chapter four
Shadow: back with next chapter! Oh and if any of you were wondering if Anzu was Yugi’s friend the answer is a no. She tolerates him and only befriends him because she has him wrapped around her finger she thinks he’s pretty geeky so when Yami’s around, she shows her true nature and acts like she hates him. Hope that clears it up ^_^ Now that that is said, read, enjoy, and don’t forget to REVIEW!!!

Yugi walked silently with Yami and Anzu down the snow powdered sidewalks on his way home from school. Currently, Anzu was clinging to the taller boy’s arm, making sure they were ahead of the small boy.
“So Anzu,” Yugi cried, running ahead to catch up to them.
Yami took the opportunity, as the brunette was sidetracked, to wrench his arm free and move to the other side of the three so Yugi was now in the middle.
“Are you confident about how today’s try outs went?” the small one asked.
Anzu grinned, nodding, “I was practicing all night the other day top prepare! I can’t wait to hear the results! I know I’m so going to get the lead anyways but its fun to see those people’s faces who didn’t get it,” she giggled, tossing her hair to the side. “I can’t wait to see how crumbled Shizuka looks!” she snickered.
Yugi smiled, “well it’s a good thing you’re confident in yourself then! The more confidence you hold, the better performance you put on.”
Yami raised an eyebrow. //Confidence?! That is not confidence that is call being arrogant!// he yelled in his mind. //it surprises me how so self-absorbed this girl is.// he thought. “What did you try out for, Anzu?”
“You mean what lead am I for sure, without a doubt getting?”
The tall boy was disgusted at how conceited she sounded. //If only she could hear herself speak...though I doubt that would change her any.// Still he nodded, “yes,” he said.
The brunette smirked, “the lead singer for our Choir recital’s main song. I’m usually the lead singer for every song, but for some reason Shiro-sensei said she would be holding try-outs for this song.” The girl paused and laughed to herself, “she said it might be out of my voice range, can you believe that?”
Yami chuckled, “well I have never heard you sing before,” he answered truthfully.
Yugi beamed up at Anzu, and then turned to stare at Yami, “she has a beautiful voice,” he breathed out.
The red eyed teen almost laughed out loud. He could practically see the hearts in Yugi’s eyes as he said that last sentence. //He really seems to like her. Too bad he doesn’t know her true face. If only his innocence didn’t blind him so; then maybe he would not face an inevitable heartbreak in the end//
The three walked past many shops on their long trail home from school. Anzu waved as she reached her street, departing and leaving the other two on their journey home. Christmas music played through the loud speakers inside the open doored stores. Yugi giggled, clapping his hands as he heard one of his favorite Christmas tunes. He twirled around in a circle, singing along to the song as he did so.
“Here comes Santa Claus! Here comes Santa Claus! Right down Santa Claus Lane! Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer are pulling on the reins!*” The small boy sang while laughing.
The tiny teen reached out and took Yami’s hands in his own, twirling both of them around in a circle, “Bells are ringing, children singing; all is merry and bright. Hang your stockings and say your prayers, 'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!” Yugi looked up into red orbs, “come on! Sing, Yami!”
The taller cleared his throat, “I-uh-I can’t sing...that’s okay you keep singing,” he exclaimed. //His voice is beautiful if anyone’s.//
The violet eyed youth shrugged, “you’re no fun Yami!” He picked up some snow from the ground and fluffed it in the taller’s face as he laughed and continued to sing the song, “Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle, What a beautiful sight. Jump in bed; cover up your head,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!” He finished off the song.
Yami clapped his hands, seeing Yugi do a mock-bow. //He doesn’t know how well he sings, I bet.//
The two boys turned down Yugi’s street.
Yugi giggled again before throwing another snowball with another snowball.
“Hey–Yugi–That’s no fair!” He yelled, running and tackling the teen to the ground, “this should teach you,” he chided, stuffing snow down the boy’s jacket.
Yugi screamed as the freezing snow slithered down his bare chest. He squirmed underneath Yami, breaking free and quickly removing his jacket and shirt in order to get the snow off of him. He looked at his now wet clothes, then to Yami before pouting, “th-thanks a-a l-lot!” he stuttered, teeth, chattering from the cold wind that bagaiagainst his torso. He shivered, hugging himself.
Yami’s eyes softened as he saw how cold Yugi was, “I-I’m sorry,” he whispered sincerely. He removed his black leather coat, putting it over the boy to warm him. “There, better?”
The violet eyed teen eagerly wrapped the jacket around his small frame, sighing as warmth touched his skin and heated it up. He blushed lightly, picking up the scent of spices and pumpkin from the coat. He looked down at the ground where he dropped his shirt and coat. “Whoops. Now they’re really wet.”
Yami smiled, wrapping his arms around himself to keep warmer, “I think that’s enough snowball fights for right now,” he exclaimed.
The small boy shook his head, laughing, “Nah; I still have to get you back!!” he yelled, taking snow in his hands, lifting up Yami’s grey sweater, and smearing the frozen flakes over the tanned skin.
Yami shivered, not just from the cold of the snow, either. The light touch of the boy’s hand on his skin sent tingles through his body. He did not know why he was reacting this way. Could it be that he liked the smaller boy? The tall boy knew and openly admitted to being bisexual...he had had boyfriends in the past, so liking another male was not uncommon to him. But...he had only known the little one for what, not even two days? It was odd that he felt this way after so little time.
Yugi giggled, pulling his hand away and running further down the street, Yami’s jacket still wrapped tightly around him and reaching down to his knees. He turned and waved at the taller, “catch me if you can!”
Yami rolled his eyes, grinning and picking up speed, following the other boy down the sidewalk, “you can’t outrun me, Yugi!”
~~~`
Yugi and Yami had raced all the way to the Kame Game Shop, where the short boy lived. Yami, inevitably, had caught Yugi and beat the game. After they reached the shop/apartment, the petite teen hfferffered the taller boy to come in and dry off a bit.
“You sure it’s okay with your grandfather?”
Yugi nodded, “absolutely...actually, he’ll probably be thrilled! I’ve never had anyone come over before besides Anzu, and even she hasn’t asked to come over in a few months.”
Yami nodded, “alright as long as I’m not imposing.”
The violet eyed youth shook his head, “you’re not imposing the least bit! Here I’m going to put your jacket in the wash, okay? I mean, I’m sure you don’t want it smelling and being dirtied by me,” he explained. When Yami agreed, he scampered into a different room and put his as well as the taller’s coats inside the washing machine. He then walked back inside the foyer where Yami still stood.
“You can make yourself comfortable, Yami,” he told the other. “I don’t want you thinking you can’t move or touch anything. Um...the living room is just around the corner if you want to sit down and-and the kitchen is right there if you want to get yourself something to eat.” He turned and walked to the stairs, “I’m just going to get changed first, alright?”
“Okay.”
Yugi disappeared up the stairwell and a door clicked shut. The small boy walked over to his closet and pulled out a pastel green sweatshirt that had a red, blue, and white Christmas light stitched on the center. He then changed his blue school uniform pants to dark green sweat pants. Once dressed again, he walked downstairs.
Yami was staring out the window, hands folded across his chest. The small teen approached silently. Once he stood directly next to the taller boy he pressed his face up against the glass and blew onto the glass, creating an area of moisture where his breath hit. He giggled, writing the taller’s name in the damp area. Red orbs looked down, seeing what the boy was doing. A smile spread across Yami’s face as he laughed, “What in the name of Ra are you doing?” he questioned.
“Look its fun!” Yugi blew on the glass again before pulling away and drawing a Christmas tree with his little finger.
“What’s the point?”
Yugi shrugged, “There doesn’t have to be a point for everything. I just do it because I think its fun.” He paused to chuckled, “grandpa gets angry at me when he catches me doing it. He says it ruins the glass and then he makes me clean the windows. But I don’t care, I do it anyways!”
Yami smiled lightly before turning away from the window. He still couldn’t belief how childish the small one acted. Yugi walked over and stood next to him, after rubbing away the wetness from the window to dispose of the evidence. “What do you want to do?” he asked.
“I don’t know, you decide. It’s your house.”
Yugi shrugged okay, “do you play Duel Monsters at all?”
The taller’s eyes lit up, “I love that game,” he stated, reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a deck of cards, He lifted the top card, showing it off to the smaller teen, “this one is my favorite, the rare Black Magician.”
The violet eyed youth stared at the card in awe, “I have a card like that, only mine is the Black Magician Girl.” (Shadow: ^^; I am going to have only one of them have a black magician card,)
“Really? I didn’t think such a card existed.”
Yugi nodded, walking over to his backpack and pulling out his own card pack. He took the top card off, revealing the female magician he was talking about. He handed it to Yami, “it’s very rare as well.”
“I see.” Yami thought a moment, “Do you read up on the Duel Monsters storyline at all?”
The petite one nodded, “Yeah I’ve read all the information and have several books. They say that Ancient Egyptians played the game for power and wealth. Back then, the cards were real living, breathing creatures that roamed the streets of Egypt like normal citizens. The most powerful Magician of all the beasts was the Black Magician, who was emperor to the Nameless Pharaoh who sealed away the magics when they became too controlling. Anyway, the Black Magician had a student who also became his lover later on. They were torn apart when the Nameless Pharaoh had to seal all the creatures into stone tablets.”
The scarlet eyed teen nodded, “that’s correct. Black Magician and his student did love each other.” He held the cards together, side by side, “such a shame they were torn apart, ne?”
“Yeah...true love should never have to die. The book I have also says, according to legend, that when played in a duel against each other, they will not attack the other because the great bond they share will not allow one to be destroyed without the other there beside it when it happens.”
The small boy walked into the living room, motioning for Yami to come along. Once there, they set up a duel board and began to play. Yami beat Yugi before he had a chance to even lay his prized card on the field.
The small one frowned, looking over his cards and try to reanalyze his strategy to see how it could have gone wrong. He bit his tongue, shifting through the cards in his hand and also scanning the ones that still lay on the board.
Yami stood up, walking over and behind the shorter one. He sat back down and leaned over Yugi’s shoulders. Opening his mouth, he said: “if you had placed Mystical Elf face up on the field before you ended your turn you could have activated her special ability and allowed your light monster to gain and extra five hundred points. This would have made your Angel of Light card’s strength exceed the attack force of my powered up Celtic Guardian and won you the game,” he elucidated more to himself than the other boy.
Yugi raised his head upward, “wow you really are good.
Yami smirked, “of course. I was International Champion back in Egypt,” he replied.
The small teen’s eyes widened, “whoa...” He then stood and collected his cards, “well good game then I guess.”
“Yes, it was a close match. One of the more difficult ones I’ve been in. You should sign up for any tournaments Domino hosts. ” The shorter nodded in agreement.
They were silent for a moment. The snow fell heavier then before, and large gusts of winds beat against the windows, howling through the pre-dusk air. Yugi looked up at Yami, “do you want some hot chocolate or anything? It doesn’t look like you should be going out anytime soon, judging by the weather we’re getting. We can just watch a movie or sit by the fire if you like,” he suggested.
The crimson eyed youth nodded, “that would be nice.”
The smaller boy scampered into the kitchen and set a pot on the stove. “This is the real way to make hot cocoa” he yelled from the other room. He poured milk into the pot and heated the top of the stove. After a few minutes, the milk was nice and hot and Yugi took out several tiny boxes, “Yami what flavor do you want? Caramel chocolate, white chocolate, mint chocolate, or regular?”
Yami thought a moment, “I—uh...it really doesn’t matter to me, Yugi,” he said.
“Alright—Caramel chocolate it is!!”
The tall one chuckled, shaking his head and situating himself on the couch in front of a small brick fireplace.
In the kitchen, Yugi added the cream colored powder mix into to heated milk. He stirred it carefully for another minute before turning the stove off and pouring the flavored hot cocoa into two large mugs. After placing the pot in the skink, he carefully picked up the steaming mugs and walking into the living room.
Yami looked up, seeing the smaller approach. He stood and took his cup, walking back over and sitting on the sofa once more. Yugi joined him after starting up a small fire. He sipped the caramel chocolate drink and hummed happily in his throat as the liquid warmed up his insides. He shivered still as the cold air outside seeped through the thin walls of the house. Yami noticed this and took the blanket hanging over the back of the couch; placing it around the two of them.
Yugi blushed, “th-thank you.”
Yami winked, bonking the smaller on the nose playfully. The violet eyed teen giggled and scooted a little closer to Yami. He took another sp of his drink, smiling and grinning up at the taller, “I’m glad you stayed here with me for the while. It’s nice to have company over.”
The taller grinned; nodding as he pet the boy’s hair, guiding the smaller’s head onto his shoulder. Yugi was unsure whether to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. He ended up being neither as he snuggled closer to the warm body, sighing in content and feeling very, very comfortable.
The two drank together in silence, both calmed and cozy in the other’s presence. The short boy looked over at the Christmas tree that sat not too far away in its stand; lights glimmering happily in the darkening room. A few gifts sat under the tree, tempting their recipients to shake them and try and guess what was hidden underneath their colorful wrappings.
//I wants to get Yami a present...only I am not sure what to buy him. I have known him for such a short period of time that it is hard to tell what he would like.//
The taller male was having similar thoughts; //I would like to give Yugi a Christmas gift. But what would someone like him want? I am just happy being around him; he brightens up my day and is always so innocent and cheerful. I know he does not think the same, so a material item is what I must get him.//
After a half an hour of sitting with each other, talking ever so often and thinking of private things to themselves, and finishing every drop of the hot cocoa, Yami stood up, declaring that he had to go home.
“Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow then, I suppose?”
Yami nodded, and watched Yugi go into the washing room to retrieve the taller’s leather coat, “see you later. And...thanks for staying over.”
“It was fun. We should do it again soon.”
Yugi nodded enthusiastically, wrapping his arms around Yami’s middle in a warm embrace before pulling away and opening the door for him, “bye! See you tomorrow! Bye!”
Yami chuckled waving, “bye!” and with that, he put his coat on and left the home, walking down the snow covered streets once more.
The short boy closed the door after the other left. He leaned against it heavily, putting a hand to his hammering heart, //what is he making me feel?// he wondered. Shaking his head, he walked back into the living room, lying on the couch and burying his face on the pillows, picking up the spicy scent that belonged only to Yami.
I am just happy being around him; he brightens up my day and is always so innocent and cheerful. I know he does not think the same, so a material item is what I must get him.//
After a half an hour of sitting with each other, talking ever so often and thinking of private things to themselves, and finishing every drop of the hot cocoa, Yami stood up, declaring that he had to go home.
“Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow then, I suppose?”
Yami nodded, and watched Yugi go into the washing room to retrieve the taller’s leather coat, “see you later. And...thanks for staying over.”
“It was fun. We should do it again soon.”
Yugi nodded enthusiastically, wrapping his arms around Yami’s middle in a warm embrace before pulling away and opening the door for him, “bye! See you tomorrow! Bye!”
Yami chuckled waving, “bye!” and with that, he put his coat on and left the home, walking down the snow covered streets once more.
The short boy closed the door after the other left. He leaned against it heavily, putting a hand to his hammering heart, //what is he making me feel?// he wondered. Shaking his head, he walked back into the living room, lying on the couch and burying his face on the pillows, picking up the spicy scent that belonged only to Yami.
