Chapter 5
Chatty...yes. But, I'd like to think it's getting good. Promise, promise, promise! This is going somewhere.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Duel Monsters or the Yugioh characters used in this story. If the is such a jewel as a rare blood ruby of Bast, I'm sorry is was pure coincidence. Oh yeah, stealing is wrong.

Chapter 5
I must have always known I wasn’t like everyone else. Hell, I always wondered why I felt so aparom rom everyone else: an island unto my own. I thought it was the dream that alienated me from what would be considered as normal. I shook my head to clear the troublesome thought away and continued to walk back to my dressing room. Flo was sitting on the chaise lounger.
“I thought you would change your mind about coming in,” she said as she sat up. “I pulled the costumes you planned to fix out and was hoping you could take a couple of mine as well. You are a lot better and cheaper than sending them out.”
I smiled, “Yes, Iworkwork on yours. You’re spooky…can you read my mind?”
Flo’s face saddened at that question. “No…because if I could, I would help you fight your demons so you don’t have to suffer.”
“I’m not suffering.”
“The hell you aren’t. I’ve seen the scars you let Marik leave behind. I’ve also seen how tired, tense and confused you get when you’ve had a bad night. What’s going on in your head? Why won’t you let me in?”
“You wouldn’t understand. Shit, I barely understand myself. As for the scars Marik leaves behind; they only go skin deep. They never reach my soul.”
“Darling, you don’t let anything, or anyone for that matter, reach your soul.”
“Here…Mai was swamped and asked if I would bring you this.” I handed her the water. She just sat the glass on the table without taking a sip.
“You’re avoiding the subject again, aren’t you? You must be because you look awful.”
“I’m fine. Can we drop this? I’ll be…”
There was a knock at the door. Mai poked her head in, “Am I interrupting?”
“No,” I said. “What did you need?”
Mai continued, “Mokuba is here to see you, Flo. He says to tell you he has the paint samples you asked for. What are they for…just nosy.”
Flo blushed, “Well, Mokuba is redecorating my flat and I wasn’t sure what to paint the walls. He offered to get some samples for me to look at.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Really? He ought to match the pink in your cheeks for your boudoir. Care to try again?”
Flo’s blush deepened. “Oh, all right. I’m kinda interested in him and I’m shy.”
Mai laughed out loud. “Now I’ve heard everything! You…shy? I’ve heard stories about you and how you are with your clients. Shy, my ass!”
“Stop it! That’s why I’m shy. I’m sure Mokuba has heard stories too but I want to be different for him!” Flo said in a huff.
“Enough. Flo, go and talk to Mokie. Or would you prefer for me to leave?” I asked.
Mai chimed in again. “You can’t leave…you have a delivery.” With that said, Mai moved out of the doorway to let the delivery guys in. Three guys, each carrying a dozen blood red roses, walked into the room. Flo jumped up and started to clear some room on the table for them. I signed for the flowers and the delivery guys left the room. Mokuba poked his head in the doorway.
“Hey Mai, did you tell Flo…” He paused as he looked from Flo, to me, and then to the roses on the table.
“Oh boy, I came at the wrong time. I’ll call you…” he stuttered. I reached over and grabbed his arm.
“No sweetie, you’re okay. Mai just told us you were here and then the delivery guys walked in. Have a seat and relax.” I said as I walked over to one of the vases. I pulled the envelope out of the arrangement and just stared down at it.
“Funny…roses were delivered to the loft this afternoon too. I can’t shake the feeling that someone is watching me,” I muttered as I opened the envelope. I pulled out another Duel Monsters card and this one I recognized: Blue Eyes White Dragon. I quickly grabbed the other two envelopes. They had the same cards in them as well. “Mai, be a doll and bring me another drink. I need to sit down.”
“Sure. Are you okay?” Mai asked, concerned by the look on my face.
“Yeah…I’m fine. I just need a fresh drink.” Mai turned and left the room quickly.
Mokuba took the card out of my hand and gasped, “This is Seto’s card! What’s it doing in here?”
“I don’t know; but it’s in the other two envelopes as well.” I answered. I pictured icy blue eyes, staring at me, from over a stack of oranges.
“Mokie…does Seto have ice blue eyes?” I asked.
“Well, I wouldn’t say ice blue. More like…electric blue. Why?”
“Because I think your brother has been following me all day. I am almost positive I caught him staring at me in the produce section of the market earlier. And, these roses are just like the ones delivered to my loft and that bunch had a Duel Monsters card in it as well.”
“These cards are so rare…how did they get in the flowers?” he asked. Flo grabbed Mokie’s hand and pulled him towards the door. “We’ll give you some space…Mokie and I should go talk about paint samples,” she said as they walked out.
I stared at the red, red roses on the table.
Rare…red. Rare…blood red. Rare…
I hung upside down over the rare blood ruby of Bast. It was the last jewel I needed to complete my collection. Stealing jewels of Egyptian antiquity was a hobby of mine. I had many offers to part with several pieces: money, power, sex. I refused each offer as they came. I checked the wires I used to reroute the alarm on the case; everything looked in place. I carefully lifted the glass cover from off the base. I froze. Something didn’t feel right…it felt like someone was watching me. I put the case back down and flipped myself back over. I would have to try this again later. I hoisted myself back up to the balcony that lead out from the atrium.
The alarm went off.
I screamed as I heard the ringing of…a cell phone? I turned back towards the door. Mai fumbled with my drink in one hand and she was trying to reach for her cell phone with the other.
rap!rap! I forgot to turn this stupid thing to vibrate. Bakura will kill me if he finds out I take calls during my shift. You won’t say…are you okay?” she asked. She stared at me as I tried to regain my composure.
“Uh…yeah. I was just deep in thought and didn’t hear you walk in. You surprised me, that’s all.” I stammered. I took the drink from out of her hand and drank it in one gulp.
“Well, if you okay. Oh, I almost forgot. This message was waiting for you at the bar,” she said as she handed me the note. I opened it with shaking hands…
Meet Me…
