Chapter 39: Full Recovery
I can't believe this... Well, actually I can. But it depends on what you're talking about.
Yugi and I.
Yes, I can believe that. He knows how sorry I am. But he just won't accept my apology. Do you
blame him? I allowed another man to have sexual contact with me. The man? Jounouchi.
Yea, the same Jounouchi who nearly despises yaoi relationships. The same Jounouchi who had a
yaoi encounter with an unknown male. Most likely, it's Kaiba. I wouldn't be surprised.
Me getting my sight back.
Now that's what I can't believe. My parents have paid for the surgery with Dr. Ushio. It's in two
days. Tomorrow I'll be going to the hospital for prep and then Friday, I have the surgery!
Friday will be the day I will be able to see once again. Too bad the person I desire to see most wants
nothing to do with me.
My parents have been extremely busy with work. A LOT of work since they took so much time off.
It's better for me to stay with the Mutou family until my sight is restored.
Since Yugi broke up with me, I've been sleeping in the guest bedroom. Masanori-kun and Ashita-san
have been doing a lot to help me since Aibou no longer wants anything to do with me.
Never had I seen him so cold.
I'm laying in bed, listening to the radio when someone comes in.
Ashita-san.
"Atemu?"
"Hai?"
"How are you feeling?"
"Doing great."
"Are you ready for tomorrow?"
"I can't wait."
"Well, here's something to eat."
I sit up and feel a table against my legs. I smell the food and it smells great!
"I hate that you and Yugi are seperated now." she says.
"It's fine. I deserve it."
"What happened? Yugi's not telling me anything."
"I'm sorry Ashita-san, but I can't tell you anything either."
She sighs. "It's fine Atemu. I hope you two can make up soon."
I eat my food and go to bed.
...
I wake up at 5am to the sound of my alarm clock going mad. I somehow manage to turn it off and sit
up in bed.
A few minutes later the door opens and the person yawns.
Aibou?!
He helps me get ready in silence... Eerie, ghost scaring silence. He even drives me to the hospital. Is this
something his parents made him do or is he doing this on his own?
When we get there, I get checked in and placed into a room.
"Ohayo gozaimasu, Atemu-kun! I am Dr. Ushio Tazanaka and I will be performing your surgery on
tomorrow. Today is just a preparation day and a run down on what will be going on during the
operation."
He hands me a raised chart and guides my hands over certain parts, explaining what will be going
on with each and how he will adjust various parts of my eye to correct my vision.
Afterwards, he takes me to a room where my eyes are closely examined by him and a few other people.
"Atemu," he starts as we go back into my hospital room. "The surgery will be extremely risky, but you
will have a high chance of gaining around 80% of your vision. Although you won't be at 20/20, you may
get as close as 30/30. Of course after that, you will have to wear corrective lenses."
Wow...I can't believe it! After tomorrow, I will be able to see again!
"That's all for today Atemu. I will see you tomorrow. Get a good day and night's rest. Your surgery will
begin at 7am."
He leaves the room and surprisingly enough, Aibou is still here.
"Since he's done here, I will go."
"Wait?! Is there someone else coming to stay with me?" I ask before he leaves.
"That's what the hospital staff is for."
"Aibou, can we just put this behind us and..."
"No. We can't. This is unforgivable and you are unforgiven Atemu. Bye."
"Don't..."
Door closes...
"...leave..."
I lay back in bed and stare... I don't know what I'm looking at, the ceiling's a white blur. I guess since
I'm alone now, I'll go to sleep.
~~~
(Next Morning)
"Atemu? Wake up. Dr. Ushio will be here shortly!"
I open my eyes to see the blobs of mom and dad standing before me.
"Mom, dad..."
They help me take my bath and put on another hospital gown. A few minutes later, a nurse puts some
drops into my eye and a special dressing on my face. She then wraps my eyes in a bandage.
"This is to prep your eyes and face for the operation. After about 4 hours the dressing will be fully
absorbed into your face. The drops are to dilate his eyes and they will remain dilated for the next 6 hours.
Even though the procedure will be only about 3 hours, we won't be able to remove the bandage until
Monday."
About 25 more minutes pass before I'm put onto a bed and rolled to operation.
"We wish only the best for you ibn." dad says.
"Be strong Atemu!" adds mom.
"Arigatou!" I say before giving the two a thumbs up.
"Welcome, Atemu-kun." greets Dr. Ushio.
"Ohayo." I say before feeling some alcohol rubbed onto my forearm.
"Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit." he says, then inserts a massive needle into my body.
"Itai!!"
'This won't hurt a bit' my ass!
"This is to deaden your body before you sleep."
I feel a mask being put on my face and a strange gas...
Why do I feel so happy all of a sudden... Laughing gas...
"Why do bats fly at night? So they won't be exposed to too much sun!"
*Dr. Ushio's POV* (AN: Atemu's laughing too much to do this...)
I love giving my patients laughing gas to put them to sleep. It always puts me in a good mood before
surgeries.
You have to love those jokes he's telling. They don't make any sense, but they're still funny!
"I love you Doctor!" he says before once again bursting out into laughter.
From what I've heard, Atemu Ikhras is usually a serious person and he does not act like this at all. I
think I may take the survelance camera tape and let him watch it.
Ahh, there he goes. Sleeping with a smile on his face.
~~~~~~~
(The following Monday: Domino Regional Hospital) *Atemu's POV*
So, this is what being 100% blind is. It's dark. But, my eyes are still bandaged. What else would you
expect.
I hear the door open, but it's hard to sense who it is...
Tsch, I lost my 6th sense!
"Ohayo, ibn."
"Ohayo, otou-chan."
"Are you excited?"
"YES! I am!! I can't wait! Where's mom?"
"In the gift shop."
"Ohh."
The door opens again.
"Ohayo Dr. Ushio." greets dad.
"Ohayo Ikhras-kun, Atemu-kun. Are you ready?"
"YES!!" I exclaim sitting up in bed.
I feel as the bandages slowly disappear from my head. The brightness of the light floods my eyes, causing
me to squinch, even though they're still closed. I feel my hair pop back out to normal, even though half of
it has been tied down for 3 days.
"Whenever you're ready, Atemu." Dr. Ushio says.
*Sigh* Am I ready? Ready to see the world once again?! Of course I am! I can't rush it, or my head
will start hurting.
Ok...here goes...
I open my eyes and slowly everything focuses. Color...shape...form... I can see! I look at the doctor and
he's smiling. I then look at my dad. Woah, how much has changed in a year!
The door opens once more.
"Mom! I can see you mom!"
She drops the bag and runs to me.
"I can see mom." I say before the tears flow from my eyes.
(Juuichigatsu of the same Year AN: November! I know that's a lot of time since June!!)
Seeing for yourself is a wonderful thing! I currently wear contacts.
Right now, I'm in Alexandria, Egypt at Seth's home. It's almost time for the Alexandrian Rose to bloom
and for my week-long hibernation.
In July I moved back home. Aibou didn't even bother saying goodbye or helping me with my luggage.
You would think he'd be happy to have me away from him.
Of course we're still seperated...broken up. Maybe he wanted it that way. With me out the way, he will
be able to fulfill his dream. The last I saw of Aibou was at an invitational tournament in August. They
only invited 16 duelists.
We didn't get a chance to duel each other, but I was given some of the nastiest looks from Aibou...Looks
I never thought he was capable of. Don't let that innocent looking face fool you.
*Sigh*
I remember sitting on this same patio...looking at the same place on the house where I threw that bottle
of CandK cologne.
Why is that in my head?!
"Long time no see, Atemu."
I turn around to see...Karim....
"What brings you in this direction Karim?" I ask as he walks onto the patio and sit across from me.
"My family recently moved down the street from here. I was on my way to the bazaar when I saw you,
so I decided to come over and speak."
"Oh. Well. You've spoke, so now you can go."
"Atemu?! Is it still like that between us?! Do you not feel anything that we once had?"
I look at him...
"Wait, are you still with that guy from Japan? Well, If you are..."
"No. We broke up in May."
"Is that door is opened once more for me?"
"Karim. How am I supposed to trust you? Trust that you didn't do what you did to me 5 years ago?!"
"I've been single since that day. Waiting on the day that you and I can get back together."
"No, Karim, this isn't going to work!" I stand up to go back into the house, to leave him just as I did
that day until he grabs my wrist.
"Atemu." he says pulling me close to him. "You are the only person for me. I don't care what other people
think of us now. I'm much more mature than I was before."
He kisses me.
"Please, Atemu."
(One Week Later.)
"All right Atemu. You know the routine." the doctor says as he injects the medicine into me.
It's been a crazy week here. Since I've been staying with Seth, Aunt Taha, and Uncle Akunadin, Karim
hasn't failed to come and visit at least twice a day.
We've been talking a lot. Catching up. He still wants a relationship with me. I told him that I....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bet you want to know why that was cut off. Atemu fell asleep. LOL So, are Karim and Atemu back
together? What did you think of this chapter? Please review, so I can give you the 40th chapter! You're
really going to flip your wigs over that one!
