At the Hospital

Chapter Four: At the Hospital

Kagome couldn’t help as more tears stung her eyes. She wiped them away quickly. Yami still hadn’t moved.

“Oh Yami.” She whispered. “Who did this to you?”
She brushed a lock of hair from his face. “Please be okay.”
It was hard to believe it all happened in less than an hour.
Nearly making love to Ryou, being interrupted by Marik, heading home In annoyance, and, and the, finding Yami…. She began to cry softly again.
What if he had to be in a wheelchair? Or be hospitalized? Or..worst of all….if he didn’t make it through?

At the hospital Kagome wiped off yet more tears. She was in the waiting room while Yami was being examined.

Ryou walked over and sat by her quietly. He placed an arm around her back, not saying a word. Kagome turned to him, tears again streaming down her face. She buried her face into the small area between his neck and shoulder.
“R-Ryou.” She sobbed as he wrapped his other arm around her. “Wh-what if he doesn’t make it?”
Ryou shook his head before finally saying. “Shhh, don’t think that way.”
A pause.
“Believe he’ll pull through.” He murmured.

“Ma’am.” A nurse called to her.
Kagome looked up. “Y-yes?”
“Please come here.”
She stood up with Ryou’s help. On the way to the desk he helped her, arms still around her waist.

“Well,” said the nurse looking at her clipboard. “Your name is Kagome Higurashi, correct?” Kagome nodded.
“Okay, may I have the patient’s name?”
Kagome shook her head, unable to speak anymore.
Ryou looked at her, “Want me to answer?”
She nodded. “His name is Yami Yugi.”
The nurse nodded, scribbling something down. “Anyone you should call?”
“A few, yeah.”

Twenty minutes later the whole (both) gang had gathered. Joey, Tristan, Tea, Duke, Inu-Yasha, Miroku, Sango, Bakura, Marik, Malik, Yugi and even Kaiba. Yugi’s mom and grandpa were there. Tea was crying, as was Yugi, (behold, my proof he is gay!).

“The doctor says one person may see him. He is awake.” The same nurse from earlier informed them.
“Go ahead Yugi.” Kagome said quietly.
“No Kagome.”, he answered. “You found him, he’ll want to thank you.”
She smiled. “Sure?”
“Yeah.”

Kagome entered Yami’s room quietly. “Yami?”
The Pharaoh looked up at her in surprise. “Wh-who are you?” he asked.

A doctor slipped in from behind her. “Are you the girl who brought him in?”
“Yes, I am.”
“Well,” started the doctor uncomfortably. “I-I’m afraid I have some bad news.”
“What?” Kagome asked fearfully.
“Firstly, his legs were crushed, causing him to lose a lot of blood from not only there, but the stab in his chest too. We cannot seem to find a match for his blood type, it is, completely new to us. And last, he seem s to have amnesia.”
Kagome’s eyes widened. “Wh-what?”
The doctor nodded. “If we don’t replace the blood within..” he looked down at his watch. “One hour, he’ll die. In case you didn’t notice, he isn’t looking very active right now. Quite tired.” “I’ll be right back!” Kagome exclaimed, excited.

“Yugi!” she shouted, back in the waiting room.
He looked up at her the same way Yami had. “Yes?”
“Come on, I think you may be able to help!” She dragged him back to the doctor.

“Sir,” she began, “Check his blood, I believe it may match.”

Ten minutes later, the doctor returned. “Well,” he sighed. “It’s a match. We need to get the blood transferred now. If you’d please leave.”
Kagome nodded, bowed, and exited the room.

Half an hour later, the doctor came out smiling. “Your friend is fine. The blood was transferred. We also dealt with his legs. It was mainly the knees, which we performed surgery on. The other bones will heal themselves in a matter of several months with casts and a wheelchair.” Kagome breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank God. Now it’s just the amnesia.”
