It was the third day of the annual Domino High ski trip. Yugi and Yami had spent most of their time together; either skiing or drinking hot chocolate in their room and sitting on the balcony…which Yami still had to hold Yugi on so the little one wouldn’t get scared. Yugi had forgotten all about the kissing incident and had right back to his normal, intimate, affectionate self….back to hugging, teasing, and snuggling the taller tri-haired teen. He didn’t intentionally do this…it was just that the hole in his chest seemed filled whenever he was around the other…so he tried to be as close to the red eyed youth as he could. Though sometimes he wondered if how he acted bothered Yami…the taller seemed more uncomfortable around him now…he would only half-heartedly return embraces.

Yugi was beginning to think Yami didn’t like him anymore…that maybe he had done something wrong and that now the taller was regretting choosing him for a ski partner.

~~~`
Yugi took his place between Malik and Ryou Ishtar on the makeshift stage in the lodge’s lobby. The choir was practicing yet again for the state championships that were to be held the next day. The short teen fidgeted slightly, looking down at his music.
“You alright, Yugi?” Ryou questioned.
The small one blinked, looking up at the white haired twin, “I’m a little nervous for tomorrow,” he admitted.
Ryou smiled kindly, “It’s understandable. I have a few butterflies in my stomach as well.”
Malik grinned, “I can’t wait to see the new costumes! I heard that’s Mrs. Mazaki had them all specially ordered because Anzu is singing that one whole song solo.”
“No way!” Yugi gasped. “She paid for costumes for al of us?”
The twins nodded enthusiastically. Suddenly, the chorus teacher approached, carrying three big boxes in her hands. Mrs. Mazaki strutted in behind her, carrying only a clipboard. She was a snotty woman…very conceited and rich. Sure, she was pretty with her long chestnut colored hair…but her navy eyes showed no emotion and she spent money only on herself. She tried to convince everyone that the Mazakis were superior and that everyone was too good for her precious daughter…especially someone like Yugi.
“Alright girls and boys!
The students settled down some, staring attentively at their teacher. Shiro-sensei nodded at them, telling them to sit down. “Now I know you are ready the performance…you have all practiced and worked equally hard…but you still have not practiced in front of a real audience…me and the volunteer work moms don’t really count. So, some students have generously decided to give up their afternoon on the slopes to listen to us sing for a while. Be sure to thank them later on.”
Yugi smiled, glad they were going to get a chance to practice in front of more people. He gasped as he noticed Yami walk into the lobby, his snow covered boots evidence that he just came from outside. Yami had never actually heard Yugi seen before. He had tried to come to the Choir’s practices but either Ms. Shiro would shoo him away or Marik and Bakura would drag him onto the mountain for some snowboarding.
The red eyed teen grinned up at Yugi, winking and giving him a thumbs up sign before seating himself in front of the makeshift stage. Yugi blushed, averting his gaze to the floor. Malik noticed this and smirked, “you like Yami?”
The teen’s eyes widened, “what do you mean?” He giggled, “of course I like him; he is my best friend in the world.”
“I think what my brother meant was do you _like_ Yami…you know, in a way like I love Bakura…as a boyfriend?” Ryou offered. Next to him, Malik nodded , grinning toothily.
Yugi blushed, covering his face with his hands, “l-like him…like a b-boyfriend?!” He shook his head, “no…no I’m not like that!” Through the gap in his fingers, he peeked an eye open and noticed Yami gazing up at the group, pointedly at him. He blushed again and closed his eyes, “no…I like Anzu.”
“Anzu?!” Malik whispered harshly. “You’re crazy to like that whore!”
Yugi glared up at the sandy haired teen, “she is not a whore! It isn’t her fault she is beautiful…she is really sweet…”
“Yeah, right,” Malik snorted.
The white haired teen looked at them uneasily, “um…we cant talk about this later. I think Shiro-sensei is going to bite our heads off if we don’t shut up!”
“Right,” the other two agreed.
Once they had quieted down, the teacher gratefully smiled at them, “thank you. Now as I was saying, you are going to perform in front of a small audience today…only about fifteen people in total, so be prepared…and if we get constructive criticism, accept nd wnd work harder.”
A few more students came in, including Bakura and Marik. The twins were glad to see their boyfriends had come to listen to them, especially since they both knew how much the teen trouble-makers thought the choir was for nerds. The Egyptian boys waved up at the two on the stage, giving thumbs up just like Yami had before going to sit with the other Egyptian teen. (Specter: I’m not having Malik be Egyptian…he’s a British boy, like Ryou ^___^ Just more tan and without an accent!)
“Please get ready to perform your first song. Take your positions, we’re doing Mele Kalikimaka in two minutes.”
The choir scrambled to get into their places. Anzu took the front of the stage, standing in front of the center mike and smiling radiantly. The band started to play music lightly in the background as an intro and the main song started with the brunette girl singing lead.
“Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say,
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day.”
“Christmas day…” the rest of the chorus echoed softly behind her.
Anzu grinned, directing her gaze at Yami as she swayed her hips lightly to the music, “That’s the island greeting that we send to youm thm the land where palm trees sway.”
“--Palm trees sway,” the rest repeated again.
Ryou stepped forward, also swaying to the music, “here we know that Christmas will be green and bright. The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night.”
The choir all sang the last part of the verse as the white haired boy took a step backward to his original place. “Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way, to say Merry Christmas to you!”
Bakura clapped his hands, whistling loudly and making Ryou blushed slightly.
“Mele Kalikimaka is a thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day… o~o~o~h. That’s the island greeting that we send to you from the land where palm trees swa~a~ay. Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright. The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night,” Anzu sang loudly, her soprano voice ringing through the lobby.
The rest of the group sang the rest of the song together, “Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way, to say Merry Christmas…”
“--A very, very Merry Christmas,” Ryou cut in.
“To say Merry Christmas to You~u~u! YEAH!”
The small audience clapped politely. Shiro-Sensei looked proudly at her group, “good, good. Now lets try Away in a Manger.”
Yugi took a step forward. He and Anzu did a duet in this song so he had to share the front mike with the brunette girl.
Soft music played the intro and Yugi cleared his throat, “Away in a manger, no crib for a bed. The little lord Jesus lay down his sweet head.”
“The stars in the sky looked down where he lay. The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay,” Anzu sang the last verse.
Yugi hummed slightly to the tune, closing his eyes and imagining himself elsewhere; allowing the music to sweep him off his feet and into a different world where none of his problems existed. This is why he was in the Chorus…this is why he loved music…it allowed him to throw away his concerns and be a free man for a few short moments while he sang or listened to a song. “The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes. But Little Lord Jesus no crying he makes…”
The girl once again ended the verse, “I love thee, Lord Jesus. Look down from the sky. And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.” She looked directly at Yami as she sang, her eyes never leaving his face. She too was in her own thoughts…though they had nothing to do with the song or music…she imagined herself and Yami together in a warm embrace with the boy humming lightly in her ear while stroking her hair. But she noticed, as she looked closely, that the taller boy’s eyes were not focused on her as they appeared to be. Instead, they were tightly locked on the little one next to her. She growled slightly, knowing it was hopeless to try and earn Yami’s love…she knew fully that he felt something for Yugi and that the small boy was just to blinded by his innocence to realize his similar feelings. She still knew Yugi liked her, even though she made it very clear she had no feelings for him whatsoever…accept maybe sympathy.
The boy and girl teens sang the last verse together, their voices harmonizing perfectly, “Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care; And take us to heaven, to live with Thee there.”
“--To live with Thee there,” Yugi finished the song an octave higher that the brunette. He held onto the note as long as possible before the last bit of music played. He smiled and caught Yami’s gaze. The taller grinned, winking again and clapping enthusiastically. The shorter blushed and giggled, waving timidly at him, glad that he was openin a l a little more now.
Yugi sat next to Ryou in the white haired boy’s room. He sipped a cup of tea before casually staring at the taller, “what did you want to talk to me about, Ryou?” he asked.
The other teen sat down, putting his hand on Yugi’s arm, “Yugi…I wanted to help you realize your feelings for Yami.”
The tri-haired boy laughed, “I already told you; I like him only as I friend.”
“But Yugi I think you are wrong. I can see the special bond you two share. When you are together you seem so happy…and I think you are making the wrong decision by not acting upon the tug in your heart.”
Violet eyes widened, “the-the tug…how did you know about the tug?!”
Ryou smiled, sighing, “because I felt one too before Bakura and I started dating. I would never admit before now that I loved him. I had a crush on Seto Kaiba at the time and would never admit to having even the slightest bit of love feelings towards a trouble maker such as Bakura…but now I regret not telling him sooner. He had tried to kiss me once, during lunch under the large sakura tree in the courtyard…” he paused and chuckled, “I remember slapping him and telling him to go screw himself.”
“You-you told him that?!” Yugi sputtered out.
“Yep! And I don’t regret for once leaving a red print on his cheek…but I know I felt something during that kiss and after that moment I knew I loved him. But I wondered how I could ever face him after just telling him what I did…I though he might hate me forever…but really, I had nothing to fear for he was still in love from me. When I confessed my feelings, he told me he had liked me since second grade when I first transferred here with Malik and our older Sister, Isis, from England…and that is when I realized that I liked him ever since the day we met too.”
The smaller sighed, “I just don’t think it would work between us…I don’t think I like him like that.”
“Did he kiss you?”
“Yes.”
“Did you like how it felt? When he pulled away, did you miss the warmth of his lips…….enjoy the tingling sensation that action sent down your spine?”
Yugi’s eyes widened, “I-I thought I didn’t like it at first…but…when he did pull away, I was sad for it…his lips over mine felt so good, so natural…m-maybe I do like him like that…but what about Anzu?”
Ryou sipped his tea, “I think she was just a mask to hide your true feelings for Yami. Sure, you may of like her for the time…but Yami, I know, is who you really love…he is who your hear belongs to.”
Yugi stood up, smiling proudly, “you’re right! I can accept this now! I do love Yami and I’m going to tell him!”
“Good for you, Yugi!”
The shorter hugged the twin tightly, “thank you so much, Ryou! You really helped a lot!”
The other chuckled, “what are friends for?”
Yugi looked up, tears in his eyes, “we-we’re friends? You-you really want to be my-my friend?!”
“Yes…now go tell Yami how you really feel! He’s waiting for you!”
Yugi ran out of the room toward the elevators. //I can do this! I can tell Yami how I really feel…I just hope it isn’t too late…I hope he still loves me back!”
