Chap.4 Saved

Note: There will be another update after this. But don’t get confused, this really is the final chapter that completes the story. The update will be made in order to answer your reviews (‘cause I think you deserve that!) and for another reason that I will elaborate on after todays chapter.

DISCLAIMER: A bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and a crappy old videotape is about all I own that's related to the series. And, not even I am stupid enough to expect payment for my writings, so... no need to worry about financial benefits, alright? Be generous and PLEASE don't sue me, all you might get are my cards... and I couldn't live without my baby dragon :(

Here it comes, the final chapter:

Chapter Four: “Saved”

Joey stared at the open closet door, ignoring his friends and cursing himself for being so dumb when it came to using the right tone. He’d only had one single word to say and he had messed it up completely. Instead of sounding passionate and determined, his voice had squeaked.

He leaned back into the wall looking down, not knowing what to do. Tristan stumbled into the small room, inspecting his friend.

“He was kissing you…” he uttered dully. He seemed to be lost on exactly how to react to that. Finally he straightened and declared: “That moron. If this is some new sort of game to make you feel inferior, I’m gonna beat the crap out of the bastard.”

“Yeah,” Tea said, squeezing herself through Yugi and Ryou, “That would be just like him. As if hurting Joey with words wasn’t enough!”

“He was being insensitive by playing on Joey’s wants like that!”, was Ryou’s idea as he entered the crowded room. The three friends burst out into arguing about what to do to the jerk, swearing and cursing.

Just before Yugi and Serenity could jump in as well Mai appeared in the doorframe.

“Shut up everyone!” she commanded. And for a second it was quiet.

But then Tristan sneered at her. “Why should we, Miss I-repay-my-favours-by-setting-up-my-friends?”

“Because it’s about Joey, and you didn’t even ask about his opinion.”, she answered, putting her hands on the hips.

This worked. Everyone’s heads turned towards Joey who was still standing there staring at the floor.

“Joey?” Mai asked snatching him out of his thoughts, “Do you believe that Kaiba did this because he wanted to hurt you?”

Joey blinked and then determinedly shook his head.

“So,” she continued, “what should we do now?”

Now, Joey looked up at her and smiled.

He ran towards the door, overhearing the suffocating coughs of his friends while he forced his way through them. He quickly stopped in front of Mai, hugged her like mad and whispered a short “Thank you!” into her ear, before rushing down the stairs and out of the house.

Suppressing the tears was an easy task, considering it was something he was familiar with and quite skilled at. He never cried and for sure he wasn’t going to start it now! Kaiba forced himself to put on the usual stone cold face in order to get away from there.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps and a familiar voice calling out his name. Joey.

Why had he followed him?! To get another laugh at him?!

Kaiba ducked further in his hiding place behind the car and watched Joey run past him. The blond looked down all the adjoining streets and, after obviously not finding what he was looking for, gradually slowed down to a stop, unencouraged.

Kaiba knew it would be merely seconds before the blond would turn around and walk back, destined to discover him. If he wanted to prevent it, Kaiba would have to make a run for it.

So as a last resort, he pushed himself away from the car and ran.

Or at least, he meant to. Actually he jumped back again the very next second in order to escape a car that came speeding down the road, honking angrily when noticing Kaiba.

Joey’s head swivelled around and the boy thought his heart was going to stop beating. Seeing that Kaiba had almost run into a car Joey dashed over to him.

“Kaiba, you stupid moron! Have you lost it?!” he yelled at the taller boy, letting his fists beat against Kaibas chest. “Owning enough money to buy the street, doesn’t mean the cars on it are gonna yield for you!”

“What?” Kaiba asked in a quiet daze.

“You almost got run over by a car!” Joey shouted at him.

Yeah, now that would be a nice straight ending to this whole thing, wouldn’t it? Kaiba thought, considering that all this had started with Mai’s car almost running him over, and then Mai soliciting him, she’d do Kaiba any favour if he just forgot about it.

Seto blinked, suddenly noticing something.

“You’re worried about me.” he stated, confused.

“Of course I am, you insensitive prick!” Joey yelled, still blaming Kaiba for his incautious behaviour.

You’re calling me insensitive, Wheeler?” the brown haired boy asked. “After howling out my name in the most disappointed way I can imagine in front of all of your annoying little friends?!”

For one second Joey caught a glimpse of the hurt look on Kaiba’s face. Seto immediately hid it behind his icy and detesting glare but it was too late. Joey knew.

He stepped closer until he was merely inches away from the other boy. Then he whispered mockingly into Kaiba’s ear. “And you never came across the thought that I might have been disappointed because those very friends of mine interrupted us?”

There was a second of complete silence.

Then, suddenly, Seto blinked and pretended not to be convinced. He simply didn’t react.

“Interrupted us when I really enjoyed what we were doing,” Joey added.

Kaiba lowered his eyes and smiled in defeat. When he looked up again Joey got to see the rarest and cutest look Kaiba had in store: a playful pout that said prove it.

Now Joey smiled and leaned into him, gently placing a kiss on Seto’s pouting lips.

The blond didn’t say anything but had a questioning look on his face when they parted again. “You know, Wheeler, “ Kaiba grinned, “I’m not convinced yet.”

“Tough cookie, huh?” Joey teased. Snuggling into Kaiba’s embrace he declared: “You know,
I’m a real good duelist. I’m trained in endurance.”

Whoohooo. That’s it. What do you think?
I know, there weren’t any real car crashs… but… “closets and almost car crashs” sounded so stupid… Think I have to change the title?
Oh yeah… I guess I was never this eager to read your reviews… *sighs*

Note #2: Okay, as I said, there is going to be another update. The second reason for that is, that I want to give you the chance to read some lemon, as some of you missed it so badly.
My idea is the following: This fic will be the start of a challenge, open to everyone. (I will also post this in the Yu-Gi-Oh challenge section). There won’t be any specific rules, basically everyone’s free to write whatever they want, as long as they keep it a sequel/prequel/alternate ending/ etc. to this story. If you want to participate, write your fics, post them on aff, and then just send me an email with your fic’s number or a link, I will post all the links on my update “chapter”.

Answering the reviews (still getting some… must be a good sign! :D)

Yukiko – lol… yeah, I know what you mean! Let’s undress Jou! And… do have to hand him over to Seto or can we keep him? ;-) Alright, alright… *reluctantly pushing him over towards Seto* …. At least he’s in good hands… Thanks for your review!

Ykarzel – Thank you so much for this review. It really meant a lot to me. And don’t worry. No bad sex here, see? Ok… no sex at all. But still… no BAD sex :-D

Reyn – Oh My! So many great ideas… maybe I should exchange my muse for you? I wish I had gotten those ideas earlier, then maybe this story would have been a little longer… But, maybe you wanna try out your ideas in a sequel to my story, or an alternative ending? I’d love to read that! Thanks for your review!

Jounouchi-Kaiba-Mokie – Thanks to you too! But… now I’m really curious about your opinion on Mai/Jou… tell me, come on!

Wär vielleicht ganz witzig gewesen...Danke jedenfalls für die review, freut mich, dass die Story dir gefällt! (und wir können auch wieder auf englisch schrieben, wenn dir das lieber ist ;-) )

YamiRynEnjeru – Thank you! And, yeah, he was mean often enough to deserve being down at least once… and he’ll treat Jou better, now that he knows how embarrassement feels, won’t he?

ShadowofLight – See what Joey did? He’s a good boy! Thanks for the mallet though, just in case he was hesitating. And thanks for the review!

Rachel Dracon – Yeah, Mai’s a good girl! I still like her a lot… Sorry about Seto being angsty… but in the end he gets what he deserves, doesn’t he? Thank you for the review!
