The Viking Brothers

Chapter 27: The Rescue

Seto’s Room:

“What happened to you?” Ryou ran to Seto and jumped into his arms, clutching him tight. He immediatly began sobbing into Seto’s chest and the sheet slipped to the floor. Seto blushed angrily, annoyed about being interrupted and Ryou’s sudden nakedness. “What’s going on?” Ryou sniffed and held him tighter.

“S-sorry Seto, but-but I need someone to talk to!”

“Why me?”

“You know more about Bakura! You’re the only one I can turn to!” Seto sweatdropped. He might as well work at a bar in a tavern, “Seto the Bartender”. Everyone comes to tell him about their problems anyway, so the occupation would fit him.

“What did he do now?”

“I’ll never be nothing more than a slave to him!” Ryou sobbed out. “He’ll never love me!! Never!! I’m just a slave!! A slave!!”

“What else did he do to you? You’re all cut up!” Ryou looked up at him with red rimmed eyes.

“He...he said he put these marks on me to show others that I belong to him.” He hung his head. “You see, I...I was coupling with his cousin and he saw, and-“ Seto blinked, shocked by Ryou’s confession.
“You“You did what?! YOU?!” Ryou nodded “Why? Wait, here, sit down and tell me what happened. Calm down, now.”

As if on cue, Jou suddenly entered the room and froze in place. Both looked at him, Seto in shock and Ryou still in hysterics. Jou glared and crossed his arms, noticing the current situation: Ryou naked and wrapped in Seto’s arms.

“Am I interrupting something here?” He asked in annoyance.

“Jou, it’s not what it looks like!! Tell him Ryou!” Ryoiffeiffed.

“I need to talk to Seto about Bakura!”

“He’s had a rough time as you can see.” Seto added as he helped guide Ryou to the nearest chair. “Get that sheet to cover him up, pup.” Jou was confused, but when he saw the red marks on Ryou’s body, he knew that Seto wouldn’t do something like that. It must have been Bakura. Jou made a mental note that he had to stop jumping to conclusions. He picked up the sheet and brought it over to Ryou, laying it over his shoulders.

“Tell us what happened, Ryou.” Seto said gently. Jou joined Seto at his side and held his arm. “From the beginning.”

“Well...as you already know, I saw Bakura coupling with a servant. I....I know he does that, but it did hurt my feelings. I want him to be happy, but you’re right Seto, it doesn’t make me happy. I...I don’t like it.”

“That’s only natural.” Jou said.

“So...I met Bakura’s cousin, Davin.”

“I can see where this is going.” Jou said, and Seto squeezed his hand.

“We talked, and we had a lot in common, and he was nice, sensitive, and...and everything Bakura wasn’t. I thought, if Bakura could pick and choose who he wanted to sleep with, then so could I. I...I needed to feel loved. I wanted someone who was gentle, kind, and mindful of my feelings. Davin was all of that in one, but...but I still...love Bakura, with all my heart. I-I know that’s strange, to be in love with someone who hurts you, but I can’t help it!” He buried his face in his hands. “He’s more possessive than anyone else, he told me that tonight and proved it! I like the possessive part, but it’s all in the wrong ways! It’s not for love, only possession!

For awhile, I thought he was falling in love with me! He brought me home a bunny, and I got word from Tristan that he was giving me a pony. But why would he do those nice things for me then treat me like this?!Why can’t he love me like you love Jou!?” Seto and Jou exchanged glances.

“Bakura doesn’t know love like ours, Ryou.” Seto said and Jou looked back at Ryou.

“That’s why you have to teach him, like I taught Seto.” Ryou’s eyes widened in hope.

“How did you get Seto to fall so deeply in love with you!?” Jou smiled.

“It wasn’t easy. Seto had the biggest stick up his ass you’d wonder why it didn’t pop out from his mouth!” Seto grunted and frowned angrily.

“Watch your tongue, dog.” Jou turned back to Seto and poked his nose.

“Let me tell him, Seto. Please? He needs to hear this right now.” Seto looked at Ryou’s hug puppy dog eyes and gave in.

“Okay, just don’t get carried away.” Jou sat on the armrest of the chair and Ryou gave him his full attention.

“Well, when I was first brought to the camp, I was practically going to be a sexual sacrifice for either Bakura or Marik. But, Seto came to my rescue, at least I thought he was.” Seto chuckled.

“I pulled him into my tent and started screwing him senseless. He loved it!” Jou threw a book at Seto’s head who easily dodged it.

“Aside from THAT, I slowly worked my way into Seto’s heart. I can’t help it, I’m just so cute and sexy!!” *fanfare* But, Seto would always call me “Mongrel”, or “pup”, and start barking at me. That hurt my feelings, a lot.”

“You have to admit though, pup, that you lusted after me too. Ryou didn’t know the meaning of the word “lust” until he met Bakura.” Jou glared at him.

“Let me tthe the story please! I don’t need any comments from the peanut gallery!” Seto chuckled and went back to his desk so Jou can continue his story. “So, as I said, I slowly made my into Seto’s heart, but it wasn’t easy. Seto didn’t want to be in a relationship with anyone. I admit, I fell in love with Seto before he did me, and I wondered the same thing you did. “Why do I love someone who hurts me?”. Then, I realized that Seto needed to know how much I care for him.

So one day, Seto came back from a battle and was severely wounded. He was out cold and bleeding everywhere, but I took care of him. He was out for at least three days, then when he came to he got sick. When he realized that I never left his side for a minute-“ Seto suddenly came up from behind and wrapped his arms around Jou’s shoulders.

“That’s when I knew this puppy’s true feelings for me, and I feel in love.” Seto smiled and buried his nose in Jou’s golden hair. Jou flushed happily. “He showed his loyalty to me like a good little doggie.”

“And his name calling is just a way of saying, “I love you”! Right Seto?” Seto smirked.

“Hm, sometimes.” Jou pouted. “I’m kidding, pup.” Ryou smiled at the two.

“Oh, I see. That was very sweet of you, Jou, to take time out of your life to help Seto.” Jou nodded. “But, Bakura’s personality is far from Seto’s. Seto is a bit more opened and not afraid to admit his feelings. You’re story is a sweet one, Jou, but I’m afraid it doesn’t help me at all. I’ve tried all that, and nothing’s working. Maybe we just aren’t meant to be.” Seto stood in front of Ryou and placed a hand on his head. Ryou blinked and looked up at him.

“I think you’re right, Ryou. You’ve done a lot, and Bakura is not budging one bit. You’re wasting your time and heart on him, Ryou. I don’t want to sound like I’m being mean, but he would have fallen in love with you by now if he cared. You have a lot of love to give, Ryou. Don’t waste it on someone who doesn’t want to love you back. You’re still very young, and have your whole life ahead of you.” Ryou felt tears well up in his eyes at Seto’s words. “I know this hurts because he’s your first love, Ryou, but he won’t be your last. You’re a very pretty boy, Ryou, and if you give yourself time to mature, you’ll be turning heads left and right. It’ll be hard trying to get over him, but if you’re strong, then you’ll be able to do it. Save yourself the pain.” Jou looked at Seto, not expecting something like that to come from Seto. They were suppose to be supporting Ryou, not make him feel worse!

“Maybe you’re right, Seto.” Ryou said, folding his hands together in his lap. “Maybe I am wasting my time on Bakura. But, he’s so possessive of me, and would NEVER let me take another lover! I’m stuck with him wether I want to leave him or not.” Seto frowned.

“Iad tad to say I have no answer for that, Ryou. I can try to talk to Bakura, but I don’t think he’ll listen.” Ryou stood up, holding the sheet tightly around his body.

“He won’t listen to you, Seto, so don’t even bother. I’m sorry to have disturbed you. Goodnight.” Jou put a hand on Ryou’s shoulder.

“Ryou-“ But he brushed it off.

“I need to be alone now, Jou. Thanks for your help.”

Ryou left the room, feeling worse than when he went in. There was truth in Seto’s words, and they hurt him, deeply. He was right, Bakura didn’t care for him. He was just a sex slave for Bakura’s pleasure to have however and whenever he wanted. He could have no freedom of his own, Bakura wouldn’t let him. He was so controlling and selfish.

As if in a daze, he walked back to Bakura’s room, hoping he wasn’t in there. When he opened the door, he let out a sigh of relief as Bakura was no where in sight. Quietly he closed the door and dropped the sheet to the floor. *that rhymes!* He sat down on the bed, a thousand thoughts running through his mind. What was he to do with himself now? Ryou fell back on the bed and began sobbing into the pillows. When had his life become so complicated and hurtful? Maybe it would have been better if he never met Bakura at all! The pain he felt in his heart was unlike anything he’d ever felt before. He couldn’t stand it.

Off in the corner of the room, a shiny object caught his eye. It was Bakura’s sword. Ryou sat up and slid off the bed, walking over to the weapon. There was only one way to end this pain, and he wanted to be rid of it. He didn’t want to live his life as a pleasure slave to a person who could never love him back. He would have no freedom of his own and could only to live by the will of his master. He didn’t want that for himself. He couldn’t take it.

Picking up the heavy sword, Ryou carried over to the bed and sat back down. Bakura said the name of his sword was Bloodrinker, and it was going to do its job. Maybe there was something better for him in the afterlife. Maybe God would be merciful and overlook his sins, letting him enter heaven. He could only hope God would be forgiving. He couldn’t stand to be around someone he loved who would never love him back. Hopefully Malik and Yugi will understand why he did this. He didn’t want to leave his friends, but they had their lovers to comfort them, he had nothing.woulwould be much easier for them to move on with their lovers support.

Slowly, Ryou cleared his mind and lifted the blade over his wrist. Taking a deep breath, he quickly drug the blade over the pale skin. He let out a pained cry and dropped the sword, watching the blood gush out from the wound. It was dark and warm, but his body felt cold. He laid back on the bed, watching as the blood soaked the white sheet. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he thought of Bakura, the man he was going to hell for if God did not forgive. Why wasn’t anything ever for him? Why? Did he do something wrong is a previous life to deserve this? Was Bakura worth going to hell for? A man he gave his heart and mind for who hated him in return? His heart and mind were to numb from blood lost to give him a strait answer. Slowly the light faded and darkness blurred his vision. It became harder to breath, and the room became cold. But, something felt a piece. He was drifting....drifting....drifting...

Bakura whistled as he headed to his room. His belly was full of good ale and food, and that bed was calling him. Ryou was probably still in there, crying his eyes out. He’d better stop before that crying when Bakura wanted to sleep! Or he’ll slap him one. The previous activities had made his day. He got to yell at Davin and fully claim Ryou as his. Ryou was a good lay, and so in love with him to do anything he wished. Yup, life was good. He made it to the door of his room and threw it open.

“Hey Ryou! Get your ass over here! I want some lovin’!” Bakura noticed Ryou and bed, and he wasn’t moving. Bakura glared at him. “Hey, don’t you ignore me, slave!! Get over here!!” Ryou still didn’t move and Bakura became angry. With a low growl, he stomped over to the bed and raised his arms back for a slap, but froze. A circle of blood stained the sheets below Ryou’s slit wrist, and more pumped out in its wake.

“RYOU?!? HEY, RYOU!?!? RYOU!!!” Bakura crawled on top of him and started shaking the boy by his shoulders. “HEY! WAKE UP!! RYOU!! RYOU!!” Ryou didn’t answer, but just laid there like a rag doll. Bakura ripped a strip of fabric from his tunic and quickly tied it tight around Ryou’s bleeding wrist. Then he scooped the boy up into his arms and ran from the room. He had to make it to the doctor’s room and fast! He just hoped he wasn’t to late. Why would Ryou do this?! He thought wildy to himself as he ran down the hallways. A wave of relief came over him as he made it to the doctors room. He threw the door open, startling the two doctors and a few patients.

“What the-“ one of the doctors started before Bakura silenced him.

“We have to save him!!”

Keith’s Castle:

Duke stood out on the balcony, gazing up at the bright stars. He wondered if Tristan was looking up at the sky thinking of him. Tristan seemed to be on his mind more than ever recently. He wasn’t complaining though, he’d rather have Tristan on his mind than Keith. Just the name alone makes him shudder. And on top of that, he has to be all “snuggly” with him. He much rather cuddle up with Tristan on a moldy haystack than lay in Keith’s arms.

Well, the only good thing about Keith was that he was very gullible. Duke smirked e mae marveled at his own performance. Keith fell for his fake tears and words. What a fool. Duke thought to himself. He was able to talk Keith out of attacking Yami’s castle. Now that he had his memories back, he remembered everything about everyone. He was still confused about WHY Keith wanted to attack Yami. He should wait a bit before asking him, Keith might get angry or something. He managed to get on good terms with Keith, and didn’t want to spoil it.

“Duke.” Duke nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard his name. “Don’t stand out on the balcony dressed like that!” Keith tailors were taking their sweet time making Duke’s nightclothes. He was still sleeping in women’s night dresses. There was no way he would sleep naked with Keith if it wasn’t necessary. Whoever wore these before him must have liked light, silky things. Keith picked up a blanket and brought it over to Duke, draping it around his shoulders.

“But it’s such a warm night, darling.”

“I know, but I don’t want to advertise what is mine.” Duke held the blanket around him to keep it from slipping off.

“But there’s no moon out tonight, Keith. It would be hard for someone to see me way up here.”

“Still, it’s the thought of someone seeing you dressed liked that. I don’t know what’s taking those tailors so long?” Duke frowned realizing that Keith was a control freak, which was going to make things even harder, he just knew it. Keith leaned forward on the balcony. “Anyway, what were doing? Stargazing again?”

“Yes, and thinking about home.”

“Well, what do you miss about home?” Keith asked.

“I miss the trees, the lakes, the deer-“

”We have all that here, Duke.”

“But you never let me go outside. I feel like a caged bird.”

“The games are in four days, and you’ll be outside then.” Duke stood next to him.

“The games? One of the servants said you weren’t going to take me.”

“I changed my mind, I need a cheerleader for when I participate in the events. So just be patient. And I talked it over with Pegasus, and I decided to cancel my attack on Yami.” Duke smiled, relieved at the news.

“Thank you for this, Keith. I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Ha! Not that I would! But my men do not think the same as me. I have to look out for their lives too. They have families who need them.”

“Well, I’m glad that you came to your senses, darling. I’m going to hit the sack, you coming?” Duke invited with a smile, when he was really frowning inside. He had to keep resisting the urge to vomit whenever he was with Keith. He had to get out of here, fast, and tell Yami about everything.

“Not yet. I still have some things to do before the games.” Keith answered as he walked back into the room, heading for the door.

“Very well. Goodnight lover.” Duke said as he walked back into the room.

“Night. I shouldn’t be to much longer.” As soon as Keith closed and locked the door, Duke sneered and threw the blanket to the floor.

“God I hate him!!!”

In the stables

Tristan sighed as he sat down in one of the stalls, completely exhausted. Training new horses wasn’t easy. Having to spend extra time on something makes him lose interest quickly. He had gotten the job done, however. Four horses were ready and trained for the games, including Avaldamon. Now, he could rest a few days before the games. Wait, scratch that last one. He can’t give himself free time, for it makes him about Duke. He looked out the stable windows, gazing at the sky. He wondered if Duke was looking at the sky, thinking of him. Tristan covered his face with his hand and sighed deeply. He lifted his head as he heard the sound of close hooves on fresh straw. What greeted him was the large, black furred body of Avaldamon.

“Hey Av.” Avaldamon nearly knocked him over as he nudged him with his nose. “What? I fed you already!” the horse stomped it’s hoof and neighed. “Don’t you take that tone with me, I’m in a lousy mood as it is!” A long, slimy tongue licked at his face, making his hair stick up on one side. Tristan couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you trying to cheer me up, Av?” The horse neighed and nudged him again. “Thanks boy, I appreciate it. I know I haven’t been myself, but I missed Duke so much. I can’t get him out of my mind. That bastard Keith is having his way with him while I sit here, completely powerless! I don’t even know if he’s dead or alive. With that sharp tongue of his, I wouldn’t be surprised if Keith took his sword to him. I just wish there was something I could do. Jou said I shouldn’t do anything or I’d cause trouble, but I can’t just do nothing! What if Duke is calling out for me to save him? I don’t even know where he is in Keith’s castle! And I’m sure it’s heavily guarded since Keith’s castle is mostly made up of men. I wouldn’t have a chance going up against all those Vikings.” He sighed. “Why am I telling you all of this? I shouldn’t be dumping things on animals. Sorry boy.”

A servant came into the stable, holding a small scroll. Tristan stood up and greeted the man.

“Can I help you?”

“Well, this note came for you from Keith’s message owl. The bird just flew in with it in its mouth. The name on it is yours.” Tristan gasped

“Keith’s castle?! Give me that!!” Tristan snatched it out of the man’s hands and shooed him away. He sat down on a nearby stool and untied the string. He immediately began reading.

Tristan,
I’ve finally had a chance to write to you. Please come rescue me! I’m in the highest tower of Keith’s castle, in his room. Please hurry! I can’t stand being away from you! Come at night so we can hopefully make a clean escape. I’m waiting for you.
Love,
Duke

Tristan read the note over again to confirm what Duke said. He wanted him to come to his rescue! Now he knew where they were keeping Duke and he quickly saddled a horse. He packed a small knapsack of apples to eat on the way. He grabbed his cloak and slipped it on. He jumped up onto his horse and patted Avaldamon on the head.

“I’ll be back boy! Watch the stalls!” With that, Tristan reared his horse and rode out of the stable, Avaldamon watching him leave. Tristan knew it was almost a days ride to Keith’s castle and get there by nightfall of tomorrow. “Hold on, Duke! I’m coming!!”

Doctor’s Room:

Bakura sat by Ryou’s side, waiting for him to wake up. What he saw when he entered the room actually horrified him. He would never have thought Ryou would do something like that. Why would he try to hurt himself like that? Ryou didn’t seem to mind what Bakura did to him earlier....

He thought back to the conversation with Davin and Ryou, and found the answer to his question. Ryou said he was upset about him sleeping with others. But he’s a master of this house, so it’s okay for him. Ryou told him that he didn’t mind Bakura sleeping around as long as he was happy. So, Bakura took him up on that offer. So why did he feel guilty about it?

Thinking back to his parents, he remembered a conversation the two had. It was almost the same conversation that he and Ryou had. Bakura heard mother say to father that she didn’t care about his mistresses as long as he still felt something for her. And he did, he always came back to her, and Bakura thought he could do the same. Then, he remembered seeing his mother crying about it. Just like Ryou, she wasn’t really lenienth whh what father did. Was history repeating itself? But his mother never did anything like this to herself. Well, not that he knew of anyway. A soft moan emitted from the bed and alerted Bakura’s attention.

“Ryou?!” Bakura stood up, leaning over the boy. Ryou whimpered and opened his eyes. “Ryou!”

“Ba-“ Bakura glared at him.

“What the fuck were you thinking?!” he yelled, making Ryou wince.

“I...I...”

“What?!” Ryou started to cry at Bakura’s yelling. He was so tired and weak...he was scared.

“I’m...I’m sorry.” Bakura growled.

“That’s all you have to say?! You almost died!”

“That was the point.” Bakura’s anger turned back to confusion.

“Why? Why do you want to throw your life away?” Ryou sniffed and turned huge, teary green eyes up to Bakura.

“Because...because of you.” Bakura blinked.

“Me?” Ryou nodded

“I don’t want to live my life as a possession. I need to be loved by someone, and not owned. I rather be dead than have to live my life bound to one who doesn’t love me back.” Bakura sighed.

“Why do you love me? Why would you love me?” Ryou actually smiled.

“I just do. You’re strong, handsome, and brave. You have some gentleness in you, but it is buried deep within your heart. You brought me that bunny, and I couldn’t remember the last time I had gotten a gift so wonderful! You took my innocence in the wrong way, but you introduced me to true pleasure not long after. See this red ribbon? It’s called a love knot. It’s there just for you, to show my undying love.

But there’s only one thing that bothers me, it’s when you sleep around. Can’t I be the only one for you? Tell me what you want and I’ll do it. I’ll be what you want so you don’t have to go to servants! Please Bakura, please just give it a try?” Ryou took Bakura’s hand in his. “Give me a try?”

Bakura looked down at him in utter confusion. Everything that came out of Ryou’s mouth were words never spoken to him before! How was he suppose to answer that? “Love” wasn’t in his vocabulary. Sure, he felt something with Ryou, but he didn’t know what it was. Ryou was looking at him with HUGE puppy dog eyes and it made him look so....pitiful. Ryou was actually begging them to be lovers. Could he commit himself to one person? Ryou said he would do anything he wanted, even during sex. Bakura smirked to himself. That would be interesting! What the hell...

“Alright, lets give it a try.” Ryou smiled in such a way that Bakura felt it pull at his heart string. It was so...he couldn’t describe it.

“Will you lay with me for a bit?” Ryou said sweetly, making room for him on the bed. Bakura actually smiled gently and crawled in beside him. Ryou cuddled up against him, resting his body on the warm chest. He nuzzled his face in Bakura’s neck, sighing happily. Bakura had to admit, it felt nice. Ryou was so small and weak, that he needed Bakura by his side.

“I love you, Bakura.” Ryou said, squeezing him tight. “I hope to hear those same words from you, someday.” Bakura wrapped his arm around Ryou’s waist.

“Someday.”

Outside Keith’s Castle:

Tristan tied the horse to a tree and took the rope from the saddle. He could see a light in the window of the tower Duke was suppose to be. Just to be sure it was the right tower, Tristan began climbing the tree to get a better look. He slipped a few times going up, but managed to make it to the top. Once there, he could clearly see into the room, and saw Duke! A smile lit his face as he watched him move around the room.

His smile turned to an angry frown when Keith joined Duke at his side. Keith wrapped his arms around Duke’s shoulders and pulled him close. Tristan growled and nearly fell out of the tree. At least Keith wasn’t mistreating him, but he was a little to close to what was HIS!

To his luck, Keith left the room and Duke was alone. As fast as he could, he climbed down the tree and ran to the tower. Of course there was a moat, why wouldn’t there be one? Why was everything so difficult for him!? Carefully, as not to make noise, he slipped into the moat and swam to the other side.

Once he reached the bank, he set to finding a way up the wall. A large patch of ivy climbed up the side of the wall. Throwing the rope over his shoulder, he proceeded to climb up the ivy. He hoped the plant would hold until he reached the top. That’s all he needed to do was fall! Then his heroic efforts would be in vain!

The ivy stopped growing a quarter of the way to the balcony. Balancing himself on the ivy, he made a loop with the rope and threw it up. It hooked onto one of the upright stones and held tight. Tristan climbed up the rope to the top of the balcony. He took a peek over the top and looked inside the room. Duke was sleeping in the bed, his figure slightly hidden by the thin fabric curtains.

Seeing as no one was around, Tristan threw himself over the balcony wall. Taking another peek around the room to make sure it was clear, he entered the lavished chamber. He hurried over to the bed and parted the curtains. Duke stirred in his sleep, but didn’t wake up. Tristan smiled and brought his hand down to stroke Duke’s cheek. Duke blinked his eyes opened sleepily and looked up. Before he could make any noise, Tristan covered his mouth with his hand.

“Shh. I’ve come to rescue you!” Tristan whispered, lowering his hand from Duke’s mouth.

“Tristan, is it really you?!” Duke whispered back.

“You’re not dreaming, if that’s what you think.” Duke threw the covers off and leaped into Tristan’s arms.

“You’re here!!”

“Shh!” Tristan shushed him before returning the embrace.

Duke squeezed him tight, trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. He had dreamed of this moment, and he wanted to savor it. Being held in Tristan’s arms gave him such a sense of protectiveness and love. He noticed that Tristan must have built up a bit more muscle, for he was more firm than normal. But Duke didn’t mind, he was just so happy to have Tristan holding him in a tight embrace.

“I missed you so much!” Duke said, burying his face into Tristan’s neck.

“I missed you too, more than anything. You were on my mind all the time.”

“How did you know where to find me?” Duke asked, pulling away to look him in the face.

“I got a message from someone telling me of your whereabouts.” Duke frowned.

“I hope that wasn’t a trick.”

“I don’t think so, Duke.s bes been right this whole time, so we’re okay. Come on, lets get you out of here and back home with me! Where you belong!” Tristan helped him out of the bed and noticed his attire. “Maybe you better cover yourself up.” Duke sighed.

“I would, but Keith has all my clothes! He likes me dressed like this.” Tristan growled low in his throat.

“That perverted Viking swine! Lets get out of here before I decided to hunt him down and cut his balls off!

“How did you get up here, anyway?” Duke asked as Tristan covered him with his cloak.

“I climbed!” he said, quite proud of himself..

“Climbed?! So we have to climb DOWN?!” Tristan nodded. “But, it’s so high up!”

“So? I’ll carry you!” Tristan scooped him up in his arms and walked over to the balcony. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall.”

Duke gulped and held onto Tristan’s neck tightly. Tristan climbed over the stone and gripped Duke’s waist along with the rope. Slowly, Tristan started to hop down the wall, keeping a firm girp on Duke. Duke clenched his eyes shut to keep from looking down. He really didn’t like the feeling of dangling high in the sky, but Tristan’s death grip on his waist gave him some comfort. For sure, he was going to have definite bruises. But, in a way, it was short of cute and romantic. Duke flushed slightly as he thought of a princess being recuse from the evil ogre by a handsome prince.

“Have you ever done this before?” Duke asked.

“Well, not going down.” Duke gulped.

“Just don’t let me fall!”

“I won’t.” Duke giggled.

“You know, in some ways you’re just like my handsome prince coming to rescue!”

“You got the handsome part right. We’re almost there, so when we reach the ivy slide onto my back and hold tight, okay? I’ll climb down so you don’t get that pretty little lacy thing torn!” Duke pinched his shoulder.

“Pervert.”

When they made it to the end of the rope, Duke slid carefully onto Tristan’s back. Tristan started his way down the ivy with Duke secure on his back. Duke took in the familiar scent of Tristan, even if it he did stink. He was happy to be back with Tristan, and even welcomed that barnyard smell.

After what seemed like forever, Tristan made it to the bottom of the tower. Duke slid off his back and onto the cold ground. He held the cloak tighter around him, catching a chill from the moat. Tristan said nothing as he slid down into the dark water, motioning for Duke to follow. Duke knew the water was freezing, and didn’t want to. Tristan glared at him and pointed his finger to the water. Duke stomped his foot and crossed his arms, glaring back. Tristan rolled his eyes and held his arms out for Duke. Duke didn’t want to do it, but he had to get away from Keith, and this was the only way. Taking a deep breath, he eased into the water and into Tristan’s arms. Silently, the two glided through the water, managing to not attract attention. They climbed out of the water and Tristan took Duke’s hand, guiding him across the grounds to where the horse was tied up.

Keith whistled as he signed some documents, eager to get the work done quickly so he could head up to Duke. He still couldn’t believe that he was actually in love; and with an Englishman for that matter! What surprised him more is how it happened so fast. He thought he’d hate having Duke anywhere near him, but that all changed. He was quite happy having someone to go to after a hard days work. Duke was different too. He came off as a snobby, spoiled little Englishman at first, but now he not to see his true character. And it wasn’t all that bad. Things were starting to brighten up for him, who would tho thought?

“Lord Keith!!” A sudden voice came from the door with a hard pounding. “Lord Keith, may I enter?”

“Come in.” One of his men who guarded Duke’s room rushed in, looking...frightened? “What’s wrong?”

“Lord, your husband has escaped!”

“WHAT?!” Keith shot up from the chair in complete outrage. “HOW?!”

“He climbed down the balcony, sir! We didn’t even hear a THING! I apologize M’Lord”

“CUT THE BULLSHIT AND-“

”Keith, calm down.” Pegasus entered the room neI knI know who did it.” Keith ran around the desk and stood in front of his uncle, fists clenched in anger.

“WHO?!”

“That stable boy from Yami’s castle. What was his name again?”

“TRISTAN!” Keith shouted.

“Ah yes, that’s his name.” Keith growled.

“But, he doesn’t know the way to my castle!” Pegasus sighed.

“Dear nephew, you seem to forget who Tristan works for.” Keith gasped. “It’s clear that Yami told Tristan how to get here. He wasn’t thrilled about you suddenly taking Duke away, and probably let Tristan do the rescuing since he is in love your husband.” Keith was practically red in the face with pure anger and jealousy.

“I want him back, NOW!” Pegasus smirked.

“That can all be arranged. We’ll kill two birds with one stone. Join back with me, and I’ll win the stronghold while you win back your love. What do you say?” Keith opened his mouth to say something when a servant dashed inside the room.

“M’Lord, two men on a horse were just seen riding down the forest pathey bey believe one to be Lord Duke, sir.”

“SADDLE MY HORSE!! ROUND UP THE RIDERS AND TRACK THAT THIEF DOWN!! DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY!” The guard bowed.

“We’re way ahead of you, sir! The riders should be on their way out of the stables now.” Keith pushed past all of them and dashed down the halls.

“I swear, I’ll kill that rat bastard with my own hands!” He growled to himself as he made it to the stables where his horse was just saddled. He grabbed a random sword off the stable wall and jumped onto his horse, not wasting anytime in sending it into a full run. Up ahead of him, he saw the riders entering the forest path, and he wasn’t to late to join them.

Duke sat side saddled on the horse, cuddled up in Tristan’s arms. The forest was dark and silent, warm and breezy. The only sound they heard was the soft chirping of crickets. Duke rest his head against Tristan’s chest, letting out a sigh of relief. Tristan smiled down at him, kissing the top of his head gently. Duke giggled and buried his face in Tristan’s tunic top.

“I’m so thrilled to be back with you, Tris. I fell safe and warm in your arms. My knight in shining armor.”

“You will feel safe and warm in them every night, if you’ll have me.” Duke looked up at him.

“Of course I’ll have you!” He hung his head. “But...I’ve been tainted-“

”I don’t care if you’re pure or not. That doesn’t bother me! I’m just glad you’re back with me, where you belong. That doesn’t change who you are, Duke. I still love you.” Duke smiled and stroked Tristan’s cheek lovingly. “How many times has he slept with you?” Duke flushed bright red.

“Um...maybe about...five or six times?” Tristan frowned.

“Hmph. Then I’ll just have to double that score to claim you as mine.” Duke flushed a new shade of red. “Hey, do you hear that?”

“Hear what?”

“Shh.” Tristan stilled the horse, listening for sounds. Duke heard the faint sound of hoof beats, many of them. “Sounds like horses.”

“And it’s coming closer. Too close.” They both looked at each other in horror as the shouts of men echoed through the woods. “It’s Keith’s men! They must have found out I escaped!!”

“I SEE THEM!” Both men gasped as the faint moving shadow figures of horses pasted along the trees.

Tristan forced the horse into a full run, Duke clutching onto him for dear life. Tristan looked over his shoulder and saw about a dozen men a couple of yards behind them. Keith was nowhere to be seen though in the dozen. Tristan focused his attention back on the forest road which was becoming more curvy much to their luck. He had to protect Duke! He came all this way to get him back, he wasn’t about to lose him again!!

“Tristan, where’s your weapon?!”

“Uh...” Duke glared up at him.

“YOU DIDN’T ARM YOURSELF!?” Tristan sweatdropped

“I thought I couo tho this all stealth like!” Duke growled.

“I take back the “Knight in shining Armor” thing!” The sudden “whoosh” of an arrow zoomed past their heads as the men took up their bows. Duke shrieked and hid inside Tristan’s tunic, trying to shield himself. Tristan bent forward more on the horse, trying to zigzag the horse so aim would be much more diffi. Bu. But the horse was being stubborn! “JUST GET OFF THE “OPEN” FOREST PATH YOU DUMBASS BEFORE YOU GET US KILLED!!”

Tristan listened to Duke and swerved the horse into the trees, hoping to lose the men. As the wove in and out of the trees, it became slightly easier to lose the men. Tristan guided the horse with grace through the trees, losing more and more of the men with every minute. The woods were dark and shady, which only added to their advantages. The sounds of the men became more distant and soon turned to silence once again. Tristan brought the horse to a halt, listening for any existing sounds of the warriors.

“We lost’em!” Tristan said, quite proud of himself. Duke humphed

“Just barely! Any idiot with common sense would know to get off an open road when there are torrents of arrows!! You num nut! You almost killed us!!”

“Hey, at least I protected you! I shielded you with my body!! Give me some credit here!” Duke pinched his shoulder. “Ow!”

“Sometimes, you’re completely worthless!! What man doesn’t bring a weapon during a rescue attempt?! What if Keith had confronted you!! What then?! He’d run his sword through your gizzard so fast you wouldn’t even know what hit you!! You almost killed us climbing down the tower wall, and you got me all wet in that dirty, murky water! Some knight!!” Tristan’s features became stern as he looked at Duke. “Tris-“

”That’s what you have to say after I rescued you from that Viking whoremonger!? I could have just left you there, you ungrateful brat!!” Duke blinked, Tristan took him by surprise with that sudden outburst.

“Tristan, I’m-“ Tristan shook his head.

“Just forget it. That hot temper of yours must be what is attracting me to you. You’re so hot headed sometimes, it’s just annoying! But that’s what is alluring about you. Well, for me, anyway.” Duke couldn’t help but smiled as he poked Tristan’s nose.

“You’re such a dummy, but you’re my dummy.” Duke brought Tristan’s face down to lock lips in a gentle kiss. Tristan quickly deepeit, it, bringing Duke’s face closer to his. Duke moaned and allowed Tristan’s tongue to pass through his lips, trusting deep into his mouth. He snaked his arms around Tristan’s neck and pulled his body closer. Tristan grabbed one of Duke’s legs and swung it over his lap so now they were comfortably facing each other. Tristan slid his hand up Duke’s leg, pushing the thin fabric up to his waist.

“Not now, Tris!” Duke said as he broke the kiss, breathing heavy.

“I just need to feel you.” He latched his lips to Duke’s neck, making Duke’s head lull back with a slight moan.

“Slow down, soldier!” Duke practically whispered.

“You’re enjoying it.”

“I am, but not here! Later-ow!” Tristan nipped at his neck.

“I feel the need to just smother you! The thought that his hands were caressing your skin infuriates me!! I’m marking MY territory, damn it!” Duke chuckled as Tristan’s hands seemed to be everywhere on him. His hands were probably the same size as Keith’s, but MUCH more calloused. It actually hurt a bit, but he didn’t have the heart to tell him that. He had already upset Tristan earlier. And he DID save him, so he’d better watch his mouth.

“DUKE!” they both looked up in fright as Keith reared his horse on a land ridge. Where’d he come from?! Duke clutched to Tristan’s waist as the horse took off in a run. Keith’s horse jumped from the ridge and began riding after them. They managed somehow to come back out on the forest path and Keith wasn’t far behind. Duke looked over Tristan’s shoulder and screamed as Keith wielded a large, double bladed battle axe.

After Tristan heard Duke scream he then looked back and gasped as Keith was quickly in striking range. He ducked his head as Keith swung the axe, shielding Duke with his body. Tristan shoved his heel into the horses side, making the animal speed up. Keith managed to get a few more swings in before he was out of range. Tristan cursed himself for not bringing a weapon with him. He could use it right about now!

Duke peeked out from under Tristan’s arm and watched as Keith rode his horse up onto another land ridge. He looked down at the path and saw the moonlight cast their shadows, and Keith’s slightly smaller one. His shadow was quickly passing them. Duke screamed again and pointed upward, alerting Tristan’s attention. They both watched as Keith’s horse jumped high from the ledge and landed safely a few feet in front of them. Tristan pulled on his horse’s reigns, trying to get the animal to slow and turn bacto tto the woods. Keith wasn’t far behind them, still swinging his axe with all his might.

They dodged the trees, trying to lose Keith like they lost the men before. Keith however, followed their every move. Tristan took a quick look back and could actually smell the breath of the horse as it was right behind them. Keith swung the axe again and both men felt their hair swish from the force of it. Tristan’s horse was a mare and Keith’s was clearly a stallion, not good. Plus, they were double mounted so it slowed their horse down. He should have been more prepared, even if he did think he could get out of this thing unnoticed.

Keith let out a battle war as he brought the axe down to the mare’s back leg, slicing clean through the skin. The mare let out a neighing wail and crashed to the ground, taking Duke and Tristan with it. Keith steered his horse away from the two, not wanting to run Duke over with the horse. Tristan helped Duke up but they both froze as Keith sat all high and mighty on his horse.

“How dare you take what’s mine, bastard!” Keith growled out, pointing his axe at Tristan. Tristan pushed Duke behind him.

“He was mine before he was yours! You stole him from me!”

“Duke needs a real man, not some frumpy stable boy who doesn’t even carry a weapon with him!” Tristan growled.

“I can fight hand to hand like a real man! I don’t always need to hide behind swords!” Keith snickered and slid his axe into a sheath on the saddle before hopping off.

“Alright then,” He cracked his knuckles. “Let’s see what you got, stable boy!” Duke whispered to him.

“Tristan...be careful!” Tristan pushed him roughly to the side.

“Stay out of the way, Duke! This is my fight!” Keith nodded.

“Don’t interfear either, Duke! Stay were you are, we’ll be heading back home soon.” Now Duke was confused. Should he play the part of Keith’s lover, or show his feelings for Tristan in front of him? Maybe he should just sit here and do nothing. Yeah, that sounded good. And the thought of people fighting over him was quite interesting...he could get used to this. He watched as the two circled one another, sizing each other up.

Keith flew at Tristan and took the first punch but he dodged it. Tristan was blocking Keith’s blows, but not very well. Tristan was strong, but Keith was stronger, as Duke knew. Keith slipped his foot under Tristan’s, causing him to lose his balance and topple forward. Keith’s fist met with his gut and he spat out droplets of blood. Next, Keith brought his knee up under Tristan’s chin, making him stumble backwards. Duke yelped and covered his eyes, not happy with the start of this fight.

Tristan saw his vision blur with the sudden hit to his jaw, stunning him. A punch met his face and he fell to the ground, tasting blood on his tongue. He got up on all fours but Keith’s foot quickly met with his ribs, knocking him on his back. Keith laughed and turned to Duke who was peeking out through his fingers

“See what a weakling he is! Ha, lousy punk thinks he can steal from me!” Keith said as he started back over to Duke, who remained still. He wasn’t sure if he should fight or make a break for it. He decided to pretend to be scared so it wouldn’t show who’s side he was on. Before Keith could reach him, Tristan grabbed his legs and made him fall face first on the ground. Duke backed up, wanting to get away from this brawl.

Tristan managed to get back up before Keith did and he readied himself for any more punches. Keith growled and jumped back up but met with Tristan’s fist first. Duke tried not to let out a cheer as Keith got punched square in the jaw. That was great! Keith wiped the blood from his mouth and glared at Tristan, who stood ready to fight.

“I see you take some pain.”

“I’ve had my fair share of fights! I fought against Vikings before!” Keith chuckled.

“You haven’t fought anyone like me. I’m a great warrior, superior to others of my kind!” Tristan smirked.

“Then why are you so afraid to battle Marik when he challenges you?” Keith glared. “A great Viking warrior never turns down the chance at a fight! You’re all talk!” Duke slapped a hand to his face, Tristan sure knew what to say to rile things up. Now Keith was probably gonna pop a vein anger. Keith let out a scream of rage and charged at him.

“You won’t get away with that one!”

Tristan grabbed one of Keith’s fists, blocking it. Keith swung his other hand, but Tristan grabbed that one too. It turned into a test of strength as they pushed against one another. Keith suddenly swung Tristan in the air and slammed him on the ground. Duke gasped and covered his eyes, he couldn’t watch anymore!

Tristan spun on the ground, doing a round house kick and knocked Keith off his feet. Tristan jumped back up and so did Keith. Keith charged at him with his fist raised and Tristan was ready to block his face. But Keith’s fist swung down and slammed into his gut again. Keith wrapped his arm around Tristan’s neck and held him still as he continued his assault.

Duke peeked out from between his fingers and nearly screamed as Tristan was getting the beating of a lifetime. He had to do something to stop this! It was going to far! Keith might even kill Tristan, and right in front of him! And he couldn’t bare to see that happen! But he was wrong as Tristan actually picked Keith up and threw him backwards, slamming them both hard to the ground. The fall hurt him more than it hurt Keith because he was quickly getting up again. Duke watched as Tristan was trying to get his bearings together while Keith was walking back to his horse? He gasped as Keith pulled his battle axe from the sheath and started heading back over to where Tristan lay. Keith WAS going to kill him!! He had to do something now!! Keith stood over Tristan and raised the axe high. Tristan’s eyes widened as he tried to get his numb body to move away. Duke suddenly came running and jumped up to grab at the hilt of the axe.

“Don’t do it!” Duke shouted, pulling on the axe. Keith looked back at him. “Please, don’t kill him! Please!!” Keith glared.

“And why not? Is there something you’re not telling me about him!?” Duke shook his head and let go of the axe to hug Keith’s waist from behind.

“Please, I don’t want anyone to die! I can’t bare it, Keith!”

“Then turn your head away! I’m gonna decapitate this “wife-robber”!” Duke reached back up and pulled the axe from Keith’s hands, nearly falling over with the weight of it.

“No! I don’t want anyone to die! Please Keith!! Let it go, darling!! Let it go! Please! I don’t want anyone to be hurt anymore!!” Duke cried out as he threw the heavy axe to the side. Keith turned his body around and let Duke embrace him. “Please don’t!”

“Duke...I-“ He didn’t finish his sentence as a sudden blow to the head knocked him out. He fell to the ground by Tristan’s feet, who stood with a branch in his hands. Duke looked at Keith’s body and knew he was out cold. He looked at Tristan and began to cry, jumping into his arms.

“He was going to kill you!! I had to do something!” Tristan embraced him back, ignoring the waves of pain that traveled throughout his body. Keith had really socked him a few.

“You were awfully lovey-dovey to him.” Duke sniffed and looked up at him.

“I had to put on an act of love to get him tost mst me. I was only distracting him before he decided killed you! It’s not real love, you’re my real love.” Duke said, holding him close. Tristan buried his nose in Duke’s hair and breathed deep his scent. Duke was back in his arms, where he belonged.
