“Ladies and Gentlemen, we are down to our final two acts, Misters Joseph Wheeler and Jonathan DeHart!” Ryan informed the crowd, who clapped politely for both. “This is the final round! Whoever wins this, takes home the first prize, a check for $100 and 45 minutes free studio time courtesy of Dragon Recording Studio!” The crowd clapped once more. “Now, for one final time, put your hands together for Mister Jonathon DeHart!”
Seto looked the boy over. He looked a bit older than Joey, but not as talented. Not that Seto was bias or anything, but all this Jonathon did was sit on the stage with his guitar every act, whereas Joey had the entire crowd going with him every time. How this kid even made it to the final round was beyond him, but the crowd seemed to really like him once he was done.
Then it was his lover’s final turn. It had a hard rock feel, and as soon as the young man opened his mouth, Seto recognized the song. After all, Joey had written it just for him.
You think I've got it all
Everyone thinks I've got it made, well
How come my only friends
Are the ones I pay?
No one understands
What I would do to change my life
For just one day
Don't say if I were you (say if I were you)
Or tell me what to do
How things would be if you were in my shoes
'Cause you're not me
You know what I need
And it's not another serenade
I get so tired of
All the things you say
Give me what I want
If it only would I'd gladly
Throw this all away
Don't say if I were you (say if I were you)
Or tell me what to do
How things would be if you were in my shoes
'Cause you're not me
Please take me as I am (take me as I am)
This isn't what I planned
I guess I don't expect that
You could understand
'Cause you're not me
I know you think you're being nice
But spare me all your lame advice
Time to play my hand and roll the dice
Everybody's got their price
For far too long I've been denied
I'm making my move, so just step aside
No one can say I never tried
To do everything to get back my pride
Yeah, you were never me
Why can't you see
That you're not me
Don't say if I were you (say if I were you)
Or tell me what to do
How things would be if you were in my shoes
'Cause you're not me
Please, help me if you can (help me if you can)
This isn't what I planned
Guess I don't expect that
You could understand
'Cause you're not me
Seto clapped with the rest as Joey took his well-deserved bow, even started a standing ovation for him. He couldn’t take his eyes off the young man who’d somehow managed to steal his heart. Joey looked like he had just entered heaven. Seto wasn’t surprised. The center of attention was exactly where his lover belonged.
“Ladies and Gentlemen!!” Ryan was back, waving an envelope around. “Our esteemed judges have come to their conclusion! Will Joseph Wheeler and Jonathon DeHart please join me on stage?” The two young men appeared from behind the curtain. Ryan began to open the envelope. “Alright. This is the moment, guys. Think you can take the pressure?” Seto saw Joey’s eyes look hungry, but not for what they were usually hungry for. If this guy didn’t announce the winner soon, Joey was gonna rip him apart. Seto had a small laugh with himself over the thought.
“And the winner is.... Joseph Wheeler!” Joey start jumping around, his friends stood and cheered (as did Seto), and Ryan had to get a hold of Joey to give him his prize. “Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for joining us this evening! Good night and drive safely!”
((Joey still has to get congrats-coming soon!)))
