Chapter 4
Disclaimer: Past caring. Read the other parts.
Warnings: Again, go read the other parts because I'm too lazy to type them all out again.
Author: Koneko Shido
A/N: Well, that's two murders done in three chapters, I think it's about time for a little plot. Back to Ryou, our cute little hikari!
Added Note: I don't know if they're called the same thing in America, so CCTV cameras are just normal surveillance cameras.
Dark Light 4
Ryou sat on his own on the living room floor, hugging his knees to his chest as he thought about everything that had happened that day. Outside the sky was beginning to darken and the room was lit by a single lamp in the corner, the radio playing almost too quietly to hear.
His first thought had been that it all must be some sort of mistake, and that sat well. Until, that is, the police showed him the frozen images from the CCTV cameras that had shown the murderer entering the alleyway where the young man had been killed. It wasn't just that the person on the screen looked like him, it was that the murderer looked *exactly* like him. Perhaps his eyes had been a little colder, but otherwise the resemblance was uncanny. And that was what made Ryou think. The fingerprints hadn't matched so the police had had to release him, telling him not to leave town. But could those prints have been unrelated to the murder? What if they were put there by someone who had nothing to do with anything? Just some random person?
Ryou stood up and padded over to the door to the library, letting it click closed behind him as he entered and searched for a particular book under 'S'. He'd been home all night... hadn't he? The truth was, now that he thought seriously about it without all those detectives shouting things at him, he really couldn't be sure. He'd been watching television and picking the topping off a pizza he'd bought, then he'd fallen asleep. So could he have gone out afterwards, and not known it? Of course, he'd never heard of anyone sleep-murdering, and he had no history of walking in his sleep, but there were other explanations. The CCTV footage of thrderrderer just looked *too* much like him for it to be pure coincidence.
Reaching up as he found what he was looking for, Ryou pulled down a heavy book and laid it on the small table, settling down in the armchair next to it to read.
Split Personality Disorder, or Schizophrenia. Apparently, the book told him, a person could have two distinct personalities, ane cne could remain in the background, but take over occasionally. At these times, the weaker personality would have no memory of what the more dominant side had done, and more often than not a person suffering from the disorder would have no idea that anything out of the ordinary was wrong with them.
Ryou closed the book and shivered, pulling his knees up to his chest again. The thought that he could have really been the one to commit all those murders terrified him, and he decided that he would have to find out for sure, from someone who knew what they were talking about.
Getting up from the chair, Ryou left the book on the table and went back to the living room to find the phone number for his father's doctor.

(Bakura's POV)
Now where could Ryou be? Hmm... Not here. Probably off with his idiot friends relating the terrors of the day he's just been through and revelling in the sympathy. That's what I'd be doing. Well, actually I'd probably just lock them all in the Game shop and burn it down, but that's just me. WHY do none of them have pets I can kill? I wish Tea had a cat, or a dog or something. Then I could skin it and hang it up outside her house. The only reason I haven't killed her yet is because Ryou claims to like her. Of course, I don't believe a word of it, how could anyone like that cheerleader witch? I'll probably let Ryou kill her once I've taught him the error of his ways and bought him over to my point of view.
Now what shall I do? I could go out and kill someone else, but I can't really be bothered.
Hmm. Now what's this? A book on *what*? Hahahah!! I've made Ryou think he has a multiple personality disorder?! He must have seen a picture of me or something, I do look remarkably like him. It's something to do with the link we have with each other, I think. I could, if I wanted, take over his body, but why bother when I have my own? And if I did that, it would leave his fingerprints at all my murders and he'd get all the credit for my hard work.
Stalking back into the living room I look around a bit and inevitably find the address of the doctor Ryou has gone to see, scribbled on a notepad by the telephone. It's my understanding that the doctor will probably try and see if Ryou has this disease by trying to talk to the 'evil' half, right? So I think it's time to make an appearance. They can't have all that fun without me. Of course, that doctor is going to have to die. And I'll have to leave a few fingerprints to prove that it wasn't Ryou again. I must remember to do that.
So Ryou's finally going to get to meet me. I wonder what he'll say? Heheheh.
TBC
No, Ryou doesn't actually have a split personality, he just thinks he might. There, I told you it had a plot, didn't I?
Review, pleeeease?
