Chapter 5: A BIG Discovery
Liz woke up and looked around to find Mokuba just waking up. "Hey," she said. "My daddy and your brother are gone." Mokuba frowned and looked out the window. "Nope, they're asleep in the hammock outside," he said and she walked to the window pulling herself up to see. Just then, Mokuba snickered. She raised one eyebrow. "What's so funny?" she asked. "I have an idea," he said and dragged her in mine and Seto's room. He walked in the bathroom and looked around grabbing toothpaste and shaving cream. He gave some to Liz, who still had a confused look on her face still. "Mokie, what are you doing?" she asked. "You'll see," he said and slipped outside with Liz carrying the other stuff in tow.
I snuggled up to Seto and sighed in my sleep. Seto held me close and continued to sleep as well. We were unaware that we had two plotting kids standing right near the hammock. Mokuba took the toothpaste and spread it on Seto's face carefully and then grabbed the shaving cream for mine, which neither of us noticed at the moment. Liz giggled softly and tried her hand in it doing it the opposite ways to us and then Mokuba looked at her and nodded. "Let's go," he whispered and they ran off back to bed like nothing had happened. I stirred a moment later and rubbed my eyes to feel something on my face. "What da..." I began and looked at my palm to see a mixture of toothpaste and shaving cream there. I frowned and looked at Seto, who indeed had the same mess all over him! I shook him awake and he frowned seeing the mess on me. "What the hell happened?" he asked. "I dunno, but wanna make a bet two kids are behind dis?" I asked frowning. "Let's wash the stuff off and see," he said when we saw the evidence lying nearby. Yep, I knew two kids that were so busted!
Liz and Mokuba lay in bed sleeping...wait, that's not the proper word there. "Pretending" to sleep...ah, much better! Anyway, Seto and I walked in and winked as we decided to sit on the bed each beside one kid. I took Liz, he had Mokuba. They "stirred" and looked up at us. "You guys enjoy your nap?" Seto asked. "Could've been longer," Mokuba said and Liz nodded in agreement rubbing her eyes. "Did you guys happen to get up or were you sleepin' de entire time?" I asked. They looked at each other then...oh yes, the famous How The Hell Do We Tell This One? look. "We just woke up," Mokuba said frowning. Of course, Liz always allowed Mokuba to talk. She stayed silent like the innocent bystander. Innocent my foot! "Uh huh!" Seto said and looked at me. I nodded and we produced the evidence. "You got one chance to tell us how de hell dis got outside," I said sternly. Mokuba gave a silent gulp and Liz paled severely. "It fell out of the bags," she said. "Elizabeth Michelle Wheeler, how many times have I told ya not to lie to me?" I asked my voice turning into my famous "You're in it deep!" tone. "But..." she began when Mokuba sighed and spoke up. "It was my idea, not hers," he said. "If anyone is to be punished, it should be me." She looked at him suddenly. "Mokie," she whispered. He looked at her and nodded. She gave a very slow nod and sighed lowering her head.
"Both of you are just as guilty," Seto said sternly. "You guys are both confined to the bedroom for the rest of the day. If I hear any arguing, it will be tomorrow too. Do I make myself clear?" They nodded slowly. Liz tried not to sniffle, but you could tell the water works were starting. I shook my head. "I stand with Seto on dis one," I said in a flat tone. "Neither one of you leave dis room. Liz, if you start cryin', I'll give ya somethin' to cry 'bout, understand?" She swallowed hard and nodded. We left the room and shut it behind us. I could hear Liz crying softly and my heart just clenched. Seto shook his head and grabbed my hand. "If you're going to teach her to behave, rewarding bag behavior won't do it," he said. I nodded and followed him off to the beach. Liz watched through the window and wiped her eyes, but the tears still fell. "Mokie, why did you tell them?" she asked. He walked to her and put a hand on her shoulder. "The truth sets you free, Liz," he said. She sniffled and nodded. "I wish I could play in the water," she said. "I just want out of this room." He could tell her body was shaking. "Liz, you ok?" he asked and she dropped to her knees clutching her head and rocking. "The walls are closing in!" she cried at the top of her lungs. Mokuba frowned. "She's claustrophobic," he noticed and bit his lower lip finally opening the window. "Joey! Seto! Something's wrong with Liz!" he cried.
Seto and I looked up with a start. He had panic in his voice and we looked at each other and then ran in the room to find Liz basically panicking. "What happened?" I asked cradling her in my arms. "Joey, I think she's claustrophobic," Mokuba explained. "She started shaking and then just fell to her knees saying the walls were closing in." Seto raised a brow. "Sounds like it," he said. I studied Liz and held her close. I never once known her to act like this. Of course, the human resource person said that abandoned kids do tend to grow fears as they get older. That was when I was in the process of adopting her. I touched her hair gently and stroked it trying to calm her down. It worked a little. "You ok, baby?" I asked and she looked up at me unable to talk. She was practically weak from the fear that had took her over. Seto lifted her in his arms and looked at me. "Come on," he said and Mokuba followed as we walked in the kitchen. It shocked me to find out Seto was going back on his own behavior speech and pulled out some ice cream. if she's not claustrophobic, just what she needs is a hell of a sugar high. But I knew he knew what he was doing. He sat Lix on the counter and took a spoonful of it and looked at her. "You think you can feed yourself?" he asked. "Uh huh," she said her little hands reaching out for the spoon. He took her hand and wrapped her fingers around the handle as she began eating it. "It'll calm her a bit," he explained. "I wasn't planning to give her a lot. Just a spoonful." Was it me or did he sound like Mary Poppins when he said that? I was reminded of the old song Just A Spoonful Of Sugar when he said that and just smiled.
Later that afternoon, Liz had improved and she and Mokuba sat in the living room playing video games. "No, no, no!" she said. "You jump over the mushroom men, not run into them! Mario keeps getting killed that way!" "Well, you do it then," he said handing her the control. "All right, I will," she said and Seto and I just watched in shock as this three-year-old toddler basically creamed the high score on Super Mario Bros. (A/N: They were using a GameCube with a Game Boy Player on it to play this old game. It is for the GBA, so that's how they managed to get it on the TV.) I think my child has been around Yami too much. I just shook my head and cleared my throat to start on dinner. Seto was looking slightly pale a bit. "Hey, you ok?" I asked. "My stomach hurts a bit," he said. I raised a brow on that one. I never remembered him ever getting sick. "Why don't ya go lay down?" I suggested. He nodded as he stood up. "It might be best," he said and walked out of the room. About five minutes later, I heard the bathroom door slam fast. The kids were accounted for, so that could mean one person that was in there. I glanced at Mokuba then. "Watch Liz," I said and he nodded continuing to get whipped by Luigi while poor Mario was doing down!
I knocked on the door and opened it to find Seto curled in a ball coughing a bit. I soaked a washcloth in some cool water and wiped his face off. "You don't dink you caught somethin', do you?" I asked. "I don't know," he whispered. "I felt fine all day." "Maybe all dat drivin' you did got to ya," I said thoughtfully. "Probably so," he said. "If it gets worse, we'll call my personal doctor. I don't want to spoil things now." "I understand," I said and pushed his brown hair back. "Git some sleep if ya can." "I think I can now," he panted and walked in the bedroom laying carefully on his stomach and was soon asleep. I walked in the living room and sat down. "Guys, let's leave Seto alone for now," I said. Mokuba nodded and so did Liz. Too wrapped up in the game to listen to me I believe. But what confused me was why Seto was even sick! This boy had built in immunities for everything! I remember in school the kids kept getting the flu. I had to get Bakura to watch Liz for awhile since I caught it too. Not Seto Kaiba...no, he didn't get shit!
That evening, I checked on him again. Good, he was asleep. I didn't have the heart to disturb him, so I decided to sleep on the couch for now until he got better. Liz looked at me sleepily and climbed in my arms. "Daddy, is Papa ok?" she asked. I pushed back some of her hair and sighed as I held her close. "I hope so, baby," I said. "I hope so." She snuggled against my chest and was soon asleep as I pulled the blanket around us. The sound of the waves outside were enough to put me to sleep.
The next morning, Mokuba walked in rubbing his eyes. "He's throwing up again," he said and I frowned. "I dink we should call dat doc," I said and Liz, who had been up already watching cartoons, nodded. The look on her face was of of true concern. I stroked her head a moment and got on the cell phone. We managed to get Seto in bed before I was ushered out of the room so the doctor could examine him. I was pacing the hallway when the man walked out extremely pale. "What's wrong with him?" I asked in worry. "This has to be the first time I've seen this," he said seriously. "Seen what?" I asked now confused and panicking inside as my heart raced a hundred miles a minute. "Mr. Wheeler, your lover is pregnant," he said. Ok, I really need my ears cleaned. Did he say...pregnant?! i did a good twist as I hit the floor in a dead faint. Liz and Mokuba jumped back then. "Perfect 10," Mokuba said. Liz nodded. "Nice form and twist too," she noted.
Kaiba was pregnant.
I was now a father a second time...
I told you this would be something to remember!
