Chapter 5
Otogi sat in the classroom smirking. He couldn’t wait for his preys to show up in class. He had put a large package on Jou’s desk and was holding another one to give to Kaiba. The thought of what was in those packages widened his smirk. ‘This is going to be interesting, especially on seeing their reactions.’ He watched the door not paying attention to what Honda was saying which irritated him. So he decided to get Otogi’s attention another way. Otogi felt a jab in his side which made him jump and scowl as he turned around to Honda. “Why did you do that man?” He demanded rubbing his side.
Honda just shook his head “I was asking you something and you looked like you were in a world all to yourself.”
Otogi looked at him and smiled “I’m sorry, what was it you where saying?”
Honda shook his head again and rolled his eyes. “I was wondering about that box on Jou desk. Do you have any idea who could have put it there?” He asked repeating the question.
At this inquiry Otogi turned his head back toward the door “Nope I have no idea.” He lied knowing he was the one to have put it there. But not wanting to tell Honda because he would get upset with him and do something about it. And he didn’t want that. At that moment Kaiba entered the room and sat slowly down at his desk noticing the box. He frowned but quickly hid it behind his stony mask. But it was not fast enough because Otogi who was watching him closely saw the frown and wondered about it. It made him think about what he had witnessed yesterday. About Jou getting a mysterious letter and the fact that Kaiba had been watching him. ‘I am definitely going to find out what is going on with those two.’ He turned away from Kaiba before he realized that he was being watched. He could already see his head beginning to come up as if he sensed someone doing just that. He smirked to himself one last time and watched the door for the arrival of Jou.
Jou came running into the classroom a few minutes before the bell rang slightly out of breathe. He walked over but stopped short of his desk when he saw the package sitting on it. Frowning he sat down wondering if this was another gift from his secret admirer. He briefly wondered if he should open it here but decided that the other gifts had been okay and he could see no harm in it. So he unwrapped the packaging and opened up the box, but when he saw what was inside he began to turn red with rage. He snarled and turned on Kaiba “What is the big idea of giving me this?” He demanded throwing the box onto Kaiba’s desk.
Otogi watching all of this smirking to himself got up and walked over to Kaiba’s desk. He took the box and proceeded to empty it laughing as he did. “Oh this is too good. Way to go Kaiba.”
Kaiba sat there stunned as he saw what Otogi was pulling out of the box. It was a dog collar and lease, with a dog food dish and a rubber bone.
“Jou I guess I was right you are a dog.” Otogi laughed.
That was when Jou noticed that the rest of the class except Honda and Yugi were laughing as well. “Kaiba what is the big idea of giving this to me?” He demanded again.
Kaiba was still sitting there stunned “Jou I didn’t give this to you. Why would I waste my time on getting you anything?”
With this said Otogi moved in for the kill. “Kaiba I wanted to give you this.” And he handed him the box that he had been holding. Having no choice but to open it his eyes widened when he saw what was inside. He pulled out a stunning Gold chain with his Blue Eyes White Dragon hanging from it.
When Jou saw this he was beyond hurt. He picked up the gift’s he had been given and threw them at Kaiba. He pushed Otogi out of his way and bolted from the classroom. No one saw the frown that Honda gave Otogi, or the brief look of hurt.
Kaiba looked at the Chain and standing up gathered the other items that Jou had thrown at him and walked out without saying a word to anyone. He was determined to try and salvage any hope he might have in getting Jou to like him. He wasn’t going to keep the Chain or pendant beautiful as it was. As he walked past a rubbish bin without a glance he threw everything that he carried into it and carried on walking. He needed to find Jou and he had a pretty good idea where to look.
Jou feeling humiliated and hurt left school not caring that he could get into trouble for it headed for the one place he could clear his head; the park. What he hadn’t realized was that someone had guessed where he was going and had followed him there. As he sat down and started to cry he heard someone walk up behind him and stop a few feet away. He turned around to see the last person he wanted to see. “Kaiba what are you doing here? Come to laugh at me too?” He asked in a voice that shook with his feelings.
Seto sighed stepped closer. “I didn’t give you that stuff.” He stated in his cold calculating voice.
Jou snorted in disbelief. “Yeah right, I suppose Otogi did or someone else.”
Seto looked at him “Think about it, you decked him the other day and when he tried to apologize you wouldn’t accept it.”
Jou thought about that for a second ‘Kaiba did have a point. Otogi has been laughed at since it happened, but that still didn’t answer the question of the chain.’ He looked at Kaiba and asked “Why are you being nice to me all of a sudden? You are always calling me mutt…” then it hit him ever since the incident in the classroom he hadn’t once called him a mutt. And then today he had followed him after he had left the school.
Jou sat there thinking about all of this and didn’t notice Seto putting a package next to him. Without another word Kaiba turned and walked away knowing that he was taking a real risk by leaving that present. He stopped far enough away too watch Jou open his present, and to watch his face when he did. Jou shook his head to clear his thoughts and looked up as he heard Kaiba leave without saying a word. Jou sighed ‘Typical can’t even say good-bye.’ He bent his head down and that was when he noticed the package and the one thing that told him who it was from. The beautiful Origami Rose that came with each gift. Jou gently picked it up and smiled before he laid it on his lap as he opened his gift. What he found there brought a smile to his face as he pulled out a Red Eyes Black Dragon Plushie. Along with the plushie was a note.

From Your Secret Admirer
Jou looked around but didn’t see anyone except a few women who had brought their children to the park to play. He put the plushie back in the bag it had come in and headed home. He wondered who could have left it and also how they had known he was in the park. When this thought hit him he realized that the only person who knew where he was at was “Kaiba”. He looked around to see if he could see him but he could find no trace of Seto. He frowned and wondered ‘Is Kaiba my secret admirer? If he was what kind of sick joke was he playing?’ The more Jou thought about this the angrier he got. Then he remembered his dream from the night before. It had bothered him, more than he realized. ‘Could he really like me?’ Thinking about what had happened to him in the last few days he began to get a headache. Trying to deal with it all at once he realized was doing him no good. First there was the fight with Otogi, then the secret admirer and his gifts appearing. And now today the prank of Otogi’s and the discovery that Seto was being nice to him. Standing up he gathered his present and started to walk out of the park. He knew his friends would come looking for him so he headed home to try and clear his head.
Kaiba stood there and watched from the distance tears building up in his eyes. Jou had been elated to receive the plushie but when that look disappeared he noticed he was upset again. ‘I have to get out of here.’ He thought deciding the sight of his puppy unhappy was too much for him at the moment. Seto pulled out his cell phone and called for the limo and told the driver to meet him in front of Domino Park. He turned and left to head home, resisting the impulse to look at his puppy again.
Later that night as Jou got ready for bed he pulled out the plushie and lay down hoping he wouldn’t have any more unsettling dreams. Sleep had a way of being cruel, no sooner had he fallen asleep than Jou found himself back at the park looking at the Red Eyes Black Dragon Plushie. Jou wondering what was going on looked around to see who could have left it. The only person he saw was his rival and secret love Seto Kaiba. “Kaiba did you see who left this?” He asked.
Seto looked at him and smiled “Who do you think left it for you? Think about it.” As he said this he turned and walked away.
Jou stood there starring at the retreating figure. ‘I wonder what he meant by that?’ He thought knowing Kaiba never said anything that didn’t have some meaning. Just then it dawned on him ‘Kaiba left it. He’s my secret admirer.’ Jou ran after him only to stop and see Otogi laughing at him.
“Now who would want to give you anything mutt?” Otogi said cruelly.
Jou cringed at the remark wanting to hide from what Otogi was saying. As tears started to fall he looked up to see Seto get into his limo and drive off not once looking back. Tears still falling he collapsed to the ground with Otogi laughing at him.
Jou woke up to the realization that once more he had been dreaming. He turned over and cuddled the plushie and whispered to it almost like he was talking to the Red Eyes Black Dragon. “I don’t know who my secret admirer is but I have a good idea.” That was when he realized he was crying like in his dreams. Looking at the clock he knew it was time to get up to go to school and face all his classmates and friends. But he wasn’t sure if he could do it. He knew that Yugi and Honda would be supportive but wasn’t sure he could face Otogi without doing something. Reluctantly he got up to take a shower and get ready for school.
Across town Seto was facing something similar. He had a feeling that things were going to get a lot worse before they would get better thanks to Otogi. He had to be put in his place and Seto wondered how he could do that without letting Jou know how he felt. Seto looked at the next gift and picked it up. It was a masculine leather choker...inlaid with gold and set with diamonds and topaz. It really was a beautiful piece of work and he knew it would look good against Jou’s throat. But he wondered that after what had happened the day before if he should give it to him. Seto sighed “Jou I love you so much I just don’t want to hurt you.” He whispered out loud. Coming to a decision he picked it up along with the note and the Rose and put them into his briefcase. Determined not to let what Otogi did to Jou get to him Seto smiled. He knew that Otogi wasn’t finished with Jou or him. But he was more than a match for the dice duelist and by the time he was through with him he wouldn’t forget it either. Smirking he gave one last glance to his briefcase and headed downstairs to prepare for another day.
