Chapter 3: Broken Vow

"Darkness and Light are brothers...one cannot exist
without the other..."

*****

The soft wind blew against the cemetery, breathing in and
out in such a gentle way that it brings life all around. But nothing is ever as
it seems, and within that peaceful landscape...lies a
confusion and a long-hidden pain that eats away the sanity of a human being...

Like a shadow in the night...

Bakura closed his eyes and
began to picture everything Isis was telling him. For
some weird reason, he couldn't seem to imagine it as it should be. Rather than
complete, it was a shattered frame...making him bleed to death...

"So it was true..." his voice was venom, his
eyes dancing wild like fire. "Osiris
was only playing with my brother's heart! I should have killed him the one time
I had the chance..."

Isis shook her head, a frown upon
her face. "I told you to listen. Do not let your emotions overtake you
now. There was more than a first meeting between Ryou
and Malik...more than a mixed feeling of hatred and
lust..."

***(ISIS'
POV again)***

Ever since that fateful night, Malik
and I were never on good terms again. We hardly spoke to each other...and I was
hardly a sister to him. Every single night, he continued to kill as he used to,
nothing could stop the hot pot that was him. I began to lose faith that I could
actually do anything to save him...he was digging his own grave.

He also added a new habit in his nightly activities.
After killing, he would enter the Blue Eyes Bar and watch Ryou
sing. He always sat at the table in the rear, the same table we sat in the
first time. He seduced Ryou like a dagger
sheathed in gold.

I wanted to protect Ryou...and
the only way to do that was to stay close to him at all times. I decided to
apply for a job in Blue Eyes.

“You?” Kaiba
muttered, disinterested. It was the day after my brother and Ryou first met…and I decided to take action as fast as I
could. “You’re not really fit for the whore-type thing.”

I sighed. “Sure, be blunt about it. Anyway, I do not want to be a whore…”

I glanced around Kaiba’s
office. It was the largest office I’d ever seen in my life…and no doubt the
most expensive. It was almost an apartment, with matching beds, bathroom, and
living room. The displays were of priceless values. The walls were lined with
gold…and one tapestry that hung over his large oak desk was an intricate
portrait of his brother, Mokuba.

Everything he owned was like a fantasy come true. It
would take a fool to not be jealous of the Kaiba
brothers.

Seto caught me staring at Mokuba’s portrait, and rather annoyed, waved a hand in
front of my face to get my attention. “So what are you applying for? You’re wasting my time.”

“I have no intentions of becoming a prostitute…but…” I
leaned against his huge desk and glared at him. “Maybe you’re short of
waitresses or something…”

He looked at me, a smirk on his face. “Why should I give you a job?”

”Because I’m your friend?”
I replied, unsure.

“Anything else?”

“Oh, fuck it.” I snapped in frustration, realizing the
only way for Kaiba to help me was if he knew the
truth. “I need to stay close to Ryou, that enough
reason? I want to stay close to Ryou.”

He raised an eyebrow. “You know, if you want him that
badly, you’d have to bid for him to.”

“That’s not the point! I don’t want Ryou---like
that--- it’s something else.”

Kaiba stood up cautiously,
glaring at me. “Last night---someone saw you run after Ryou
and his—abductor—did you have anything to do with it, Isis?”

I went pale at what Kaiba said.
So someone did see me with Malik. Maybe… “Look, the
guy who ‘took’ Ryou isn’t all that bad…I mean, he
meant no harm. Ryou was fine, wasn’t he? Besides, by
the looks of it, you had productive fun
with him last night.”

Kaiba spat angrily, scowling.
“It would have been fun if he hadn’t been screaming ‘Malik’
while I was fucking him.”

“Oh Ra…” I swallowed nervously. “Malik?”

“Yes…No…”Kaiba placed his hand
on his chin thoughtfully. “’Malik’s’ a weird word…I
think maybe it was ‘Matchbox’…”

I breathed. “You can’t remember?”

He seemed offended. “You
wouldn’t have been able to concentrate on stupid word you you had an angel lying on your bed with his legs spread wide.”

I finally smiled, glad that he’d forgotten my brother’s
name…well, sort of. “Whatever, it’s your business. But about the job…”

I never finished my sentence, because the bathroom door in Kaiba’s
office opened.

“Seto?”
Ryou came in, wearing nothing but a towel around his
waist. “What’s taking you so long?”

”Business.” Kaiba muttered,
gesturing to my direction.

Then Ryou saw me, and his eyes
widened. I smiled at him.

“Oh.” He said softly, as if remembering our encounter
last night. “It’s you.”

Kaiba walked over to him and
kissed him. “Do you know her?”

Ryou shrugged. “No…I only met her last night…I don’t
even know her name.”

“Isis.” Kaiba
turned to me, smirking. “Ryou needs a new hairdresser
and make-up artist…”

“I do?” Ryou asked in surprise.
“But I never—-“

Kaiba looked at him. “Don’t
argue.”

”O—kay.” Ryou replied. “So
she’s my new…umm…?”

Kaiba nodded, making his way
toward the door.

“Where are you going?” Ryou and
I asked at the same time.

Kaiba blinked, opening the door
and going out. “Get acquainted. I’ll be back.”

He left, and then there was just Ryou
and me, looking at each other. I didn’t know what to say…whether to tell him Malik’s real intention…or to keep him hidden in the dark.

“Umm…” he began, flushing lightly, his eyes on the floor.
“How is Malik?”

I felt something tug at my heart. “Oh…he’s fine.”

”Really?” he looked up, genuinely happy. “Is he coming back to---watch me sing
again? And maybe…bid for me?”

“No.” I said, then I saw Ryou’s eyes droop sadly. “I’m sorry…”

I didn’t know how to tell Ryou
that my brother was no good. He didn’t even know that Malik
was ‘Osiris’…and yet, he was already madly in love
with him. If I told him anything…he wouldn’t have believed me. He could have
even hated me…

“Malik’s not ever coming back.”
I said with more determination, my eyes on Ryou’s sad
face. “I won’t let him.”

Of course, I was wrong. Malik
did come back that night…and many more nights after that. I kept my eyes on him
and I knew he wouldn’t try anything funny while I was watching him. I could
expose his true identity anytime...Malik knew better
than to cross my path.

And yet…I wondered why he kept on returning to the bar.
He kept his eyes on Ryou…watching him like a lion
stalking its prey. That’s when I realized how wrong I’ve been. My brother
didn’t keep the distance because of what I could expose about him. He feared
nothing. He didn’t fear me…for all I knew, he could have loathed me. He was
merely trying to prove something…he didn’t need to run after his preys…they
came to him.

He was luring Ryou into his
sick game in front of my face. And I couldn’t even see it.

My suspicions became reality a week after his constants
visits in the bar.

Malik always left the bar at
the last line of Ryou’s songs. He made sure he left
alone…so that Ryou could see only him. That Friday
night, Malik got what he wanted. Ryou
dropped the mic and exited the stage through the back
door to run after him. I followed closely…nervously. I may have lost to my
brother this time…but I could still preserve Ryou’s
life.

I followed the beautiful boy stealthily as he ran across
the streets and into an empty alley. I remembered that place to be where Malik had killed the brown-haired girl before. I remembered
because she had a distinct look on her face, and she was screaming “Yami” while my brother stabbed her to death. I didn’t
know why she was calling ‘darkness’… whatever or whoever it
was…for some reason, it sounded familiar.

Ryou stopped at the entrance to
the alley, panting heavily. Finally, he stopped and looked around. “Malik?”

There was a soft and familiar laugh echoing in the
shadows, and I saw my brother appear. He had discarded his dark cloak and hood,
and was now standing in front of Ryou in a sleeveless
purple blouse and tight black pants.

Like a normal teenager. What a hypocrite.

I felt anger rise to my chest as I saw him walk toward Ryou, and captured the boy’s lips on his own, nearly
literally devouring him. I felt sick right down to my stomach. What else was he
trying to prove!?!

That boy was poison.

I closed my eyes and waited for them to stop. The cold
wall felt comfortable against my back, and I fell into a very light trance. I
couldn’t remember how long they were nipping at each other’s throats, but when
I finally snapped out of it and looked back, Ryou was
lying naked on the cold wet floor with bleeding slash marks across his chest,
stomach, and near his groin.

Malik was on top of him, his
mouth bathed with Ryou’s blood, his hand holding the
gold dagger as he made another wound on Ryou’s skin. Ryou bit his lip to prevent himself from screaming, but he
failed to prevent a whimper from escaping his lips.

“Ryou!”
I cried, unable to stop myself anymore as I ran from where I was hiding to push
my brother off Ryou’s frail body. “Are you alright?”

Ryou looked up at me with his wide eyes, conf.
T.
Then he pulled away from my grasp and ran into Malik’s
waiting arms.

“Wha---?”
I mumbled, Malik smirking triumphantly at me. I
watched as he pulled Ryou into his embrace and
slashed the boy’s right wrist, sucking the blood and making Ryou
tremble violently.

“Stop it!” I screamed, not daring to near the pair. I
couldn’t understand what was going on. All I know was that it wasn’t good. “Malik! Stop it, you’re killing
him!”

“Quiet.” Malik said, and I
shook with horror at the redness of his lips. Ryou’s
head fell limply against his shoulder, unconsciousness slowly taking over.
“Can’t you see? I’m cleaning his blood. I’m getting rid of the poison.”

“Malik.”
I covered my face with my hands, knowing fully well that my own little brother
was mocking and spiting me. I couldn’t stand the sight of him…so ruthless…more
cruel than he deserved to be. “Stop it.”

I raised my head just in time to catch Ryou’s lithe body
as Malik flung him harshly to me. “Malik!”

He licked the blood off his lips and began laughing insanely. “Do you know what
you look like, sister?”

”What are you talking about?” I shouted angrily, hugging Ryou’s
fragile body close to me. “How could you literally throw him away just like
that? How could you play with him like he was some sort of rag doll!?!”

“Shut up!” Malik snapped, no
longer laughing. His eyes held a seriousness I couldn’t comprehend…a darkness I
could not sense. “It’s mine to do as I please with those that belong to me!
Mine to lond mnd mine to hurt and hate! That idiot has given himself up to
me…he’ne ane and I can discard him like the pathetic and useless mortal that he
is anytime I want.”

”God, little brother, listen to yourself.” I cried in
disbelief. “Do you have any idea at all of what you’re saying? You sound like a
man depraved of sanity!”

”Then so be it.” He turned away from me as he picked up his discarded cloak
from the floor. “Let me stay insane with all the lies I believe to be the truth…then
maybe, my only weakness could become my final strength.”

&n

He began to walk away, but stopped to kneel in front of Ryou, shivering in my arms.

I watched as he leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss
on Ryou’s lips, his eyes traveling across the boy’s
features. Then, he very gently covered Ryou’s naked
body with his dark cloak.

“Why do you keep on doing this?” I asked him softly,
feeling a burst of emotion within me. “What is this boy truly to you?”

He looked straight into my eyes, and for a brief moment, I thought I saw a lost
child within the depths of his cruel soul. ”He is the poison that slowly
kills me.”

Malik stood up and walked aw his his clothes and hair still drenched in Ryou’s blood.
Without his cloak on, anybody could see who ‘Osiris’
really was…a boy of 16. A boy who should have been studying in school…not going
around at night to murder people and have sex with whores---which brought me to
the question…

“Malik, wait.”allealled to him.
He stopped but didn’t bother to turn around. I hesitated for a moment, and then
I realized I had nothing to lose by asking. “Did you fuck Ryou?”

I heard him laugh mirthlessly as he let his slender fingers run through his
sand-colored hair. “If you had an angel lying on your bed---or on the
floor---with his legs spread wide, what would you have done?”

I gaped at him as he left, trying to remember where I’d
heard that line before. Then I shook my head and laughed to myself. I knew it
was idiotic to do so…but I realized something…as my eyes strayed to the cold
floor where I spotted a rather large amount of spilled cum. My brother may have
been a murderer…but he was still a 16-year old with raging hormones.

I brought Ryou to Kaiba’s office where he recuperated. Kaiba
was on some business trip, but he’d left me a key in case of emergencies. I
don’t know why he did, but somehow, I had suspicions that he knew of my
rionsionship with Malik.

Ryou awoke at 3:30 in the morning, feeling weak and drained.
I smiled at him as he opened his eyes.

“Isis.” He whispered groggily, his hands on the bandages
I’d wrapped around his wounds. “Isis…where’s Malik--?”

He tried to get up, but I pushed him back down to bed. “Forget Malik, Ryou. Forget him.”

”But why?” he asked, confused. “I---“

”He hurt you, Ryou!” I nearly screamed. “He nearly
slashed you to death and you were just lucky he didn’t hit the vital part of
you wrist or you would have bled to death!”

”I need him---he promised to bid for me---“ he tried
to get up again. “Please, Isis.”

”No.” I said, continuing to press him down. “Stop it. You don’t know him. If
you continue to pine for him, you’ll only be harmed all the more. Please, let
it go.”

He slowly sunk against the bed, his brows furrowed. “I know he wants to kill
me---I’m not stupid---but maybe that’s what I want.”

Sometimes, death is better than nothing.

I sighed, pulling Ryou’s chin
up to face me. “But if the one you love is the one to kill you…is that what you
truly want?”

Ryou looked into my eyes, and I into his. I saw such
innocence in them I’d never seen before.

He smiled and leaned in my touch. “You remind me of my
mother.”

”Your mother?” I asked.

He nodded hesitantly. “My brother killed her.”

”I’m sorry.”

He wiped a single tear off his cheek with the back of his hand. “You know why?”

I shook my head, genuinely curious. “Do you---want to
tell me?”

Ryou continued smiling as he
played with the edges of his pillow. He was distracting himself…to avoid the
physical and emotional pain that was eating him alive. He’d never told his secrets
to anybody before. I was glad he chose to trust me. “My mother caught me and my
brother committing incest.”

*****

Isis sat silently on the grass, her eyes boring into Bakura’s nervous gestures. “That brother…was you, wasn’t
it?”

Bakura frowned, feeling the earth open up beneath
him. He loved Ryou and has never been ashamed of
their affair before. But now…it was as though nature itself was condemning
him…drowning him in a web of despair and torture. He hurt Ryou…but
only because he loved him. “I was Ryou’s only
brother.”

Isis nodded, feeling her piece of the puzzle was over
for now. She touched Bakura’s arm. “It’s your turn to
tell your tale.”

Bakura shrugged her arm away,
his eyes on his brother’s grave stone. “Ryou was
always the obedient one. I had to force him the first few times…but soon he was
longing for pleasure on his own. I taught him to love pain. I taught him the
pleasure of having another person’s body inside his own…I
taught him to pleasure himself. He was the perfect sex machine. And he was the
perfect demented liar. I never killed our mother. He did.”

(Everything from this point forward unless otherwise
specified is in Yami Bakura’s
POV)

a/n: Finished chappie 3! Review and tell me how it was. Did anybody get
who the brown-haired girl Malik killed before was?
It’s Tea/Anzu. She was screaming ‘Yami’s
name while Malik stabbed her to death. Oh, and we now
all know that Bakura taught Ryou
his ‘skills’ Ryo Ryou killed his mother? Everything
will be in Bakura’s POV from next chapter.
