Chapter 5: The Ancient Past Comes Back To Haunt Even The Weakest Of Hearts

Kali's POV

I'm so bored.

Uncle Yugi dragged us to these pyramids and it wasn't as fun as I thought. Daddy seemed interesting in one carving though and even took the picture. Everyone else was like they were back at the museum back home in Domino City. Now we're back in the hotel and the adults are napping.

Me, I'm sitting by a window in the main room bored out of my mind!

Yet, since we left that weird place, this voice beckons me back for some reason. It was like I have unfinished business over there. I'm not allowed to leave the hotel though without someone with me. How can I get over there? I guess the rest of this day...I'm stin tin this room without a hope in the world.

Normal POV

Kali sighed and rested her head in her knees. But the voice kept biting at her and she frowned sliding out of the windowsill and walking to the door looking behind her a moment before walking outside. She walked to the pyramid and entered it without much trouble. "Hello?" she asked looking around. She stopped in the middle of a circle and glanced around with a sigh. "Papa and Daddy are gonna be so mad if I don't go back," she said and turned to leave when the floor below her began glowing and a wind blew from beneath her feet. She dropped down to her knees to hold on as tears slid down her cheeks. "DADDY! PAPA!" she cried scared out of her wits when the floor opened and she fell in screaming.

Kali hit the ground hard and groaned shaking her head slightly. "What was that?" she asked as she stood up brushing herself off. "It's a portal into the ancient past," a female voice said as a glow came in the room and a woman that looked almost identical to her stood there. Kali frowned deeply. "I don't believe this," she said crossing her arms on her chest. "I wanna go home now!" "You will in due time, Kali," the woman chuckled. Kali blinked and stepped back. "Who are you?" she asked in confusion. "I am who you were in the past," the woman said. "My name is Kyra. You are my reincarnation."

Kali studied Kyra and raised an eyebrow. "You're older than me though," she said. Kyra chuckled. "I know," she said. "I'm 5,000 years old. I should be older than you." "Wow!" Kali gasped in shock. "Kali, the reason I called you here was to help learn your destiny...the one I wrote for you 5,000 years ago in the ancient scriptures," Kyra chuckled. She walked to her and touched her cheek. "Kali, at your birth, you had an injury, right?" she asked. Kali nodded and pushed back her hair to reveal a star shaped scar on her neck barely visible. "There was another reason for that," Kyra said and smiled. "See, italitality, the ability never to die and have extroardinary powers, was new in my day. The Gods only gave it to certain ones destined for it. My fathers once thought I was since I unlocked the Shadow Games somehow and I helped heal. However, it wasn't meant to be." Kali looked at her. "I lived a long life, but my powers weakened and I soon became mortal again," Kyra said. "I died so that my reincarnation could gain full immortality."

Kali frowned. "So...that would be me," she said. "Yes," Kyra said and sat down pulling Kali in her lap. "However, you'll be going through a series of tests to see if you're truly worthy of such power. You passed two already. You have one more that will require your strength and your powers will come in handy for it." She removed a necklace from around her neck and placed it on Kali's neck. "Keep this with you no matter what," she said. "I'm trusting you with it from now on, understand?" Kali nodded and studied it a moment. "It looks like a cross," she said. "It is and holds great power," Kyra said and kissed Kali's forehead. "I have faith in you and you can pass this test," she said before disappearing. "Kyra?" Kali asked frowning. "Ok, now how do I get out of here?" She glanced up toward the ceiling she fell out of and sighed.

"This is gonna be harder than I thought."

Later that afternoon, Kali woke up hearing a rumbling noise above her. She jumped a brick just in time and scampered in the shadows to see tomb robbers entering the temple. "All this on the Black Market?" one asked laughing. "Damn, this is perfect!" Kali hid behind a corner in the darkness watching and frowning deeply. "Help me lift this stuff," another said when they spotted the white haired girl nearby. "Looks like we have company," a man chuckled. Kali gasped and tore off running down the hallway when she tripped and slammed into the floor hard sliding five feet before stopping. Her leg was badly injuried and she limped toward the sunlight she saw nearby and struggled out into the desert breathing hard. The sun was bright and she shielded her eyes from the glare. "There she is!" someone shouted and she tried to run, but couldn't. "Daddy! Papa! Help me!" she cried as she tried to run, but fell hard in the sand.

The tomb robber bound and gagged her smiling. "Your parents will pay a pretty price to get you back, little one," he said. Kali's eyes grew wide with fear. Her leg was hurting and bleeding and she knew if she wasn't careful, she could die! Kyra's necklace remained hidden inside her shirt and the metal touched her flesh causing her to feel comfort. But even that didn't stop the pain and she collasped on the ground unconsious. The man frowned and lifted her in his arms. "Tend to her injuries," his boss said. "The girl will be an asset for ransom." The man nodded and did as he was told.

Meanwhile, the others were trying to find Kali when Duke saw a note on the door and read it. "Oh shit," he said handing it to Bakura. The former tomb robber read the ransom and slammed his fist into the wall nearly breaking the bone. "Bastards," he growled and fell on the couch crying. A glow appeared in front of them and Kyra stood there. Everyone stared in shock then. "Kali...all grown up suddenly?" Yami asked in shock. "No, my pharaoh," she said. "Kali is my reincarnation. My name is Kyra. It was I that brought Kali from here to show her what her destiny was...and it is I that will help all of you find her."

Bakura stared at his eldest daughter and nodded. She walked to him and touched his cheek. "Father..." she said and smiled. "Kali has transformed you. I'm grateful." He touched her cheek and sighed. "I'm so sorry," he whispered. "Forgive me." "I already have seeing you with her," she said smiling. "Now...to what we must attend to and that is save Kali from certain death." Everyone else nodded in agreement as the 5,000-year-old spirit began to speak.
