Haga catalogued the time of death of the bug and wrote down a possible time of death for the body. He sighed and took off his glasses, rubbing his face. Why did he get all the grub work?

He put his glasses back on and thought about Rikuo. The boy’s number was burning a hole through his wallet and straight through his pants. When he thought about calling Rikuo…

Damn, my heart is pounding. I don’t like him…do I? I mean come on…he was Kero-chan… He thought of Rikuo’s broad shoulders and midnight hair and felt his face grow hot. Shit, I think he’s cute! He banged his head on his keyboard, grinning like and idiot.

And he called me “his number one”… He laughed to himself and began working with a better attitude.

Ryuzaki sat out on his tiny balcony, relieved to have found a dry spot on the tatami mats that were out here. He blew a billow of smoke into the dark sky, reflecting on the night. The air was pregnant with rain and smelled of it, making the boy close his eyes.

There I was…right there… he cursed softly. This is all your fault Haga…fuckin’ went and got handsome on me…you were cute before…but now you’re gorgeous…Shit, I should try to tell him that!...Nah, he’d just laugh…

He held his cigarette between his fingers, thinking of the long list of whores he’d been with. None of them were male. Was this his twisted way of –

I am not saving myself for him! I can be with a guy anytime I like!...Can’t I?

“Haga!” he barked. “You ass hole!”

He laughed and headed back inside. Maybe he could try to do his homework or something.

Haga walked home from work with a bounce in his step, holding his cell phone and glancing at it again and again. He didn’t usually use the small, flip cover device with a mantis on the cover, but now he was itching to.

He hopped up the stairs to his apartment and went in, relieved to find that Ryuzaki hadn’t crashed on his couch. He locked the door and fled to his bed room, licking his lips as he pressed the numbers with his thumb, looking at Rikuo’s number on a paper in his other hand.

It rang. Once, twice, five times until it picked up.

“Saruichi speaking.”

“Um…Rikuo?”

“Yes, who is speaking?”

Haga rubbed the back of his head and gave a laugh. “Haga-kun.”

“Haga! I didn’t think you’d call tonight!”

“Well…didn’t you say to? Were you going to call me? Are you busy? I’m bothering you.”

“No, no…I’m all done with any work for tonight.”

A moment of silence.

“Do you –” they said together, laughing after wards.

“Go ahead.” Haga said, grinning.

“No you!”

Haga shook his head. “No, it’s fine.”

Rikuo took a breath. “Would you like…to go out for some late coffee?”

“Eh?” Haga blushed. “Like…now?”

“Sure! I get to have the car after school.”

“Oh…”

“I can be over there in ten minutes.”

“Oh…okay!”

“Alright. It’s a date then! Bye Haga!”

Haga was going to protest the last part, but couldn’t as Rikuo hung up. He smiled despite himself and went to the mirror to see if he if he looked okay.

Before he realized it, the buzzer sounded and he went to his door to press the down trigger that would let Rikuo upstairs. He waited by the door for the boy to come up and when he heard the knock, he opened the door, blushing pink.

Rikuo was blushing as well and thrust at lady bug plushie at Haga, stammering that he was late because he’d gotten it.

Haga gave a small laugh and took it graciously, welcoming the boy inside. Rikuo walked in nervously, looking and eventually settling near the couch.

“Ready to go?” he asked, gazing at Haga’s eyes, hair, body and repeating.

“Yes.”

That stopped his eyes and made him smile. “Alright. My car is down stairs…”

Haga followed him out, aware of Rikuo’s eyes on him and blushing madly. This was going to take getting used to, that was for sure.

Who says I’m going to get used to it? I haven’t agreed to anything!

Rikuo opened the car door for him and he got in, all smiles, pushing up his glasses nervously. “This is a nice car…” He said timidly.

“Yes. My father is a businessman. He takes the train and let’s my mother and me use the car he bought.”

“How…honorable.”

“Mm.”

They drove in silence until they reached the café and Rikuo opened his car door again. Haga stepped out and gave a small laugh as Rikuo guided him inside, his hand on the small of the mint haired boy’s back.

They took a seat out of the way and ordered a mocha and latte respectively, both watching their hands.

“Haga…do you…like me at all?”

“huh?” He looked up and into Rikuo’s pleading amber eyes. “Rikuo-kun?”

“I mean…you’re so quiet, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong…”

“You’re not doing anything wrong. I’m quiet. You know that.”

Rikuo shrugged. “I dunno, I thought you were just like that in school…that Ryuzaki showed up and I’ve never seen you that way.”

Haga laughed. “Ryuzaki, that ass! He’s still miffed I aced him and became Japan’s number one! Sure, Dinosaur’s are strong, but they’re dead! Bugs will be here forever!”

The dark haired boy smiled. “There you go again. You’re so animated now. I don’t know what to think! Perhaps you like Ryuzaki!”

Haga’s eyebrows knit together. “Fat chance. He’s a grade A loser.”

The coffee came and Haga blew on his Mocha before sipping it. Rikuo looked at Haga, smiling to himself.

“You really are handsome you know…”

The green haired boy looked up at Rikuo, his glasses slipping cutely. “Hm?”

“I said…you’re handsome.”

Haga blushed.

“And that’s just cute.”

“Rikuo…stop it…you’re –”

“Telling the truth.” He smiled when Haga shook his head. “I’m in love with you.”

That stopped Haga cold and he looked into Rikuo’s eyes. “Wh-what?”

“I can’t stop thinking about you. Ever since middle school really. And not in…a awful stalker way…but in a purer way…unless I’ve had a lonely night…” Rikuo turned crimson. “I mean, that, you –I like you. A lot.”

Haga shook his head gently and looked into his drink. “The Helix Aspersa* moves slowly…but still achieves its goal Rikuo…”

The boy blushed. “You’re right…I’m sorry.”

“It’s no problem…” the insector said quietly, feeling very content.

After that, they drank their coffee in relative silence, commenting here and there and stealing glances at each other, their cheeks very pink. When they were finished, Rikuo escorted Haga back to his car, opening the door for him.

They drove back to Haga’s apartment building and Rikuo came around to open the door. They stood on the stairs and Rikuo scratched his head, grinning.

“I’ll see you tomorrow then, Haga?”

The insector nodded, looking up just in time to catch Rikuo’s kiss. It was chaste at first, but it didn’t stay that way as Rikuo moaned and pushed into Haga’s mouth, pulling him close. Haga smiled into it, pulling back and pushing his glasses up.

“Well…Rikuo…”

“Yeah…” the boy took off his glasses and cleaned them on his shirt.

Haga kissed his cheek and left inside, Rikuo standing there stunned.
