Final Chapter

Nobody Lives Happliy Ever After
By Evil MJ

Disclaimer: I don't own Yugi-oh. I own a couple of fictional characters in the story...some of them I didn't even kill off..he he

Okay, so here we are at the end. DragonDreamer YamiDragon thinks I am going to get Lynched for this. I LOVE a good Lynching don't you. Just keep in mind one thing: I have already written the chapter to my next story which picks up where this leaves off. Well a month or two later anyway. I wouldn't keep you guys hanging like that, I just didn't want to continue this story forever.

Lady Elfskye- Thanks for sticking with the story despite my occsasional disappareances (spending time in my vacation home in the shadowrealm)

Kat - Glad I have lived up to your expectations. I didn't think I was going to be very popular making some of the characters Hetro, but for the most part reviews have been favorable. What can I say I wrote it the way I felt it was, that's the fun of fiction.:)

Elaya- thanks for reivewing.....I love reivew, they're like little presents in my day. Oh gag...what am I saying, next I will be watching chick flicks and crying at commercials ...NEVER, NEVER. But still thanks.

Kris - I'm glad you took the time to reivew. Honestly I am the most paranoid person on the plant and I assume that when people read the story and say nothing, they hate it. I called Dragondreamer last night all excited that someone alluded to my story like a possible train wreck...AWESOME..he he. I hope the ending doesn't disappoint. By hey it's not like it's really over, I have been bullied by a friend to make at least two more in this arc.

ENJOY

FINAL CHAPTER

Joey sipped his coffee and leaned back in his chair. Outside the symphony of crickets played a peaceful serenade, lulling him to drowsy states of relaxation. He probably would have fallen asleep if it had not been for the coffee he had been nursing for some time now.

He laid his head against the deck chair and closed his eyes. The last few weeks had been anything but normal, and certainly some of the most interesting of his life. He allowed his mind to replay the events; they seemed less traumatic now that he had been through them already.

The night of Yugi’s return was miraculous to say the least. Yugi returned, his emotional state fractured, he had no concept of time and had a very hard time understanding who or where he was, and more importantly how his friends could be so much older than him.

Tristan, Joey sighed deeply and ran his hand over his face in a familiar gesture of frustration. Tristan some how managed to liveen ten though the cut on his arm was barely a scratch, the energy needed to open the portal was enough to almost drain him of his life force. For three weeks he had existed in a coma, doctors had given up any hope that he would ever regain consciousness, but somehow against all odds Tristan had returned. And the change had been startling; he wasn’t the same Tristan as before. The Tristan who awoke was sombre, cold; there was no emotion in his eyes. It was just as Bakura has prophesized, those who say they have nothing left, end up losing the most. He had tried to find away to reach out and find the man that Tristan used to be, but he wasn’t there, he was always met with stony silence and cold indifference. Then one evening, not much different than this one, Tristan disappeared. As hard as Joey had tried, he could not locate him; the man disappeared without a trace.

As far as Yugi went, Joey hadn’t really been given much of a chance to see him before Seto secreted him away in his own private fortress. He was not allowing anyone to see Yugi and there was precious little that Joey could do to change the circumstances. There was no law being broken and he couldn’t just force his way into the Kaiba mansion. He could only imagine the complex emotions going through Yugi’s mind right now. His only family, his grandfather was long since dead and all his friends were at least twenty years older than him. The home he had dreamed of returning to for so long was a strange and fearful place, and he was now forced to share a soul with a man who had spent the last twenty years obsessing over him.

Isis had not contacted him for some time. Her Millennium necklace was now restored and she could once again open herself to the visions that had been such an important part of her life. He could sense her pulling further and further away, taken by a supernatural force with a power that he could not compete against, and although she promised her feelings for him had not changed, he no longer felt the same emotion from her that he once had. He had been replaced and damn it if it didn’t piss him off. A time would come, and of this he had no doubt, when she would think on him again, some night when her husband was busy with his new young charge. He could wait; he had waited a long time for her to come into his life in the first place.

Mai had gone right to their daughter’s side and refused to leave. He wanted to sit down and have a long heart to heart with her but she would have none of it. She felt that there was nothing they could say that could put things into perspective more clearly and poignantly than the intensive exchange of emotions they had experienced during the ceremony. She said she knew how he felt about her but it was too late, and dredging up the past would only hurt too many people.

Mokuba was still in pretty rough shape, his return to health would be a long one but Kyla was determined to remain with him until the end. Joey sighed was was going to have to get used to a Kaiba in the family as she had made it quite clear that she was going to marry him and that was the end of it. He had to admit that seeing all that Mokuba went through for his daughter he could not help but feel a grudging respect for the young man, he had more than proven himself worthy of his daughter and when the time came he knew he would be able to give his little girl away knowing that she in gin good hands.

As for Bakura and Ryou, they had once again joined as one, sharing the one soul. Ryou said that he had never felt more complete in his life, despite the less than kind way that Bakura liked to treat him. It was the way things were supposed to be and he was foolish to think that he could live any other way, his past was a lie and for the first time he was discovering the truth about himself and was learning to live with it. The last he heard they were headed on a much needed vacation somewhere in Egypt. He hoped that they would be able to work things out better than the rest of them were.

And then there was Tea. Bakura explained that during the duel where she had nearly lost her life, something from the shadow realm stayed with her, twisting her thoughts and changing her into a monster. Going back to the Shadow Realm had finally freed her of the demon that possessed her and she was left with the memories of what she had done. Unable to deal with her actions, and facing a life in prison, she turned to Joey for help. He was able to get her admitted to the same hospital that took care of Serenity. He hoped that there she would be able to find a way to deal with her tortured conscious.

He sighed again and looked up to the stars in the clear night sky and wondered what the future would hold for him. In the distance he could faintly hear the ring of his cell phone.

(Ah Hell) He thought. (It can wait till tomorrow)
