Nazo no Kisu (Mysterious Kiss)
Chapter 25 is amongst us readers! There are still so many questions to be answered! But the main
one that is on everyone's mind...is Atemu ok? This chapter will not be done from Yugi's or Atemu's
POV (Yugi: Huh? Atemu: If we're not doing it, then who?). Instead, Seth gets POV honors for this
chapter. (Seth: Me?!)

Chapter 25: One in a Million
Alexandria, Egypt, Africa. Home to me and my family, the Ikhras. Home to my um, my ab, my aunt,
my uncle, my grandparents, and my cousin, Atemu Ikhras. (AN: I found some Arabic words on the
net. They're not that hard to remember. Um is Mother, and Ab is Father, Ibn is Son,
Shrukan Gazillan is Thank you, and Min Fadilak is Please)
Atemu, my Japanese-born, male-loving cousin. The same cousin who almost died on his 18th
birthday, at the house...no, take it even further, the bedroom of his lover, Yugi Mutou.
From what my parents have been telling me, Yugi's in a deep state of depression. Has been since
the day Atemu left. I guess by now he knows about Atemu's condition. From the look on Yugi's
eyes that day, he knew more than he wanted to.
For almost a month now, we've been in Alexandria Hospital with Atemu. He still hasn't regained
consciousness since that day, and the doctors say that Death's Toll is beginning to spread rapidly.
The temporary cure for Death's Toll, the 'Rose Bloom' vaccination, won't be availiable to Atemu
until December, which is still 5 months away.
Today is my day to stay with Atemu. The hospital will only allow one family member per day per
patient due to limited space.
I've been here since 5am, it's about 10am now, looking at my helpless cousin who's only
surviving with a toxin and many many tubes running to and from him.
Offers have been made at the synagogue for Atemu's health and strength. All we can do now, is
wait.
'knock knock'
The door opens. It's his doctor.
"Seth. How is he?"
You're the doctor, you should be telling me.
"Nothing's changed." I inform him.
"I hate to tell his parents this, but he's close to being brain dead. After the virus has finished
feeding on his brain, it will attack his heart. It is then he will die."
I feel my heart sink into my stomach. Only if there was anything I could do. Let my body hoste
the virus. Let me die in his place. He has someone to return to, someone to love.
"Please doctor, he will live."
"We can only let nature take its course now." he says writing something down on Atemu's
charts, then leaving.
I take a hold onto Atemu's hand, squeezing tightly...praying faithfully for his well-being and
survival. I feel my hand being crunched... has he?!
"Yu...gi..." he says faintly.
"Atemu! You're awake!!" I yell, completely forgetting I'm in a hospital.
The door swings open and the doctor and a nurse runs in. I step back a little, giving them all
the room they need to help him in any way possible.
"Yugi. Where is he?"
The doctors look at themselves, then at me.
"Do you know who Yugi is Seth?" the doctor asks me.
I nod. "Yugi is his significant other."
"That sounds like a Japanese name."
Duh...
"He is Japanese."
"Is Yugi ok? He's not doing well because of me. But please tell him I feel much better now and I
will return to him soon."
Could he have known of Yugi's condition?! Are they that strongly connected? Even over 5
thousand miles away?! Is their love...their bond that strong?
"Please doctor, please call my parents, please call Atemu's parents and tell them that Atemu has
regained consciousness and for them to tell Yugi."
The doctor looks at me, then at Atemu. He nods.
"Shara, please call the Ikhras and alert them of this immediately."
"Yes, right away doctor."
"Thank you, doctor."
He smiles at me. Then I hear beeping. A pager. The doctor holds it up, then runs out the room.
"I'll be back as soon as I handle this!" he says then shuts the door.
I look at Atemu, he's still looking desperate, helpless, lonely.
"Atemu?"
His head slowly rolls towards me and he looks at me.
"Seth. Please tell Yugi that I'm ok. I suddenly got dizzy."
"Don't stress yourself Atemu. You've been in a coma for a month now."
"A month? It's been that long? Where am I?"
"Alexandria."
He sighs.
"Once again distance comes between us. But one day that distance will shorten and we will be
inseperable."
Hopefully you will be able to live to see that day.
The door opens and our family comes through the door.
"Atemu?!" Akunumkanon yells. "Ibn, are you alright?" (AN: Ibn-Son)
"Yes, much better." he replies trying to sit up.
"Lay back, you have been through a lot." Aunt Isis says as she eases him back.
"I want to talk to Yugi. I know he isn't doing well." pleads Atemu.
Will someone please let him talk to Yugi. I can't stand to see him in so much pain!
"Min Fadilak, Aunt Isis, Uncle Akunumkanon! Let him talk to Yugi. To see him in this state hurts
my heart." (AN: Please)
"Seth...please, run home. Call the Mutous and give them this number immediately!"
"Shukran gazillan!" I say grabbing the keys and running as fast as I could to dad's car.
(AN: Thank you very much!)
I speed home, not miding about all the police on the road. They know who I am. My family, the
Ikhras, are well known and respected in Egypt. We are direct descendants of the last great
pharaoh, Pharaoh Atemu. Yea, Atemu was named after him as I was named for the highest priest
who served under him.
I run to the front door, almost forgetting to unlock it, almost knocking myself out cold. Now that
wouldn't be good.
'ring...ring...ring...'
Phone...Atemu's room! Don't stop ringing....don't hang up...
"Hello?!"
"Seth?"
Phew, made it!
"Yes, it is me! How is Yugi, Mr. Mutou?"
"Much better Seth. When Jou came over, it was like he got a new spark of life in him. But, how is
Atemu-kun?"
"He woke up."
"Kami..."
"Please, Mr. Mutou. Please dial this number."
I wait until he gets pen and paper and he writes the number down.
"Yugi will be so excited to hear this!" he yells then says something in Japanese.
"Huh?"
"Ah, sorry Seth. I was just saying thank you very much."
"You are very welcome."
We say our goodbyes and hang up.
'ring...ring...'
Who the hell is this?!
"Hello."
"Seth, he's taken a turn for the worst!" says Aunt Isis.
He can't catch a break! Damn!
I leave and turn and 15 minute drive into a 5 minute drive. I run up to Atemu's room and everyone
is standing outside.
"What's wrong? Um? Ab? Aunt? Uncle?! Will someone tell me something!"
"Go in, ibn." dad says to me.
I slowly open the door, scared of what else has happened to my dearest cousin.
"Seth? Did you bring Yugi to me?"
If that was in my power...he would never leave your side.
"No. Are you..."
"Ok? Yes I am. I talked to Aibou while you were gone. I could only imagine how his sweet,
innocent smile will continue to illuminate the world."
Ok...
"What are you saying Atemu?"
"He's a beautiful, handsome man. Haven't you seen how much he's grown both inside and out?"
It has to be the brain damage.
"Nah, you don't know. Gomen ne Seth. I have some news for you both good and bad."
"What is it Atemu?"
"I'm a miracle."
"Iaa, Atemu, you are!" I say walking to him and holding his hand.

His eyes...why are his eyes so glossy like that? I didn't notice it earlier...
"Do you know that only one out of every million diagnosed with Death's Toll will survive? Keep
in mind that this virus is extremely rare. My chances of living are literally 0%. But Seth, I am
that one."

Wow! Now that's some great news! Atemu's going to live! He's not going to die from Death's
Toll! The story will go on right? Of course it is! Yugi and Atemu must reunite again!
*As for the reason why Yugi doesn't get the virus, it's because it is only contracted through open
cuts, wounds, and abrasions so it would get directly into the person's blood stream. ;)
*If you all really want to know the secret as to why I can update so fast, it's because I prewrite my
fics before I post them. Well, at least 10 chapters, beforehand so I can always go back and reread
and re-edit them as needed before they are posted.
