Lovers in the Dark

Nikki noticed as the days wore on the Yusei always seemed to be close by. At first she thougght it was cute, especially since he kept looking at her with those prize-winning sapphire blue eyes. Then she began to wonder if he wanted to tell her something, but didn’t know how.
It turned out Yami and Yusei only ate humans that were a threat, not wanting to waste the effort of a kill. The bulk of their meals consisted of various large game animals. They had promised to refrain from hunting humans out of respect for Nikki. Since Yusei was unable to hunt with a broken arm, Yami went out several times a night to hunt smaller game than they usually brought down together, bringing the animals back to the cabin devoid of blood. Nikki cooked the food brrought back, helping Yusei eat since he shouldn’t continually shift forms in his condition, and he was unfamiliar with the use of cutlery. Nikki was amazed that the even had kitchen supplies in their cabin.
One day, while Yami was sleeping in the cellar, well away from the sun, Yusei came up to Nikki and sat down next to her. She looked at him, wondering if he was finally going to tell her what was on his mind, but he just put his head on her shoulder and dozed. The unspoken message was received. The werewolf had a crush on the former hunter. Nikki looked at the broken arm of her werewolf friend.
‘That’s why,’ she thought, stroking Yusei’s black-and-gold hair gently. She smiled. He really was a sweetheart.

I know, no dialogue. It was just an introduction to their daily routine, and a nice way to introduce Yusei and Nikki’s relationship. An unspoken bond tends to grow better than one spoken of too soon. ^_~
