Bruises in the mirror
When Yuugi got home his nervous hands struggled to
unlock the front door. He felt nervous about being
alone outside.
The only noise he heard was the rattling of the keys
being jammed in the key hole. Finaly inside he locked
four different locks to feel safe. He sighed and scurried
to his room. His pudgey little grandfather who was sitting
on the couch stopped him from going up the stairs.
"Your home late." The old mans voice was pleasent for
such a startling comment.
"Sorry." He felt guilty. "I had detention." He said with his
eyes fixed to the floor. The old man shocked.
"You...Detention....on the first day?" He sat forward. "For what?"
"These cool guys asked me too pull the fire alarm, I wanted them
to like me so I did it." The old man was impressed by his honesty,
yet a bit disturbed by his answere.
"Yuugi, you don't have to break the rules to be cool." He tried to set
a positive message but the teen thought it was dorky.
"Yes I do." Yuugi said under his breath and walked up the stairs.
"What was that?" The old man didn't hear him.
"I said I'm going to my room." Yuugi said.
The teen dropped his book bag near the top of the stairs and headed
toward his room but U-turned into the bathroom. He looked into the
tall mirror near the bathtub and sighed. He lifted his shirt to examine the
bruises he got when Ryou shoved him into the sink. Black and blue marks
were all over his body. New ones. Old ones. Scars. He brushed his hand
across his chest poking the flaws to find out if they still hurt. Negative thoughts
ran through his head. He felt weak, alone, and helpless.
"Who would ever want to love some as week as pathetic as me." He pulled his
shirt back over his head and sighed with a tear rolling down his cheek.
