Marik was once again sitting in the office of Joey’s father Murdock. After the humans at the outpost building had contacted the hunter base, Marik had vanished from the building and reappeared at the base. He was waiting for both Joey and Murdock to arrive back from a meeting with other hunters. He knew that humans probably wouldn’t ever accept him, but he didn’t care. He was going to protect Serenity, even if the humans said that he couldn’t.

‘If I wanted to, I could take her and flee this place. But then I’d have these dam hunters on my ass all the time. And that wasn’t why I helped built this city for them. Even if the humans don’t like me, I will protect them,’ thought Marik as he closed his eyes and sighed. ‘And if it is him that is attacking the humans, then I have to stay here. I have to destroy him this time, no matter what.’

Murdock and Joey walked in to see that Marik seemed to be resting in the chair. They were about to leave when he spoke.

“So what have you and the other hunters decided?” Joey and Murdock turned to him and walked into the room. Murdock sat behind his desk while Joey sat next to him.

“We have decided that you will be aloud into the city on one condition,” began Murdock. Marik opened his eyes and sat strait up in his chair. “The condition is that, if we let you into the city, you are to become a part of the Vampire Hunter corp. group. Do you accept this Marik?”

“Why not. I was going to do a little vampire hunting any ways. This just saves me time, and I am able to protect Serenity and you humans while I’m at it,” he paused for a moment and looked Murdock strait in the eye. “I would like any and all information that you have on this new bread of vampire.” Murdock and Joey both looked shocked that him being an ancient vampire, he would even know about the new bread of vampires.

Marik saw that shocked expression and laughed. “I could tell they were not like the old vampires that I helped create so many thousands of years ago. You hunters can tell the difference too can’t you?” They both nodded their heads and continued to listen in.

Marik continued when he saw that they were giving him their undivided attention once again. “These new vampires seem to be quite a bit stronger than your average vampire. But it’s not just their strength that’s been increased. All of their vampiric abilities have been increased ten fold.”

“Were the vampires that were at the outpost new breads then?” Marik nodded his head and smiled. “I see. Then we can benefit from each other. I know you have ways that will kill these new breads faster and better than we do, and we have information about them you don’t yet. Like where they came from.”

“Then we have an agreement Murdock?” Murdock stood up and held out his hand to the vampire. Marik stood up from his chair and shook the hand of the human in front of him.

“I rather like you Murdock. You are a human that I could get used to,” Marik said to the elder man before him. Murdock looked surprised to hear him say that to him, but he could only smile.

“Same goes for you Marik. Glad to have you with us.”

Serenity was once again on the surface of the ruin earth. She had sunk out of her house again to look at the sky. Even though the geofront had a sun and a night sky, it was all just artificial. Someone had made it long ago, and was able to make a fake sun and stars, and moon so the people of the underground city wouldn’t really be so disturbed of being underground.

She sighed as she lay on the roof of a ruined building. How she wished that she could have seen what the world was like before all of this. She heard movement on the ground below and sat up so fast that she fell of the roof. She screamed but stopped when she felt her body being held up from the ground by a pair of strong arms. She looked up at the face of her savior and blushed a deep red.

“You really should be more careful you know,” he said as he placed her on the ground. He was a foot taller than she was and she had to looked up at him every time. He smiled down at her.

“Sorry about that. I heard something moving down her and lost my footing,” she apologized to him. He laughed.

“No need to apologized Serenity. It was my fault anyways. When you had left your house, I followed you to make sure you were safe. The movement you heard down here was me,” he explained to her.

“Oh. Well thanks Marik for saving me again.” He nodded his head and held out his arm to her.

“Would you like to go somewhere Serenity?” She had no clue where they were going to go since the earth had been destroyed. But she took the offered limb.

“But where are we going to go?” she asked. She was curious to know where he was going to take her. “I was told that all life had been destroy on the surface years ago.”

“Don’t worry, you’ll like this place. And please don’t be too alarmed about what is about to happen.” She gave him a rather confused look. But she didn’t have to wait for long. She almost screamed as black shadows engulfed them both. In only a matter of seconds, they were gone from the area near the underground city, and in a lush forest with the night sky above them.

Serenity looked on in awe at the wonderful sight before her. Marik let go of her arm so she could ran closer to the forest to get a better look. Like the one in the geofront, it was rather large, but it seemed to go on forever.

“I didn’t know somewhere like this was even capable of growing on the surface,” she said in awe and wonder. Marik could only smile at her happiness. Ever since the vampires had taken over, he had used his powers to save some of the former life that was still left. He had even brought humans here to live. But they were in a deeper part of the woods.

‘I think I’d be able to live with this girl if she would let me. She’s so innocent when it comes to the matters of the world.’ Marik frowned when he thought how that innocence would be lost in the years to come. ‘With all that I know will happen, she’ll lose that innocence faster than she should. But the vampires won’t stop until they either have her, or they’re destroy.’

“Hey Marik,” Serenity called from up above. He looked up too see that she had climbed a tree and was smiling at him. He shook his head in amusement and decided to join her. Serenity almost fell out of the tree when she saw Marik jump up into the tree and sit beside her. She giggled at him and hung upside down on the tree branch they were on.

“So why did you bring me here anyways?”

Marik thought about it for a moment before answering her question. “It seemed that you wanted to get away from the city and anywhere near it for a while.”

“Yeah I really did want to get away for a while,” she sighed and brought herself back to a sitting position next to Marik.

“But why though?”

“It’s just that ever since I was little I couldn’t go anywhere without someone following me. It’s because of a birth mark. They told me when I was older that I would one day be the person to save the world, or destroy it. So I can’t do anything or go anywhere without someone following me.” She stopped her explanation for a few minutes before continuing.

“It was Joey and the others that helped me. Yami said that he and his squad of hunters would protect me. My father was hesitant about it, but since they were the best hunters, he aloud it. But if Joey or one of the others didn’t go with me, I couldn’t leave the house. Even though hunters can keep most vampires out, one or two do get in from time to time.”

“Sounds like you’ve had a rough life.” Serenity gave a weak laugh and nodded her head.

“Yeah I have. But I got so fed up with it that I decided to sneak out one night. That’s the night that you and I first met and you…” she couldn’t bring herself to finish her sentence because of the deep blush on her face.

“Kissed you and saved your life,” he finished for her. She nodded her head and moved a bit closer to him.

“Ever since that night I’ve been meaning to thank you for what you did. But I don’t know what I should do.” Marik placed his hand on her chin and held her face there.

“You don’t need to thank me Serenity. I’m just glad that you weren’t hurt,” he said with a sincere smile.

“But…” Marik placed a finger on her lips to silence her words.

“I mean what I said Serenity. You don’t have to thank me.” Serenity gave a sincere smile of her own and leaned in to embrace the vampire in front of her.

“Thank you for saving me Marik,” she whispered before she fell asleep in his arms a few minutes later. Marik shook his head and teleported them back to the underground city. Since he didn’t want to be questioned about why Serenity was asleep in his arms, he took her right back to her room in the Wheeler mansion.

He placed her in her bed and pulled the covers over her. He placed a kiss on her forehead before vanishing from the room.

:3 years later:

Marik was fighting off a horde of ghouls while protecting Serenity. He was right about what he knew. For the past three years vampires had come after Serenity in the underground city. Marik and the others were able to stop them, but they were growing in numbers, and there seemed to be no end to them. Serenity had been captured a few times, but Marik was able to save her whenever she was.

Murdock was getting worried. All the vampires that had come before were not the new breads. But now that’s all that seemed to come at them. Marik was getting worried as well. He knew that an ancient vampire had awakened like he had, but where it was, he did not know. He was able to feel the dark energy that it was creating, and he enjoyed it. He would have a real fight on his hands so, and he would have fun like the old days.

The ghouls were another thing that troubled Marik. The numbers that they were facing were impossible. Ghouls were humans that weren’t virgins. And he knew that not a single human in the undergrounds city had been drained of blood. So these ghouls were made like the new bread of vampires were; created through dark magic.
Serenity had gotten better in fighting as well. She was right beside him destroying ghouls left and right. She had grown into a more beautiful woman than what she was three years ago. Marik and Serenity’s relationship was also going on a smooth path despite what her father and the other hunters said. But they didn’t interfere with their relationship since they knew that if she was to save them, a vampire would be needed. And she seemed to be in love with him and him with her.

They had had sex or anything or that nature, but they did spend a lot of time together. Marik knew that she wasn’t ready for a sexual relationship yet. But she would be one day and he would wait for it. But for now, he would protect the one that he loved and his new friends.

“Hey guys, how are you holding up?” Marik yelled to the others.

“We’re doing just fine here Marik,” one of them yelled back. They all wanted to finish up as fast as they could. Tonight was a big night for Serenity, and they didn’t want her to miss it. Marik knew about it too, but he wasn’t really welcome there. But that wouldn’t stop him. Murdock had asked him to be there tonight.

‘It’s time I end this now!’ he thought as he sheathed his sword and raised his hands to his face. He held them slightly apart from each cheek and had that insane smile on his lips once again. Serenity saw this and used the signal that they had come up with when they learned some of the things that Marik was bale to do. Everyone got on the ground as a wave of dark energy swept through the army of ghouls, destroying them all.

The dust of the ghouls hit the ground, and everyone on the ground. But they never did mind getting dirty when it came to hunting. Marik had become one of the best hunters that was there, and everyone was happy that he was there, even if they didn’t show it.

“Well that take cares of that. Shall we get going then?” Marik asked as the others walked up to him and Serenity.

“Yeah. I need a shower now,” said Serenity as she got up and dusted of most of the dust from herself.

“Yeah, I think we all need one now sis,” said Joey as he sheathed his sword and gun. They all started to head back to the underground city when a familiar scent caught and stopped.

“Aren’t you coming Marik?” asked Joey as he and the others stopped.

“Not yet. I’ll catch up in a bit,” he replied. Joey shrugged his shoulders and left with the others. Serenity stayed behind though. She was the one who knew him the best and she knew he was worried about something.

“What is it Marik?” she whisper to him.

“I caught a familiar scent after the ghouls were destroyed,” he whispered back. Serenity got behind him and put her arms around his waist. “Someone’s out there right now, watching us. But who? Is it him?”

“Who’s him?” asked a confused Serenity. She had heard him use that word to describe someone before, but had never asked about it.

“Someone I knew long ago. If it is him, then we’re in a lot of trouble if I can’t get back to full power.”

“But what is his name Marik?” Marik didn’t want to tell her, but he knew he had to. If it was him, she needed to know his name incase he got a hold of her.

“His name is Dartz. And he’s also one of the ancient vampires of this world. If he gets you Serenity, he’ll force you to become his mate, rape you, and destroy the rest of humanity,” he explained to her. Serenity was shaken by his words, but knew that Marik wouldn’t let anything happen to her.

“We should be getting back now or your brother will get pissed off again.” She nodded her head and the two walked back to the underground city. Marik knew Dartz was out there, but where, he wasn’t certain.

Serenity stared at herself in the mirror of her room. Her hair was tied back and braided. She wore a long blue dress that was made for dancing and moving around easily, but it was beautiful none the less. She wore a gold ring on her right hand and a necklace. How she hated dressing up. But she knew that this night was important. This was the night where she would choose who she would marry. She knew who it was already, but she knew that he might now be there.

Marik was a vampire and the people of the city didn’t like him very much. They put up with him since he was a hunter, and helped protect them from other vampires. Serenity was also worried about the one man that had asked her father for her to marry him. Murdock of course said that it was her choice not his. The guy of course got rather pissed but didn’t say anything.

She sighed as she sat down on her bed. Joey would be here any minute to escort her to the party that was being held at their mansion. Seto and Kisara arrived a bit late since they were they lived the furthest from the Wheeler mansion. Yugi and Tea had to get a baby sitter for their three year old daughter. Joey and Mai also did the same thing. Tristan and Duke arrived with Ryou and Bakura since they lived close to one another, Duke gave the twins a ride to the party. Yami had arrived with Yugi and Tea since they all lived in the same house.

“I’m going to go and get Serenity Mai,” said Joey a few minutes later after they had arrived. He left his wife to go get his little sister. He clmibed the stairs and stopped in front of her door. Joey knocked on her door and entered when it was opened for him. He couldn’t help but smile when he saw her.

“It’s time sis. Let’s get this over with huh?” he laughed a little and held out his arm for her.

“Do you think that Marik will be coming Joey?”

“I don’t know Serenity. But If he does, I’m sure he’ll try not to be to late for the party.” The walked down the hallway and when they got half ways down the stairs, the music stopped. Serenity was nervous as hell, but she tried not to show it. She knew that if Marik was here with her, she wouldn’t be as nervous as she was.

Everyone in the room clapped when she began to come down the stairway with Joey.

‘Looks like he won’t be coming after all. Even though this night is important to me, it also important for him.’ Her train of thought was broken when the doors to the mansion opened up. Everyone turned to see who was there, and gasped could be heard all over. Serenity looked up to see Marik standing in the door way wearing a suit for the party. He wore a golden necklace with an eye in the center of it and a red tie. He of course still wore black and he wasn't wearing his usally white gloves.

Serenity walked up to him after he had closed the doors and stood waiting for her to come down.

Marik held out his gloveless hand to her and asked: “Care to dance my love?”
