Chapter 6

            Yami felt
it as soon as Akunadin brought him into the Palace, with an oily smile and a
glittering eye and proclaimed that he had brought the great Pharaoh a gift.
This young one was soft, all pale violet and pale skin. How pretty!

            Mahaado did
not think so. He could see the currents moving, and he sighed. Yami was going
to get burned, badly too, but he had to learn sometime, and afterwards, well,
he’d patch him up and cuddle him.

            He closed
his eyes and settled down to sleep.

            Yami didn’t
bother to call him.

            Yuugi was
adorable. He blushed at all the right times and he was soft and snuggly. That
was probably why it hurt so much when Yuugi smiled at him and slammed the
dagger up to its hilt in his gut.

            He screamed
for his Mother as he waited for death.

            Mahaado
gave Yuugi a smile even sweeter than his as he drove his staff through the
boy’s chest. Excellent…

            Then, he
turned to his darling Yami and placed his hands on his body, letting Yami take
his life to heal his own. He had plenty of life to spare, after all.

            He yanked
out the dagger, and watched as the last of the bloody flesh closed up.

            Yami gave a
gasp of air as he opened his eyes. “M-Mother…”

            “That was
foolish of you.” Mahaado chided. “Did you not sense it?”

            Yami
flushed in shame. Mother almost never scolded him, but when she did, it hurt.
He looked down.

            “And you
sent me away, too. Did you really want me to leave, Yami? I will go and leave
you alone if that is what you really want.”

            “No!” Yami
pushed himself up, ignoring the pain in his body. “No!”

            Mahaado
smiled as he began chanting in hieratic. Yami’s eyes widened and he pounced,
pinning Mahaado to the ground underneath him and covering his lips in a
desperate kiss.

            No! He
didn’t want Mother to leave! If Mother left he would be alone and then the bad
people would come and hurt him!

            He didn’t
want Mother to leave! Ever!

            Mahaado
managed to push Yami off after a few moments passed. He crossed his arms as he
sat up. Yami looked almost, frightened. That would not do.

            “Are you
afraid of me, Yami?”

            Yami shook
his head, but continued to cling to Mahaado like a limpet. The Magician sighed
inwardly.

            “Do you
truly not wish me to leave, Yami?”

            “Yes.” Was
he crying? Mahaado looked closer and saw that yes, tears were beginning to
glitter in crimson eyes. Fascinating.

            “I must
have the truth, Yami.”

            “I never
want you to leave me, Mother. Never!”

            “I will
never leave you, Yami. But will you leave me?”

            Yami paled
at the accusation as he flushed. “I…”

            “I am bound
to you for eternity, Yami, but will you do the same? Or will you chase the wind
where your desires ride?”

            “Mother, I
didn’t mean!”

            “You may
not have meant to sleep with that bed-slave, but you did.” Mahaado said curtly.

            Yami
frowned. “Mother….”

            “I have
nothing more to say.”

            Mahaado
knew when he had the advantage, and he took it. He faded back into mist as Yami
reached for him. The anguished expression on his Prince – now Pharaoh’s face
tore at his heart, but it had to be done.

            “MOTHER!”

            Mahaado
carefully closed his eyes. It would only be separation for two days, three at
the longest, but it was time to test his Prince – Pharaoh’s loyalty.

            I am loyal
to you, but you are not loyal to me…

            He did not
like that double standard.

            Yami was
catatonic for the rest of the day. No one could coax him to do anything, but
when Akunadin decided that this was as good a time as any to finish the brat
off once and for all so Seto could rule Egypt, he hit a force field.

            Mirror
Force, Yami recognized vaguely. Mother would have cast it to protect him if she
were here.

            Mother…

            He cried.

            He couldn’t
hear her voice or feel her presence. He had never felt so alone in all his
life.

            Mother,
come back to me…

            The servant
girls tried to help, but he didn’t let them near him. He bathed himself and
created peaches and wished Mother was here.

            Mother had
always taken care of him…

            Now,
without Mother, he felt lonely and unloved.

            He wanted
Mother back…

            I want
Mewet back…

            Mahaado
shimmered into being at sunset on the third day. Yami threw his arms around
her, and let him self fall apart.

            He really
was nothing without Mother…

            “Do you
understand now, that we cannot be apart?” Mahaado asked, as he ran his fingers
through blonde spikes.

            Yami
nodded. “Yes, Mother. I will never leave you again.” His fingers gripped into
Mahaado’s shoulders convulsively, drawing blood.

            Mahaado
ignored the pain as he bent down and captured Yami’s lips in a kiss. Yami
mewed, happy that things were finally where they belonged.

            He would
never leave Mother again. Never.

            “Do you
love me?”

            “Of course
I do.” Yami said, willing to say anything as long as he was here and safe and
Mother protected him. He never ever wanted her to leave him again. He would do
anything to keep her here. It was no longer a childish oath… it was truth.

            “I love you
too, my precious Yami.” Mahaado whispered, and their lips met again. Yami clung
to his Mother greedily; almost afraid she would vanish if he took his eyes off
her for a moment.

            Somewhere
in the distance, bells rang.

Mahaado fights dirty. ^^ But he does have a point. I don’t
like double standards either! I’m sorry, but even if Yami is Pharaoh, I think
he should be faithful…
