*Chapter 4: The plot Thickens*

Yugi ran as fast as he could. The only sounds making it to his ears was the pitter-patter of the rain, the stomping of his feet…and Yami’s voice.

‘Why did he come back?’

Yugi ran, turning left and right and left again until he came to a house and pounded on the door.

‘Please be home. Please!’

“I’m coming,” said a voice behind the door. It opened to reveal a tall, blonde headed man.

“Yugi! What happened?”

Yugi was still crying.
“Ramrik, can I please come in?”

“Yeah, of course.”
He stepped aside as Yugi entered.

“What happened? Why are you crying?”

Yugi sniffled. “You know that guy I told you about that left me? Well, he came back.”

“Really?! What’d he say?”

“He said that…he wanted to just pick up where he left off…like our life was just some dirty old rag that can be picked up at any time! It just…and my ‘friends’ apparently new and helped him and…I just couldn’t think of anywhere else to go.”

“I’m so sorry. Here, I’ll get you a towel and some night clothes and you can stay here tonight if you want.”

“Really?”

“Sure. Stay as long as you need. I’ll show you the spare bedroom.”

Yugi followed him up the stairs and down the hall to the bedroom.

The bathroom’s down there. Here.”

He handed Yugi a towel and clothes.

“Thanks.”

“No problem. Take you’re time.”
And with that, he walked off.

Yugi stood in the shower letting the water run into his hair and off his body in little rivers of droplets.

‘Why?’ he asked himself.
‘What was he thinking? By the gods. It still hurts. My heart’s pain just woke from its short slumber…and now it’s worse. Why did he have to come back? Why?’
**

Yugi came out wearing a shirt two sizes too big and a pair of loose shorts. His rain drenched clothes were hanging over the tub drying.

He lifted his nose in the air as a fragrance swept its way to him. He followed it till he got to the kitchen where Ramrik was sitting reading a book with a steaming cup next to him.

He looked up.
“Oh. Hey, Yugi. I made some hot cocoa. Would you like some?”

“Yeah, that’d be nice. Thanks.”

“Sure thing.”
Ramrik got up and poured a cup.

“Feeling any better?” he asked as he placed the mug in front of Yugi.

Yugi sighed. “Not really. It’s just…I don’t know. All the time he was gone, I missed him so much and would have given anything to have him back. Then, the pain got less with each passing day…it still hurt like hell, mind you. But the pain didn’t disappear; it morphed into…hatred, loathing, bitterness. I hated that feeling. So when I saw him and heard what he had to say, I just snapped and yelled at him…which only made me feel worse. Sure, he hurt me. But yelling and hating just isn’t me.”
Again he sighed.
“I’m just so confused right now.”

Ramrik looked on with sorrowful eyes.
“Well, if you ever need any help, I’ll be here for you.”

Yugi looked up and smiled.
“Thanks. You’re a great friend.”

“I aim to please.”
**

Yami sat back in his chair, his head hanging low. His eyes were still red from the crying he had done.

“I didn’t know he could yell like that,” said Malik. “And I’ve never heard him use those words.”

“So what are we gonna do now?” asked Tristan. “Wait for him to come back and maybe work things out?”

“No,” said Joey. “It’s a bit late for talking now. Damn. I didn’t expect him to explode like that. I thought he was gonna be thrilled having Yami back.”

“Well, what if we’re taking this the wrong way?” asked Duke. “I mean, what if he was still in shock and he was still out of it when he said those things?”

“Tch.” Bakura rolled his eyes. “And the chances of that are…”

“Zero,” said Marik.

‘He…hates me…’ thought the lonesome Pharaoh.
‘He thinks of me as a low person. He wanted me to get out of his sight…his life.
He hates me.’
**

Yugi woke up with the sun’s rays shining on his face.
He moaned and pulled the pillow over his head. But it was no use. He couldn’t get back to sleep.
He grunted and tossed the pillow on the bed as he sat up rubbing his eyes.

Something wasn’t right. Why were his walls blue? And his bed isn’t normally this high.

The visions from the night before flashed back into mind.

‘Oh yeah. That’s right. Yami came back.’

Then he heard faint music. It was beautiful. Different chimes and wind and string instruments playing together in perfect harmony.

Yugi swung his legs over the side of the bed and hopped off as he wasn’t quite tall enough to reach the floor.

He walked to the living room where Ramrik was sitting with his eyes closed listening to the soft music. It was tuned down real low. Probably to not wake Yugi.

He walked into the room and sat down quietly.

“It’s beautiful music.”

Ramrik opened his eyes.
“Oh, I didn’t wake you, did I?”

“No. I was already up. No worries.” Yugi smiled.

“Good. So would you like some breakfast?”

“Yes, that would be wonderful.”

“What would you like?”

“What do you have?”

“Let’s see…” Ramrik put his hand on his chin as he thought.
“Well, there’s pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and juice.”

“I think pancakes and juice.”

“Good choice. That’s what I want, too.”

Yugi smiled.
**

“Mmm, that was good,” said Yugi patting his stomach. “Where’d you learn to cook like that?”

“My mom. She was always trying to teach me something whether it be cooking, cleaning or laundry.”

“Really? What about your dad?”

“My dad. I haven’t talked to him for…what is it now…five years?”

“Five years?” asked Yugi astonished.

“Yeah. Unfortunately. He and I never really got along. He was a monk at a shrine back home and he wanted me to carry out the tradition and take it over when his time was done but it wasn’t really my thing and my father didn’t approve of my decision.”

“So you haven’t talked in that long?”

“Yep.”
Ramrik shook his head.
“But enough about that. You’re gonna need to borrow some more clothes, right?”

“If you don’t mind. I was thinking of stopping at home really quick to get some stuff later tonight.”
**

Yami hadn’t gotten much sleep.

Frankly, he hadn’t gotten any sleep. He couldn’t get Yugi’s words out of his head.

“FIRST YOU LOVE ME, THEN YOU LEAVE ME! NOW YOU’RE BACK AND YOU JUST EXPECT ME TO FORGIVE AND FORGET?!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG I CRIED OVER YOU?! TWO MONTHS! TWO GOD DAMNED MONTHS!! I’LL BET YOU DIDN’T HAVE ONE OUNCE OF GUILT, DID YOU? DID YOU?!!!!
I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD SINK THIS LOW! I HATE YOU YAMI! I HATE YOU!! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!…JUST GET OUT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!”

‘Why did I have to go?’ he thought.
‘Why didn’t I just stay? What was I thinking?’

“Hey.”

Yami looked up to see Joey walk into the room. He didn’t answer back.

“You still look terrible. Didn't you at least take a nap today from not sleeping last night?”

“How could I?” Yami asked. “I just got yelled at by the love of my life and have just come to realize that…I might never get him back again.”

“C’mon, man. Don’t think like that. Listen. We’ll think of something, alright? Just because we lost a battle, doesn’t mean we lost the war. Don’t give up just yet, ‘kay?”

Yami sighed in reply.

Just then, the others came in. They had all slept over as it was late when they had had their little ‘episode’ the previous night.

“So,” said Ryou, “what are our plans for tonigh
T
They heard a noise coming from the other room. Then they heard the door open and close.

Yugi walked in. He stood in the door way that led to the room that was occupied by all the guests.

Yami stood up.

“I’m only here for a few things,” said Yugi. “I won’t be long.”
He paced over to the stairs and jogged up leaving everyone at the bottom speechless.

Yugi came back down about five minutes later with a backpack on one shoulder.

He walked toward the door.

“Yugi, wait!”

Yugi stooped and turned to face Yami but the said Pharaoh couldn’t think of anything to say.

Yugi sighed. “Look, Yami. I know you came back to see me and to start over again but…it doesn’t work like that. You can’t just leave and bac back and expect everything to be fine and dandy. It really hurt when you left. You want us to have a relationship again…but we can’t. I’ve moved on. It’s time you did too. This is the way it has to be. I’m sorry.”

Yugi turned and left out the door leaving Yami questioning…
What exactly did he mean by that he had moved on?

He wasn’t sure…but he wanted to find out.
