Chapter 2
Ryou smiled as he went through he went through his clothes looking for the perfect outfit to ware that night. It had been four days since Ryou, Malik and Yugi had boarded the ship. And tonight the captain was having a special party. Ryou had been to parties before with his father. But they had all been boring, all they talked about at those parties were what was happening at the latest dig site. Ryou loved to listen to his father’s stories about his digs in Egypt, but not for nearly five hours strait. Or until Ryou fell asleep. But he knew tonight would be fun.
He looked over when the door to Malik’s room opened and the blond haired Egyptian came out warring what Ryou would classify as a ‘belly dancer’ outfit. The shirt covered Malik’s chest but stopped just before the stomach showing off a decent amount of tanned skin. The shirt was a very light purple with gold trimming. Ryou also noticed that Malik had put on his Egyptian jewelry. His gold wrist bands, choker, and earrings. The pants were also a light purple, but the fabric they were made from made it look almost silver in the right light. There were also two gold cuffs around Malik’s ankles holding the fabric in place and two slits running from Malik’s ankles all the way up to just below his thighs. Ryou shook his head.
“You’re going to be the center of attention at the party tonight.” Ryou said smiling and Malik grinned at him.
“Possibly.” He said grinning. “It depends on if you ware YOUR outfit too. Isis had it made for you, but you’ve never worn it.” Malik said. Ryou gave Malik’s outfit a once over before shaking his head.
“No thank you.” Ryou said and returned to going through his clothes. That’s when Yugi came in and Ryou couldn’t help but stop and stare. Yugi was dressed also in a ‘belly dancer’ outfit. Only Yugi’s shirt covered a bit more then just his chest. And his pants had no slits in them. Yugi’s outfit was mostly black and silver. And Ryou noted that black was definitely Yugi’s color. Instead of the gold choker like Malik had, Yugi wore his typical buckle.
“See, not all the outfits show off as much skin as mine. I actually modified mine so it would show off MORE skin.” Malik said grinning. Ryou shook his head.
“Alright, I’ll at least try mine on okay? IF you leave my room long enough for me to change.” Ryou said. Malik pouted but he and Yugi left the room for Ryou to change. Ryou’s outfit was made of a pale blue and unlike Malik and Yugi’s outfit, Ryou’s actually had long sleeves, even though there were slits in the sleeves much like Malik’s pants, that ran from the shoulders all the way down to the wrists where Ryou had to tie the sleeves together so they wouldn’t just hang there. Ryou pulled his pants on. They were comfy, even if they were a bit baggy. As Ryou looked in the mirror he smiled when he noticed that the only part of his stomach was showing was his bellybutton.
Ryou turned looking at the back in the mirror. He smiled a bit more before heading over to Yugi’s room where the other two were waiting. He saw them sitting on the bed playing go fish. Malik looked up and smiled.
“You like the outfit?” He asked and Ryou nodded.
“Yes. I think it will be good for tonight. I’ll have to thank your sister when we get back.” he said smiling, even though he already knew that Malik had just used Isis as an excuse to get Ryou to actually TAKE the outfit.
“uh…yeah.” Malik said and turned back to the game. Ryou giggled and went over kissing his cheek. “Thank you.” He whispered smiling. Malik actually blushed a little and Yugi started laughing. It was very rare that someone could get Malik to blush. And Ryou beamed at him.
“Oh shut up.” Malik said throwing his cards at Yugi. Yugi just giggled more as the cards hit him in the face. Ryou smiled at them shaking his head.
“I don’t know why you get so upset, you make me and Yugi blush all the time.” Ryou pointed out.
“Yeah, but you look CUTE when you blush!” Now it was Ryou’s turn to blush. Before he could say anything however there was a knock on the door. Malik jumped off the bed and ran over answering it. It was the crew member Kenji. Kenji blinked looking over Malik’s outfit, then Ryou and Yugi’s before smiling.
“I see you have decided to come to the party tonight? The captain will be pleased.” He said. Malik nodded.
“It sounded like fun, besides, it was a good excuse for me to dig out this old outfit. I haven’t had a good reason to ware it in a long time.” Malik said giving Kenji a wink. Kenji cleared his throat.
“Anyway. The reason I am here.” He said now looking anywhere but at Malik. “The captain has requested that if you do not have other plans, he would like you to join him for lunch.” Kenji said. Malik looked back at Ryou and Yugi. Yugi bounced up.
“We’ll be there.” Yugi said smiling and Ryou nodded. Malik looked back at Kenji who nodded saluting them before leaving. Malik closed the door behind him.
“I hope the captain isn’t going out of his way to entertain us…” Ryou said thoughtfully. Malik shook his head.
“I doubt he is. It must be pretty boring having to stand up on the bridge ALL day.” Malik pointed out.
“Well, I guess that’s true.” Ryou said speaking from experience. Just the day before they had gone up to the bridge and the captain had let each of them take a turn steering the boat. Malik and Ryou had found it amusing that Yugi couldn’t even see over the wheel. And had to stand on a chair. The three of them had gotten bored with it after a couple hours though. And had retreated to the privet pool.
“Well, we should head up to the captain’s cabbin.” Malik said snickering at the looks Ryou and Yugi gave him.
“We’re not going to change first?” Ryou asked.
“Nope. There’s no point in changing if we’ll be there for lunch. And if the captain tells us another one of his stories we’ll be there until the party starts. So we might as well just go like this.” Malik said. Yugi shrugged and seemed alright with the idea. But Ryou had turned a bright shade of red. The deck was probably full of people still sunbathing, and just walking around enjoying the weather. And when he voiced this Malik couldn’t help but laugh.
“Ryou, they’ll be seeing you at the party anyway. What would you rather have? Them stare at you NOW and get the shock out of their system, or have them stare at you all night at the party.” Malik said then looked thoughtful. “Well, now that I think about it they will probably stare at you at the party no matter what. But it still doesn’t matter.” He said as he dragged Ryou towards the door. Yugi right behind them.
“You just love tormenting Ryou don’t you?” Yugi asked closing the door as they left.
“No, I just think he’s cute when he blushes. And I know how to make him blush.” Malik said still holding Ryou’s hand as they walked down the hall heading towards the stairs that led up to the deck.
“I don’t think it’s something to brag about Malik. Because just about EVERYTHING makes Ryou blush.” Yugi said giggling as he ducked avoiding the swinging hand that Ryou was aiming at his head.
“You BOTH like to torment me!” Ryou whined as they emerged on deck.
“Well, yeah.” Malik said looking at Ryou like that should have been really obvious. As predicted people on deck were staring at Ryou as the three boys walked across heading towards the captain’s cabin. But it wasn’t just Ryou they were staring at. All three of the boys were getting quite a bit of attention. Malik blinked when he felt Yugi move closer to him trying not to look back at the people that were staring. Malik chuckled and ruffled Yugi’s hair.
“Poor little Yugi. Not used to being noticed so much?” He asked teasingly then yelped as Yugi was able to stomp on his foot.
“I’m not THAT little!” He said his cheeks puffing out slightly in irritation.
“Sure you are!” Malik said laughing more. “And you look like a blowfish when you do that!” Malik yelped and took off running when Yugi went to hit him again. Yugi, not one to let Malik get away with anything gave chase. Ryou shook his head and started jogging along the deck to keep up. The captain was waiting for them and smiled watching Malik doing his best to stay away from Yugi. Ryou ignored his friends and going over and smiling at the captain.
“I’m glad you three could make it.” The captain said taking Ryou’s hand and kissing it. Ryou blinked and felt his cheeks heating up. “I must say, you and your friends look lovely. Those outfits really suit you three well.” The captain said. “Come, before the food gets cold.” He said opening the door for Ryou. Ryou smiled and headed into the cabin. Moments later Malik came in sitting down grinning as Yugi stomped into the room still looking irritated with the blond boy. This made the captain laugh.
“My my boy. What has got you so upset today?” He asked closing the door behind them making sure that Yugi got a seat away from Malik.
“The usual. He keeps insisting he’s not short!” Malik said and Yugi glared at him.
“I’m not! I’m taller then my grandpa!” He said as if that would settle things.
“Yugi, that’s not much of a difference, and the only reason you’re taller then him is because of your HAIR! You are still the shortest person on this ship.” Malik pointed out. Yugi crossed his arms over his chest turning his head away from Malik letting out a huff. The captain laughed at the three of them as he set up the plates of food for them.
“You three must be really close.” The captain said. “I’ve only ever heard siblings fight the way you three do.” He handed a plate to Yugi and Ryou and then one to Malik. Ryou accepted his plate nodding.
“Yes sir. We’ve grown up together. So in a way we are like brothers. I can’t remember a time when we’ve been apart.”
Malik nodded. “Yeah, even when my sister moved back to Egypt. She let me stay with Yugi so I could finish up school.”
“I see.” The captain said looking thoughtful as he began too eat as well. Malik watched him and couldn’t help but frown. The captain seemed to be thinking about something that was obviously worrying him quite a lot.
“I don’t mean to pry.” Malik said. “But is everything okay?” The captain looked like he had been caught off guard by Malik’s question then laughed.
“Am I that obvious?”
“No, I’m just really good at reading people.” Malik said. Ryou looked at Malik then back at the captain.
“Don’t worry. I was just thinking about a bad weather report I got. But I set a new course so there should be nothing to worry about.” He said and finished eating. Malik didn’t look quite convinced but dropped it and finished his food as well. It wasn’t long before they were all done and the captain sat back in his chair closing his eyes and relaxing a bit.
“Are you going to tell us another story?” Yugi asked braking the silence. The captain opened his eyes and looked at Yugi who looked eager to hear one of the captain’s tall tails. Looking at the other two he smiled when he received the same look from them as well.
“You boy’s really enjoy stories.” He said leaning over and picking up his pipe lighting it he took a few good puffs closing his eyes again trying to think of a good story. “Let’s see…Have I told you three about the mystic cursed island that is supposed to be around here?” He asked. All three shook their head in unison.
“It is a story that my father told me, and his father before him. No one knows when the story actually started. Thousands of years ago there was a mystic island that was so rich with life. There was no suffering, everyone always had enough too eat. People cared for each other, if you were ever in trouble there was always someone there to help. But as the land began to grow people decided that it was becoming to big for just one king to rule over the whole land. So the king split the land into three parts giving his two brothers their own land to rule over.” The captain said taking another puff from his pipe.
“That doesn’t sound like a curse to me.” Malik put in and Ryou quickly shushed him. The captain smiled and continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted.
“The king thought that his brothers would have the same views he had. And they would all live in peace. But as time passed the first kings of the land passed away, their sons taking the thrown. And with each generation the new kings began to loose sight of what had made the land so wonderful.”
Yugi shifted in his seat listening with wide eyes. Malik looked thoughtful as he listened to the story. He was a little surprised at well he could imagine the land. He could almost smell the wind blowing through the trees as he closed his eyes making the picture more vivid in his mind.
“The people of the land began to live in fear. Unsure of when one of the other two kings would attack. Innocent people being caught in the middle or wars that seemed to have been started for no reason at all. The kings unable to even remember why they were fighting. So the people did the only thing they could to save their land. They called a witch from the south and she put a curse on the kings, and the land.”
“What….what was the curse?” Yugi asked softly wanting to know, but part of him knew he wouldn’t like it.
“To be locked within darkness.” The captain looked thoughtful for a moment or two. “To bring darkness is to live in darkness. Feel pain yet feel nothing at all.” The captain looked at the three boys. “That is the curse. The story goes that the three kings were cursed to remain on the island trapped there while all their people were free to leave. Unable to find or feel love, and unable to die.” The captain stopped when he heard Ryou sniff and saw the silver haired boy wipe his eyes.
“Sorry…I just can’t picture someone living like that.”
“Me neither.” Yugi said also looking a little upset about the story.
“It is a terrible way to live. Dying would be much better then that. But the kings did bring it down upon themselves. They caused a lot of pain and suffering. But, there is more to the story.” He said smiling at them. “It is said that when the kings are able to feel love, and show kindness to another living being they will be free from the curse, and the land will once again be restored to light.”
“So?” Malik asked. “Was it ever restored to light?” The captain laughed.
“No one knows. There are people who claim to have seen the island, and some who even claim to have been trapped there for years. But most of them are the same people who claim to have seen mermaids and unicorns.” The captain laughed again as he said this. The three boys smiled at him watching as the captain stood up.
“Well, I think it’s just about time that I get ready for the party as well. It should be starting soon, why don’t you boys go over and watch them finish setting up?” He suggested. Ryou nodded and stood up.
“Thank you for the story captain.” He said smiling he left the room. Malik and Yugi also thanked the captain and left closing the door behind them. As the door shut the captain’s smile faded and he lowered his head sighing deeply.
“Are you sure it has to be them?” He asked turning around to face the old woman that was now standing in the room. “they are so innocent, it would kill me to see them corrupted.”
“The darkness is spreading.” The woman said. “Had I known they would be this stubborn I never would have cursed them like this.”
“Well, for what they did, I’d say the punishment fit the crime.”
“You people and your modern sayings. I shall never understand them. But aye, I do agree that it is what they deserved. And it is through their own stubbornness that it has lasted as long as it has. But the darkness has started feeding from them. It is no longer in my control. Those three boys are our last hope.”
“How will you get them there?” The captain asked. “I don’t think they would willingly go.”
“I will bring them there the usual way. It seems to work the best. I will promise to be more gentle this time.” She said and bowed slightly to him. “There will be peace in the land once again. And then the people may finally return to their home.” And as a wind blew through the room out of no where, the old woman was gone. The captain sighed shaking his head.
“God forgive me, and keep those boys safe.” He said before putting on his hat and leaving the cabin. In the distance he could hear the soft rolling of thunder and knew that tonight would be the night.
~~~~~
Malik, Yugi and Ryou entered the ballroom where the party was being held and were thankful that they weren’t the first people there. There were about fifteen other people there, Kenji included. Malik waved to the crew member who smiled and came over to them.
“I do hope you three will save me the honor of one dance with you.” He said making Malik smile.
“I thought at these kinds of parties guys were supposed to dance with girls?” Malik asked grinning at Kenji who floundered for a bit trying to think of something to say. Ryou rolled his eyes and elbowed Malik in the side.
“Don’t worry about it.” Ryou reassured Kenji. “I for one would love to dance with you later.” He said and Kenji nodded and smiled at Ryou before returning to his post.
“Aww, why’d you go and do that Ryou?” Malik asked.
“Because, you torment me and Yugi enough, you don’t need to start tormenting people who are still practically strangers.”
“Oh, you’re no fun.” Malik huffed and watched the door as more people started to come into the room. By the time the room was full Malik was sure that every single person in the room had stared at the three of them for at least two minutes. And a lot of them were still staring. The music had started playing and Malik sighed leaning against the wall.
“What’s wrong Malik?” Yugi asked. “I thought you were going to dance?”
“I can’t dance to this. It’s not my kind of music. I’ll wait a bit before making a suggestion or two to the band.” Malik said and then caught Ryou’s eye. “And don’t say a word, I promise I’ll be good.” He said seeing Ryou with his mouth open ready to say something. Ryou immodestly snapped his mouth shut and nodded.
It was nearly an hour before Malik saw the captain come into the party and take his seat at the head table. It was about this time that Malik had had enough with the nonsense classical type music and headed over to the band. They immediately sopped playing seeing Malik walking over. Malik leaned over and whispered something to the man who smiled and nodded looking at his fellow members they all took the hint.
Malik turned and went back to the dance floor that was still fairly crowded even though the music had stopped. Malik didn’t care, he knew once he started dancing people would clear a spot for him. The music started up again and Malik closed his eyes listening to it. It was almost the same as what they had been playing, but there seemed to be more of an Egyptian tone to it now. Malik smiled and began dancing. Sure enough within minutes people were clearing out of the way making a circle around Malik as the blond Egyptian boy danced loosing himself in the music. Ryou and Yugi stood by and watched smiling at each other before moving out to join Malik on the dance floor. They weren’t as good as Malik was, but they had learned a bit from their best friend having grown up with him.
Malik smiled more when he felt the presence of Ryou and Yugi next to him. If people hadn’t been talking about them before this, they sure as hell would now. The music ended all to soon for Malik’s taste. Opening his eyes he smiled at Ryou who smiled back at him then ruffled Yugi’s hair. The room burst into applause making all three boy’s flush with embarrassment. Malik hadn’t really expected the WHOLE room to be watching. The people on the dance floor yes, but not the whole room. And it was only when Malik looked around did he realize that everyone had actually gotten OFF the dance floor while the three boys danced.
“I think that’s enough fun for one night.” The captain said smiling as he came over to the three boys. “That was marvelous boys. Perhaps when we make port I can talk to the owner of the boat and have him hire you three as performers.” He said. “You’d be able to come on this trip every time we set sail.” He said.
“As lovely as that sounds, I think I’d get a little sick of all the water.” Malik said laughing a little.
“We’ll still consider it thought.” Ryou put in. The captain nodded and headed back to his table. Ryou looked at Malik and Yugi.
“I suggest we leave before the other guests do. After that performance.”
“I think that is a good idea.” Yugi said and Malik nodded his agreement.
“Alright. We’ll make our way back to the door.” Malik said. And half an hour later the three boys had managed to slip from the room pretty much unnoticed. As they left the room however they wished they hadn’t. The moment the door to the room closed a wave washed over the boat soaking all three of them. Ryou shrieked in surprise at suddenly being drown with near freezing water.
“I think we should get back to the room quickly!” Malik said holding onto the railing as the boat started rocking. The thunder and lightening mixed with the sound of the waves. Ryou made sure Yugi was in front of him before he also grabbed onto the railing and they slowly made their way back to their room. Half way there however the storm seemed to be getting stronger as wave after wave washed over the three boys who slipped on the wet deck but still managed to keep their hold on the railing. That was until Yugi let out a high pitched scream that was barely heard over the sound of yet another wave washing over the boat.
“YUGI!!!” Malik and Ryou screamed as they watched in horror as their friend was washed over board. Their fear for their friend was short lived as another wave washed over them their hands already loose on the railing and they too were washed into the sea. And the boat sailed on, unaware that it had just lost three of it’s passengers.
Malik nodded. “Yeah, even when my sister moved back to Egypt. She let me stay with Yugi so I could finish up school.”
“I see.” The captain said looking thoughtful as he began too eat as well. Malik watched him and couldn’t help but frown. The captain seemed to be thinking about something that was obviously worrying him quite a lot.
“I don’t mean to pry.” Malik said. “But is everything okay?” The captain looked like he had been caught off guard by Malik’s question then laughed.
“Am I that obvious?”
“No, I’m just really good at reading people.” Malik said. Ryou looked at Malik then back at the captain.
“Don’t worry. I was just thinking about a bad weather report I got. But I set a new course so there should be nothing to worry about.” He said and finished eating. Malik didn’t look quite convinced but dropped it and finished his food as well. It wasn’t long before they were all done and the captain sat back in his chair closing his eyes and relaxing a bit.
“Are you going to tell us another story?” Yugi asked braking the silence. The captain opened his eyes and looked at Yugi who looked eager to hear one of the captain’s tall tails. Looking at the other two he smiled when he received the same look from them as well.
“You boy’s really enjoy stories.” He said leaning over and picking up his pipe lighting it he took a few good puffs closing his eyes again trying to think of a good story. “Let’s see…Have I told you three about the mystic cursed island that is supposed to be around here?” He asked. All three shook their head in unison.
“It is a story that my father told me, and his father before him. No one knows when the story actually started. Thousands of years ago there was a mystic island that was so rich with life. There was no suffering, everyone always had enough too eat. People cared for each other, if you were ever in trouble there was always someone there to help. But as the land began to grow people decided that it was becoming to big for just one king to rule over the whole land. So the king split the land into three parts giving his two brothers their own land to rule over.” The captain said taking another puff from his pipe.
“That doesn’t sound like a curse to me.” Malik put in and Ryou quickly shushed him. The captain smiled and continued as if he hadn’t been interrupted.
“The king thought that his brothers would have the same views he had. And they would all live in peace. But as time passed the first kings of the land passed away, their sons taking the thrown. And with each generation the new kings began to loose sight of what had made the land so wonderful.”
Yugi shifted in his seat listening with wide eyes. Malik looked thoughtful as he listened to the story. He was a little surprised at well he could imagine the land. He could almost smell the wind blowing through the trees as he closed his eyes making the picture more vivid in his mind.
“The people of the land began to live in fear. Unsure of when one of the other two kings would attack. Innocent people being caught in the middle or wars that seemed to have been started for no reason at all. The kings unable to even remember why they were fighting. So the people did the only thing they could to save their land. They called a witch from the south and she put a curse on the kings, and the land.”
“What….what was the curse?” Yugi asked softly wanting to know, but part of him knew he wouldn’t like it.
“To be locked within darkness.” The captain looked thoughtful for a moment or two. “To bring darkness is to live in darkness. Feel pain yet feel nothing at all.” The captain looked at the three boys. “That is the curse. The story goes that the three kings were cursed to remain on the island trapped there while all their people were free to leave. Unable to find or feel love, and unable to die.” The captain stopped when he heard Ryou sniff and saw the silver haired boy wipe his eyes.
“Sorry…I just can’t picture someone living like that.”
“Me neither.” Yugi said also looking a little upset about the story.
“It is a terrible way to live. Dying would be much better then that. But the kings did bring it down upon themselves. They caused a lot of pain and suffering. But, there is more to the story.” He said smiling at them. “It is said that when the kings are able to feel love, and show kindness to another living being they will be free from the curse, and the land will once again be restored to light.”
“So?” Malik asked. “Was it ever restored to light?” The captain laughed.
“No one knows. There are people who claim to have seen the island, and some who even claim to have been trapped there for years. But most of them are the same people who claim to have seen mermaids and unicorns.” The captain laughed again as he said this. The three boys smiled at him watching as the captain stood up.
“Well, I think it’s just about time that I get ready for the party as well. It should be starting soon, why don’t you boys go over and watch them finish setting up?” He suggested. Ryou nodded and stood up.
“Thank you for the story captain.” He said smiling he left the room. Malik and Yugi also thanked the captain and left closing the door behind them. As the door shut the captain’s smile faded and he lowered his head sighing deeply.
“Are you sure it has to be them?” He asked turning around to face the old woman that was now standing in the room. “they are so innocent, it would kill me to see them corrupted.”
“The darkness is spreading.” The woman said. “Had I known they would be this stubborn I never would have cursed them like this.”
“Well, for what they did, I’d say the punishment fit the crime.”
“You people and your modern sayings. I shall never understand them. But aye, I do agree that it is what they deserved. And it is through their own stubbornness that it has lasted as long as it has. But the darkness has started feeding from them. It is no longer in my control. Those three boys are our last hope.”
“How will you get them there?” The captain asked. “I don’t think they would willingly go.”
“I will bring them there the usual way. It seems to work the best. I will promise to be more gentle this time.” She said and bowed slightly to him. “There will be peace in the land once again. And then the people may finally return to their home.” And as a wind blew through the room out of no where, the old woman was gone. The captain sighed shaking his head.
“God forgive me, and keep those boys safe.” He said before putting on his hat and leaving the cabin. In the distance he could hear the soft rolling of thunder and knew that tonight would be the night.
Malik, Yugi and Ryou entered the ballroom where the party was being held and were thankful that they weren’t the first people there. There were about fifteen other people there, Kenji included. Malik waved to the crew member who smiled and came over to them.
“I do hope you three will save me the honor of one dance with you.” He said making Malik smile.
“I thought at these kinds of parties guys were supposed to dance with girls?” Malik asked grinning at Kenji who floundered for a bit trying to think of something to say. Ryou rolled his eyes and elbowed Malik in the side.
“Don’t worry about it.” Ryou reassured Kenji. “I for one would love to dance with you later.” He said and Kenji nodded and smiled at Ryou before returning to his post.
“Aww, why’d you go and do that Ryou?” Malik asked.
“Because, you torment me and Yugi enough, you don’t need to start tormenting people who are still practically strangers.”
“Oh, you’re no fun.” Malik huffed and watched the door as more people started to come into the room. By the time the room was full Malik was sure that every single person in the room had stared at the three of them for at least two minutes. And a lot of them were still staring. The music had started playing and Malik sighed leaning against the wall.
“What’s wrong Malik?” Yugi asked. “I thought you were going to dance?”
“I can’t dance to this. It’s not my kind of music. I’ll wait a bit before making a suggestion or two to the band.” Malik said and then caught Ryou’s eye. “And don’t say a word, I promise I’ll be good.” He said seeing Ryou with his mouth open ready to say something. Ryou immodestly snapped his mouth shut and nodded.
It was nearly an hour before Malik saw the captain come into the party and take his seat at the head table. It was about this time that Malik had had enough with the nonsense classical type music and headed over to the band. They immediately sopped playing seeing Malik walking over. Malik leaned over and whispered something to the man who smiled and nodded looking at his fellow members they all took the hint.
Malik turned and went back to the dance floor that was still fairly crowded even though the music had stopped. Malik didn’t care, he knew once he started dancing people would clear a spot for him. The music started up again and Malik closed his eyes listening to it. It was almost the same as what they had been playing, but there seemed to be more of an Egyptian tone to it now. Malik smiled and began dancing. Sure enough within minutes people were clearing out of the way making a circle around Malik as the blond Egyptian boy danced loosing himself in the music. Ryou and Yugi stood by and watched smiling at each other before moving out to join Malik on the dance floor. They weren’t as good as Malik was, but they had learned a bit from their best friend having grown up with him.
Malik smiled more when he felt the presence of Ryou and Yugi next to him. If people hadn’t been talking about them before this, they sure as hell would now. The music ended all to soon for Malik’s taste. Opening his eyes he smiled at Ryou who smiled back at him then ruffled Yugi’s hair. The room burst into applause making all three boy’s flush with embarrassment. Malik hadn’t really expected the WHOLE room to be watching. The people on the dance floor yes, but not the whole room. And it was only when Malik looked around did he realize that everyone had actually gotten OFF the dance floor while the three boys danced.
“I think that’s enough fun for one night.” The captain said smiling as he came over to the three boys. “That was marvelous boys. Perhaps when we make port I can talk to the owner of the boat and have him hire you three as performers.” He said. “You’d be able to come on this trip every time we set sail.” He said.
“As lovely as that sounds, I think I’d get a little sick of all the water.” Malik said laughing a little.
“We’ll still consider it thought.” Ryou put in. The captain nodded and headed back to his table. Ryou looked at Malik and Yugi.
“I suggest we leave before the other guests do. After that performance.”
“I think that is a good idea.” Yugi said and Malik nodded his agreement.
“Alright. We’ll make our way back to the door.” Malik said. And half an hour later the three boys had managed to slip from the room pretty much unnoticed. As they left the room however they wished they hadn’t. The moment the door to the room closed a wave washed over the boat soaking all three of them. Ryou shrieked in surprise at suddenly being drown with near freezing water.
“I think we should get back to the room quickly!” Malik said holding onto the railing as the boat started rocking. The thunder and lightening mixed with the sound of the waves. Ryou made sure Yugi was in front of him before he also grabbed onto the railing and they slowly made their way back to their room. Half way there however the storm seemed to be getting stronger as wave after wave washed over the three boys who slipped on the wet deck but still managed to keep their hold on the railing. That was until Yugi let out a high pitched scream that was barely heard over the sound of yet another wave washing over the boat.
“YUGI!!!” Malik and Ryou screamed as they watched in horror as their friend was washed over board. Their fear for their friend was short lived as another wave washed over them their hands already loose on the railing and they too were washed into the sea. And the boat sailed on, unaware that it had just lost three of it’s passengers.
