chapter three
“Joey. Wake up Joey.”
“What the hell…?” the blond blinked groggily as the effects of the chloroform wore off.
“Are you alright?” Yugi asked worriedly.
“Yuge? Oh my god, what’s going on?” He realised her was tied to a chair next to the bed Yugi was on.
“I dunno. Duke brought you here about ten minutes ago.”
“Oh yeah. I felt sick after seeing dat video so I went outside for some air. Then he came up and I can’t remember anything else.”
“Y… you saw the v… video?”
Joey nodded.
“So you know how disgusting I am?” Yugi turned away.
“Hey Yuge, you ain’t disgusting. Duke is disgusting for doing this.”
“I’m dirty and tainted. No wonder Yami can’t love me anymore.”
“What are you talking about? Duke’s messin’ with ya head Yuge. I’m telling ya, Yami still loves you. He’s gonna get you outta this.”
Yugi turned back to his friend and smiled, “I’m sorry you got dragged into it.”
“Don’t apologise. It isn’t your fault.”
“Well, well, well. The dog is awake.”
“Shut up Duke!” Joey growled.
“Now is that any way to talk to your master?”
“You aren’t my master.”
“Oh yes, Seto Kaiba is. Isn’t he? Well, I hate to tell you this but Seto belongs to someone else.”
“You stay away from him!”
Duke laughed, “Me? No, not me. My heart belongs to Yami.”
“Let me go!” Joey tugged ineffectively at the rope around his wrists.
“We can’t do that Joey.” Another voice said as someone entered the room.
“What the hell! You’re helping him?” Joey exclaimed when he saw who Duke’s partner in crime was.
“Yes, I am.”

“Puppy!” Seto called as he opened the door, “Are you feeling better now?”
He looked up and down the street and when he didn’t see Joey anywhere he began to panic.
“Puppy! Where are you!”
“Why are you being so loud Kaiba?” Yami asked.
“I can’t find Joey.”
Yami glanced around and saw the blood stain on the pavement, and Seto followed his line of vision to see it too.
“NO! PUPPY!” Seto started shouting, “JOEY! WHERE ARE YOU! PUPPY!”
“Kaiba.” Yami put his hand on Seto’s arm but the brunet threw him aside.
“No… not Joey.”
“What’s going on?” Tea asked.
“Something’s happened to Joey. He’s not here and there’s blood all over the path that wasn’t there before.”
“Oh no.” She thought for a moment, “Tristan left five minutes ago, maybe he saw something.”
Yami looked up, “Go call him and see if Joey was still out here when he left Tea.”
“Sure.”
Yami laid his hand back on Seto’s arm and this time he did nothing to remove it.
“Do you think he was taken too?” Seto asked quietly.
“I don’t know Kaiba. I hope not.”
Tea returned a few minutes later, “Hey, there’s no answer at his place so he’s probably not back yet. I think we should go inside.”
Seto nodded silently and followed Yami inside.

“I have to go now Duke, before anyone becomes suspicious.”
“Fine, fine. I’ll make the video and get it to Yami.”
“Great.”
Joey glared as the person helping Duke stalked out of the room, “What video?”
“Well, unfortunately for you our plan won’t work unless Kaiba thinks his precious puppy is dead. So I guess we’re going to have to kill you.”
“What plan. What are you gonna do to Seto?”
“I’m not going to do anything. My friend is going to be there to comfort Kaiba after he loses his beloved boyfriend and, when the time is right, he’ll help him move on.”
“Don’t either of you freaks dare go near him!”
“Oh shut up, we have a movie to make.”
Duke stuck a needle in Joey’s neck and stood back, waiting for the drug to work.

Back at Yugi’s house the phone rang again.
“Hello?” Tea answered, with Yami being too out of it to.
“Hey Tea, did you call me?”
“Yeah. Something’s happened.”
“What, is everything okay?”
“Joey’s gone missing. There was no sign of him outside and there was blood everywhere.”
“WHAT!”
“I know. It’s horrible.” Tea let out a choked sob.
“I’m coming back over there.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I’m coming anyway.”
“Okay. Hey, did you see anything when you left Tristan?”
“No, I didn’t. I can’t believe I didn’t notice any blood or anything.”
“Oh, well see you soon I guess. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Tea hung up the phone and walked back into the kitchen to make everyone some coffee.

“WAKE UP!” A voice yelled loudly in Joey’s ear.
He tried to sit up but didn’t get very far as he was strapped down on a metal table.
“What are you doing?” He snarled.
“Well, I hate to tell you this dog, but you’re more useful to me dead.” Duke laughed
Joey’s eyes widened when he realised he was hooked up to a heart monitor that was rapidly beeping as he became more and more scared.
“Now dog, I promise this won’t hurt a bit.” Duke said as he picked a needle and syringe filled with a pale blue liquid.
He stood in front of the camera and concealed Joey from view, “Now Kaiba, let me explain what’s going to happen. This here is a heart monitor, as long as Joey’s alive it’ll keep beeping like it’s doing now, but if he were to die it would start a steady tone. And just in case you don’t believe it, I’ve also got him hooked up to this machine which will light up red if he stops breathing.”
He stepped aside so that the camera could see Joey.
“Is there anything you’d like to say to your boyfriend before you die?”
“Seto, I love you so much. Be careful, you can’t trust—” He was cut off as Duke duct taped his mouth shut.
“Whoops, you almost let slip one of my little secrets. Well, it’s been nice knowing you Joey but this is where you say goodbye.” He slowly pulled back Joey’s sleeve till it was just past his elbow and gently inserted the needle.
Joey whimpered as the blue liquid was injected into his bloodstream, it felt like fire. He thrashed against the straps as the burning feeling spread across his body and pain tore through him. He let out a ear piercing scream through the duct tape and then suddenly went limp and silent, the only sound was the steady beep of the heart monitor as the light about him flashed red.
