Chapter 4
“Yo, wolf-boy! How long’s it gonna take for that arm of your to heal?” Yami laughed one night as Nikki was feeding Yusei again.The werewolf growled, ready to lunge, but his human caretaker held him back.
“Keep that up and your arm will never heal, Yusei,” Nikki said gently, touching his shoulder. He looked at her and saw concern and compassion shining in her eye, along with something else. That look alone diffused his anger, but not completely.
“You’ll get it later, fang-face, once my arm heals,” the werewolf growled. Yami chuckled. Yusei was at the mercy of his emotions. The vampire wondered if they knew each other’s feelings. His kind were known to seduce humans and prey on them, and Yami saw the chemistry building between them.
Yami looked at the clock, yawning. “Love to stay and chat, but it’s time for bed,” he said cheekily, leaving through the trapdoor to his bedroom. Yusei yawned as well.
“I think I’ll take a snooze too,” he said, heading over to the couch. Nikki took his good shoulder in a firm grip. He looked over at her.
“You are not sleeping on that couch anymore,” she declared, trying to find an excuse to break the ice. She steered him to the cabin’s one bedroom. “It’s no good for your broken arm. We’re both responsible adults, we can share a bed.”
The unspoken message was clear. Nikki was taking the wheel of their relationship.
