*Chapter 3: A Rude Awakening*

Three days had passed but they were unlike the 990 days that had gone by since Yami had left.
Yugi would normally stay up in his room playing with music, the computer, reading books, putting together jigsaw puzzles, etc..

But the last three days, he had been out of the house seeing one person in particular: Ramrik Senamoto.
He was a tall, slender man with sandy blond hair and crystal blue eyes. His muscle tone was slight but it was there. His smile was cheerful and perky and he spoke with a real sense of calmness about him.

However, no one really noticed. Everyone was too engulfed in preparing Yami’s arrival, and keeping it a secret, that they never fully become aware of Yugi’s frequent absences.
**

It was the fourth day. Yami was in his private jet on his way to Japan. How he couldn’t wait to get there. He had been waiting impatiently for hours and his butt was starting to cramp. He undid his seatbelt and walked around for a bit.
He strolled over to the cockpit and peaked his head in.

“Um, excuse me. How much longer will it be?”

“Oh, I’d say about twenty minutes or so, Mr. Moto.”

“Thank you.”
At that point, it took all his will power not to jump up and down and scream for pure joy.
He couldn’t wait to see his love. After so long. He was so devoted to Yugi that he never slept with another person in America. He didn’t even look at another person. Not one. His heart was Yugi’s; signed, sealed and delivered.

But, for some reason, he couldn’t make this queasiness in the pit of his stomach, like something wasn’t quite right, go away. He was hoping beyond hope that Yugi was alright and that these were just some nervous butterflies.

But still…
**

The plane landed and Yami was up and running down the terminal. He could see to the other side. He saw all of his friends.

“Yami!” Joey yelled.

Yami ran faster. He slammed into Joey’s arms and hugged him tight.

“Man, have we missed you!” said Malik.

“You sure are a good sight to see!” said Ryou.

Yami finally let Joey breath.

“Man, your grip sure has gotten strong, hasn’t it?”

“I guess so. It’s so good to see all of you again. Even my rivals.”
He looked over to Seto and the two other yamis.

“Hello, Pharaoh. It’s been a while,” said Bakura.

“Not a long enough while, if you ask me,” said Maundeunder his breath.

“Marik! Be nice!” said Malik.

“Hn.”

Yami walked up to Seto.

“Long time, no see,” said Seto as he held out his hand.

Yami shook it.
“Yes. How have you and Mokuba been?”

“Good. But, what you should be asking me is, ‘When’s our next duel’?”

Yami laughed. “Same old Kaiba. Some things never change.”
He turned to another.
“Duke. How’s the dice rolling?”

“Just fine on my part. But In was wondering, is Dungeon Dice Monsters popular in America?”

“Actually, yes. And surprisingly so. Anyone who duels rolls dice as well.
And how are things with you Tristan?”

“Oh, alright I guess. Hey, have you seen Tea yet?”

“Yes. I stopped in New York for a fuel up and met her for an hour. So far, things are going great with her too and she sends all her love.”

Yami then faced another friendly face.
“And Mai. Still as beautiful as when I left.”

“Oh, Yami. You flatter me. But you better watch out. Lover boy over thereai pai pointed her thumb toward Joey, “has been pretty protective of me these days.”

“Well, good thing my heart’s taken. Speaking of which, is everything set up?”

“Absolutely,” said Joey. “All we need now is our star actor.”
**

Yugi was sitting in class tacking notes and finishing his homework so he wouldn’t have any over the weekend.

The final bell rang. He stuffed his books in his locker and headed for the school exit.

“Hey, Yug!”

“Huh?” Yugi turned aroun see see Joey running at him.
“Hey Joey. What’s up?”

“Well, I was wondering what you were doing after school. I was hoping that we could hang at your place.”

“Oh, sorry, Joey. I already have plans.”

Joey’s eyes widened.
‘Already have plans? Since when does he have plans I don’t know about?’

“Really? With who?”

“That new guy I told you about a few days ago, Ramrik.”

“Oh, that’s a total bummer. I was really looking forward to going.”

“Sorry. Hey, I know! Why don’t you and the guys go over to my place and when I get home, we can all hang then. How’s that?”

“Mmm, okay. Sounds good.”

“‘Kay. Well, I gotta go. Don’t wanna be late. Bye”

Joey started walking in the opposite direction.
“Smell ya later!”
**

“Yami, you really should calm down,” said Solomon as he handed him a cup of tea.

“I know. But…it’s just so nerve wracking. I may have been a Pharaoh but I was a mighty impatient one.”

Solomon chuckled.

Mia came from down the hall and threw Yami a towel.
“Here, honey. Dry yourself off. You’re sweating like a pig on a grill.”

“That was the most perfect choice of words.”

“Now, now, Marik,” said Bakura. “What would Malik think if he heard you say that?” he asked in a mocking tone.

“Well, Malik isn’t here right now so I can say whatever the hell I want.”

The door to the shop opened and Yami was up in an instant and ran over to the door. He swung it wide open and looked out. He saw Joey and the others…but no Yugi.

He stood on his toes and peered over the crowd of friends.

When he didn’t see him he asked, “Well where is he?!”

“Calm down Yami,” said Ryou. “He’s not here.”

“What? Why?”

“Let us in and we’ll tell you,” said Malik.

“Oh, sorry.”
Yami stepped aside and let the others in and take a seat.

“So where’s Yugi?” asked Mai.

“Well, I met him after school,” said Joey, “and said that he already had plans.”

“Already had plans?” asked Yami.

“Yeah. But he said that he would be by later.”

Yami threw his hands in the air.
“Wonderful! Yet more waiting.”
**

“So, how was school?” asked Ramrik.

“Alright, I guess. Your’s?”

“Same.”

They were walking side by side around the park under the sakura trees.

Yugi sighed. “It sure is nice out here, isn’t it?”

“Yep. The blossoms here are striking.”

Yugi nodded in agreement.

They roamed for a bit longer and stopped for a light snack on their way to the pier where they watched the dolphins play.

Yugi laughed at a said statement.
“The ocean is so beautiful.”

Ramrik chuckled.
“I used to like watching the boats pass by. Fishing was my favorite pass time.”

“I love watching the sun rise over the water. It signalizes a new day with new beginnings.”

“That's true.”

Yugi looked up.

Ramrik smiled.
“New things start everyday.”
**

Yami again sighed for what seemed like the millionth time but this time with a slight growl.
“It’s five o’clock. He’s been out of school for three hours.”

“I wonder where he went,” said Duke.

Just then the door opened and closed.

“Grandpa! I’m home. Are the guys here yet?”

Yami’s breath caught in his throat. He hadn’t heard that voice in so damn long…it was brilliant to hear it again.
He slowly stood.

“We’re in here, Yugi,” called Solomon.

“Oh, good. I was wondering if they…”
Yugi stopped as he entered the room. The sight before him was shockingly surprising.

Yugi’s widened eyes locked with Yami’s as silence engulfed the room for what seemed like minutes.

Just silence.

“Yugi…” started Yami,. “It’s been a long time."

Yugi didn’t answer or even move.

“I…I was hoping that you could forgive me for leaving. It was a mistake and I’m sorry. I hope we can just…kind of pick up where we left off…”

Again Yugi didn’t move.

“Yugi?” asked Duke as he reached out to touch his shoulder.

At the touch, Yugi fell to his knees then his chest.

They all sweat dropped.

“He fainted?” asked Ryou.

Malik sighed. “I wonder how much he heard.”

Yami walked over and picked him up. He walked up to Yugi’s room and placed Yugi on the bed covering him with the sheets.

Yami looked into Yugi’s face as he brushed a golden bang.
He leaned over and placed a kiss on Yugi’s forehead before leaving.
**

“Well,” said Bakura, “So much for Yami sweeping him off his feet. You think he was conscious long enough to get the point?”

“I doubt it,” said Yami coming down the stairs.

“He was more surprised than I thought he would be,” said Malik.

“What should we do now?” asked Tristan.

“I guess we’ll have to wait till he wakes up and try again,” said Joey.
**

*three hours later (8:00)*

Yugi opened his eyes and sat up.

“What happened? Why am I in my room?”

He tried to remember as a flash of Yami passed his eyes.

He shook his head.
“I must have blacked out and took a nap or something. Oh well. Better see if the guys are still here.”

He stood and wondered down stairs.

*meanwhile…*

Yami was sitting with a cup of coffee in hand. The others were in the room as well but were all silent.

“Grandpa?” called Yugi coming down the stairs.

All heads picked up.

Yugi was rubbing his eyes.
“I had the strangest dream. I cam home and I saw…”

Yugi reached the bottom and again saw Yami and again he stared wide eyed.

“Y…Yami?” he whispered.

“Yes,” he answered. “Are you…feeling better?”
Yami felt a tad bit uneasy as he stood there across from his love.

Yugi cast his eyes downwards breathing a little hard as his heart sped up.

“Yugi, listen. I know what I did was wrong and I apologize for it. Deeply apologize. I missed you so much but…some things were complicated and I couldn’t come see you until now. I was hoping that we could pick up where we left off and…”

“You bastard,” Yugi whispered.

Yami gasped. “Huh?”

“You son of a bitch.” Yugi lifted his head to reveal his streaming tears.
“You come back now and just want to start over just like that?
YOU GOD DAMN SON OF A BITCH!!”

Yami and the other’s eyes went as wide as they could possibly go.

“FIRST YOU LOVE ME, THEN YOU LEAVE ME! NOW YOU’RE BACK AND YOU JUST EXPECT ME TO FORGIVE AND FORGET?!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW LONG I CRIED OVER YOU?! TWO MONTHS! TWO GOD DAMNED MONTHS!! I’LL BET YOU DIDN’T HAVE ONE OUNCE OF GUILT, DID YOU? DID YOU?!!!!”

Yami wasn’t able to speak and his mouth was gaping.

“I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD SINK THIS LOW! I HATE YOU, YAMI! I HATE YOU!! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!…JUST GET OUT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!”

Yugi ran out the door.

Solomon was just walking up, arms full of groceries, when Yugi ran out in tears.

“Yugi? Yugi, what’s wrong?”

Yugi didn’t answer and just ran past him into the night.

“Oh dear. I wonder what happened.”

“By the gods,” said Bakura.

Yami collapsed into the chair directly behind him still completely shocked by the scene that had just occurred.

“What have I done?”

He put his head in his hands as his tears started to flow.
