Prologue 3

“Hey, Teajuana! Are you going to go to breakfast?” Bobby asked, watching her brush her hair.

“I’ll be there in a minute. I just want to finish brushing my hair,” she replied. It had been a few weeks, and Bobby had started growing on her. Never in her life did Teajuana think that someone would. Every night, Bobby would show her the different constellations in the sky and often asked what she thought. She would reply that they didn’t seem as their descriptions were, but she was interested in them. She wondered what constellations they would see tonight.

There was a knock on the door, and Teajuana went to go get it. On the other side, she found Pete, one of her gym classmates. “What do you want?” she asked, crossing her arms.

“I just wanted to ask you something. May I come in?” he asked, flashing a perfect smile at her. A glare was the only response he got, but Pete continued on. “I was wondering if you would go out on a date with me.”

“What gave you the idea I would even date someone like you?” she asked, frowning. “I think you should leave.”

“You should know me better than that. I always get what I want, Teajuana.” Pete stopped the closing door and advanced toward her. Teajuana backed up slightly, thoughts of the care takers at the orphanages advancing on the children. Anger filled her as the other teen advanced, reaching out to run his fingers through her hair.

“Don’t touch me!” she yelled, smacking his hand away.

“I won’t hurt you. Besides, I know you want me,” he replied, grasping her right arm tightly.

She tugged on her arm as he gripped her even tighter. Teajuana’s blue eyes closed
tightly, willing Pete away from her. Pete sneered and went to remove her shirtn hen her
eyes snapped opened and glared at his, causing the teen to freeze in his tracks.

“What the hell?” was all he could utter before her fist connected with his jaw. He
backed up, releasing her and stumbling back on the ground. Holding his jaw, Pete saw
Teajuana walk up to him and kick his side like a rubber ball, causing him actually to
bounce a foot away from her. He felt his ribs crack, one breaking completely, and gasped.
Where had she gotten this kind of strength?! Pete laid there for a moment, hearing glass
brng, ng, and winced in pain as Teajuana sat on his chest.

“You wanted something more than a date, didn’t you? I could feel it when you grabbed my arm. Fine. You’ll get something more than a date.” She pulled his pants off, noticing he wasn’t wearing underwear which disgusted her, and put the mirror she had broken to his manhood. In one movement, she used the edge of the mirror and sliced the member off, hearing the scream of pain Pete gave. “That’s what you get for thinking that just cause I’m a girl, I’m easy.” She stood and watched the other writhe in agony. Teajuana’s eyes seemed blank for a moment as she looked at the mirror piece in her hand, and then her eyes widened in fear and horror, dropping the mirror to the floor and running out of her room.

John saw Teajuana run out of her room and followed her, wondering what happened. She had looked scared, an emotion John knew wasn’t part of the emotions she let out. In fact, Teajuana was scared, scared at how easy it was to hurt someone else.

::Did nothing my life do teach me not to be like that?:: she thought. ::But, it was in self-defense, right?:: She stopped and turned around suddenly to see, not John but, Bobby touching her shoulder.

“Teajuana, what’s wrong?” he asked.

“Bobby. . .I. . .” Teajuana hadn’t ate much the last few days, nor slept for that matter, and slumped to the ground in exhaustion. John caught up, and both malerrierried her to the small hospital wing.

Bobby woke up upon hearing the sounds of confusion from Teajuana’s sleeping form. He went over and shook her lightly. “Hey, there. How you feeling?”

She looked up at him. “Where am I?”

“In the hospital wing. You blacked out in the hallway.”

“Oh.”

“What happened? John found Pete ionsions wounded in our room.”

“Pete. He tried. . .he. . .wanted to take away my dignity,” she said finally, “I ended up taking his on accident.”

“On accident?” Bobby sounded as if he didn’t believe her.

“It was like I didn’t know what I was doing. Bobby. . .he wanted to hurt me. He wanted to have sex with me without my consent.”

“He wanted to rape you.”

Teajuana nodded, still trying to understand what happened and why. Bobby wrote down what she said so he could give it to John. He then turned and asked, “Is it alright for me to ask about your wrists?”

Teajuana looked down and widened her eyes, noticing she was in a hospital gown. “They. . .they are a part of my life, Bobby. It’s how I cope with things.”

“But hurting yourself?”

“Better than being hurt by another.”

“Are you sure that-”

“Yes.”

Bobby frowned slightly, but said, “If you ever need to talk about something, then please, talk to me.”

“. . .I will. I’ll trust you, Bobby.” Teajuana ended up telling Bobby mostly everything, leaving out some details since she didn’t want to remember them. Bobby’s eyes were widen with horror and fear.

“I. . .I never knew. I’m-”

“Don’t say you’re sorry. What could you have done? Bobby, you would have been in the same mess as me,” she interrupted.

“That may be true, but. . .”

“No buts. You must promise me that you will never tell anyone else, especially John.”

“But, maybe he can-”

“Not John. I will never adults, Bobby. Once we are fully grown, that’s it. I don’t know if I’ll be able to trust you. Adults did that to me, Bobby. I don’t want them to be able to use that information against me. You do, and you’ll regret it.”

“Teajuana. . .you can trust me to keep it secret.”

The girl nodded and laid against the bed, trying to clear her mind. “So what happened to Pete?”

“He was put under observation. The doctors found it odd that the cut was clean, especially since it was done with a broken mirror. You do know that’s seven years bad luck, right?” he asked with a slight smile.

“I don’t believe in superstitions.”

Bobby shrugged and continued, “Well, Pete’s getting patched up, but I don’t think he’s going to be able to walk for quite some time. That and he’s going to have to find a new way to. . .you know.”

“Yeah. Strangely enough, I don’t feel sorry for what I did.”

“You don’t?”

“No. I was merely defending myself. I don’t see what I would have done wrong.”

“I know. Do you want to rest some more? You’ve been up for the last couple of days.”

Teajuana shook her head and moved to get up. “I’m fine. Really. How long was I knocked out anyway?”

“Well, a few hours. It was breakfast, and now it’s lunch. Are you hungry?”

“I am, actually. Pete made me miss breakfast. ’s g’s go.” Teajuana got dressed, and both went to the mess hall, Teajuana receiving stares from the rest of the room.

About a half a year later, another incident happened; another boy found writhing in agony because his manhood was cut clean off. These young men weren’t learning or paying attention, and so a few months later the same thing happened again. . .and again. Finally, Teajuana earned the nickname “Cadet from Hell.” Now, the boys knew not to mess with her, especially when during this time, Teajuana was learning to fight with daggers. She always carried a couple of daggers on her just in case she needed them.

It was going on her fourth year at the academy, she had gotten a lot of respect from the council and most teachers, and she and Bobby were busy training in the gym. Bobby looked about ready to give up since he was panting for air, and Teajuana claimed she hadn’t begun to train.

“Look, Teajuana, I’m tired! And hungry. I’m heading to lunch. You coming?” he asked, panting and standing up.

“Naw, I think I’ll train for a while more. Besides, I’m not hungry,” she answered.

“Ok, see ya in an hour or so.”

Teajuana continued training and exercising, not noticing the teacher who just came into the gym. The man was tall and slender but wasn’t very popular with most of the students. He came up behind Teajuana and pushed her down.

Teajuana got up quickly and glared at someone who dared to interrupr trr training. “What the fuck do you want, Conryou?” she asked through seething teeth.

“Why are you so sore? You should be on your guard always,” he replied, putting his hands up to ward off any attack she might make.

“Why don’t you just leave?”

“Well, I was just passing by,” he said as he circled the young woman, “And thought maybe I could give you a few. . .pointers.”

“I don’t want pointers.”

“I think you do, young lady.” Conryou knocked her down and bent to remove her clothing. “You need to be taught your place and how to pleasure any man. That is all you are good for.”

Teajuana struggled against the other, feeling his erect manhood against her thigh. She wanted to cry out for help, but her pride and previous knowledge lead her to keep silent. Instead, the fiery red head tensed her hands and fingers and proceeded to scratch at the teacher’s face. Conryou backed up but refused to let Teajuana up. Instead, he pinned hrms rms behind her and went to remove her pants and his erection. Teajuana glared up at him while freeing a hand and grabbing a dagger near her waist quickly and quietly so Conryou couldn’t tell what was up. Just as he was to descend upon her, the dagger point met the tip of his erection, causing Conryou to stop.

“Teajuana. . .please. You wouldn’t,” he begged.

“You made a mistake, baka. Just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean that I’m easy, and it doesn’t mean that I’m not strr thr than you. You’re just a fuckin’ bastard!”

Before either of them knew it, Teajuana’s dagger went into the erection and split it in two. Conryou doubled over and screamed. Teajuana backed up and rebuttoned her pants while watching the other writhe in agony. However, it wasn’t too long until Conryou stopped, unmoving and unbreathing. The young woman looked at the blood pouring from the wound and widened her eyes.

::Is he. . .?:: She ran from the sight and out of the building. Teajuana went and hid in a small crevice oe sie side of the school and let loose her tears. She hadn’t even noticed Bobby was standing right next to her.

“Tea? What happened?” he asked, concern in his voice.

“He. . .he tried to rape me, Bobby,” she said through tears, hugging her knees to her tightly.

“Oh, Tea. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have left you. If I hadn’t, he probably wouldn’t have tried.”

“What’s worse is that I killed him. I hadn’t meant to; I really didn’t! B, I’, I’ll get expelled. I know it!”

“Teajuana, calm down. I don’t think you’ll get expelled,” he said, trying to soothe her. “If you want, I’ll tell my dad. He’ll help out. He won’t let you get expelled.”

“Strange as it may sound, I actually feel like I belong here. If I got kicked out, thedon’don’t know where I’d go.”

“You know, why don’t we go back to our room? I have something I want to show y Bo Bobby led her back to their room and sat down on his bed, pulling out a book. “I thought you might be interested in this.”

“What is it?”

“It’s a book oypt.ypt. It. . .uh. . .has lots of pictures,” he said, trying not to sound as if he were judging her.

“Egypt? Well, let’s take a look.” She sat down next to him and studied the pictures as Bobby told her where they were taken. She watched intently, the pictures of the ancient language actually making sense to her. “What did they say ttabltablet say?” she asked.

“Uh. . .something about how they mummified the pharaohs,” he answered “Th “That’s not what it says.”

“Huh?”

She pointed to the tablet. “That’s not what the tablet says. It’s been mistranslated.”

“Wait, you can translate that?”

“Yes.”

“Well, what does it say?”

“ ‘The death of this pharaoh was in vain as his entire empire was destoryed in the last days of his reign.’”

“Really? I wonder if anyone else would agree with you.”

John knocked on the door, “May I come in?”

“Sure, Dad.”

Teajuana looked very surprised. “Dad?”

“You didn’t know? Well, yes, I am Bobby’s father.”

She crossed her arms. “I knew there was a reason not to trust you.”

John sighed. “Teajuana, I’m here about Mr. Conryou.” She froze and awaited judgement. “The council and I decided that he needed to be stopped. We just didn’t know how to confront him. You actually did us a service by ending his existance. Now he can’t hurt anyone else.”

“So. . .you’re not mad? You’re not going to expell me?” she asked, hoping what she thought was true.

“That’s right. In fact, we want to reward you.”

“Reward me?”

“Yes.” John sat next to her. “We will pay for everything and anything you want to do. Think of it as a vacation.”

“Can I go anywhere I want? Maybe. . .maybe get a job?”

“You can.”

For the first time in forever, Teajuana smiled, “I want to go to Egypt and have a job guarding the tombs!”

“I’ll arrange it then. I’ll let you know in a week what will happen, ok?”

“Ok.”

John got up to leave and looked at her. “You know, you should smile more often. You’re beautiful when you do.”

“Dad’s right. You are, Teajuana,” Bobby agreed.
