Chapter 3

Morning had come and gone and Ryou was in the kitchen making some soup for lunch. He had checked on Bakura earlier and he was still fast asleep wrapped up in his blankets. He looked so adorable like that, that he couldn’t wake him up. It seemed that his fever was almost gone. He thought over what happened last night and it seemed odd, they almost had a normal conversation. It was nice to actually talk normally without having to watch what he said, it also would have been better if he was fully awake instead of half asleep. But at least it was a start. Hopefully things were starting to look up, but he knew better then to put too much faith in that small hope. However it was nice to dream of such things and he did that quiet often. Dreams where Bakura wasn’t haunted by his past, and where Ryou no longer had to fear his temper or what he could do when he was angry.

He stirred the soup before turning off the stove. The soup was ready so he began to dish it out in the bowls waiting on the counter. He pulled some spoons from the drawer and put them in the bowls. With that done lunch was ready. All that was missing was a sleeping Bakura. Hopefully he could convince him to eat even if it was just a small sip.

“Ryou?”

He turned around to see Bakura standing in the doorway. He looked tired and must have just crawled out of bed.

“What’s this?” he asked sleepily.

“It’s lunch,” Ryou answered walking toward Bakura. He placed his hand on Bakura’s forehead. His skin felt soft and cool benight his touch. “Itks lks like your fever is gone, do you think that you could eat something?”

Bakura was stunned. Ryou had never approached him like that before. He appeared so open that it left him wondering if what he thought could be true. The way that he was acting now and last night was so different from before. In a way it gave him hope that maybe he could change things for the better between them but maybe it could work if he tried and wanted it hard enough. After all it couldn’t hurt to try?

“Bakura?”

“What?”

“Would you like to eat or would you want to lay down some more?”

Both options were so appealing to Bakura but he figured that he was more hungry then tired.

“I think I’ll eat since it smells go.”

Ryou blushed as Bakura sat down to eat at the table. It was only about soup but he couldn’t help it, Bakura had never said anything nice like that to him before, it felt nice. He went over to the counter and picked up the bowls of soup. He placed one in front of Bakura then took his set across from him. They both began to eat. There was an odd silence between them, neither not knowing what to say but both wanting to say something. It was odd but nice as no harsh words or actions were present. It was nice but he was beginning to wonder if everything was all right. Ryou finished his soup and watched Bakura for a moment. He looked rather focussed on his soup as if it was about to shed some divine inspiration on the ancient spirit. He couldn’t help but smile as he picked up his bowl. Perhaps there was a chance for things to change between them. But perhaps it would be best to take things slow so there would be no misunderstandings betweeem. em.

“Would you like some more soup Bakura?” he asked. Bakura looked up at a smiling Ryou.

He was shocked. Ryou never smiled at him at all before and now here he was smiling. It lit up his face in a way he never noticed before. It was amazing. Just looking at it made him feel better. He couldn’t seem to get over the fact that Ryou would actually smile at him, and hopefully he hid it well.

“Sure it tastes good today.” He noticed Ryou blush as he picked up his bowl. His words made his react that way and Bakura was stunned. Just one simple comment had given Ryou a very nice pink hue on his normally pale skin. It had Bakura wondering what else could put a blush on his lights face. Perhaps they could give it a shot. He had a feeling that it might be worth it if he gave Ryou a chance. After all how many times in five thousand years do you get a chance at love, that is when you’re not trapped in a five thousand-year-old ring.

‘Love . . . is this what I’m feeling or is it just the beginning of that emotion?’ It was odd to think of such a thing about someone he once enjoyed hurting so much. It was a change to think of ways to please him instead of ways to bring him pain. It shocked him to think he was capable of such thought or actions. He watched Ryou put his bowl in the sink, then move to the stove to refill Bakura’s bowl. He couldn’t help but admire Ryou’s body and wonder what kind of reactions he could get from him if he started hitting on him. The next thing he knew there was a bowl of soup placed in front of him and a hand against his forehead.

“Are you sure your feeling all right, you kind of drifted off for a moment?”

“I’m fine” he replied looking at his soup.

“All right, I’ll be in the next room if you need anything.” With that he left for the livingroom. Bakura was confused. He was torn by these new emotions that had developed for Ryou and he couldn’t seem to figure out when they started. He just couldn’t seem to ignore them either. It made him feel for a change. It was something that he tried not to do, finding life easier if you didn’t have to feel the pain that came with people that you learned to care for leave you. If you kept your emotions locked up and buried deep inside you wouldn’t have to feel anything and that was how Bakura chose to live. He kept others out of his heart and only felt when he inflected pain on others, enjoying their suffering that he had caused. ng png pleasure from their pain and joy form their sadness. For his life in Egypt it was enough. For the time he was trapped with the ring it was enough. He would use those who carried the ring to do has he pleased without worrying about their welfare. But then the ring came to Ryou and slowly things began to change. He began to notice things that he once considered unimportant and useless. He saw things through Ryou’s eyes. He showed him how things could be which was perhaps the reason why he abused him so. He couldn’t stand it so he took it out on Ryou. But somewhere along the way something had happened, something had happened to make him see things differently and he didn’t even notice it going on tell recently. It worried him at first, but now he wasn’t sure. It was odd to be confused like this since he had never felt like this before. It made him feel unsure of himself in so many ways but sitting here staring at the soup that Ryou made him, he began to realise what it was that made him feel unsure. He knew now that he truly loved Ryou, his recent actions and thoughts lead him there, what made him unsure was Ryou. He had done so much to hurt him that he wondered if he could make it up to him. To show him how he really felt and maybe to try and put the past behind him and start over with Ryou by his side instead of how things are now.

Now that he knew what he planned to do Bakura began to eat his soup. After all Ryou made it for him so he planned to eat it all up. Then maybe see what Ryou was up to, but first he had to finish his lunch. The soup had gotten cold while he thought but he still thought it tasted good has he finished it. Thinking about his light, and what he planne do do to make Ryou happy.
