The Viking Brothers

Chapter 40: The Final Battle Part II

Last time we left our hero......

“Looks like I win again, dear nephew!” Yami looked up at his uncle with a glare.

“Treacherous men like you never win!” The sword tip went under his chin and lifted his head back.

“Watch that tongue of yours before I cut it out and feed it to my dogs.” Yami showed no fear as he was held at sword point.

“This is not over yet, Pegasus! Even if I don’t get the chance to kill you, my men will! Your evil reign will die soon enough!”

“I’ve had enough of your words, Yami! With your death, followed by the deaths of your brothers, I will control all the Bolverk lands and castles! I will reign supreme!” He smirked evilly at Yami. “Say hello to your father for me!”

“YAMI!!” After hearing his name, both men turned to see where it came from. All Yami saw was Keith and Duke on the ground floor, and sword coming his way through the air. Yami caught the sword and with lighting speed, he rammed it strait through Pegasus’s chest, piercing his heart. Pegasus stood, frozen as blood started to leak out the corner of his mouth. Yami shoved the sword farther inside, making sure only the hilt was sticking out. Pegasus staggered back a bit and Yami sent his foot into his uncle’s mid section, kicking him down the stairs. Pegasus landed and the bottom of the steps, dead.

“You did it Yami!” Duke shouted happily from his spot on Keith’s shoulder. Yami jumped down from the steps, walking over to the two.

“Was it you who threw the sword?” Yami asked his cousin calmly and Keith nodded. “Why? I thought you were on Pegasus’s side.”

“I was, until that last battle where he left my army all alone. He turned his back on me and my army. All my men have died fighting for his ambition! I went back to him in hopes of getting revenge! After this bitch nearly blinded me,” He pinched Duke’s leg and he let out a yelp. “I had to go somewhere, so I went crawling back to Pegasus, playing the poor, wounded warrior.” He looked at Pegasus’s lifeless body. “Now we both have had our revenge.” Yami looked over his shoulder at the body and nodded.

“Our deceased family members can now rest in peace knowing their murderer is breathed his last. Odin was truly on our side in this fight.” Duke cleared his throat.

“Yami, I think you owe this behemoth an apology.”

“Never mind all that now!” Keith said. “Yami, your home is in danger!” Yami looked at him with concern.

“What do you mean?!”

“Pegasus sent a small army of his men to your castle yesterday! He got word that you were planning to attack!” Yami gasped

“Oh gods above, Yugi!!” Before he could flip out, Yami took a deep breath and tried to keep his mind calm. “Go report this to Seto and tell him to move his troops out! I’ll gather the rest of my men and meet up with them!!” Yami ordered him and Keith left to do just that, still carrying Duke over his shoulder. Yami looked up and said a silent prayer to Odin to protect Yugi and his friends.

Outside Pegasus’s castle

“Say what?!” Said Seto, Malik, and Tristan as they heard the news from Keith. Keith had come to them with the news, setting Duke down who ran over to Tristan.

“It’s true! Pegasus sent a small army of his men off yesterday to attack Yami’s castle! Yami wants you to start heading back for the castle right now!” Seto was just about to shout his orders when Malik spoke first.

“Hey wait, how do we know you’re not lying to us!?” Malik gave him the evil eye.

“There’s no time for that!” Keith hissed at him. “I came here on Yami’s orders! I’m not longer on Pegasus’s side! Pegasus is dead! Yami has killed him!”

“There’s some good news!” Seto said “What about Yami and the others?”

“Yami is gathering up his men in the castle and will follow you shortly. He wants you to head out first.”

“Should we trust him, Seto?” Malik asked.

“We have no choice!” Seto told him. “Listen, Yami’s men are already blowing the horn of victory!”

“Why the change of heart, Keith?” Malik asked.

“Never mind all that!” Keith hissed at him. “Just get moving! Fast!”

“We’ll explain later!” Duke told him.

“MOVE OUT!!” Seto gave his order, turning his horse around. “Come on everyone! Move!!”

Back at the castle....

Jou’s Room:

“I want the hem a tad bit shorter, Ryou.” Jou told his friend from his spot on the stool. Ryou had to hang his head to hide his angry sneer. Jou may be his friend, but Ryou wanted to stab him with the needle at the moment. When Ryou showed him the wedding outfit Jou quickly rejected it, his reason was that the color was wrong. He had a change in taste and he wanted silk instead of regular cloth. So Ryou had to make the outfit all over again and he was not the least bit happy about it.

“Is that okay?” Ryou asked in a forced, gentle voice.

“No no, that’s too short. A bit lower.” Ryou felt the sudden urge to bite Jou’s ankle. He was in the perfect position to do so too.

“I think the hem is fine where it is, Jou.” Yugi said with a happy smile as he was rocking Annar to sleep in his arms.

“No, it has to be perfect! My wedding day is coming up and I want everything to be just right!” Yugi chuckled.

“But you’re driving poor Ryou crazy with your demands!” Jou put his hands on his hips.

“What can I say, I’m particular.” He smiled. “Just think, in a few more days I’ll be ‘Lady Jou’! Along with ‘Lady Malik’, of course. Malik told me that they’ll be getting married the same day as us, but we get to go first because Seto and I have known each other longer!” Yugi suddenly glared at him, then cast his eyes down on Ryou. Jou understood what Yugi was trying to tell him and he slapped a hand to his face.

“No, it’s alright you guys.” Ryou said, catching on to Yugi’s warning glare. “It doesn’t bother me anymore.” He smiled happily, hoping they would fall for it. If there’s one thing he didn’t need right now it’s the “there, there, Ryou, it’ll be okay” shit. Jou let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh good! I don’t want you to be mad at me. Just remember that you’re not the only one who’s still not married. Duke and Tristan aren’t, and I doubt they will anytime soon. Duke’s not the marrying type anyway.” Ryou was just about to bite Jou’s ankle when there was a knock on the door.

“Who is it?” Yugi called to the door.

“It’s me.” Came Mokuba’s voice through the wood. “Can I come in?”

“Of course you can.” Yugi said and Mokuba entered the room with Beowulf in tow.

“Yugi, one of the men came back from the hunting party and says he has something very important to tell you! He looks like he’s just seen a ghost!”

“Lets go see, Jou.” Yugi said and handed Annar to Ryou. “Here, you take care of Annar.” Jou quickly stripped himself of his wedding attire and followed the two out of the room. Ryou sighed and hung his head. He is truly being treated as a servant. He had hoped his friends wouldn’t think of him in that wa-...wait, what was that? Ryou noticed a large tear in the seam of Jou’s wedding outfit and his cheeks puffed out in anger.

“Damn it! I never get a break!” Just as he bent down to pick it up, Beowulf came over and suddenly plopped himself down on it. “Oh no! Move you stupid deer!!” He said as he tried tugging at the fabric. Beowulf just looked up at him and wagged his tail. Ryou shook the fabric again, hoping to usher the deer off. “Get off right now!!” There suddenly came a loud *riiiiiiip* as all his pulling tore the fabric even more. Ryou growled low under his breath, debating on who he should kill first: Jou or Beowulf? It was hard to choose....oh, who was he kidding! He wasn’t going to stay here like a common servant! Bakura wasn’t here and neither was Yami, so he can disobey orders here and there! He held Annar tight as he hurried out of the room to join his friends in the courtroom.

Meanwhile, down in the courtroom:

“What is this ‘important thing’ you have to tell us?” Yugi asked the huntsman from Yami’s seat up on the dais. Jou was standing next to him.

“When I was out on the hunt, I saw a small band of Viking warriors heading in our direction! I overheard them say Pegasus’s name and that they were heading here to attack!” Yugi gasped and looked at Jou who was equally worried.

“How far are they?” Jou asked the man.

“They should be here by tomorrow morning if they don’t stop to make camp for the night. If they do, then we can expect them sometime in the afternoon.” One of the guards Yami kept home hurried up the dais steps to Yugi.

“What are your plans of actions, sir?” The guard asked.

“We fight!” Jou looked down at Yugi in surprise.

“But Yugi, we don’t have enough men here to hold off an army!!” Jou tried to reason with him. “We mostly have servants!”

“As long as we pull up the drawbridge, it’ll be harder for them to storm the castle.”

“Yeah, but that won’t hold them back. They could storm the castle walls with ladders and ropes if they needed to. Pulling up the drawbridge will only hold them back so much.” Jou looked at the guard next to Yugi. “How many of you did Yami leave behind.”

“15, Jou sir.” Jou sighed.

“That won’t be enough...”

“But remember Jou,” Yugi started. “Not all the servants here know how to use weapons either. Maybe we could have all the guards Yami left go up to the top of the castle and fire arrows.”

“That can work,” Jou agreed “But it still won’t be enough.” He turned to the huntsman. “Just how many were there? Can you give an estimate?”

“There weren’t that many of them. I guess you could say around a hundred or so? Maybe a bit more.”

“That’s not too bad.” The guard said. “Lady Yugi, are you sure the servants don’t know how to use any weapons?” Yugi shook his head.

“I don’t know for sure....but what can we use as a weapon that doesn’t take any skill?” Yugi thought out loud.

“Rocks?” Mokuba offered.

“That’s a good idea, Mokuba!” Yugi said. “We can gather rocks from that ravine in the woods.”

“We need more than that.” Jou said.

“Pour boiling hot water on them.” They turned to see Ryou coming up the dais steps still holding Annar. “I heard what’s going on and I say we pour hot water on them. All we have to do is just set up all the pots and cauldrons we have on the top of the castle and have a fire going on underneath. Then all you do is pour it when they get in range.”

“That would work,” Yugi said “But that’s almost like torture. I really don’t want to hurt anybody if I can...” Jou put a hand on his shoulder.

“Remember Yugi, these men would not hesitate to kill Yami if they had the opportunity to do so. I know you don’t want anyone to die or get hurt, but it is necessary for us to protect this castle.” Yugi nodded.

“I know Jou...but arrows, rocks, and water can only go so far. Anyone else have any more ideas?” Mokuba pulled on Yugi’s tunic sleeve. “Yes Mokuba?”

“I have another idea!! Seto is REALLY good with mixing herbs and medicines and things like that! I remember one time when I was in his study I saw a bottle labeled “Sleeping Powder”. Maybe if we make enough of that stuff, we can set it out on the warriors and they will all go to sleep!!”

“That’s the second great idea you gave us today, Mokuba!” Yugi said happily, ruffling his hair. Jou tapped Mokuba on the shoulder to get his attention.

“Is it that stuff he used on you that night when you couldn’t sleep?” Mokuba nodded.

“Yeah, all I had to do was sniff it and I went right to sleep! It was like a smelling salt or something.” Yugi clapped his hands together happily.

“This is perfect!! Mokuba, you go and get this powder and find the formula for it. Make as much of it as you can or find others to help you make it. I’m putting you in charge of that.” Mokuba nodded.

“Yes sir!!” He jumped off the dais and ran out of the courtroom.

“Jou, I want you to guide some of the men and servants out to gather rocks. Ryou, since the boiling water was your idea, I’m putting you in charge of it.” Ryou nodded.

“Say Yugi,” Jou started. “After we put them to sleep, then what? The stuff might wear off and then we’ll be right back where we started!”

“Um...” The guard put his hand on Yugi’s shoulder.

“Don’t worry, Lady Yugi.” He said. “Once they are asleep, the men and I will take care of them.”

“How?” Yugi asked.

“Their deaths will be quick, simple, and painless I promise you.” Yugi nodded.

“Alright, I leave that up to you then, good sir.” The guard bowed. “As for the rest of you, spread the word and lets get hopping! We have a castle to defend!!”

The next morning, all the guards and servants armed themselves with whatever they could. They gathered at the top of the castle, peering over the wall. Ryou was busy counting the buckets and pots filled with boiling hot water. Mokuba was stacking up the rocks in the middle and the sleeping powder sacks next to them. Jou was taking care of the arrows, helping some of the guards carry the bundles. Everyone was prepared and in their spot, now all they had to do was wait.

“Do you see anything, Jou?” Yugi asked, holding a whining Annar.

“Nope. All quiet on the western front.” (Lol!! Little joke, very little) He looked at Yugi. “Nervous?” Yugi nodded.

“I hope we can pull this off.”

“We can only do our best, Yugi. But I think we have a pretty good chance.”

“What’s our battle plan?” Yugi asked, bouncing Annar in his arms.

“First, we use the sleeping powder. The breeze is gentle and it should carry easily. After that, if there are still some, we use the arrows. By then, if some are still running around, we resort to the rocks and water. I have all the warriors ready with arrows and the servants with everything else. I have to admit, though, these tactics are lame.”

“But effective.” Yugi answered him. “Remember Jou, we are working with so little.” Jou nodded.

“Lets hope Odin is on our side.”

“And God.” Jou smiled.

“And God. Although, God wouldn’t help in a battle. Killing is a sin, but Odin on the other hand, does aid in battles. We should put most of our faith in him.”

“Odin will lead our castle to victory and God will watch over our lives.” Jou let out a laugh.

“You’re right, Yugi. After hearing your words, I know we can win this fight!” Yugi smiled happily.

“Then lets do our best!”

“My lord Jou!” Came a shout from one of the warriors “The enemy is approaching!” The two turned their heads to look out over the wall, seeing a large army coming from the woods. Yugi felt a wave of fear wash over him, but he had to be strong! He had to swallow that fear and defend his home, family and friends. If Yami was here, he would be doing the same thing!

Out in the field

“Sir, we wait your command!” Said a young Viking with blonde hair. The leader, an older man with brown hair and a bread sat atop his horse.

“The castle seems defenseless....well, they shouldn’t be much trouble anyway.” He said with a wave of his hand. “There are only boy whores and servants in that castle, so send the first unit out.” The blonde Viking nodded and shouted the order for the first unit to attack.

Back at the castle

“Mokuba! Ready the powder!” Yugi shouted his order and Mokuba followed it, gathering up some of the servants. Each one grabbed a sack of powder and ran over the wall, standing next to the warriors. The army stood still for a few minutes, then the first unit started to charge. Yugi looked at Jou who had his hand up, ready to signal the powder. The war cries of the warriors were coming closer and Yugi felt that same fear wash over him again. He held Annar tight, shaking slightly. Mokuba shrieked and ran to Ryou to for support.

“Steady...” Jou said, eyeing the distance of the warriors carefully. When the warriors were close enough in range, Jou gave the order. “NOW!” The servants untied the sacks and dumped out the powder, letting the breeze take it out into the field. Jou watched eagerly as a few of the Vikings started to stumble in their path, some quickly falling to the ground. Jou grinned from ear to ear as he watched each Viking warrior go down gently in a peaceful sleep. So far, plan A was working!! “It worked Yugi!” Yugi laughed happily and held Annar close.

“Things are looking up, Jou!!” Jou gave him a thumbs up.

“We succeeded in taking the first group down!”

Out in the field....

“What the hell just happened?!” Said the Viking warlord. “They all just fell!!” He looked at the young blonde Viking.

“I’m not sure sir! The occupants of the castle must have some plan of attack! They might have known we were coming!”

“But what happened to my men?!” He asked angrily.

“Maybe it was witchcraft, sir!” The young man suggested.

“Damn it! We were not told of this!” He growled. “Send the next group! If it is indeed witchcraft, then we will pull back and report to Lord Pegasus!”

“SECOND UNIT, GO FORTH!!”

Back at the castle.

“Lady Yugi, they’re sending another unit!” Said a Viking warrior. “What’s the next attack?”

“Arrows, right Jou?!” Yugi shouted over to him.

“Yeah, we’re out of powder!!”

“I’ll ready the archers!” Said the Viking warrior. “ARCHERS, READY YOUR ARROWS!” Jou picked up his bow and cocked an arrow, aiming it up in the air, same as the other archers. The Viking warrior waited until the enemies were in range, then shouted “FIRE!” Yugi held Annar’s head close to his chest to cover his ears from all the screams of pain coming from below the castle. The archers readied their second round of arrows, letting them whistle through the air. More cries of pain echoed up to the roof, making Yugi shiver. He looked down at Annar, knowing that one day, he would grow up to be a Viking warrior like his father. Well, that was still a long way away! Besides, he couldn’t think about this now!

Out in the field.

“ARGH!! They did it again!!” Shouted the Viking Warlord angrily, clenching his fists. “How well are they armed?!”

“I don’t know, sir!” Said the young Viking “It seems that witchcraft is not their only weapon!”

“They can’t have THAT many arrows left since Yami and the army had to have taken most of them!”

“So what are your orders now, sir?”

“Full attack!”

“Sir, do you think that’s wise? I mean, we don’t know what else they have behind those walls!”

“There aren’t that many people in the castle to defend it properly! They won’t meet us down here for hand to hand combat, so they plan to attack from above. If we move in much larger numbers, their petty antics may not prove to be so effective! Now signal the attack!”

“FULL ATTACK!!!”

Back at the castle.

“They’re attacking again! This time the whole army is!” Ryou shouted to the others as he looked over the wall with Mokuba in his arms. “What do we do Jou?!”

“We’re short on arrows, Jou!” Shouted a Viking warrior.

“Ryou, get the water ready! Mokuba, you gonna help in throwing some rock?” Jou grinned in hopes of heightening Mokuba’s spirits. He could tell the boy was scared. Mokuba smiled.

“Yeah!! I wanna throw some rocks! Lets go Ryou!” Mokuba jumped from Ryou’s arms and ran to the rock pile. Ryou ordered everyone to get the cauldrons over to the wall. The warriors grabbed the ropes and wheeled the cauldrons over to the wall while the servants gathered up the rocks. These two tactics were their last hope. If these didn’t work, then they would have serious trouble!

“FIRE WHEN READY!” Jou gave his order and the people followed. Mokuba got a rock and threw it far into the air, letting out a cheer when it hit a Viking square in the head. Yugi pilled some rocks on the stone ledge and threw them as far as he could, hoping to strike some Vikings. Annar saw his mother throwing rocks and he wanted to do it too. He picked up a rock and dropped it strait down, hitting one of the Vikings who had made it to the drawbridge door. The baby giggled and dropped another one, yet again nailing a Viking.

“No, no Annar! No rocks for you!” Yugi scolded him. “You might get hurt!”

“READY THE WATER!” Ryou shouted. The Vikings put on their leather gloves and lifted the cauldrons up over the wall, pouring the boiling hot water onto the enemy. The hot water came down like a waterfall, hitting any Viking warrior that stood at the bottom of the castle wall. The men drew back, screaming as their flesh was beginning to burn. The servants continued to throw the rocks while some Vikings were making due with their small number of arrows.

“Ryou, there’s no more water!” Shouted a female servant. RYou looked down at the men.

“We managed to burn a majority of them, though! And the rocks are still proving to be useful!”

“Lady Yugi!” A Viking ran up to him. “We’re out of arrows and water, and we’re low on rocks! I don’t think we can hold them back for much longer!” Yugi gasped and looked to Jou, hoping he had some idea. Jou’s face drained of color as he heard the Viking’s words.

“Now what are we going to do?!” Yugi said frantically, fearing the worst. “How long can the drawbridge hold up?!” Yugi asked the Viking.

“I’m not sure, Lady Yugi! Depends on their strength and weapons!” Ryou looked out over the wall.

“We’re done for!” He nearly screamed. Mokuba cried and ran to Jou, seeking some protection.

“Oh no! Look over there!!” Jou shouted to the others and pointed over the wall. Another army had come out of the woods, charging head on.

“Do they have backup?!” Ryou said as he clutched Yugi, who was clutching him back. Poor Annar was squashed between them.

“I don’t recognize any of them as our men!” Jou told them, fear striking him stiff. “This is the end!” He looked out at the army and shrieked when saw the front line ready their bows. “EVERYBODY DOWN!” Everyone on the roof ducked down at Jou’s orders. The sounds of arrows flying through the air pierced their ears, and they waited for the weapons to land. However, not one arrow rained down upon them. Yugi peeked out from between Ryou’s arms and heard screams of pain coming from the ground. He shot out of Ryou’s arms and leaned over the wall, gasping at the sight. Almost half of the remaining men from Pegasus’s army lay dead on the ground, arrows protruding from their bodies. The few that were still standing were quickly met with the same fate. Whoever these men were, they were not here to attack them. Maybe they were part of Herrick’s army?

“Yugi, what’s happening?” Ryou asked, joining him at the wall.

“They killed off Pegasus’s army! I don’t think they are enemies, but allies!”

“How can you be sure? I’m sure Pegasus has all kinds of enemies, and so does Yami.” Yugi shrugged his shoulders.

“I don’t know, Ryou....I’m going to go down and meet them. They’re waving some flag.” Ryou gasped.

“Yugi! You can’t do that! You don’t’ know who they are! If they know you are Yami’s ‘wife’, they might kill you!”

“Ryou’s right, Yugi.” Jou said, coming to stand next to them. “We can’t risk you getting hurt!” Yugi looked at them seriously.

“I just have a good feeling about them. And I am going.” Yugi pushed passed them, handing Annar to Ryou.

“Wait, Yugi!”

Ryou called after him but Yugi did not turn around nor did he stop. He just broke out into a run and left the roof, heading down the steps. He straitened out his clothes along the way, trying to look a tad bit presentable. When he reached the drawbridge, he had the guards lower it down for him. He ran over to where Avaldamon was, untying his reigns. Avaldamon looked down at him and snorted.

“Please Avaldamon, I need you to behave! Please let me ride you?” Yugi stroked his nose calmly and softly, hoping to sooth the horse’s wild nature. Avaldamon looked at him with his black eye and Yugi gulped as he saw his reflection there. He remembered what happened to Duke. “Please be a good horse?” Avaldamon nudged his head over in the direction of saddle, giving a soft neighing noise as he did. Yugi smiled and pat the massive neck gently. He then realized that he was too short to reach the saddle and he pouted. Avaldamon snorted again and laid down the hay, making it easier for Yugi to climb on. Yugi hopped onto the saddle and took the reigns.

“Lets go Avaldamon!” Avaldamon broke into a run, making Yugi yelp and hang on tightly to the reigns. He didn’t really know how to ride a horse...much less one the size of Avaldamon. The two rode out of the castle, heading for the army of men. Yugi tried to ignore all the dead bodies around him as Avaldamon seemed to have no problem riding over them. They must have seen them coming because he saw three men on horseback riding towards them.

The four men met up in the center of the field. Yugi tried to stay calm as he looked at the three rather beastly men in front of him. He felt a bit better knowing Avaldamon was with him. The man in the middle wore gold jewelry while the other two looked like regular soldiers. He must be someone powerful due to his attire. He was also very handsome despite his age. Yugi quickly dismissed the thought from his mind. The man in the middle and the one on the left both had blonde hair while the other had red. They both looked young like him.

“And who might you be?” Said the man in the middle.

“I am Lady Yugi Bolverk, Lord Yami’s wife. I am in charge of the Bolverk estate in my husband’s absence.” Wow, he sounded like a pro!

“Wife?” The man with blonde hair turned to the man in the middle. “I thought he was married to that Tea girl?” The man on the far left shook his head.

“Not anymore. I heard she ran off with some guy. Left the kid and all. But I didn’t know Lord Yami remarried.” The man looked at Yugi. “You’re too young for him! How old are you?”

“Uh..I’m 17 summers, sir.” The men burst out laughing and Yugi frowned, wondering what was going on. “Um...excuse me, but I don’t understand what is so funny?” the laughter died down.

“Never mind kid.” The man in the middle said, still snickering. He then cleared his throat. “Now, allow me to introduce myself. I am Olaf Tryggvason, King of Norway! [1]” He puffed his chest out and swung his hair. Yugi just sat there, dumbfounded.

“Huh...? K-king? Norway has a king?! I thought they only had Viking Lords!” Olaf glared at Yugi and crossed his arms.

“I’m assuming Yami has never mentioned me?” Yugi nodded.

“I’ve never heard you.” Olaf humped.

“Well, I am the King! And you should address me as such!!” Yugi eeped and bowed his head.

“I apologize, King Tryg-Trygg-eh...” Yugi found it hard to pronounce his last name. “King Olaf, sir!” Olaf rolled his eyes.

“Anyway, I come here on official business. I’m assuming Yami is off at a fight right now?” Yugi nodded. “Well, that is the reason I am here. I heard through the grapevine all that has been happening inside the Bolverk family. I little civil war, right?” Yugi nodded again.

“Yes sir.”

“Both Yami and Pegasus have started battles without my knowledge or permission! Yami should have come to me if he was having a dispute with his uncle! He shouldn’t have gone off on his own with this! I can’t wait until he gets back so I can give him a piece of my mind!” Yugi was slightly frightened now. He was talking to the Norway King!! And he was looking for Yami! Yami must be in so much trouble now!

“Are...are you coming here to take my husband away?” Yugi said with tears welling in his eyes. He didn’t want Yami to be taken away!

“No, we’re not here to take him away.” Said the man on the right. “We are here to talk with him about this civil war matter.”

“Yami is not in trouble.” Olaf told Yugi who let out a sigh. “The Bolverk’s are a very good family, in name and hearts. I will do nothing to jeopardize their lives. I just want to get this matter cleared up.”

“Oh, well then, you are welcomed here at our home.” Yugi said with a bow. “Your soldiers may rest up in the barracks and you, my good king, can stay in one of our guest rooms until my husband’s return.”

“Thank you, Lady Yugi! We will be greatly honored!” Yugi smiled.

“And I must thank you for helping us in this fight! I wasn’t sure if you were friend or foe.”

“And yet you came to us on friendly terms. Plus, you showed no fear.” Olaf said with a little smile. “Not bad for an Englishman.”

“How do you know I’m English?”

“Your Norse is not that good.”

“Oh, I apologize, King Olaf.”

“I guess being married to a girl like Tea would make a man turn to the same sex!” said the man on the left with a laugh.

“Oh, is there something wrong with me being married to Yami?” Yugi asked.

“Same sex marriages are illegal in this country.” Said the king, watching all the color drain from Yugi’s face. “However, since the Bolverk family have been good, loyal servants of the royals, and because I am the king, I will overlook it.” Yugi let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh thank God! I thought you were going to divorce us!” The king shook his head.

“Anyway, are you going to invite me in or keep me out here?” Yugi eeped.

“Oh! Of course! I apologize for my rudeness but this is my first time running a castle and living a noble’s life. I doing my best to learn though, your majesty.”

“No problem.” Said the king. “I’m going to send my army back yet keep a few men here. I’ll leave after I’ve talked to Yami. And I’m hungry! Have a meal prepared for me right away!” Yugi nodded.

“Yes, of course.” Yugi turned Avaldamon around. “Follow me, your majesty.”

By dawn of the next day, Yami and the others had safely made it back to the castle. Yami put his hand up to stop the troops. He rode his horse out of the woods, expecting to see an army. Instead, he sat with his mouth agape as he took in the carnage all over the ground. Did they fight against Pegasus’s men? All by themselves?!

“Yami, what’s wrong?!” Seto said in a panic, riding up next to him. When Yami didn’t answer, Seto looked at the castle and gasped when he saw the dozens of bodies on the ground. “None of those are our men! Do you think they defeated them?! All alone?!”

“I...I guess so...” Yami didn’t know what to say. The others rode out to be with them.

“What’s going on?” Asked Bakura.

“We don’t need to fight.” Yami said. “They did it for us.”

“Them?! As in, Yugi, Ryou, and Jou?!” Marik asked in shock.

“That’s what I’m figuring.” Said Yami as he suddenly smiled. “Well I’ll be damned! My little Yugi came through!” There was the sound of a horn from the castle, signaling their arrival back home. “Tristan, go tell the men everything is alright!” Tristan, who had Duke behind him, nodded and went to carry out his order. “Alright, lets go find out what happened.”

In the castle...

“THEY’RE BACK!” Jou shouted from his spot at the dais table. He jumped up and off the dais, running to the door. Ryou heard the news and dropped the plates he was carrying back on the table to follow Jou. Yugi picked Annar up from his highchair and hurried down the dais steps, following his friends. Mokuba was playing will Beowulf when he saw the three run passed him and he got up to follow, taking Beowulf with him. Avaldamon broke away from his bindings and followed after the group also.

“Here comes the welcome wagons.” Seto said as he spotted the group running towards them. Seto jumped off his horse and held his arms out for Jou.

“SETO!!” Jou shouted and jumped into Seto’s arms, wrapping his legs around his waist. Seto held him tight so he didn’t fall while getting showered with kisses. Mokuba squealed and clutched onto his brother’s leg.

“Ew, puppy slobber!”

“Welcome back big brother!”

Yami got down from his horse and was suddenly tackled by a Yugi with a baby. Yugi was on his chest with Annar, raining kisses on him just like JOu was doing to Seto.

“You’re back Yami!! You’re back!” Yami laughed and sat up, sitting Yugi in his lap and ruffling his son’s thin hair.

“Of course I am!” He said and kissed Yugi’s cheek. “What happened here, Yugi? Did you fight them all by yourself?” Yugi went on to tell Yami about what happened. Ryou was just about to jump into Bakura’s arms, but he quickly stopped himself. Bakura wouldn’t appreciate that at all. He came up to Bakura with a smile.

“I’m glad to see you have safely returned, Bakura! I was worried about you.” Bakura remained atop his horse, not looking down at Ryou.

“Yeah, I’m back. Have a hot bath and some dinner prepared special for me, Ryou. Get moving!”

“Oh, alright Bakura.” Ryou said with a small frown. “I’ll have everything ready as soon as I can.” Ryou turned and started running back to the castle, tears pouring down his cheeks. He wanted so much to jump into Bakura’s arms like Jou and Yugi did. Why did he have to fall in love with such a jerk!?

“You fought off all those men with the servants and those few guards we left?!” Yami said in shock after hearing Yugi’s story. Yugi nodded his head happily.

“I defended our home Yami! Did I do right?” Yami smiled and kissed his cheek.

“You did a great job, Yugi! I knew I could count on you to take care of things here!”

“There would have been more disasters if I hadn’t come along.” A new voice made the returning warriors turn their heads. Their jaws practically dropped to the ground as they saw King Olaf and his advisor in front of them. “Boo.” He said with an evil smirk.

“Wh-what are YOU doing here?!”

“Did you think I would not have gotten word about your little unauthorized war?” Olaf said, crossing his arms. “Yami Bolverk, you have some explaining to do.”
