Chapter 5
Sara gently touched Yusei’s back, not realizing just how intense his pain was. He cried out at the feather-light touch, Sara’s hand pulling back immediately as she took a surprised half-step back. She approached the young man again a mere second later, worriedly wrapping her arms around his lower back as she helped him up, carefully avoiding the painful ridges.
Yusei’s breath came in short, pained gasps. Sara set him down gently on the couch in his workshop, helping him down onto his stomach to avoid further aggravation to his back. Yusei looked at her, frowning slightly at the worry he saw in her eyes.
“It will be okay, Sara,” he said hoarsely, his throat tight from the tears of pain he held back. Sara wrung her hands and remained silent. ‘My selfish wish had caused this. Why? Why did I make that wish?’ she thought desperately, tears flowing down her cheeks. Yusei groaned in pain and closed his eyes, panting as the ridges fully opened and the hidden wings slowly began to fully expose themselves.
Sara gasped as the pearly white wings emerged from Yusei’s back, her hands wringing in front of her. She wished she had the courage to call Yami to her side when suddenly she felt warm arms wrap around her from behind in a comforting fashion. She looked up, straight into the genie’s crimson eyes.
“The binding spell has broken. I thought you might be frightened for Yusei-sama, so I came,” Yami said gently, pulling her closer. Sara nodded and turned to bury her face in his chest. She cried with worry for Yusei, not wanting to see him in such intense pain. Suddenly, Yami let go of her and she felt a gentle hand brush the tears from her cheeks.
“I told you I would be okay, Sara,” Yusei’s wonderful baritone voice whispered in the girl’s ear. Sara gasped and looked at her boyfriend. She nearly swooned when she saw the ivory-colored wings coming out of Yusei’s back, the feathers looking as soft as woven silk and glittering like they were made of millions of tiny diamonds. Yusei smiled at Sara’s beautiful expression of surprise. He leaned down and captured her lips in a kiss.
“Thank you,” he breathed after they broke apart. Sara looked at him, too stunned to speak. Yusei looked at Yami.
“Thank you for coming to comfort her, Yami,” Yusei said gently. Named genie smiled and nodded.
“I’d do anything for the woman who freed me,” he replied, looking at the two wistfully. Yusei smiled.
“I won’t object if Sara wishes to share her love with someone as kind-hearted as you,” Yusei hinted, making Sara and Yami look at him hopefully. Yusei smiled gently. “I’m not a selfish guy,” he chuckled. The other two smiled. ‘Damn, he’s so perfect!’ Sara thought.
