thought you could escape me that much, didn't you?" I growled angrily. "Why don't you stick that whip where the sun don't shine, you dirty thief?" I demanded. That wasn't such a good idea. He slapped me hard in the jaw nearly breaking my neck. "You will learn to respect me," he snarled. "I took you in all these years! I kept food in your mouth and clothes on your back! I never once let you out of my sights!" I glared at him despite how bruised my cheek was. "You beat me, tortured me, humilated me!" I shouted back fueled by my anger and hatred for him. "If you trloveloved me as yours, why did you do that to me?!"

"Because I had no other choice."

He turned his back a little and I struggled to free myself. "Oh, you had a choice," I said. "You chose the wrong one! In fact, I'm not yours anymore! I have the marking of my family! It's not yours! I will never be your heir! I never wanted to be! To be a dirty thief and to wallow in your filth...it sickens me!" He turned around and frowned. "You're lying to me," he said sternly. I chuckled. "Look on my right arm if you don't believe me," I said. He pushed up my sleeve and saw the marking. Then he glared at me. "Worthless bitch!" he shouted and began using the whip harder usu usual.

My clothes tore at the seams...my blood soaking my skin...open wounds continuously hit and made deeper.

I coughed hard from the pain. Blood was in my mouth as well and I bowed my head closing my eyes. He stopped and caught his breath. "I'll be back fore, re, Kyra," he promised. "I swear you'll die before you go back!" He left the room without another word. My stomach lurched of its contents and I vomited on the floor. It was more blood than anything else. I closed my eyes and felt my tears mix with the blood on my face.

I wished to die. If it was to relieve me of this pain, I will. But it was then something strange happened to me.

My entire body glowed. My wounds healed instantly and I felt stronger. What was happening to me? Wait...it couldn't be possible, could it?

Could I be...immortal?

I shook the question from my head. It was my mind playing tricks on me. Immortality was something earned, not gained. It was in the Scriptures. No one could be immortal unlessed they earned that right. If that was the case, what did I do? I was unworthy of such a privlidge. I sighed and studied the ground before me. I was in an ancient temple. The carvings...resembled those in the Shadow Games. Such knowledge was here?! I frowned as one glowed brightly. It was a dragon...a black one with red eyes. "The Red Eyes BlDragDragon," I whispered. The guardian of the temple had come to my rescue. He snorted and bit through my bonds. I dropped to the ground and looked up at the magnificant creature. In turn, he sniffed me and snorted nodding as he licked my face. This was too weird. What happened here? First I was near death and now...

Later that night, Papa and Father met with Bakura and Malik. "Where is she?" Papa demanded. Bakura chuckled. "She's gone," he said. "She died." "I don't believe you," Father said removing his sword. "Give her back!" Bakura removed his sword as did Malik and the fight began. Father was a skilled fighter and stabbed Malik through the heart. Bakura stared in shock as he held him close to him. "I tried, love," Malik gasped as blood poured through the wound into Bakura's hand. "I will avenge your death," Bakura whispered kissing his forehead gently as Malik died in his arms. "You bastard!" Bakura shouted lunging at Papa and stabbing him in the chest. "PAPA!" I screamed running to him and cradling him in my arms. I could tell the wound was fatal. I looked up as tears streamed down my cheeks and buried my face in his chest sobbing as my tears began glowing and Papa's body began to heal. I glared at Bakura and looked at Red Eyes. "Attack him!" I screamed. "MOLTEN FIREBALL ATTACK!" The dragon obeyed me and Bakura cackled as he perished in the flames his soul going inside the Millennium Ring around his neck. Father lifted it in his hands and frowned throwing it into the river.

I looked at Papa and sighed. "You...reawakened the Shadow Games," he whispered in shock. The pain from his wounds weakening his body. He was healed and alive, but still hurting. Father ran to him knelknelt down cradling him in his arms. "Seth, it's ok," he whispered and looked at me. I sighed and backed up slightly. "Kyra," he whispered. "Please...stay with us." I looked at him and nodded. Red Eyes disappeared without a trace. Father lifted Papa in his arms and we walked home without a word.

Weeks passed since the incident.

I sat in my rthinthinking. "How did this happen?" I whispered. "Who am I?" Father and Papa walked in the room and sat down on the bed. I sat in Papa's lap and he cradled me in his arms. "You were special," he whispered in my ear. "I sensed that about you when I first saw you. Now I know why. You were chosen...you were chosen for a gift the Gods blessed you with." I studied him and looked at Father. He touched my cheek wiping the remainder of my tears. "We must train you now," he said. "It's your destiny to help bring the Shadow Games back to where they belong." I nodded slowly and sighed.

It was the Gods that bestowed this gift on me.

I must do as they wished.

Years passed and my fathers grew older. My powers had weakened as the years went by. I soon returned to my mortal state and watched my parents die before my eyes unable to save them. I was growing older in years as well. Soon, I would die passing to the Afterlife. Before that happened, I wrote something to add to the Scriptures.

My reincarnation would complete the task of what I tried...but would not lose her immortalers ers like I did. The reason being she would know what she was doing. I sighed and finished the text before handing it to the High Priests and bowed making my exit. I lay in my home thinking of the future. I closed my eyes and soon died.

But I was not to be forgotten.

5,000 years later...I would be reborn.

And the world would be at a greater danger than anyone could imagine.
