Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-gi-oh. If I did…*begins to laugh evilly*
Warning: none
Author’s Note: Until I receive any sort of word that Chapter Ten of “Velvet” will be restored all writing on that story will end. If in the even t Chapter Ten cannot be salvaged due to the glitch, I’m sorry to inform you that chapter Nine will be the last Chapter of “Like Crushed Velvet”. My apologies to my readers and most of all to Velvetina whom the fic is dedicated. However, the glitch interrupted a flow that had just begun to start again and now that it’s cut off, I won’t be restarting it.

However, if you would like to know what would have happened, I encourage you to leave your email so you can be on the YGO fanfic mailing list I have built up. If there are those of you who are old fans of my fics and haven’t received update emails or my recent note about the glitch, then please, submit your email again.

Good news however, this fic will continue. I’m doing more Ryou development in this one and if you’ve got a better name for Ryou’s power than the one I mention in text, then go ahead and recommend it. Recently, I’ve been writing in the Prince of Tennis fandom, Please, oblige me by just going to take a peek if you’re familiar with that anime. I’d like to know what you think there as well.

And now, the story.

I Break Things

“Why are we going back there Big Brother?”

Bakura glanced at the blue prints to the mansion then back up at his brother. “Because they want us to. There’s something going on and I want to find out what. I think they’re trying to recruit us…”

Ryou flicked his tail, catching it in his hands. “But…why would we want to do that?”

“Do what?”

“Be recruited?” the kitten whipped his tail around in front of his eyes, catching it again with a laugh. “That man who almost caught me was kind of mean. He asked me who my owner was…”

This made the elder Neko raise his eyebrow. “Owner? We wear no collars. If he knew who we were he’d already know that we don’t belong to anyone.”

“What if they’re just trying to…get us? Like Akefia?”

Bakura shook his head. “We won’t fall for that trap again…besides…” The Neko tapped a small radio. “When I went to go look around that one time I planted a nice little device that’s letting me know what’s going on.”

Ryou’s ears perked up. “Like what?”

“Like…everything. I don’t know. Stop asking questions.” Bakura folded the plans. “This time, the target is the real Kaiba’s office. We were fooled last time.”

The kitten nodded, hopping over to sit on the bed with his brother. “There were toys there.”

“We don’t have time for that.”

“I know…” the boy whispered. “But…wouldn’t it be really nice to have nice things?”

The older Neko gave him a look. “What do you think I’m trying to do here? I’m trying to get us nice things!”

“…toys?”

“If you want them, I guess I can go get some. But for now, we want files!”

“Files!” the kitten echoed, hugging his brother. “And…toys?”

Bakura sighed. “Whatever.”

“Mew!” he squeaked, nuzzling him.

Noa lifted his chin, ears back as he purred under the attention. Mokuba was brushing him again.

“Oh no…you’ve got little twigs in your hair…”

“I was outside…you said I could go outside remember?” he murmured.

“I know Pretty…but these are hard to get out –there!” Mokuba smoothed the kittens mint colored hair and kissed his forehead. “There we go. You look very nice now.”

Noa blushed, trying to climb in the boy’s lap.

“Whoa! Hold on!” Mokuba laughed and stopped Noa. “You’re getting too big for that!” he scratched the kitten’s ear instead.

The boy hugged him tightly, beginning to purr loudly. There was a knock at the door and Seto came in.

“Mokuba, I just came back for a little while, but if you need me I’ll be in my office.”

“Alright! Say ‘hello’ Noa.”

The Neko smiled and Seto came over, running his hands thorough the boy’s hair. “He’s growing pretty well now Mokuba.”

“I know! Is it okay if I take him to school? It’s bring your Neko or Inu to school day tomorrow!”

Noa was quickly abandoning Mokuba to be with Seto, the Kitten trying to climb him. Seto picked him up and rubbed his back, the kitten going wild with purrs.

“I’m not sure…if you think he’s ready.” He craned his neck to look Noa in the eyes. “Would you like to go to school?”

“Nya!”

Seto put him back on the bed with Mokuba and ruffled his brother’s hair. “Well then, I suppose it’s okay…just watch out for him. Keep him with you all day.”

Noa looked at the Kaiba’s then whispered in Mokuba’s ear. The boy looked at Seto.

“You’ve got specs for a new gaming system?”

Kaiba blinked. “What? Who told you that?”

Mokuba pointed at Noa, who’s ears immediately went flat. Seto looked hard at him.

So he can read minds…but even if he can, he’s Mokuba’s.

“I like Mas –Mokuba.” Noa said suddenly.

“I know you do Noa. You’ve got remember though, it’s not good to read people’s mind’s without their permission.”

“…but I dunno how to make it stop.”

Mokuba gaped at his Neko. “Are you for serous! You’re saying you could read my mind the whole time?!”

The boy flinched and ducked when he noticed Mokuba’s tone was getting louder. “I –It’s only been stronger more lately…I’m sorry Master…”

Mokuba hugged him. “I’m not mad at you…” The raven haired boy looked at his brother. “Maybe he can go to the training facility?”

“I’m not too sure about that one…” Seto glanced at Noa. “He’s not ready for that…besides you wouldn’t be able to be there with him and that’s a liability since Noa isn’t socially trained yet. I can’t have him lose it in the facility.”

“…then why’d you even let Marik and Malik attend?”

The CEO rubbed his face. Even after all these years he was still paying for damages and the therapy bills for the trainers who’d been scarred, physically and emotionally by the two Egyptian Goldens.

“We’ll see…” Seto left the room, listening to his brother comfort Noa who had begun to cry.

In the room, Mokuba tried to sooth Noa’s nerves. “It’s alright, I’m sure he didn’t mean it!”

“He said it in his head! He said if there were problems I’d be –be yu-than-ized! And when I saw in his mind it was like they were making me gone!”

Mokuba rubbed the tears off Noa’s cheeks. “If you knew what trouble Marik and Malik were sometimes you’d know why he thought that. Do you want to maybe go to the center instead of school tomorrow? I can get someone to drive us to the training place and you can see if you want to go!”

Noa just cried harder. “I don’t wanna go! They’re going to take me away!”

“No they won’t! Noa!”

He’s being so paranoid…I’d never let anyone hurt him, especially not people who work for my brother.

Mokuba’s tactics weren’t exactly working so he just pulled the Kitten into a hug and held him there, hoping he’d either fall asleep or stop crying.

“Die you Bastard!” Ryou said, holding up a wickedly curved knife.

Bakura just blinked, beginning to laugh.

Ryou’s ears fell. “What? Didn’t I do it right?”

The older Alabaster got up from the couch, clapping slowly. “You did it right, but you’re just…so…”

“What? Awful? Terrible!” Ryou turned, snapping his tail indignantly. “Stop making fun of me Big Brother, I’m trying!”

Suddenly, Ryou was tackled from behind and as he regained his balance, he felt Bakura wrap his arms around him.

“No, you’re just too cute. Even if you were snarling and serious…you’re just to cute!” Bakura licked his brother’s cheek and the Kitten beamed, beginning to purr.

Bakura took the knife from Ryou and stepped back beginning to do and intricate and deadly blade dance. Ryou turned to watch, still able to be awed even though he’d seen his brother do it many times.

With a final flip of the knife, Bakura tackled Ryou to the floor and snarled, “Now die you Bastard!”

Initially surprised, Ryou fell into giggles, ruining Bakura’s deadly visage.

“Oh, now what?”

“I don’t believe you! You’re my brother! Hee hee!”

Bakura rolled his eyes. “Yeah well…I’m still deadlier than you! You’re too friendly.”

“Am not!” Ryou sat up, not bothering to move Bakura off him. “Last week or when ever we broke into that house I scared away that lady!”

“…yeah, after I showed up and told you to stop letting her pet you!”

“I was trying! It’s not my fault I kept hissing and stuff and she just kept petting my ears…” Ryou’s eyes saddened. “Did you have to kill her?”

Bakura grabbed Ryou’s chin, his dark brown eyes suddenly glowing a sinister red. “Of course.”

“…you could have just…stabbed her you didn’t have to…” Ryou’s voice kept getting smaller and smaller. “Make her…go…there…”

The Alabaster spoke into his brother’s ear. “Of course I did. She touched you, she saw your face.” He bit Ryou’s neck gently then, giving a growl. “No one touches you but me!”

Ryou squeaked and blushed, pushing the older Neko away. “Hurts…” he whispered.

“Doesn’t hurt…” Bakura said, looking his brother in the eyes. He pressed their foreheads together. “We’ll break in on Kaiba soon enough…you’ve got to work on your Concentration.”

“…Makes my head hurt…”

Ryou’s face was a healthy crimson as his brother attacked his mouth with his own and pinned him to the floor in a hungry kiss. The Kitten never knew quite what to do when his brother was acting this way, but it made him feel loved so he just went along with it.

Suddenly, it was over and Bakura was up and off of him, pacing the other side of the room.

Bakura looked over to Ryou on the floor and shook his head. Damn it…

Ryou sat up and was about to pounce on his brother’s tail when Bakura promptly walked out, muttering for him to stay put.

Ryou sat there a soft “aw” leaking out of his mouth before he went over to the bed and took a nap.

When Ryou woke up, it was nearly sundown and his brother wasn’t back. He briefly remembered what Bakura had said about working on his “Concentration” and stretched, sticking a foot out behind him and yawning. He stretched his hands out in front of him and wiggled his tail in the air then flopped over on his side, satisfied.

“Mmmm…” he purred, the end of his tail flicking up and down.

Oh yeah…gotta go do Concentration…

He got up and left the living area to go else where in the abandoned apartment building. He was lucky that he found all sorts of things here, like glass and all sorts of furniture. He stopped in one apartment and opened the cabinets. Sometimes, there was still food.

He didn’t find anything and continued on upstairs till he found one of the larger apartments with the big mirrors. He liked the upper level apartments. They were nice and clean and he wondered why he and Bakura didn’t live in one of these but the other Neko always said something about “making you spoiled” so they didn’t.

Ryou wandered into the bed room and stood in front of a desk with a mirror on it. He’d learned long ago that the stuff that was in bottles there wasn’t food and didn’t feel good if it got into your eyes…it also smelled bad.

Taking a deep breath, he stared at the mirror and focused, satisfied when a few tiny cracks came into the surface.

He tapped his chin and focused some more, making the cracks larger and controlling them as they crept all over the reflective surface.

He’d also learned sometime ago, that it was just him in the mirror, not another Neko. He’d broken too many mirrors that way so eventually Bakura had a sit down with him and explained it. With plenty of swats to the tail for emphasis.

Ryou giggled and the mirror shattered.

“Aww…” He bit his pinky claw and stared at the mess, his eyebrows knitting together. Nothing happened at first, but he growled a bit and the mirror began to fit itself back together into a while other shape. Where it had been massive and square before, it was now oval, the brass edges now curly and loopy like his own tail when he was excited.

Ryou clapped for himself and went to go sit at the seat, hand lingering over different bottles until he chose one. He held it in his hand and stared at it.

All the colored waters in the bottles never smelled like the good things he liked. He remembered the time Bakura brought him home “Cookies”. They’d smelled so good and tasted even better.

He let out a sigh and sprayed the water.

“Mmm!” he purred, sniffing the air. It smelled like cookies, cold, stale cookies, but cookie none the less.

Wish I had real ones…maybe if I concentrated…on…some other food…

Suddenly, the Kitten’s head throbbed and he rubbed his forehead. It was quitting time.

****

Yugi bit the end of his milkshake straw, glowering at the car floor boards. Sure he was happy they went to get fast food, but he was still upset.

Marik thought he was spoiled. What else did Marik really think about him?

“You think I’m just a stupid Kitten.”

“Eh?” Marik turned a corner and leaned back, his tail tapping Yugi’s leg. “What’s up your shorts? I never said that.”

“It’s like Yami but worse because you try to make me think you like me as a friend…”

“I do like you Chibi. Stop fooling. Is it because I said you were spoiled? I tell that to Malik everyday and he is.” The Neko stopped at a red light and relaxed. “Hell, even I get more breaks than I should…but sometimes that’s good. It keeps you and Malik real sweet. Makes people love you.”

“Hmph.” Yugi drank his milkshake angrily and the cigarette light flew out of the socket and out of the back window, creating a perfect round hole.

“I told you to keep a lid on that Chibi.”

“I want to go home!” the boy said, shoving his cup in the holder and crossing his arms.

“Not just yet…” Marik drove a little faster then and Yugi just pouted.

“I hope your tail falls off.”

“You’re such a spiteful little Kitten, my goodness.”

The Kitten stuck his tongue out and Marik laughed.

****

Ryou felt someone pushing his shoulder and he just curled up tighter. He wasn’t in the mood to get up.

“Mao…” the annoyed voice said.

Ryou sat up then, turning to looked at his brother, his expression not too happy. His head hurt.

“What?!” he snapped and was promptly smacked in the mouth.

“Ow!” he cried, falling back under the covers.

“Don’t give me lip Ryou! It’s time to eat anyway.” Bakura moved away from the bed and Ryou got up to follow. They sat at the table and dug into some surprisingly warms restaurant toss outs.

“These are good!”

“Yeah.”

“Thank you.”

“Whatever…”

Ryou smiled and drank his water. “I did a new trick today!”

“Yeah? You catch your tail in five tries?”

The Kitten giggled. “No, but I will. I made that stinky water smell like cookies.”

Bakura’s eyebrow quirked. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah…I just thought about it real hard…and I made the mirror different too.”

“Hm.” Bakura finished his portion of food, still making sure Ryou’s got most of the take. “That’s good. Does your head still hurt?”

“Not now that I’ve eaten.”

“That’s good. We’ll rest tomorrow then set out once the sun goes down.”

“Okay!”
