Sea Love: The Placing

Disclaimer: You know the drill, same as before.

Chapter 3: The Placing

The next morning Yami woke to find the young beauty sitting on the balcony. If he was going to help Angel, he had to get him to the sea without breaking the laws the pharaohs before him had placed in stone.

He walked down the corridor, his cape billowing as he drew closer and closer to the solution he’d hope would work. “Yami!!”

The pharaoh turned to be bowled over by a small body. “What the...?”

“Yami how could you! How could you! I thought you loved me!”

Yami’s mind finally cleared as he looked down at Yugi sobbing on his chest. With a sigh, he laid his head back on the hard floor. “Yugi...it’s not what you think. I was confused and hurt that you were upset with me.”

Yugi looked up at him, tears in his lavender eyes. “So then you go out and buy a new slave...”

“It’s not what you think. Look, he’s upset. He won’t talk, barely eats, and I want to solve that problem by getting him out of here. After that I was going to come to you, little light,” he explained running his fingers through Yugi’s tri-colored hair.

“So...he’s not a new slave for you?” he asked, looking up at his lover hopefully.

Yami smiled and leant forward to kiss his little light. “No, little one. You are the only one for me,” he whispered softly. Yugi threw his arms around Yami, knocking back onto the floor.

“Yami, don’t you have a meeting to get to?”

Looking up over Yugi shoulder he saw Seto standing over them arms crossed over his chest, Joey giggling as he watched Yugi snuggling against Yami’s chest. Yami chuckled and sat up as he gave Yugi a kiss to the forehead. “Why don’t you and Joey go and get something to eat. I need to go to my meeting.”

Yugi looked a bit crestfallen but nodded and took off after Joey who was running down the hall to the Main Chamber. Yami chuckled to himself as he stood and he and Seto continued their walk down the hall.

Yami looked around the large conference room noting everyone was there...well, almost everyone, there was one person missing but he couldn’t postpone the meeting any longer. “Everyone, listen up. I have a proposition. The latest slave I have purchased is not well, not physically, but mentally. Every morning I awaken to see him gazing out to the horizon. In the month he’s been here, he’s only spoken twice. Once was to state his name, the second was to tell me why he’s so upset. He misses the sea.”

The men before him spoke quietly to each other not really understanding what their pharaoh wanted of them. His entire council wasn’t even there. The Head of the Guards, Guards second in Command, the Head Priest, Head Trader, and Head Blacksmith.

Yami looked at them all noting the confusion and ran his fingers through his hair. “Look, I know it’s confusing. Not everyone is here, but the reason I choose only you for this meeting is that each of you has a sea faring vessel. You take monthly trips to the Nile and travel out into sea. In fact, I never use my own ship, and since the boy wishes to return to the sea, where he came from, I have decided to give him to one of you.”

The talk in the room suddenly ceased as they looked to their pharaoh in surprise. This was a first. Everyone knew the pharaoh already had a young slave he, basically, worshipped. However, a gift from the pharaoh was something you did not take lightly, there had to be a catch.

“You are willing to give us this boy, pharaoh. What must we do in return?” the Head Trader asked slowly.

The pharaoh smiled. “Well now that the question all of you were thinking is out in the open. The only thing I want is for you to spend more time out on the Nile and the sea itself. However,” he said noting the shifting of many feet from the thought of being out at sea didn’t seem to sit well with any of them, well, all except the Head of the Guards who sat back smiling. Yami noted this, though he was confident in the man’s abilities in his work but he was not good with his slaves. In one year he’d gone through seven, each dying from a ‘mysterious illness’.

“Don’t worry, men. I already discussed this with Seto to try and find out who would be best suitable to take care of the boy,” Yami smiled and many of the men sighed in what almost sounded like relief.

“My we ask who that person is, great pharaoh?” the Head of Guards asked, sounding quite smug.

“Well, Orin, the one I have chosen is...” he began, but was rudely interrupted by a loud crash outside the meeting room’s doors. The group looked up just in time to see burly man crash through the doors and into a heap on the floor. His unruly black hair rolled down his shoulders and back in a thick man, deeply tanned skin showed the man was nowhere but outside all of the time and rarely came in out of the Egyptian sun. His bright blue eyes looked up surprised then he grinned sheepishly, standing with the aid of the massive spear he carried.

“Sorry I’m late, pharaoh. This shipment was bigger then I expected,” he chuckled and walked up to the table.

Yami sighed rubbing his temples before speaking. “Yes...anyway. The man I have chosen to take Angel under his wing is Mako,” he said gesturing to the large fisherman, the Head fisherman of Yami’s fleet.

Mako looked up curiously. “What are we talking about?”
