Chapter 3
Sara stared at Yusei as he quickly retreated. She slowly turned her gaze to the small red bottle in her hand. It had been given to Yusei by his mother. ‘This must have been extremely important to him. Why did he give it to me?’ she thought, heading inside and up to her bedroom without even noticing where she was going. She sat on her bed, absentmindedly rubbing the bottle with her thumb.
“I wish I could see what Yusei’s really like on the inside...” she said without thinking. A hearty baritone chuckle answered her, causing her to jump.
“I know you didn’t realize what you were doing, so I won’t count that as a real wish,” the genie said, stepping out of the corner and sitting next to her. “My name is Yami, and I take it Yusei decided to give you my bottle instead of using me himself.”
“Yusei knew about...? This is...?” Sara stammered, unable to put her thoughts together. The genie brushed his fingers through his tri-colored hair.
“Yes, what you are holding is a genie bottle. I am a genie,” Yami said. “So, do you have a wish?”
“Only two,” Sara said, knowing the perfect two wishes. “I wish Yusei would gain the features his father has that he lacks, and I wish for your freedom in that order.”
Yami’s eyes widened in shock at those wishes, but smiled, muttering, “I see why he handed you my bottle.” In a louder voice, the genie said, “You’re wish is my command!” A blast of magic soared out the window toward Yusei, while another freed Yami from his magical shackles.
~*~*~
Yusei felt the genie’s magic hit him and he gasped. ‘What the-?’ he thought, feeling something strange. He felt his back where the strange feeling was coming from. There were two ridges there all of a sudden. ‘So my father had some sort of wings,’ Yusei thought, having accurately guessed what Sara had been thinking yet again. ‘I just hope he wasn’t an Incubus...’
~*~*~
The next day at school, Yusei slowly sauntered through the halls like nothing was wrong. However, those ridges on his back were beginning to be a real pain, and he wondered if he should take some time off. The final exams were next week. If he could hold out till then, he could skip his own graduation. Martha could pick up his diploma for him, if necessary.
Sara was surprised to see nothing about Yusei had changed. When she asked Yami about it, all he said was, “Sometimes if takes awhile for magic to cancel out a binding spell.”
Sara wondered why Yusei had a binding spell put on him and what he really was.
