Chapter 6: Keeping The Faith Within
Kali woke up in a small prison cell chained by a metal collar around her neck. She felt the pain from her injuries still affect her small body and sighed. "What if all of this is just a dream?" she asked herself. "I'm sure I'll wake up. I mean, Kyra...she was just a ghost. There's no such thing as ghosts." She lowered her head on her knees and shivered. "It's so cold in here," she whispered. "I wish Daddy and Papa were here..." A tear slid down her cheek and she began crying. Just then, the door opened and she glanced up to see two men standing there. "So, you decided to wake up," one said kneeling down and lifting her chin with one hand. "Such a pretty little thing," he said studying her carefully. "I bet your parents are proud to have a beautiful little girl like you." Kali jerked from his grip and growled. "Daddy will kill you," she snarled. "He'll send you to the Shadow Realm and you'll never see the world again!"
"Shadow Realm?" the man asked laughing when he slapped her hard in the face. "You shouldn't talk such nonsense here," he growled. She snarled suddenly. "I guess you never heard of Bakura, the King of Thieves, huh?" she demanded. "I'm his daughter, you baka!" He grabbed her by the collar snarling. "What did you call me?" he demanded. She grabbed the collar off her neck and managed to pull it off somehow before grabbing his hands and prying them off her neck coughing from almost choking to death. She stood up and looked at her hands to find them glowing. "My powers...they're awake!" she gasped. "I passed the final test!" She glanced up and smiled. "Time to show you what I can do," she said seriously. "You don't scare me, you little brat!" he shouted running after her with a dagger. Just then, a snarl came behind her as the Red Eyes Black Dragon appeared like it did to Kyra years ago. "Care for me to prove my point?" she asked. "I saw Uncle Joey play this card a lot! Molten Fireball Attack!" The dragon obeyed and the entire house was smothered in flames.
Red Eyes grabbed Kali by the shirt and burst out flying off in the air. Kali sat on his back and gasped. "Too high!" she shrieked. The dragon chuckled and lowered down a little toward the Nile River and she was able to touch the water giggling. "Awesome!" she laughed as the dragon flew toward Cairo and landed in the Square in front of a lot of people staring in shock. Kali slid down and sighed as the dragon disappeared. She began walking to the hotel and looked inside. "Hello?" she asked causing everyone to turn around in shock. "Kali!" Ryou shouted and ran to her holding her close in his arms as tears fell down his cheeks. "Papa..." she coughed. "C...can't breathe!" He released her and she shook her head coughing hard. "How...how did you get back?" he asked frowning. "Ask Kyra," she said looking at the spirit smiling. "You indeed passed your final test, Kali," Kyra said. "Now the ancient scriptures are fulfilled on your part." Kali nodded and hugged her. "You know, I must be so lucky you have a big sister like you," she said smiling. Kyra chuckled and lifted her in her arms. "Keep up what you started and perhaps we'll meet again," she said kissing her cheek. Then Kyra glanced at Bakura and put Kali down a moment as she walked to him. "Father...that little girl depends on you and Ryou," she said. She smiled and kissed his cheek gently. "I'm glad she's in good hands," she said seriously.
Joey and Kaiba smiled. "And she has all of you to help as well," Kyra said seriously and looked at the two. "Well, I didn't imagine you two would be back. Jou and Seth...the ones who adopted me in their reincarnated forms. I should've known you two would be together now like you were back then." Then she looked at Yami and Yugi. "My pharaoh," she said bowing and looked at Yugi smiling. "Keep him in line," she said. Yugi nodded. "It's hard, but I do it," he said. She looked at Marik and Malik. "You've changed too," she said and chuckled. "I guess you had 5,000 years to do so." Malik smiled. She looked at Tristan and Duke. "Don't think you two were ever around back in the day," she said. "But I'll keep an eye on you just the same." Kali walked to Kyra and smiled. Kyra knelt down and touched her cheek. "More awaits you, Kali," she said. "Keep the faith within. No matter how hard things get." Kali nodded and hugged her again before Kyra disappeared.
That night, Kali sat on the windowsill studying the necklace Kyra once wore and sighed. "Something wrong, baby?" Ryou asked sitting up slightly. "When we get back home, I'm scared everyone will be afraid of me," she said seriously. "I can summon Duel Monsters without a Duel Disk...I can do a lot more things you can't." She lowered her head and sighed heavily. He slid out of bed and walked to her. "Come here," he said sitting down in a chair. She walked to him and he lifted her in his lap. "Kyra told you no matter how hard things get, you must keep the faith within," he said seriously. "You just found out. That means you still have time to control your powers. Daddy's a spirit as well and he could help you as can Malik and Yami. But don't look down at yourself. No matter what, we'll always love you. Your uncles, Daddy, and me. I never gave up on you at all. Don't you give up on me." She nodded and snuggled in his chest.
Two weeks later, the vacation ended and the group traveled back to Domino City. Ryou decided since he was out of school, he should look for a job. He looked through the newspaper and sighed. "Ever think of college?" Marik asked from the living room. "I thought about it," Ryou said seriously. "Maybe that's where you need to start before looking for a job," Marik said. "Kali will be fine. Malik and I will babysit and you know the others will when we can't." Ryou sighed and nodded. "You have a point," he said seriously. "Speaking of Kali, where is she?" "Upstairs with Malik," Marik said. They walked upstairs to find the two crashed out on the bed asleep with Kali curled up on top of Malik's chest asleep. "I thought they were cleaning," Marik said looking at Ryou. "I guess they got tired out," Ryou chuckled. "Let them sleep."
The next morning, Ryou was grumbling about having to leave Kali with Kaiba that day since Bakura and Malik had to work at their job at the bar within the next two hours and Marik was going to help. Marik ate breakfast and frowned. "What got up your ass this morning, Ryou?" he asked. Kali glanced up suddenly. "Daddy," she said seriously. That caused all four men to stare at her in shock. "How would you know that?" Ryou asked blushing like crazy. "I had to go to the bathroom and you two were in the shower and I saw what was going on," she said while eating her cereal. "And how long were you in there?" Bakura asked nervously. "I had to go potty, Daddy," she said flatly. "I don't know." Malik and Marik looked at each other then. "Isn't she a little young to know about sex right now?" Malik asked. Ryou nodded. "I was going to tell her when she hit ten," he said and sighed. "She got a lot more than a talk," Bakura said shaking his head. "She got the whole bird's eye view!" "Next time, we're locking the door and she can use the other bathroom," Ryou pointed out. "Well, hell, Ryou, you were the horny one and couldn't wait!" Bakura protested.
Kali looked at them with a strange look. "From what I saw, it was enough for me not to want to know what was going on right now," she said seriously. They looked at her and nodded. "Go get your stuff and we'll head off to see Uncle Kaiba and Uncle Joey," Bakura sighed. She nodded and ran off. Malik and Marik giggled then. "You two got busted by a six-year-old!" Marik laughed hard. "Oh shut up and grow up!" Ryou and Bakura shouted together. That caused them to laugh even harder. Kali walked downstairs with her backpack. Bakura lifted her in his arms and shook his head. "Honestly, you guys are something else," he said. "Malik, I'll be back to pick you up." Ryou smiled and kissed Kali's cheek gently. "Bye, honey," he said. "Bye, Papa," she said. "What about me?" Bakura asked pouting. Ryou chuckled and kissed him as well. "Bye!" he said laughing.
Kaiba sat in his office and looked up to see Bakura and Kali standing there. "Joey's in the bathroom, so he'll be out soon," he said smiling. Bakura nodded and handed him the backpack. "Kali, come here," he said and she walked to him. He hugged her and kissed her cheek. "Be Daddy's good girl and you might get a surprise if Uncle Kaiba and Uncle Joey say you were," he said. She grinned and hugged him kissing his cheek. "Thank you, Daddy!" she said happily. "I promise I will!" He chuckled and kissed her cheek. "See you later," he said and left. Joey walked out of the bathroom and smiled. "Dere she is!" he said as she ran in his arms and he lifted her in them. "Airplane!" she shouted bouncing in his arms. Kaiba chuckled as he sat down to get to work. "Just don't break anything, pup," he said. "Wasn't plannin' on it," Joey said seriously. At lunch, Joey got some cheeseburgers and fries and the three sat down to eat. "Here," Kaiba said handing Kali a fry. "Don't eat so fast. You'll get sick." She nodded and began to slow down.
After lunch, Kaiba wiped the ketchup from Kali's mouth and sat her down at his desk so she could play a game on his computer. Joey was asleep on the couch and Kaiba chuckled. "Does he snore that loud when he sleeps all the time, Uncle Kaiba?" Kali asked. He nodded and sighed. "Yes he does," he said and they continued to play the game until she grew tired and was soon asleep in his arms. He held her close and carried her to where Joey was and laid her down with him.
Bakura returned to see the scene and smiled. "Tuckered out, huh?" he asked. Kaiba nodded. "She was a perfect angel," he said. Bakura smiled and nodded as he lifted her in his arms. "Thanks, guys," he said and they soon left to go home. Kali woke up in her bed and rubbed her eyes. Bakura was sitting on her bedside and smiled. "Hey, princess," he said kissing her forehead. "I talked it over with Papa and we decided to do something for you. You'll have to be responsible though even though Papa and I will probably need to help you. Close your eyes and no peeking, ok?" She nodded and did so. He lifted a small white kitten from a box and placed it on her chest. "You can look now," he said. She opened her eyes and grinned as the little kitten purred as she stroked it. "This is mine?" she asked. He nodded. "He's all yours," he said. She grinned and hugged him. "Thank you, Daddy!" she said happily. "Better thank Papa too," he chuckled as she ran off holding her new kitten and hugged Ryou. "Thank you, Papa!" she said. He chuckled. "You're welcome," he said and returned to dinner.
All Malik and Marik could do was grin.
