Chapter 6
It was late in the afternoon and Seto was sitting at his desk at KaibaCorp looking at the chocker and rose. He had been reluctant to give them to Jou after what had happened the day before. The entire class was talking about it and Jou at one point during the day had disappeared again. Seto scowled ‘Otogi you are going to pay for this. I haven’t figured out how yet but you are going to pay for what you did to him.
Seto stood up and put the chocker and rose in his briefcase and looked up raising an eyebrow when he saw Yami walk in very upset. Wondering what could have brought the former Pharaoh to see him his stomach gave a lurch, feeling it had something to do with Jou. He was proved right when the first words out of Yami’s mouth were. “Where is Jou?” Saying nothing he listened to Yami carry on his entire being tensing at what Yami was saying. “It was bad enough that you humiliated him in front of the whole class but now he has disappeared and no one can find him.” Yami said.
Seto looked at him and stated in no uncertain terms. “I did not give him those things and I don’t know where he is at.” Seto was starting to get worried. If the geek squad didn’t know where he was then something must have happened to him.
Yami looked at him “As if I’m supposed to believe that. You are always calling him mutt and putting him down. Now where is he?” Yami asked again. Worry for his missing friend was making the Pharaoh miss certain clues that his former High Priest was giving off. He didn’t want to believe that Seto had something to do with yesterday and that gift, but he could think of no other person who could be responsible. It was upsetting Yami to no end. He liked and respected Seto and he missed his cousin very much. Having him this close and yet so far away was torture for him.
“Why don’t you ask Otogi about what happened yesterday I’m pretty sure he could enlighten you on the facts? Look a couple of days ago Jou decked him for calling him a dog and the whole school was laughing about it and when he tried to apologize the next day he turned it down. What better way to get even than to humiliate him with those items.” Seto said, for some reason wanting Yami to believe him. Despite everything they had gone through Seto did respect Yami and hoped he respected him in return. He still didn’t know if he believed everything that he had seen but he couldn’t deny there was something about Yami that felt like family. And that wasn’t a feeling he wanted to lose.
Yami thought about this for a moment and then shrugged it off “Otogi and Jou are friends why would he do that to him? You on the other hand are not his friend and call him mutt and other things all the time.” But at the same time something screamed at him that Seto was telling the truth. He had never known Seto to tell a lie, not even in their former lives. And while he might call him mutt and other things he had never ever done something as cruel as that. While Otogi had when they had first met him, like making Jou wear that dog suit.
Seto looked at him and snorted “Are you blind as well as dense Jou and Otogi only tolerate each other because of you, Yugi and Honda. Now if you would excuse me I’m late for an appointment.” His disappointment made his voice colder. He had hoped Yami would be the one to see past Otogi.
Thinking about everything that Seto had said he was sure that there was more going on than he could see. He had noticed Jou’s relationship had been tense around Otogi but had put it down to Otogi’s attitude. But maybe there was more to it. Praying that he was right and that Seto had nothing to do with this he decided to have a word with Yugi about it and he left Seto with a final warning. ”Kaiba I will be keeping an eye on you and you had better not hurt Jou or else.”
Kaiba stopped turned around and look at Yami “Or else what? You’ll send me to the shadow realm. Please I’ve heard it all before. Now would you please leave I’m late or do I have to call security?” He said not seeing the glint of belief in Yami’s eyes. Yami turned and left determined to get to the truth. He had a feeling that Seto knew something about this mysterious person leaving gifts, but decided not to interfere. Seto collapsed onto his chair ‘Puppy where are you at?’ He was starting to get worried.
Seto gathered his things and headed out and as he passed his secretary he stopped “Reschedule my meeting for tonight something has come up.” He told her and without another word headed out to find Jou.
Seto entered the park and looked around hoping to spot Jou but with no luck. He saw the geek squad along with Otogi arguing about something. He wanted to get closer without them seeing him but at that precise moment he spotted a blonde head off in the distance lying down under a Sakura tree just out of sight.
Otogi finally stormed off and started walking toward where he was standing so he quickly ducked behind the tree watching as Honda hot on his trail shouted. “Otogi wait up man.”
Seto watched as Otogi stopped and looked back, luckily for him they stood where he could hear the conversation.
Otogi stopped and looked at him “Why should I? Everyone thinks I gave Jou that stuff yesterday and I didn’t. Kaiba probably did. Jou even said so himself.”
Honda looked at him “We can’t even find him to ask him now can we. Look I’m sorry but it’s between you and Kaiba. For what its worth I think Kaiba gave it to him.” As Honda said this he almost felt like he was trying to convince himself but reasoned that Otogi had no reason to do something like that to Jou.
Otogi smirked to himself ‘At least I have one person believing me.’ Turning his head around he started to move off as if looking for Jou. “Look Jou’s not here lets look someplace else.” Otogi said not seeing the hint of doubt that Honda was showing.
As they turned to leave Kaiba was fuming ‘You’re going to pay for this one Otogi big time.’ Kaiba looked in the direction of his puppy and noticed everyone had left. So he walked quietly over and placed the box next to him, and as he started to turn and leave he noticed that Jou had been crying. When he saw this he became more determined than ever to punish Otogi once and for all for hurting what is his. He then noticed Jou starting to wake up and moved away quietly and hid behind a tree to watch him.
As Jou woke up he noticed a box sitting next to him and he smiled when he saw the Origami Rose attached to it along with a note.
Jou
I know what happen yesterday hurt you a lot.
I was not sure if I should give this to you because of it.
When I saw it I thought of you and how gorgeous you would look in it.
Maybe someday I could see you wearing it. Keep yourself safe.

Jou opened the package and what he saw at first angered him but then he reread the note and smiled. ‘He thinks I’m gorgeous and wants to meet me someday.’ He pulled out a masculine leather choker...inlaid with gold and set with diamonds and topaz stones. As he looked at it he looked around to see who could have left it. Seeing no one around he put the chocker on and realized the leather was soft and supple. He quickly took it off putting everything in the box smiling. He needed to see himself in a mirror to take a better look at the chocker. As he left he didn’t see a pair of ice cold blue eyes watching him.
Seto watched as Jou tried on the chocker and smiled. If Jou looked gorgeous before he was even more so with the chocker. As he watched tears came to his eyes and a delicate smile touched his lips. He was glad that Jou liked his gift. He started to think, now for Otogi. And having thought about it he knew exactly how he was going to get back at him. No one hurt what was his and got away with it. It would take some planning but in the end he would have no one to blame but himself. There was only one problem with the plan he was going to need Jou’s help and currently Jou didn’t even known he liked him. Seto called his limo and went home to plan what he was going to do next. A smirk appearing on his face at the thought of what the plan entailed.
As Jou walked into the apartment the first thing he noticed was his father sprawled out on the couch drunk as usual. “It’s ‘bout time you got home boy. Where have you been boy?”
Jou sighed “I was out with friends.” He hated to lie but there was no way he was going to tell his father the truth. He went to his room and hid the chocker knowing that if his father found it he would pawn it and use the money for alcohol. He went to the kitchen to fix dinner wondering what the night would bring.
Seto sat and stared at his computer thinking about Jou. ‘He has been hurt so much in the last few days.’ Seto wanted to strangle Otogi. Lately he had been harassing Jou endlessly ‘his so called friends doing nothing to stop it.’ But Seto knew he was being unfair for what he had gathered from his conversation with Yami the tachi knew nothing about it. That wasn’t even the half of it for Otogi hadn’t just stopped at Jou. ‘He has been harassing me too. Sending me all sorts of things, I’ve either sent them back or thrown them away.’ He thought. He turned when he heard a knock at the door “Come in.” He said.
A very worried and subdued Mokuba came in and looked at his brother “Seto dinner’s ready, are you coming to eat?” He asked in a worried tone. He was getting more and more concerned with these dreams that his brother was having but at the moment there was nothing he could do. He had thought about going to see Yugi but as they weren’t actually harming him he decided not to. But if they didn’t stop soon he would go to them. He knew they would help him in any way they could.
Seto looked at his brother and sighed “I’ll be right down.”
Mokuba smiled “Ok big brother.” He turned to leave but stopped and turned around and went back over to where his brother was still sitting and gave him a hug. “I love you big brother.” He said with a smile and left the room. Seto smiling at his brothers hug and words got up to go and eat suddenly realizing how hungry he was.
The dreamscape can be a cruel or pleasant place. For Seto Kaiba at the present moment it was neither. He was back in the park watching his puppy and smiling at how happy he seemed. That was until he saw a dark shadow descend on Jou and start to laugh. “I guess what everyone says is true you are a dog.”
Jou turned and looked at the figure and tears welded up in his eyes. “I’M NOT A DOG.” Jou yelled at the figure. Seto tried to move over to the figure to try and stop it but found he couldn’t move.
The figure started to laugh “Yes you are. Why else would you be wearing a chocker that says otherwise?”
Jou looked down at it and touched it. “It was a gift.” He said quietly tears brimming in his eyes.
Seto was getting frustrated and he tried to call out to Jou but no sound came out. He wanted to help him but the figure in the shadows just laughed “Right who would give you a gift. Oh I forgot the one who calls you a mutt. Isn’t that right?” Jou turned and ran.
Seto’s anger seemed to give him the strength somehow to break free from what was holding him still. Finally able to move and say something he ran after him. As he did he finally recognized who the shadow was; Otogi. Angry he caught Jou and pulled him into an embrace “Don’t listen to him, I do care and I gave that to you because you deserve the best.” Pulling him closer he captured Jou lips and caressed them putting all his emotions and compassion into that one kiss. He pulled away and looked into Jou’s eyes “I love you Jou don’t forget it.”
Kaiba woke up calling out to Jou. When he realized it was another damn dream he fell back with a groan putting his hands over his face. That was when he heard the door of his bedroom open and he looked into a pair of grey-blue eyes full of worry and concern. “Seto are you alright? I heard you screaming.”
Seto looks at his brother and sighed “Yes Mokuba I’m fine. Just another dream is all. So go on back to bed.”
Mokuba turned to leave but ran over and gave his brother a hug, so desperately wanting to help. Returning the hug he gave a smile to his brother who reassured went back to his bed. As Mokuba left Seto sighed and turned back over upset that Otogi was in this particular dream causing problems. He had to do something about him but what. The one plan he had wouldn’t work until him and Jou were together but there was only one problem with that. What if Jou didn’t want him and turned him down, that thought scared him more than the dreams. He rolled over hoping to get some sleep without the dreams. He had a feeling it was going to be a long day.
