Jounouchi for the sake of my story is a baritone - The Baritone is the most common type of male voice. Baritone range: The vocal range of the baritone lies between the bass and tenor ranges, overlapping both of them. The typical baritone range is from the second F below middle C (F2) to the F above middle C (F4), which are exactly two octaves. In the lower and upper extremes, a baritone's range can be extended at either end.

Intoxication

Chapter Six – Beyond the Sea
After the club closed for the evening, Draco and Arista went upstairs, as Jounouchi stayed downstairs a bit longer, cleaning off tables and picking up dishes in order to go ahead and prep for tomorrow. He had wondered what was in his box, as he hadn’t cleaned it out just yet. With the last of the dishes in the sink for the dishwasher tomorrow, he headed to his box and opened it with his key. What was inside shocked him as there was a folded note surrounding what appeared to be a packet of bills. There were several other pieces of paper but none of them was as intriguing as the one that seemed to have the infamous Kaiba Corp. logo on it. Taking it out, he tucked it in his pocket and finished closing up before he headed upstairs.
~*~*~*~
Seto headed wearily out of his office towards his bedroom as he rubbed his eyes tiredly while watching the BlackBerry in his hand. He had meetings, more meetings and more atop those. It was going to be a long day in the offices and he had even called in to Domino High School and taken the next few days off. The nights, he knew that he was going to be at Intoxication, listening to the honey voiced blond that thrilled his senses, invaded his dreams and made him want things that he once thought were beyond him. Placing the electronic organizer on the bed, Seto stripped out of his clothes that he had worn to the club in the first place and slipped into a pair of silk pajama pants before falling face first onto the bed. Where a pair of brown eyes met him in his dreams.
~*~*~*~
Jounouchi took a hot shower and then crawled into bed. He turned on the small bedroom lamp and opened the note from Seto Kaiba. Jounouchi, it started and Jounouchi blinked at the fact that Seto hadn’t insulted him in some way. You have a wonderful voice and I am truly honored to have heard it. I am sorry that I lied to you about the lunch that Mokuba had made, I am trying to turn over a new leaf and you are a part of why. In the past couple of months, I came to the realization that I did not want to be alone any longer and the one I truly longed to be with was you. I know we’ve had our differences in the past, but I am willing to lay them aside and start with a fresh slate, if you are. I will come by Intoxication in a few days, Seto. Putting the letter into his own private box that he kept upstairs along with his earnings, Jounouchi smiled a bit as he lay back on the bed but sleep didn’t come.
~*~*~*~
Atemu paced the bedroom as he watched his partner sleep quietly. Yuugi was curled up in a small ball on the bed, occasionally groping for Atemu who was not there. Pausing in his pacing the former Pharaoh stared out the window; I will not wait forever, Jou. No one harms the friends of my aibou, and what they hurt; I have a tendency to destroy. Atemu thought as the sennen eye began to glow on his forehead. He may be human to those who know him but he still retained most if not all of his shadow powers, and right now they were focused on a miserable excuse for a man who harmed those of his blood.
~*~*~*~
Draco tucked his wife into bed before he headed downstairs to the club, where he wandered over to the piano and sat down on the bench. “What am I supposed to do? I just don’t know what to do.” His fingers flew over the keys, as he played a familiar melody. As he played, someone padded down the stairs, and stood in the doorway listening. “With Jounouchi’s father threatening to take my club, the Health Inspector beating down the door with nasty citations. Damn it, I’m just at my wits end.” Draco finished, his fingers flying over the keys as he started to play something he knew by heart. “Smile…” he started.
“Though your heart is aching.” There was a slight pause, “Smile…”
“even though its breaking.” Draco responded in song as he didn’t turn from the keys and kept playing softly. “when there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by…”
Jounouchi walked from the doorway over to where Draco was sitting and leaned on the piano, “if you smile with your fear and sorrow. Smile, and maybe tomorrow, you’ll find that life is still worthwhile…if you just…”
Draco started to sing accompanying Jounouchi and the two of them filled the club with honeyed tones, “light up your face with sadness, hide every trace of gladness. Although a tear may be ever so near, that’s the time you must keep on trying. Smile…what’s the use in crying. You’ll find that life, is still worthwhile if you just…smile.”
“Though your heart is aching.” Draco continued.
Jounouchi picked up the next line, “smile, even though it’s breaking.”
“When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by.” They sang together, as Arista woke up and made her way to the top of the stairs where she could hear them both. “if you smile, through your fear and sorrow. Smile…and maybe tomorrow, you’ll find that life is still worthwhile…if you just smile.”
Draco played a lovely instrumental interlude as Jounouchi hummed along and then he picked up all by himself, “that’s the time you must keep on trying. Smile, what’s the use of crying. You’ll find that life is still worthwhile…if you just…smile.” Jounouchi sang softly as Draco stopped playing before he was singing and he ended up doing it acapella. “Now, tell me what’s bothering you, boss.”
“I saw your father, and he wasn’t happy.”
Jounouchi shrugged lightly, “He never is, he’s probably mad that he doesn’t have me to knock around or me to get him money to help pay for his gambling debts or the fact that he doesn’t have any money for liquor.”
“He’s the one who set the Health Inspector on us, and the inspector will close the club if you don’t go back to your father.”
“I’ll go.” Jounouchi said sadly.
“You can’t. It would break Arista’s heart, and mine.” Draco said as he rose from the piano. “We will get through this, Jounouchi, I promise you this.” Jounouchi nodded slowly. “Promise me, that you won’t go back to your father.”
“I . . .” Jounouchi started to speak, as Arista held her breath at the top of the stairs. “I can’t make that promise, to protect you and your business; I should go back to him.”
“He will kill you if he gets a chance, Jounouchi.”
I won’t give him that chance. Jounouchi thought to himself as he nodded again, “Okay, I won’t go back to him.” He said. Arista sighed and headed upstairs and back to bed hoping that neither one of them saw her. Draco and Jounouchi finished up cleaning the club and headed upstairs together and separated when Jounouchi headed into his room and closed the door behind him. Draco on the other hand slipped in the sheets with his wife and gathered her in his arms before drifting off to sleep.
~*~*~*~
Jounouchi stood there behind the closed door, staring at the room that had become his own in just a few days. So much had happened, that he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, but on the other hand he knew he had to protect those he had come to care about. With a sigh, Jounouchi began to pack a few belongings into his messenger bag and opened his private lock box to take some of the money out. Writing a quick note to Draco and Arista, Jounouchi left it on his pillow, opened the window to the fire escape and slipped out into the night.
~*~*~*~
When he reached his old apartment, Jounouchi opened the door and stared at his father who was seated on the couch, several old bottles scattered around him. “So, you came back.”
“Leave the Eberhardt’s alone.” Jounouchi said as he reached into his bag, “here, I brought you my earnings, so that you can pay some of the bills.”
“What did I tell you about the bills, mutt?” Takahiro snarled as he got up and back handed Jounouchi across the face, watching as the young man’s head snapped to the side with the impact but he didn’t move much otherwise. “Why aren’t you cringing properly, you dumb ass dog.” His fist made another swipe towards Jounouchi.
Catching the fist in his hand, amber eyes went cold and dark. “Because, I’m not your dog, I am your son and I expect to be treated that way from now on.” Jounouchi replied, his eyes narrowing. The breath that wafted from his father’s mouth stank of alcohol, and Jounouchi realized that nothing had changed since he left. “I’m going to sleep.” He said, before dropping his father’s fist and heading what used to be his bedroom.
“Who said you could go to sleep?” Takahiro inquired as he reached out and grabbed Jounouchi by his blond locks and threw him into the nearest wall.
~*~*~*~
Dawn had broken over Domino City, and Arista got up and knocked on Jounouchi’s door. When there was no answer, she hesitantly opened the door and blinked as the room was neat, the bed was made and there was a note on the pillow. Picking up the note, she read it, and nodded. “Draco, honey, you have to get up. Jou is already gone, and you have that meeting.”
Draco groaned as he didn’t want to get up yet, but the fact that she said Jounouchi was already gone caught his attention and he pulled himself off the bed after untangling the sheets from around his legs. “What did you say about Jounouchi?”
“He got up early and went to school. Don’t worry; he’ll be home later tonight. He has to work after all.” Arista responded as she kissed his cheek and went to get dressed. Draco dressed quickly and after munching on a piece of toast he told Arista where he was headed and then he was gone.
~*~*~*~
The bell for school rang and Yuugi noticed two things were missing in the classroom. One was Seto Kaiba, but it wasn’t unusual for him to miss classes with the fact that he had a multi million dollar company to run, the other was Jounouchi. He stared at his friend’s seat for a long moment, wondering where he was. Leaning over, he whispered, “have you seen Jounouchi this morning?” he asked of Anzu who shook her head. Jou, where are you… Yuugi thought to himself, as he reached through the link to his partner. //Atemu?//
//Aibou, what’s wrong, you seem agitated.//
//Jou didn’t show up for school today.//
//I will find him for you, Aibou. You try and listen to your teacher.// Atemu replied, as he sent a mental caress that was meant to be soothing. Yuugi broke the link and sighed, chewing on his lower lip as he turned his amethyst gaze back to the teacher who was droning on about something that he didn’t understand.
