Chapter 3: Friendship Made

Yami’s Tent:

Yugi sat on the ground of the master Viking’s tent. He had been in Seto’s tent for awhile, but then he brought him here and told him to remain seated and not to move until Yami says so. Yugi wasn’t one to disobey, not like Malik. He chuckled a bit thinking of how Malik must be giving that other Viking a hard time. He knew Malik could take care of himself, but he worried about Ryou. That Viking that looked like him must be doing something horrible to his friend! He wished he could do something, but he was scared himself. The Viking leader seemed so cold and angry. Yugi tried not to think about what could happen to him.

His head shot up as he heard someone outside the tent flap. He held his breath, hoping it wasn’t that Viking leader. And he was right. A boy came into the tent wearing peasant clothes just like him. Maybe he was another prisoner? He had short sandy blonde hair and brown eyes. The boy placed the large bowl of water on the table and turned to Yugi. The boy smiled gently and walked over to him. The boy sat down on the floor in front of him.

“Hi, you must be Yugi.” Yugi smiled happily, realizing that this boy was English just like him!

“You speak my language!” The boy nodded happily.

“Yeah, my name’s Jou. I was captured by the Vikings a few months ago.”

“Wow, I’m so glad there are others here who are like me!”

“Yeah, I’m not the only one. My friend Tristan lived in my village and was captured the same I was. He takes care of the Viking’s horses.”

“What do you do? Are you a servant for the Viking leader?”

“Yami? No, I serve Seto. That’s why I’m here. He told me to come and talk to you, show the ropes and things like that. You must be scared out of your wits, right?” Yugi nodded frantically. “Well, you don’t have anything to worry about. Yami may come off as an evil, angry Lord, but he’s actually decent when you get to know him.

“His name’s Yami? You don’t call him ‘master’ or something like that?” Jou shook his head.

“Nah, I don’t have to. I’ve been here long enough to becomes friends with Yami. You, however, should stick to calling him whatever he wants you to call him. Just to be on the safe side. Now you’re friends,” Jou rubbed the back of his worriedly. “I’m not so sure about them.” Yugi’s fear came back.

“Why?! Are they alright?!”

“Well....they are with Bakura and Marik. And they are both FAR from Yami’s personality.” Jou shook his head. “But, they aren’t that bad either. They’re just a little strange. They’re nice men deep down, but they don’t like to show it.”

“Is Seto mean to you, Jou?” Jou flushed a bit and chuckled.

“He used to be, but he stopped once he realized he loved me!” Yugi smiled.

“Oh, that’s nice. Will Yami like me?” Jou thought for a second.

“Hm, it’s hard to tell. Yami is usually a pretty closed up guy. But, if you just do as he says, you’ll grow on him.” Yugi nodded and reached over to take on of Jou’s hands in his.

“Jou, can you do something for me?”

“Sure, what?”

“Could you go check on my friends Ryou and Malik? Just so I know they’re alright?”

“I can’t promise anything, but I’ll try. Walking into Bakura or Marik’s tent without being invited is sudden death. I think I might be able to sneak in during dinner.” Yugi reached over and hugged him.

“Thank you so much Jou! I hope we can be friends!” Jou chuckled and ruffled Yugi’s hair.

“I’d like that Yugi. I’ll have to introduce you to Tristan sometime.” Another voice suddenly entered the room.

“Time to go, Jou.” They both looked over to see Seto. “My tent needs cleaning.” Jou pouted.

“I just cleaned it yesterday!” Seto crossed his arms.

“Don’t argue with me, pup.” Seto smirked. “You master commands it.” Yugi sat back as Jou stood up.

“Don’t call me that in front of others!!” Seto whistled and patted his thigh.

“Here puppy, come on.” Yugi covered his mouth, trying to hide his laughing. He didn’t want Jou to get mad at him.

“I’ll see you later, Yug.” Yugi nodded and watched as the two exited the tent. Both of them were nice people. Now he only had Yami to worry about. If what Jou said was right, then he shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Maybe Yami might even let him and his friends go! It was worth a try.

As if on cue, Yami roughly pushed the tent flap aside and stomped over to the table. He sat down and picked up a pen, mumbling as he started writing. Yugi remained where he was, just staring at Yami. It seemed that Yami didn’t even noticed he was there! Well, he was small in size, and not surprised if Yami had missed him. Yugi took some time to study his look alike. Yami was taller than he was with more of an evil look. His eyes were a crimson red rather then a light purple like his. The hair was same, multicolored with black, orchid, and yellow. It was strange how the other Vikings looked like his friends.

“You, slave!” Yugi broke from his train of thought and faced Yami, trembling a bit. “Come over here.” Yugi hurried over to Yami’s side and waited with his hands behind his back. “Take this letter over to Seto and have him send a messenger out with it. Can you handle that?” Yugi nodded.

“Yes sir.” Yami handed him the note and smiled slightly.

“You’re obedient, I like that. Keep that up and I won’t have to kill you.” Yugi gulped and nodded.

“Yes sir.”

“And don’t try to escape. We have Viking’s everywhere, and you’ll be caught long before you make it pase see second
row of tents.”

Yugi bowed and hurried out of the tent. He stopped and looked around, trying to remember where Seto’s tent was. Left or right? Sighing, he chose left, hoping he would somehow recognize Seto’s tent. He let out a short scream when he felt someone yank his hair from behind.

“Where are you going?!” Yugi couldn’t understand what the man was saying.

“I-I-I’m sorry! I don’t understand you!” He felt his hair being released from the man’s grip.

“Where are you going?!” The man spoke it in English this time. Yugi quickly answered him.

“I-I need to go-go bring this note to Seto! I-I don’t know where his tent is!” The man pointed past him.

“It’s that one with the red shield hanging on the flap.” Yugi bowed.

“Thank you.”

He hurried over to the tent, stopping in front of the flap. He was about to call for Seto, when he heard strange noises coming from inside. It sounded like moaning and scing!ing! Was Seto hurt?! Or was Jou hurt?! Holding his breath, he threw the flap open, and just stared. Seto and Jou were coupling with each other on a table. Yugi shook his head and closed the flap, blushing down to his roots. He had NEVER seen that before! Catching his breath, he ran back to Yami’s tent. When he got there, Yami frowned as he noticed the note still in his hand.

“What’s wrong?”

“I-I sorry. But-but Seto and Jou are...are very busy right now...and...um...” Yami rolled his eyes.

“They’re at it again! What in the name of Odin [1] is going on here!” Yami threw his feather pen down on the table. “I told him before to wait to do that later at night! I need him during the day, damn it!” Yami pushed his chair back and walked over to Yugi, grabbing his wrist. “Come on!” He pulled Yugi out of the tent and all the way down to Seto’s. Yami listened as he heard the commotion going on inside. He smirked at Yugi. “Watch this.” Yami threw the tent flap open and shouted, “SETO!”

Seto shot up from his place and Jou’s chest and suddenly came deep into Jou. Seto growled and pulled out of Jou, making him groan in protest. Both glared at Yami.

“DAMN YOU YAMI!! YOU KNOW I HATE THAT!!” Yami chuckled evilly and turned to Yugi.

“Scared the seed right out of him!” Yugi raised an eyebrow and Yami sighed. “Nevermind.” Seto stomped up to Yami, his face red with anger.

“What do you want that is SO important, Yami!?” Yami grabbed the note from Yugi and shoved it in Seto’s face.

“Have a messenger ship this back home. You know what it is.” Seto growled and snatched the paper from Yami’s hand.

“Fine, I’ll do it! Now get out of my tent!” Seto shoved Yami out the doorway and slid the flap shut. Yami just chuckled, finding himself hilarious. Yugi just stared at him with a raised eyebrow.

“YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMIIIIIIIII!!” Yugi saw Yami cringe as he followed the direction where Yami was looking. He gasped and hid behind Yami, it was those other two Vikings!

“Thor, [2] strike me down now...” Yami brothers hurried up to him, almost out of breath. “What do you two want now?”

“Yami, we just got word from the scout that an English carriage is passing through the wood nearby!” Bakura said excitedly. “It’s surrounded by English soldiers, s HAS HAS to be something valuable!”

“How far?” Yami asked.

“Northeast, by the stream!” Marik answered, pointing in the said direction. Yugi just listened to the words being passed, understanding nothing. He wished these Vikings would speak some English!

“Alright, listen to me carefully.” Yami started. “Rally up all the men and-“ Yami stopped as he watched Marik shove a roasted frog into his mouth, watching the legs disappear as he chewed. Yugi stuck his tongue out. “That’s disgusting!” Marik swallowed.

“Taste like chicken to me.” Bakura rolled his eyes.

“Anyway, rally up all the men and lead them to this passing carriage. I’ll take my half of the troops and we’ll flank them from the other side. Make sure you get EVERYTHING they have of importance. Now go!”

“RIGHT!” The started to run, but Yami’s voicoppeopped them.

“AND DON’T KILL OR MUTILATE EVERYONE THIS TIME!” Bakura and Marik looked at each other, then ran off laughing manically. Yami sweatdropped. “Why must the gods curse me with such brothers!?” Yugi took a few steps back away from Yami, finding him more insane than mean. “Slave, go back to my tent and stay there. Don’t try to escape, for I will be leaving some men here.”

“Y-Yes sir!”

Bakura and Marik hurried down the rows of tents, shouting for the men to take up arms. They halted at Seto’s tent, listening outside.

“Harder!...please Seto!! More!”

“Oh pup...I’m gonna...!” Marik and Bakura smirked at each other, and threw the tent flap open.

“SETO!!”

“AARRUGGH!!!” Seto screamed as he came into Jou again. “GODS BE DAMNED!!”

“Meet us at the end of the camp! We have an ambush to form! Move it!” Seto sighed and go off Jou, pulling his pants back up.

“Get ready pup. I’ll come by with the horse.”

“Alright.”

Yugi hurried down the row of tents, dodging all the men that were running around frantically. He was almost trampled a few times, he hated being small. He saw Jou come out of Seto’s tent holding a bow and helmet. He had a sword strapped onto his belt and a quiver of arrows on his back. Yugi ran faster so he could catch him.

“JOU!” Jou turned to see Yugi running towards him. “Why are you dressed up like that?” Yugi said out of breath. Jou smiled.

“I’m off to help in the raid.” Yugi’s eyes widened.

“Raid? But Jou, why are you fighting your own people?!” Jou ruffled his hair, making Yugi pout. He hated when people did that, it made him feel like he was three again.

“Well, I rather fight by Seto’s side then on the side of my country men.”

“Why?”

“Because I love him, Yug. If he dies, Freyja [3] forbid, I want to be there with him. Maybe you’ll understand one day.”

“PUPPY!” Yugi looked behind to see Seto coming towards them on a horse. “Let’s go.”

“I’ll see you later, Yug.” Jou jumped onto the saddle, sitting in front of Seto. He placed the helmet on Seto’s head and gave him a quick peck on the lips. Seto smiled and set the horse into a gallop. Yugi watched as his two new friends joined the other Vikings in leaving the camp. He hoped they would be alright. Even though these Vikings were ruthless barbarians, they were still people. And Yugi knew he had to except the fact that other countries and religions had their own ways of doing things. So he really couldn’t blame anybody. Seeing as the camp was thinning out, he hurried back to Yami’s tent, waiting for his return.

****Battle scene (it’s not to bad)****

Jou crouched on a large pine branch, keeping watch for the passing carriage. The Vikings were all blending in with the surrounding trees and bushes. Bakura sat on his horse, tapping his fingers impatiently on it’s neck. Marik was squirming on his saddle, whimpering in anticipation.

“I wanna fight! I wanna fight!! Where are they?!” Bakura looked up to Jou, giving him a questioning look. Jou shook his head and continued searching from his perch. Seto stood underneath the branch, ready to catch his pup if he fell. Jou quickly stood up from his perch and signaled the troops below, seeing the carriage coming their way. Marik grinned stupidly and readied his axe.

“Wait for my call.” Bakura whispered to him, making Marik pout.

“But I wanna-“

”No!” Bakura glared at him. “Wait for my signal!” Marik glared and pulled his brother’s hair.

“Why should I listen to you!? You’re the youngest!” Bakura wacked his hand away and growled.

“Because I got the brains in the family!”

“Brains are nothing compared to brawn! And you LACK in that area!” Bakura glared at him, mouth agape.

“The hell I don’t!! I have both brawn AND brains! You’re just an idiot with muscles!” Marik glared back at him.

“What’s wrong with my muscles?!”

“SHUT UP YOU TWO!” Shouted Seto, pushing his horse in between theirs. “Don’t start this now! Argue AFTER the ambush! Here comes the carriage!” Their argument was completely forgotten as they readied themselves to attack the carriage. As soon as the carriage was in range, Bakura let out his battle cry, signaling the others to attack.

The English heard the battle cry and readied their weapons. The Vikings charged out of the trees from all sides, immediately attacking the soldiers. Jou remained in his perch on the branch, aiming his arrows at English soldiers. Seto had to leave his side and engage in the battle.

Bakura jumped off his horse and met with a sword clash from a soldier. He quickly sliced through the man’s chest, and twirled around to hack off the arm of another soldier. Bakura enjoyed hearing the screams and watching the blood spray out from the wounds of his victims. He wouldn’t quit his day job for anything under the sun! He swung at another soldier, slicing him clean through his abdomen. He happened to catch Marik riding through the chaos, hacking off the heads of any soldier he came across. Bakura would have to tell Yami what Marik was doing! He LOVED getting his brother in trouble.

Seto and a few others hacked their way through the soldiers guarding the carriage with ease. The English soldiers were nothing compared to his people! He threw the back door open and leapt inside, looking around. He found three large chests, seven barrels of ale, and a ration of grain. He ushered the others in and ordered them to take all that was in the carriage. He leapt back out and looked up towards the tree where Jou was. He saw his pup still there, safe and sound, going through his arrows like water. He couldn’t help but smile as he ran in to rejoin the battle.

Marik laughed manically as he grabbed the head of one of the soldiers he killed. He rode through the mass of men, swinging his axe wherever he saw armor. One of the soldiers hacked through his horse’s front legs, making it rear and throw Marik to the ground. He landed hard on his back, almost getting the wind knocked out of him. He watched as a sword point came down to his face, but he grabbed the tip with his hand, stopping it. Marik ignored the cold steel biting through his hand as the soldier pushed down harder. With his strength, Marik managed to push the blade away from his face, having it piece the dirt beside his ear. He then gripped his axe and swung it swiftly, removing the man’s legs from his body. He jumped back up and placed his foot on the man’s chest. The man gripped his ankle with weakened strength, only making Marik press down harder. Marik grinned and raised his axe. He brought the axe down, chopping off the soldier’s head. He bent down picked it up by it’s hair, grinning like a madman. Gods he loved this!

Two more men charged at him, swords raised. Marik grabbed the sword from his belt and blocked the blows from each soldier. He hacked through them easily, then felt something bump into him from behind. He spun around with his axe raised, only to met Bakura with HIS sword raised. They grinned at each other and pressed back to back, fighting the oncoming soldiers.

The Viking warriors fought until every soldier littered the ground. They regrouped in the center, making sure they gathered all the goods from the carriage. A few minuted later, Yami appeared with his group of warriors. However, he was frowning.

“BAKURA! MARIK!!” Yami watched as his brothers pushed their way through the others. “Do you not listen to a word I say!?” They exchanged glances with each other. “I said I didn’t wanted everyone dead and mutilated! And what do you do?! DISOBEY ME!! Am I talking to walls?!”

“But we didn’t mutilate anyone this time!” Marik said to Yami, but he didn’t buy it. He raised an eyebrow at his brother
and looked strait at the head Marik was holding. Marik looked down and noticed it, quickly shoving it behind his back. “I was framed!” Yami rolled his eyes. Bakura spoke up next.

“Where were you when we were fighting anyway, huh?!”

“There was no need for us because your group was doing well on its own. There was nothing for us to fight.” Bakura crossed his arms, looking away from his brother. “Come on, lets get back to camp and sort through the plunder.”
