Chapter 5: Suspicions

I decide to get to school early today. Why? I don't know. I guess because he asked me to.

"You know, I ususally don't do this." I say sitting in a chair across from him.

"I know."

"So, what do you want? I want to actually make it on time for line-ups."

"You will. Do you forget I have to be there too?"

I laugh.

"I wanted to tell you thanks, Katsu-chan."

"Thanks...for what? What did I do?"

"Last night. After you left, I thought about everything we talked about. You're right."

"Uhhh...thanks..."

Right about what???

"No, really, my eyes have been opened to the real world. I understand why Noa ran away.
He went to find the real world and not what Gozaburo had raised us on. But you know the
ironic thing, I used to always think of you as just a dumb blond."

"You're not the first."

"But now I see why you have so many friends."

"Hopefully, I can add one more friend." say looking at him.

He nods. "Of course, nakama."

"Let's go before we're late." I say getting my bag.

We leave out the study room in time enough to hear a bell. As we walk casually past
the librarian, she says something...

"That was the one-minute bell."

We quickly take off to the courtyard and make it in line just in time for the final bell.

I find my drive to take me to Domino Court, Honda's 2nd residence.

I park in front of the 800 residence and walk to 807.

*knock knock*

I hope he's here. Wait...I hope they're not here together. If she finds out...

The door finally opens.

"Is Honda here?" I ask the half-naked male standing in the door.

"Yea Jou, come on in."

I follow him in and sit on the sofa.

I've learned not to meddle in Honda's private business. A busted lip proves that.

"I'll go and get him ok."

Honda is married to Miho Nosaki, his high school crush. They've been married a little
over 2 years. But he's cheating on her with another male, Otogi Ryuji. They've been
fooling around for over 14 years. About the time when Otogi transfered to Domino
High.

The true status of their friendship is so low-key that only four...well the three of us know what's
really going on.

"Jounouchi?" a familiar voice knocks me from my thoughts.

"Honda."

"I'm glad to see you're still alive. So what cat drug you away from Kaiba Manor. You've
been locked in there since after his funeral."

"Mokuba. He encouraged me to leave.

"He's a great kid. I saw him the other day at the mall."

"Yea. He's really level-headed. Reminds me so much of his brother..."

After line-ups and morning classes its time for my favorite period, lunch.

'How about we eat lunch together today Katsu-chan?'
'Nah... Wait, how about you eat with me and the others.'
'No thanks. I'll see you later ok.'

I know...that hurt his feelings a little. Am I ashamed to be friends with him? I mean, I
still haven't told anyone that we've been getting along.

I meet up with Honda, Anzu, and Yugi at our usual table in the courtyard. As I sit down,
I feel all eyes on me...

"What's wrong everyone?"

"You've been acting rather strangely these past few weeks." says Anzu.

"Yea, and it started after speech presentations. Did Kaiba do something to you? Just
say the word and I'll be on him like bark on a tree!" exclaims Honda.

"Everything's fine."

"So, why did you lie to us Jou?" asks Yugi. "You father called shortly after you left."

Am I ashamed? Worried about what they would say?

"Just tell us the truth, ok. We're your friends!" says Anzu.

Friends or interrogators?

"Look, I have to go now. Sorry for cutting this lunch date short, but I have a history test
I really need to pass." I say standing. "Meet you at Burger World after school, around 4
ok."

"Yea." they say in a somewhat awkward unison.

I put my tray in the trash and go to the library before they had the chance to stop me and
ask more questions.

"I'm surprised to see you here three day in a row Jounouchi-kun. Glad to see you finally
studying and not goofing off."

I smile. "Hai, Mizuno-sensei. It's time for me to grow up. Graduation is right around the
corner."

She picks up the phone... "What...Hell just froze over?! Really?! Wow!" she puts the
phone back on the receiver and laughs. "I'm just glad that you're finally being serious about
your schoolwork. If you need any help at all, there's a great student-tutor who can assist
you."

"Ok, that's fine. Is the student here now? I have a history test coming up."

"He should be int he upstairs study room #2. Usually spends most of lunch there."

"Arigatou, Mizuno-sensei."

I hope she's not talking about who I think she's talking about...

I open the door slowly.

"Sorry, I'm not seeing anyone at this time. Please come back in 15 minutes."

"Not even me?" I say innocently.

"Ok then, I can make an exception for you." he says snickering.

I lock the door behind me and put my books on the floor next to the chair I sit in.

I watch as he stacks papers into a folder with KaibaCorp logo on it and shut down
his laptop.

"Finally decide to join me for lunch?" he asks.

"Nah. Just wanted to hang out with you for a while."

Would you be suspicious also? Of course Anzu, Yugi, and Honda doesn't know
