Aftermath

Sorry it took so long, this chapter was kinda hard to write. Here's hoping the next one goes easier. ^_^

Hugs for the reviews!

Mariko: Glad your liking it and don't worry, I usually like to finish something once it's started.

yaoirose: Yeah it is a little off plot, but I'm kinda of liking this pairing at the moment. Besides it provides the smut while Joey and Kaiba sort themselves out.

sugar: Sorry this took so long (2 weeks goes by so quickly!) Enjoy

Cody_Thomas: Woot! I tried, glad you liked.

Onward chapter 3!!

While Duke was busy doing something he knew he would probably end up regretting, Joey had made it home, thinking just when he thought that his life couldn’t have possibly gotten any worse, it had. Years and years he had waited for that…that…person to come back and he comes back married!

He wanted to hate Kaiba, he had tried but his heart just wouldn’t listen to what his head was telling him. What sort of idiot remains helplessly in love with someone after they’ve blown you off for 3 years? Joey Wheeler, that’s who. It’s not like he wanted to be like this, he had tried dating other people but none of them worked out. It was so frustrating! The few girls he had gone out with were perfectly nice, smart, funny, attractive, but he felt nothing, absolutely nothing. He might as well have gone out with his own sister. He had thought for a while that maybe he had gone completely gay but after attempting one night with a guy proved that theory wrong. It just drove home the point that he really couldn’t stand anyone else touching him apart from Kaiba.

So he wasn’t gay, he wasn’t straight; he had come to the conclusion that he was Seto-asexual. There was only one man he wanted.

Not even bothering to undress, Joey crawled on to his bed, burying his face in his pillow. He groaned loudly but no more tears came to his eyes. He had cried enough over Kaiba, he just couldn’t do it anymore. He was fed up. Life was unfair.

He had been so shocked when he had heard the CEO’s voice at Yugi’s, he couldn’t stop the excitement he felt at knowing he was only in the next room. He knew he shouldn’t be having that reaction, this was the man who had abandoned him after all. There was no way he would have been able to face Kaiba then, not with a room full of his friends there as well, but he couldn’t go away with out at least taking a peek at the man he had been pinning over for 3 years. As stealthily as he could, he had peered around the kitchen door. His breath caught in his throat when he got a glimpse of the tall brunet.

Joey sighed now thinking about it. Kaiba looked just the same now as he did in high school, gorgeous (In Jou’s opinion). From his immaculately styled hair right down to his perfectly polished shoes, Kaiba looked beautiful, just like he did the day he left. His excitement was short lived as the women who entered after him introduced herself as Kaiba’s wife.

All ideas of being to make up with the man he loved were gone, he hadn’t thought that he could have felt worse than he did when Kaiba disappeared, but today brought a whole new meaning to the word ‘crushed’.

Joey rolled over onto his back, staring at the ceiling. Did their time together mean so little to Kaiba? Sure their relationship wasn’t smooth sailing all the time but whose was? What hurt the most was that he thought Seto had loved him. Surely they wouldn’t have been together for so long if that wasn’t the case. Kaiba was never one to have things round him that he didn’t like.

He groaned again, rubbing his arm across his eyes. Why did he yearn so much for this guy who had just cast him aside so easily and married some woman? And who the hell was she anyway? Where did she come from? Had Kaiba known her before? But Seto had never mentioned anything. All the people Kaiba knows are businessmen, his employees and them. So he could only assume he had met her while over in America. He wanted to know more about her but couldn’t stand the thought of being in her company. Of course there was no way he was going to avoid it. Jou was sure, knowing his friends as he did, that this wouldn’t be the last time they all hung out together and he couldn’t hide away every time. He just hoped that she was horrible so it looked like he had an actual reason for hating her. Cos even after 6 years he still hadn’t told anyone about him and Kaiba, it had been one of the main things that they had kept arguing about. Jou didn’t know why but he had always been reluctant to tell his friends that him and Kaiba where dating and Kaiba got tired of always having to hide their relationship.

It was sort of funny really, you would have thought it was the other way around but by the end it was really starting to irritate the brunet. That and the fact that Joey hardly ever called Kaiba by his name (he did during sex but according to Kaiba that didn’t count). It was just out of habit really, it felt weird calling him ‘Seto’ when for years it had been ‘Kaiba’.

Even now he still wasn’t a 100% on why it bothered him so much about the name thing but had been thinking that maybe he should have told his friends. After all Tea seemed to have worked it out on her own and she hadn’t found him disgusting or anything. She reacted just like a good friend should, like Yugi had done, with understanding and acceptance. He couldn’t for the life of him figure out how she knew, since Yugi hadn’t told her. Women were scary some times.

It probably was the thought about telling Tristan that put him off. If there was one of his friends that wouldn’t approve, it would be Tristan. Apart from the whole gay issue there was also the fact that Tristan was always the one who would back him up when he used to fight and complain about the CEO before. It almost seemed like a betrayal on his part, for dating the man he claimed to hate.

Now with hindsight it probably was for the best. He really didn’t need everyone’s sympathy and pity for the situation he was now in. being able to talk to Yugi and now Tea as well, was all that he need. He guessed he sort of missed Ohana, being able to talk to her while at he was at school had been a huge help. She may have been ever so slightly odd but it was nice to be able to get an unbiased view. He wondered what had happened to her. He knew she had left the school when his year had graduated but he hadn’t seen or heard from her since. He assumed she was still with that guy…they may even be married by now. Argh…no! Don’t think about marriage. Stupid Kaiba!

Curling up onto his side, Joey sighed again. He wanted to see him, to be alone with him, to touch him, kiss him and…other stuff. Closing his eyes, he attempted to force himself to sleep, trying hard not to wonder if Kaiba had thought about him at all.

===@===

It was a mystery to Mokuba what on earth his brother was thinking these days. He pondered this as the three of them sat in silence on there way home from Yugi’s place. Sure it had been a shock to every one that his brother was married, but that paled in comparison to how he felt when he landed in New York a few weeks ago. Seto hadn’t told him anything about her during his absence away at school, so imagine his surprise suddenly having a sister-in-law in his life. Well surprise would be putting it lightly, he had been furious that his brother had neglected to tell him anything, he was only family after all! Mokuba had berated him so bad once he got him alone. Of course that yielded nothing. Seto had never done anything just because you shouted at him and he wasn’t gonna start now. So leaving nothing else for it, Mokuba just had to accept this woman and his brother’s decision that he had no involvement in it.

With this resolution reached Mokuba endeavoured to make sure he got on well with his new sister, especially since she would now be living with them now on. So far though, he hadn’t been able to make much head way. For the 2 weeks he was in America before coming home, Mokuba had pretty much spent the time with Seto but Haruka had been strangely absent. All he really knew about her was that she was the daughter of the CEO of a company that Gozaburo Kaiba was in contact with while he was the president of Kaibacorp and that Seto had met her before when Gozaburo had taken him over there on one of his trips. Mokuba had never been allowed to go. He had hated it when he was left alone in that big house. Sure there were lots of staff and servers around but it wasn’t the same without Seto. It had always felt so large and empty when his brother wasn’t there with him. Not that he had that problem anymore, their house now was just as large but it had felt much more like home than that man’s ever had. And now having Seto and his wife there it might almost feel like having a normal family.

“Why did you do that?” The silence in the car was suddenly punctured by his brother’s voice. He looked away from the window to see Seto looking straight at Haru.

“What?” she asked innocently, staring back, completely unfazed.

“Why did you follow us in? I told you to wait in the car.”

“And I told you I’m not waiting in the car like an obedient dog.”

“We were only gonna be a couple of minutes.”

“Do you honestly expect me to believe, that having not seen your friends for years, that catching up is gonna take a few minutes?”

“They’re not my friends.”

“Oh fine! Mokuba’s friends then, the point remains the same. You wanted to be there for longer than 5 minutes right?” she asked Mokuba.

“Huh? Well…I guess.” Mokuba replied reluctantly, not really wanting to get pulled into this spat “It was nice seeing everyone again. We should definitely sort out another get together.”

“Yeah, I’d like that since I don’t…”

“No.” Seto cut in firmly.

“Wha…why?” Mokuba and Haru responded together as the car pulled up outside the front entrance to Kaiba Manor.

“Because I said no.” Seto replied bluntly getting out of the car. Mokuba rolled his eyes at his brother’s behaviour, knowing exactly why he was acting like this. Of course poor Haru didn’t have a clue. Mokuba watched her get out of the car after Seto, an angry frown creasing her forehead. Mokuba left last following after the two figures entering the house.

“I don’t remember needing your permission.” He heard her say once he was inside.

“I don’t care, I do not want you getting involved with them.”

“But Seto.” Haru said quieter, dropping the hostility from her words. Reaching out she grabbed hold of Seto’s coat sleeve before he could move away. Mokuba saw his brother’s eyes soften as looked down at the girl, who stood almost pleadingly at his side.

“I just don’t think it’s a good idea.” He said in a gentler tone of voice. “It’s been a long day, we can discuss it another time.” Haru let the fabric slip through her fingers as Seto made for the staircase. “I have something to take of. Mokuba can show you around.” Rounding the corner he disappeared out of sight. He always was such a charmer, Mokuba thought, leaving his new wife alone in her new home.

“I’ll talk to him.” Ha said coming up to her. “I’m sure he’s just tired and agitated today, he’ll be in a better mood tomorrow.” He continued trying to sound as if he believed what he was saying. His brother was hardly ever in a good mood. He had a feeling Haru knew this too when she gave him a rather pointed look. “Sorry.” He apologised sheepishly. “I forgot you’ve spent quite a bit of time with him already.”

“It’s ok.” Haru replied back, smiling sadly. “I know he’s not that bad of a person, so I know there must be reason why he doesn’t want me getting friendly with those guys, it’s why he won’t tell me is what I don’t understand.”

“Mmm.” Mokuba agreed, although he could tell her the reason right now but he didn’t think Seto would be too happy about that. He felt like he should say something to her so opted for a sort of half truth. “It’s probably because we sort of have a chequered past with them. I don’t think he believes we had any good times. Personally…” Mokuba said lowering his voice, “…I think he’s never forgiven Yugi for beating him so many times.”

“Hmm…maybe. It’s just that I left everyone behind back home, my friends, family. I just don’t want to end up alone, you know?” Mokuba saw the concern show on her and couldn’t help but feel a little guilty, forgetting that this was a big move for Haru. For him and Seto it was coming home after so long but for Haruhi it was moving away from everything she knew. Sympathy grew in his chest as he quickly took her hand, pulling her down a corridor.

“Hey! What are you…?”

“You’re not tired yet right?”

“Well…no, not really.”

“Good.” Said Mokuba happily, continuing to drag her along with him and into their large living room. Letting go, Mokuba chucked a controller into Haru’s hand. “How are you at Street Fighter?”
