Chapter Three: Heart Whole
The sun was warm on Yugi’s back as he drove the Hummer he had rented across the sands. It was nice to feel that warmth of sun and the coolness of breeze on him, it reminded him of something from a dream. He blushed slightly, though it was lost in the burn that was beginning to grace his pale features, at the dream he had the previous night. Somehow it really had felt so real…
“The Department of Egyptian Antiquities announced today that a new tomb has been unearthed in an area just outside the Valley of the Kings. They anticipate this to be one of the biggest finds in the area since King Tutahknamun’s tomb was uncovered. Blasting will begin at the location today and it’s been advised that all tourists should remain out of this location between the hours of noon and one PM.”
Yugi arched an eyebrow at the announcement and checked the time on his dashboard. He would have more than enough time to get to where he was going and back before that appointed hour, so it didn’t concern him. However, he was interested in what was being uncovered and made note to go back later and see it. Of course he was sure he could ask Isis about it as well, she would be able to get him in to see the location by pulling a few strings.
“A power draws closer. “
“Can you tell anything about it?”
“Is it good or evil?”
“I’m not sure at this point.”
“Things have been so quiet.”
“Yes, they have.”
“This new power could cause trouble for us.”
“Yes.”
“Shall we watch it, then?”
“Yes and inform me of any changes as soon as they happen”
“So it is written and so it shall be done.”
He threw his backpack over his shoulder and shading his eyes he looked over the area. Five years may have changed people but five years had done nothing to this location. It was still as it had been after their duel -a ruin with no indication that anything had ever been there to begin with. However, Yugi knew otherwise, his heart could lead him to this place no matter what for it was here that his heart was buried. It was here that everything had come to an end…
He walked closer to where the entrance had once been and he kneeled down. He bowed his head and brushed his hands over the sacred sands that had claimed everything that he had once held dear. He sighed a moment as he stood up and looked around, looking for a good place to sit down and just meditate and become one with the location. He soon found it and sitting down he opened his backpack and took out the scrapbook he had brought with him. He started to write then about the trip here and about his feelings…and the dream he had.
“It’s closer.”
“Evil or good?”
“I still cannot tell. Things are clouded to me.”
“Should we assume it’s evil?”
“No, not until it shows it’s true intentions.”
“Does there seem to be a connection?”
“Connection?”
“Between this world and this person?”
“Yes…”
“Any speculations about this?”
“Perhaps…it’s someone close to us.”
“Perhaps…it’s someone close to you.”
“Close to me? There is no one.”
“No one?”
“None. Continue to watch this person and if they make any moves don’t hesitate to act accordingly.”
“As you will it so it shall be done.”
He finally closed the book and smiled content with what he had done and the notations he had made. He slipped the book lovingly back into his bag and stood up throwing it back over his shoulder. He was starting to feel a little better for having come here. At least at this location, while he was sad, he found that his heart felt whole here instead of being fractured anywhere else. It was as if he had finally come home. And maybe he had for his other half was here at least in someway.
Sparkle…
He turned his head slowly towards the glow and blinked.
Sparkle…sparkle…
Like a beacon it called to him.
Sparkle…
A glint of gold beneath the sands was reaching out to him it seemed. He ran to the gold color and kneeled down in the sands digging his fingers through it. Every time though he seemed to get closer to the object, the sands would shift and bury it more. He growled in annoyance and continued to dig, shifting the sands even more. He had to find out what this was even though the sparkle seemed to be taking him on a wild goose chase. He continued to shift through the sands quickly, not really paying attention to anything at all.
Bang!
He looked in the direction of the sound and blinked in further confusion.
‘Blasting?’ he thought to himself. Then he remembered the announcement he had heard. But was it really that late?
Bang!
The sands where Yugi was sifted and seemed to diminish slightly for the blasting. He saw the glint of gold once more and started to dig faster than before. It had to be something of worth, something from their past adventures that he could hold on to for the rest of his life. Something that could make his heart whole when he couldn’t be here. If that was the case he had to find it no matter what.
Sparkle…
It was as illusive as ever…
Bang!
The ground shook and the sands seemed to shift.
Sparkle…
He had to reach it no matter what.
BANG!
It didn’t take much though for the already shifting sands to succumb to the blasts near-by, the digging and Yugi’s weight. It seemed like only a second with no way to react except to scream when the sands beneath him gave in and swallowed him, shifting enough to cover the hole the had fallen into once more.
